Well, there really was a St. Patrick. He’s the patron saint of Ireland, who according to legend, drove the snakes out of the country. Born in the late fourth century, he is said to have converted the Irish people to Christianity, and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity. Over the centuries however, “St. Paddy’s Day,â€? as it’s affectionately called, has been transformed into a mostly secular holiday to celebrate all things Irish. Here in the United States, more than 100 cities hold annual St. Patrick’s Day parades, including New York City, Boston, and Chicago. In Chicago, they even turn the river green for a day! This makes sense when you think about the fact that over 30 million U.S. residents claim to have Irish heritage. Irish is the nation’s second most frequently reported ancestry behind German. Pour in the chicken stock until it almost covers the meat and vegetables. Season with salt and pepper and add herbs in the cheesecloth. Cover and cook on low heat for 2 hours, being careful not to let it get to a hard boil. Cut potatoes into quarters and place potatoes on top of the stew, cover and cook for 30 minutes until the meat falls off the bones, and the potatoes are fork tender. Pair this with a loaf of Irish soda bread and some Guinness for a delicious St. Patrick’s Day meal.

Most of the rodeo members attended local jackpots and rodeos while over break to keep practicing in the offseason. “It’s kind of a unique situation for the rodeo student-

athletes,” coach Seth Glause said. “They can compete professionally as well as collegiately and still get paid when they win money.” Going into the upcoming season, Glause mentioned that he has several standouts for events, both on the men’s

team and the women’s team. “Bernard Girard and Ian McGivney have both been leaders in their events for the men’s team,” Glause said. “Caydee Johnson, Sydney Graff, Sydney Adamson and Peyton Feyder, they all are practicing really

well, and I expect big things from them come the rodeos.” With the college national finals rodeo coming up in June, Glause has a few goals for the rodeo team. “I want the team to be able to compete at a high level,” Glause said. “I also want them to grow personally as well as mentally. My personal goal is to be able to take a team to the College National Finals Rodeo.” A LCCC team to compete in the col lege national finals rodeo would be the first in 20 years. Team members should be in the top three in

points individually and a team should be in the top two in points combined over the ten rodeos. Glause has come close before. “Last year the men’s team was fifth and the women’s team was tenth.” Glause said. The rodeo team begins their season in Gillette on March 20. They then travel to Eastern Wyoming College on March 27.

St. Joseph’s Food Pantry for Eligible Seniors Friday, March 20, St. Joseph’s food pantry, 206 Van Lennon, will distribute Seniors’ monthly food boxes to eligible seniors from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
