The differences between abstraction and reduction (week 4 reading)
When I make my model and draw my analytical drawing from my pattern found from nature first use the method of abstraction, as model, by definition, is always an abstraction of reality. Building a model means reducing the infinite complexity of real world to a level where it can be described with manageable effort. I want my model to describe the properties of an object unambiguously instead of containing too much meaningless information. This need me to think and decide what information from my analytical drawing and pattern is necessary and interesting that can be used to make my model. And the reading written by Poling gives me some ideas about how to do the abstraction. The three stages state in his writing is the quiet efficient way to analyze the exciting objects. Following with his methods I find the relationships between the structures, transforming graphical characteristics to simply drawing made of lines and points. Reduction, in contrast to abstraction, is not about reducing the amount of information but rather about finding the optimal way to transport it. The two main procedures to carry the reduction are elimination of redundancies and optimization of descriptions of processes. For my own making model process I use these methods when I started to make my paper and clay models. At that time I found according to my recipe my model has too much redundancies that make me really difficult to do the model by paper. So I eliminate the repeat parts of my recipe this process is called normalization. According to myself the main differences between ‘abstraction’ and ‘reduction’ is that abstraction needs more analytical thinking you need to have clear idea about which law you are use what final results you would like to get you would get a completely different thing from our previous object. Refer to reduction it’s like a process of cleaning up your model and this process is irreversible once we reduce we will never get our initial work.

Panel idea from movement The key wards of recipe of movement are packing and potential movement of
circles.
So I draw circles in the sufaces of the rectangular pyramid as my first panel

Lighting tests for panel 1
The idea of panel 1 lighting effect is from the projection of the leaves . In the ground it can be seen the combination of shadow and brightness of circle shape.
Panel idea from symmetry
Front
As my recipe of symmetry have a over form of pentagon so I choose pentagonal pyramid as the for m of my second panel. in prder to link with my pattern I make some holes in the surfaces. as shown in the diagrams the are symmetry in given direction.

Lighting test for panel 2 Compared with panel 1, the basement shape of panel 2 is pentagon. So they have 5 surfaces in each model, the lighting effect is more interesting as the brightness interact with each other. From different views there are different outcomes.
Panel idea from balance My third panel idea is from balance the rectangles in the surface are from small to big(from top to botton). this is the idea of scale.

Lighting test for panel 3
My panel 3 idea is from the World Expo 2000 Ger many. The combination of different size gaps create differnent shapes of shadows from different views. the interaction between these gaps are more obviously than the previous two panels. When I change the directions of the coming light the outcomes change.
