WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) Cylinders, cones, and tangent surfaces of space curves. A Cylinder surface is formed by parallel lines. And cones is consisted by a vertex and a base, and many lines on the base connecting to the vertex. They are all ruled surfaces, and such a developable ruled surface has same tangent plane at all points of the same ruling.
Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) Developed surfaces are characterized by the property that they can be mapped isometrically into the plane, and with the critical consideration of this can help to develop model and building making in teh real world. In reading page 543 figure 15.16 shows, with convert surfaces to geometries to make developable surfaces.

3D PANEL TEST PROTOTYPE & TEMPLATE
Samples of panels, with tabs on the top and without tabs on the tops respectively, and with the consideration of exterior, the models with tabs on the top will be more beautiful, therefore, the further modeling will make as the base of panels with tabs on the top

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital fabrication is architecture and material Techniques documents architecturally innovative projects realized through digital design and constructive process, with the ground-breaking projects, it provides a brief ground to the rise the digital fabrication in architecture, and help the designers and architects to develop their imagination and insight.
Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) The folding is made to connect the pieces of panels, and folding expands the three-dimensional meaning of surface by producing deformation and inflection. Also folding is materially economical, visually appealing, and effective at multiple scales.
