MAZARA DEL VALLO - SICILIA 10MQ - SPACE FOR HOSPITALITY Mod-BLOCK, expresses the desire to build in a modular way using blocks. The element that has greatly characterized the project was the possibility to building in series. The idea to design a space of 10 square meters starts from the choice to refer the shape in a simple and regular parallelepiped. It’s decided to create two inclined pitches for lighting reasons, this choice is due to the desire to have indirect light, which therefore, even in the Sicilian climatic conditions, makes possible to use internal space even during the day, avoiding direct light. Choice of modularity, given by the composition of the individual blocks and by the “frames” that form the skeleton of the structure, allows a considerable constucction speed. This technology makes easy to disassembel and remount the construction in different places and also allows easy transport. The building is designed to accommodate up to 5 people and its flexibility allows it to be adapted to different functions.

CONCEPT & DESIGN

Technological detail representing the building block, as LEGO style. It is composed of exterior wood and internal insulating material. Putted between the frames of the structure creates the building.

10

11

DETAILS

Structure This technology involves the assembly of frames placed at a distance of 60cm from each other and connected to by longitudinal elements. This configuration create an accommodation where it will be possible to insert our blocks. Fixing is done by screws and metal plates.

Blocco pavimento, contenente l’isolante termico, la sua posa consiste nell’inserimento del blocco nella struttura principale.

Disassembly The project has particular attention to the dismantling of the building. In this view it is possible to see the building disassembled in its main elements. Built the various types of blocks will be possible to have an optimization in terms of construction times for successful assembly.

FILARI URBANI - ASTI COMPETITION BY STUDIO “ABACO - COLLABORATION DESIGN STUDIO” Re-thinking of a public square in Asti (Italy), which is a large open-air parking lot. The request is to increase the parking space, looking back at the space of the square, keeping the possibility of making events or demonstrations and its regular function of parking space and market place on specific weekly days. the idea is to bring the agricultural context of the territory into the city center. Filari are the typical vineyards that characterize the territory, from this comes the concept and the name’s project.

PAPAVERDAM - AMSTERDAM COMPETITION BY “ABACO - COLLABORATIVE STUDIO DESIGN

AN INNOVATIVE MODEL THAT MATCHES LIVING AND WORKING SPACES. Urban re-activation is one of the major theme in the development of our cities. It is a complex topic that requires an interdisciplinary approach to the everchanging trends and suppose a deep dialogue between architects, urban planners, local administrations and active citizens. Re-activation means not only defining new urban strategy but also rethinking the economic and social models that works with it. Today the challenge is to connect the new raising models of life and production - more hybrid, more nomadic, more informal and diffuse where the contribution of hyper connected and self-organized communities and citizens is increasing. In close connection with all the involved actors, as designers and urban planners we have a great responsibility as facilitators. We need to find a new virtuous balance between life and work. We should imagine processes, spaces and devices that could host the emerging trends and lead us towards an optimistic future.

Each frame-box can be equipped and adapted to different uses by adding various pre-fabricated modules, such as kitchenette, bathroom, storages, .. They are connected to electrical, water, ventilation and wi-fi building networks. The on-site workshops and the fablab allow members to design their personal frame-box layout. Apartment rooms can be totally separated or communicating by an empty passage in the frame-box.

less productivity AIM OF PROJECT The project aims to break the traditional boundaries between workplace and life place, private and public, interior and exterior. Work, lifestyle and community, once disconnected facets, are completely overlapped andintersected in a truly open and flexible infrastructure. Firstly, the projectis connected to the area by creating three strong and diversified public access. The built volume is then made empty on its core which is eventually populated with a flexible modular voxel structure. All the project is conceived as an attractive and highly communicative screen, with a vibrant and contemporary lifestyle going on in its microhybrid spaces.

PERSPECTIVE SECTION 30

more productivity

less productivity SHARED SPACES, FACILITIES AND SERVICES The housing parts of the building are compressed in the boundary and narrow arms deserved by shared balconies looking inward. The core of the project is a modular infrastructure thought to host the working areas with units that are strongly customizable to match any kind of user needs. In between these two universes there is a multitude set of hybrid and shared spaces. The main access is conceived as a public space with some modules hosting facilities. There is no barrier between the exterior of the building and the interior open space. At the ground floor, there are some main services of the building like the area existing activities, small manufacturing spots with digital fabrication tools, common facilities and small shops. A cafeteria, facing the canal, is directly linked with the open public space of the court.

ERTONG - BEIJING, CHINA The aim of the course was to redevelop an industrial area in Beijing, Ertong. It is decided during masterplan design step to consider the existences and try to find new functions suitable to the place with the insertion of residential areas. In this project, the large industrial buildings are maintained and designed as excellent places for arenas and areas dedicated to gaming, a sector in considerable growth in our times, especially in China, where are organized virtual olympics games. Specifically in my project it was decided to develop the residential and accommodation area.

DE SONNAZ BARRAK, TORINO

Barrack “Ettore De Sonnaz” object of interest is located in the city center of Turin. Defines a vast block between the streets Ottavio Revel, Vitaliano Donati, Ettore De Sonnaz, Amedeo Avogadro. Thanks to a national sales plan for army’s assets, grow in Italy an interest in the renovation of these buildings. This case study allowed us to do a great architectural relief and then a project on the building and site. Was planned the demolition of the rear part of the building, the one with less architectural merit with only one floor. This allows to make the area permeable. It is planned to include a new building that will host various cultural functions and create residences and hotel in the maintained part. Was decided to remove the classic roof to use the maximum building cubature (m3), creating additional living spaces.
