Welcome

The sun is out and summer is in full swing. In this issue we have a few convertables that should catch your eyes. As you may have noticed that the magazines name has changed to BONUS and this is because we were getting alot of messags saying that you having trouble remembering the name or couldn’t pronounce the name, so I have solved this problem. Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder $ 850,000 This particular Ferrari Daytona started out life as a normal, European Market, European Delivery, European Specification Coupe with the still at that time and now highly sought-after, standard Perspex Covered head lights. It was originally ordered and delivered to the official Italian Ferrari agent, Pederioli and was assembled under Scaglietti Job Sequence No. 231 using body No. 232. This Daytona was originally finished in red with a black interior, little else is known about the car�s early life but on April 16th, 1978 the Ferrari was already in the States and offered for sale by a San Francisco, California owner through the Los Angeles Times classified add section. He described the car as; Red with black interior, air conditioning, needs work, 31,000 miles. It is important to note that this Ferrari was already a Spyder conversion at this point but who and when the conversion was completed is not know definitively even today. At the time it was being offered for sale, the seller claimed the car was an original Spyder, something that only later was confirmed not to be true.

(FML V.11N.19) A year later well know car collector and hoarder extraordinaire, Jake Weaver of Jackson, Mississippi offered the car for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter and described it as follows: Daytona Spyder Conversion, black lacquer with tan interior. (FML V.12 N.8) a few weeks later he listed the car again in the Ferrari Market letter this time noting the mileage was now 34,000 miles (FML V.12 N.13) In the Fall of 1988, Gerald Roush made the following notes after a phone call about the car with FAF�s Steve Ahlgrim: Per phone call from Steve Ahlgrim, FAF Motorcars, Tucker, GA 10 November, 1988 car is in Tucker, Georgia. Being offered as an original Spyder. Per numorous phone calls throughout late 1988 and early 1989 car was being heavily promoted by brokers/wheeler-dealers as an original Spyder second production car. The colors remained at this point black with a tan interior. Shortly thereafter the car was sold to a Japanese dealer and imported for a private museum collection.

This Ferrari was again offered for sale in the LA Times on August 7th, 1983 by Sam Black in Marina Del Ray, California. He described the car as still being red/black but noted it was a Spyder Conversion and fitted with wire wheels. Three years later, European Auto listed the car for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter and described it as follows: Spyder Conversion. Needs some finish work; needs paint and

This Daytona has remained there until earlier this month when it was purchased from a subsequent owner after having been recently disassembled and carefully color changed to Fly yellow with a new Tan interior with black seat inserts in order to give the same appearance as the Prototype Daytona Spyder original completed by Ferrari in yellow and the only example built with perspex covered head-lights.

The Bugatti has covered only 4,500 km from new and will be supplied with a fresh service along with the spare key and speed key in a presentation box, trickle charger and original brochure.

DINO 246 GTS Price On Request The Dino commemorated Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino, who died tragically young. A gifted engineer at the time of his death, Dino was working on a new V6 engine which would power Mike Hawthorn to the 1958 World Championship. It became traditional to call any Ferrari powered by a V6 a ‘Dino’ and they would distinguish themselves in F1, F2 and sports car racing. In 1967 the first road car was produced using a 2 litre V6 206 Dino. However, this did not sell well as it was underpowered compared to the V12 cars. In 1969 the 2.4 litre engine with 195 BHP and improved torque was used, which gave the 246 Dino a top speed close to 150 MPH, with a chassis that came from Ferrari’s race breeding. It was one of the quickest cars available to get from A to B on winding roads, and in 1972 the 246 GT was refined and the GTS (Spyder) was introduced. This GTS version was sold new on Oct 09 1973 at Hollywood Sports Cars, Hollywood California, and was then sold to Switzerland in 1989.
