A MESSAGE FROM THE LCVP iGCDP-PROJECTS Hello there Exchange Participant, Thank you for taking an interest with Project UNPLUG 2.0 of AIESEC Davao. Project UNPLUG began last July 14, 2013 and was able to have 4 cycles and gather exchange participants from the different regions of the world. The project was made possible with the help of our enthusiastic EPs and project partners and directors. Once again, we present to you this Energy conservation and awareness project with the aim to carry out more impact into the society. As there is energy crisis that is felt in every corner of the world, project UNPLUG 2.0 envisions to coordinate with the students and citizens of Davao city to help resolve the problem. In reality, Davao City itself is facing this energy crisis and what better way to address this issue it to continue to raise awareness to the communities with proper symposiums and channels that will enable them to understand the current realities the city is facing. As the future leaders of the next generation, it is just right for us to begin and impose change and awareness in our societies. If we don’t face the problem now, when will we face it? This project booklet will give you more ideas on how the project will run. We hope that this will help you understand more of the project and decide on taking part of this meaningful project. We hope to see you become part of project UNPLUG. Thank you very much and we hope to see you in Davao City, Philippines real soon!

WHAT IS UNPLUG has a three-fold mission which unites the communities, Exchange Participants, and High School students in a collective effort to solve and alleviate the issues of energy crisis in Mindanao. It envisions to identify and answer the underlying problems of electricity shortage if not now, in the future and the increasing electricity bill of household and commercial establishments. Exchange Participants are immersed to communities and are expected to come up with a comprehensive report/research about the routinely manner of how household uses their electricity and recognize the possible techniques to at least help in energy conservation. Thus organizing a energy awareness forum.
BACKGROUND
MISSION
Mindanao has been experiencing continuous rotational brownout in the past few years. This is because of the deficiency in the supply of energy not only in the cities but in the neighboring provinces as well. Today, Davao City itself is facing this rotational brownout as deficiency in power supply rises. Power Crisis is a world phenomenon. This happens all throughout the planet. In 2009, the council of Davao City has attempted to draft a code that will eventually cut down spending on fuel and electricity and save the environment without compromising productivity.
PROJECT UNPLUG aims to improve a community, help the government and educate high school students, about the Energy Conservation in Davao City. The intention is to change the lifestyle of the citizens with their consumption of electricity. We want to alleviate the situation by conducting surveys and presenting the data to Department of Energy. And lastly, we intend to inform students and the citizens of Davao about the problem through lectures and forums.
JOB DESCRIPTION The exchange participants will be divided into groups to undergo community immersion and peer education. The Exchange participants will create their own energy survey for the community that they will have their immersion with. They will also have the chance to have a consultation session with local experts from the Department of Energy.
Community Immersion: Exchange participants will have to identify the underlying problems present in the community in line with Energy and these volunteers should be able to present simple to complex ideas on how these households can improve their ways of life through the decrease of energy consumption and help solve the current and future problems relating to Energy crisis.
Peer Education: Exchange participants will relay the results of their research and survey outputs through a presentation to schools located in the same community they have conducted the research. They will reiterate on the techniques in which these High School Students in their own ways could help in solving the present and/or future and more looming energy crisis. For a greater impact, the exchange participants will conduct an eco-energy fair that will invite people from the different sectors of the society to help in discussion of the current realities that is being faced by the city.
