ABOUT PORTFOLIO The portfolio is a collection of my design work during the past 6 years. Landscape architecture is the relationship between human and nature. The process of design is a procedure of rebirth and reorganization for the site. Landscape means life and each site is like a baby who has his or her own characteristics and various future opportunities. Landscape architect is the link between human and nature.

Biodiversity is the diversity of life on Earth. This includes the richness (number), evenness (equity of relative abundance), and composition (types) of species, alleles, functional groups, or ecosystems. Biodiversity is rapidly declining worldwide, and there is considerable evidence that ecosystem functioning (e.g., productivity, nutrient cycling) and ecosystem stability (i.e., temporal invariability of productivity) depend on biodiversity (Naeem et al. 2009). Thus, biodiversity declines may diminish human wellbeing by decreasing the services that ecosystems can provide for people

EXISTING TIMELINE Bison is one of the iconic animals in North American and there were a lot of individuals in Illinois since late 17th. However, with the process of industrialization and urbanization, bison was hunted in quantities due to their economic value, even sometimes just for fun. Therefore, the species finally locally disappeared in Illinois at about late 19th. With the development of public awareness, bison was reintroduced into IL in 2014 but fenced in a small area. 4
Bison can be beneficial to the prairie evolutionary and can help build a more complex and stable eco-system. In the future, to help with the restoration of local prairie eco-system, it is necessary to make bison as wildlife again. The challenge of the idea of rewilding are: How to conserving wild character and genome of bison? How to create suitable habitat for them? How people exert a positive impact on them? To crack these challenges several strategies are raised to correspond.

PRESSURES

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS First one is network strategy. As bison are now live in a small area and fenced like domestic animals, our appeal is to make them wild again on purpose of protecting their nature. The network strategy aimed to connect green patches in the whole region so to give bison a free, wide as well as flexible habitat. Bison would not be restricted in separate areas but can move on their own wishes.

7
We proposed our project based on a condition that the urban has highly developed and has a population of 2 million as well as the transportation, agriculture will in a larger scale. The project wants to focus on the issue of biodiversity change due to urbanization and take the bison as an example to provide a possibility for future relationship between human and nature. The design strategy introduces the concept of the ecological disciplines, like the patch, corridor and mosaic.

METABOLIC DIAGRAM BISON ANALYSING
We analysed the issues, pressures, strengths and opportunities of Will County. The site has great opportunities on the development of the bisons due to the existing Tallgrass Prairie National Park, the potential growth of the tourism industries and so on. Therefore, we further analysed the situation of bisons. And three of the aspects are selected to be focused on.

CHARACTERISTICS
Bison’s behavior like wallowing and their preference of buffalo grass would change and benefit the local soil and plant species components. Their wallowing can loosen the soil, and help spread the seeds, the inserts on their body can provide food for birds. In a word, they can rich the species and complicated the food chains.
TOPOGRAPHY More multiple ecological condition
BISON
Occupation
Global climate change, pollution, and urbanization are all threatening of the existed and potential bison habitats. So we are proposing to use several methods like adding corridors, raising ground buildings, and phytoremediation to form an ecological green loop and ecosystem networks.

MODELING STRATEGY & SECTION PERSPECTIVE
NOW
LANDSCAPE STRATEGIES MODELING STRATEGY
By building eco-system models in selected specific sites with different properties (hydrology, soil, topography…), different modes of ecological remediation process could be established. Then applying the models into places with similar properties to achieve a larger scale of ecosystem repair. After the remediation more healthy and suitable habitat could be formed for bison.

SITE PLAN 2
There are six different kinds of edges are used to make bison move freely in a controllable range: berming, high-density forest, highway, Haha, loose fencing and electric fencing. They behavior different levels of separation. Berming is only using the changing topography to slow down the moving speed. High-density forest is designed based on bisons’ habits since they don't like to move through the forest. And the highway, haha and fencing are used to separate bison with different things to avoid their conflicts with transportation, human, farmland, logistic, and industries and so on. SITE PLAN 3
In addition, human participation strategy is used to improve the positive influence of the citizens. Since the situation now is extremely different from 200 years ago, if the bison becoming wild again they must integrate into the urban. The strategy here intended to involve a more systematic monitoring to guide bison live in urban area. Besides public concern and the government attention also need to be evoked. Tourism would develop and become a beneficial to local economic. Positive interaction between human and bison, urban and nature can develop a new type of living circumstance and can be a guide for the further relationship of urbanization and eco-system. This kind of harmony provides more chance of sustainable development for our society.

This case study enables an important evolution in the provisioning and consumption of utility services. The right of way is developed to capitalize on a range of distributed technologies – those elements which are systems of technology composed of many small parts without centralized coordination or control. This approach allows for flexible demand and distribution, innovation in electronic devices, and evolving monitoring capabilities. The distributed technologies include the renewable energy regeneration and distribution, gray water circulation, waste redevelopment as well as self-sufficient food system, creating new options for the infrastructures’ installation and maintenance. This case study offers physical typologies that respond to changing land uses, increased energy efficiency, and system-wide resilience, in order to mitigate energy consumption during transmission and distribution of power.
NEW SYSTEM DESIGN
The basic concept for the future grid is called off grid system, from current checkerboard type to an independent and integrated system in the future. Three scales’ systems are under consideration: a building, a community, and a street. Each scale has its own utility system as an independent energy circulation system. In the meanwhile, different scales connect with one to another. The dynamic grid system preserves and complements the energy efficiency as well as resiliency resisting unpredictable weather condition. Taking Hamilton County as an example. This project divides the land use into different types and provides utility combination possibilities. This scenario could also be applied in any other cities in the U.S.

LOCATION: DANVILLE, IL, THE U.S.
The Danville Riverfront Revitalization Project focuses on the key role this area can draw people in to the space to feel and develope better understanding of nature by sound installations to amplify and exaggerate sesory experiences. Efforts to redevelope ecological balance, habit and biodiversity set the stage fr exploration and observation. The installations are placed within the site to capture nature phenomenon of sound. Seasonal changes and whether changes cause these sites to change from hour to hour and day to day as birds migrate in the spring and fall, which causes a change in sound. These occurrences are all around us, but often go unnoticed. Amplify and translating these elements of nature into more observable form help us read the environment, heightening and appreciation.
