The European Network ters Istanbul.

yes on|of Tarlabaşı is the artistic research that the European network ONORTHODOX conducted the last few months in Istanbul. Borrowing strategies from among others visual anthropology Eyes of Tarlabaşı tries to capture the focus from the inhabitants on its surrounding. Essential is the bottom up approach in which the inhabitants, or ‘Eyes OF’, become photographers of their own daily environment. The photo-interviews, freestyle interviews and observations are documented by video and film cameras, and by written analyses. Special is that the entire process is documented too. The other part is Eyes on Tarlabaşı. How do ‘surrounders’ see the area and why? These ‘Eyes ON’ can be passengers by in nearby streets but also academic researchers from Istanbul or abroad. Various methods have been applied to make best use of the knowledge.

It would be naïve to think or even try to capture the many characteristics of Tarlabaşı by yourself. To open 2010, ONORTHODOX therefore organised an interdisciplinary workshop to get some input. This project will be divided under eyes ON Tarlabaşı. In the workshop, which was partly hold in the Kadirga Art Production Centre 2010, about 10 people from various countries have attended; shared and produced for a week. Important was the two-folded approach. What is and can interdisciplinarity reach falls under the didactic approach. The content was about Tarlabaşı, which formed the common basis they worked on. Apart from being an interesting set up it felt as a necessity too to develop such a workshop to add to the vario perceptions and approaches that exist within the different fields.
What can young experts such as an architect, a human-geographer and anim cialist, an economist, an artist, a sociologist and a social anthropologist an together? The week that started with a tour through Istanbul and various ke
