Based on 851377:Part6:Clause6 "Determination of Permeability in a Triaxial Cell" and ISO 6179: "Transmission rate of volatile liquids"

CC HydrorM GCCM (Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mat) products have been independently tested by GEOLabs Ltd, UK, to assess the material's permeability with regards to water and diesel. Testing was carried out on Smm CC HydrorM (CCHS). The test method used is based on 8S1377:Part6:Clause6 Determination of Permeability rn a Triaxial Cell. Additionally, the permeability of CC HydrorM to volatile hydrocarbon vapours was also independently tested by BICS Laboratories Ltd according to ISO 6179:Transmission rate of volatile liquids.

BS'l 377: Part6: Clause6 Determination of Permeability in a Triaxial Cel I The test method involves fitting a cured disc of CCH5 into a tri-axial cell and sealed in place with silicone sealant. The cell is filled with the fluid of concern (water or diesel), with the flow set perpendicular to the CC HydrorM membrane. The disk is allowed to saturate for 1-2 days before the fluid is pressurised. During the pressurised stage of the test the hydraulic gradient of the fluid is monitored and from this the coefficient of permeability is calculated. For each fluid, samples were tested to determine the permeability of un-jointed CC HydrorM and thermally welded joints over a period of up to 2 days.

ISO 6179: Transmission rate of volatile liquids The test method involves fitting a swatch of PVC membrane from CC HydrorM over an inverted cup, partially filled with a variety of common industrial hydrocarbon contaminants, and allowed to equilibrate with the volatile vapour over the course of several days. The swatch of material is weighed before and after exposure to the chemical and the vapour transmission rate is determined gravimetrically.

ln addition, both channels used three (3) different kinds of joint connections as described below: 1. One connection section used adhesive to connect the upper layer of CC to the lower layer

2. One used screws, and 3. One utilized only gravity

This variety of lap joints was constructed in order to assess capability of different overlapping techniques. An anchor trench was used to restrain the first two layers in the first channel with the lap joints shingled transverse or perpendicular to the direction of flow. A consideration in developing the test protocol was deciding how to eliminate or minimize edge effects from the narrow flume width. Lining the walls of the channel with CC would have resulted in a stiffer cross section than would be encountered in a normal field installation. lt was decided to install a flat piece of CC with a thin membrane attached to each side to prevent water flow around the edges of the 610mm width piece. This light weight membrane was attached to the underside of the CC and run up the sides of the channel. This approach was selected to better simulate the weight of CC in a project covering a large area in order to focus the teSt on whether CC could withstand the drag forces created by great amounts of rushing water over the top of the product.


The product was hydrated according to recommended procedures, and sandbags were placed on top of the joint overlaps to hold the CC layers together during setting. The sandbags were removed once the product was set and before testing commenced. The CC was allowed to cure to full strength (-10 days) prior to performing the flow test.

ffi The test consisted of running water at various flow rates over the material. Throughout the testing process, measurements of waier height were made down the length of the channel. No failure of any seam, and no movement was detected for any of the CC panels during the course of the test. ln addition, no subgrade erosion was observed as a result of the test. Both the transverse lap joints shingled in the direction of flow and the longitudinal lap joints parallel to the direction of flow were sufficiently robust to resist the flows encountered during the test.

All joint connection approaches (adhesive, screws, and gravity) resisted the flow velocities, with similar results for each approach being observed. The installed 'repair' patches also resisted the test flow conditions.

From the TRI report, "Alljoint types and patches appeared to provide a dependable seal throughout the test." Neither the longitudinal nor the transverse overlaps showed any distress during even the highest flow conditions.

Concrete Canvas@ GCCM- (CC) meets the fire regulations and demands for many interior and exterior public localities. CC is flre-safe, does not contribute to the surface spread of flames, has a low level of smoke development and minimal hazardous gas emissions,

Previously. depending on the type of locality, fire safety requirements varied from country to country. The Euroclass system is replacing these earlier national classification systems, which formed obstacles to trade. This new classification system for the reaction to fire properties of building construction products has been introduced in Europe by COMMISSION DECISION (20001147lEC) of 8 February 2000 implementing Council Directive B9/106/EEC (Ref. OJ L 50,23.2.2000). It consists of two sub systems, one for construction products excluding floorings, eg. wall and ceiling surface linings and another similar system for floorings. A class marked with capital letter from A to F indicates product behaviour in different stages of fire development of which classes A1 and A2 are non combustible products (see table below). Additional information about smoke and flaming droplets release is marked in subscript e.g. 42 s1d0. The Euroclass system additionally defines the test methods according to which construction products shall be categorised.

Concrete Canvas@ GCCM. (CC) products have been independently tested by BICS Laboratories Ltd, UK to assess the performance of CCSrM, CCBrrv and CC13rM when immersed for 56 days in a range of chemicals at 50'C. The test method used is based on BS EN 14414:2004, "Geosynthetics. Screening test method for determining chemical resistance for landfilI applications".

The test method involves full immersion of sample bars (40x160mm) in the test chemical over a period of 56 days at an elevated temperature of 50'C to accelerate any signs of deterioration. Following the 56 day immersion period, the

samples are subjected to a 3-point bend test and the flexural strength results compared to a set of control specimens. Five samples of all 3 CC formats (CCSrM, CCBrr/, CC13IM) were tested against the following chemicals: . Acid (pH 1.0) . Alkaline (pH 13.0)

. Hydrocarbon (35% diesel, 35% paraffin & 30% lubricating oil)

CC products showed minimal or no loss of flexural strength following chemical immersion. The results listed here should be used for indicative purposes only.
