Kenyans defy Kambi’s Mid-East jobs warning A group of Kenyans have vowed to ignore a Government warning and continue trooping to the Middle East in search for jobs. Harrowing tales of oppression and torture from those returning from similar escapades do not seem to break the spirit of some of the employment seekers. Valarie Kibosu, 26, and single mother of two is due to travel to Qatar next month to start working as a domestic worker. She admits she knew about the opportunity from a briefcase agent but that won’t deter “my quest for a brighter future.”

Rival MPs seek Hague visas to escort Uhuru for ICC suit
In a rare show of solidarity, several dignitaries trooped to The Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi seeking visas to accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to the International Criminal Court next week. The applicants included MPs from Cord and Jubilee parties as well as Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu. All visitors to the Embassy said they will stand with President Kenyatta in the Status Conference to be held on October 8 as friends and representatives of their constituents. Cord-allied MP Victor Munyaka
of Machakos Town said Kenyatta is the President of all Kenyans, and they had decided to escort him irrespective of political affiliation. Ngilu said this is the moment when the President needed genuine friends. She said Kenyatta will go to The Hague to show he respects the rule of law. Like other politicians who addresses news reporters after the application, Kega exuded confidence that Kenyatta will be exonerated from the crimes he is accused of because ICC does into have witnesses or evidence.

Kenyans defy Kambi jobs warning From Page 1 Majority of those returning from the oil-rich region have narrated tales of tricksters who lead them to ‘slavery’ once they land in the countries. Just Monday this week, Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi revoked licences of 930 agencies hiring Kenyans to work in the Gulf region. Kambi said the groups were briefcase outfits responsible for the suffering of migrant workers. The firms were directed to undergo fresh and rigorous vetting exercise to get fresh licenses. “The Government has a
responsibility to protect citizens, including those who are outside the country. In view of the foregoing, the Government has decided to revoke all accreditation certificates issued to private employment agencies,” Kambi told a news conference in Nairobi. “We want to address the plight of Kenyans, especially women, who suffer all kinds of mistreatment in the hands of employers in countries such as Saudi Arabia,” said Ali Ismali, the Labour Principal Secretary. But this has not deterred the likes of Kibosu.
“Yes, I have heard and read about what happens to people in those countries but I am so desperate for a job that I am willing to go work there,” she told X News. Kibosu’s children, a boy and a girl, are aged 10 and 6 respectively. Her husband walked out on them two years ago to expose her to the burden of raising the two. Her mother, with whom she lives, is ailing and she needs drugs which she can no longer afford. Her agent, whom she insists is trustworthy, says he will get her a passport and an air ticket when time is ripe for travel.
“I will pay him back when I start working. He promised me I will be earning Sh80, 000 a month which he will deduct a percentage for himself while the rest he will give to my family,” she says. And Kibosu is not alone is this brazen disregard of Kambi’s warning. Sidney Karuiki, a student at a local college in Nairobi’s CBD, has received a job offer in Saudi Arabia as a night security manager through an agent. “I saw some fliers on a tree advertising jobs in Saudi Arabia,” he says. “I called the number and
we met at a restaurant where he gave me a list of available jobs and I chose this one. “He got me a passport and catered for all my requirements which I will pay back him once I start working.” Kariuki needs the job to pay for school fees. “I don’t plan to work there forever… maybe for three to four years and when I save enough money, I will come back to complete my college degree and get a better job.” He is leaving in two weeks to start his job as a night security manager.

Boxer Floyd ‘The Money Man’ Mayweather was shocked and appalled when a woman he met in a barbershop did not know who he was. The undefeated champion met his match earlier this week in a conversation that degenerated into a heated argument. While having a hair cut in a London barbershop, the boxer was approached by a female customer who later told him she had no idea who he was. “I don’t know you,” she said in a video that was posted on SpiffTV. “What’s the big deal? I just don’t watch boxing. I know about Mike Tyson.” Mayweather, who was accompanied by members of his entourage, popularly known as ‘The Money Team’, appeared stunned. “I just want to know what the biggest fight you ever fought is?” the woman asked. “I like big fights, I like exciting fights. If it’s not big, I don’t watch it.” At this point, one of Mayweather’s team responded: “He’s the biggest in the world.” “I know Usain Bolt”, she said, to which Mayweather responded: “Who?” The 37-year-old added: “Do you know what Forbes Magazine is? Well you go and pull up one of those.” Forbes Magazine this year stated that Mayweather is the highest-paid sportsman in the world ahead of football star Cristiano Ronaldo, basketball superstar LeBron James and star striker Lionel Messi. Mayweather earned $105 million in the past year, making him the highest-earning athlete of 2014.

CDC officials will tour Senegal to study its containment model. “The best practices in Nigeria and Senegal suggest the US should monitor all individuals who may have been exposed to Ebola and establish a dedicated management and response system,” Frieden said.

Court sets Pangani blast car owner free
Humans wear angry faces as a sign of strength
The owner of the vehicle that was used in a bomb explosion at the Pangani Police Station in April has been acquitted. Trial magistrate, Lucy Mbugua ruled that there was no evidence linking Ahmed Dugal to the bomb attack. The court had previously been told that investigators could not establish a link between Dugal and Hajir Abdow Kassim, who blew himself up in the car on April 24.
Humans evolved to see a fierce scowl as a sign of strength, scientists say. “Angry faces developed over generations to make us ‘look tough’,” explains one researcher. Doctor Aaron Sell, who led the research, said: “The reason natural selection designed the angry face is that the individuals who made the face out-reproduced the other ones. Natural selection, the main process behind evolution, as stated by Charles Darwin, is also known as survival of the fittest, meaning those with superior traits are more likely to pass on their genes to the next generation. Today, an angry face can scare away attackers, convince siblings to stop bothering the person making the face, or force a person to receive faster service from a waiter for instance. Dr Sell added: “In many animal species, before aggression, animals will pose in ways that enhance the cue of fighting ability that they have.” “Hair can stand on edge to make the mammal seem larger; lips are pulled back to make fangs look as large as possible.”

all times, Kimaiyo tells VIPs
The Inspector General of Police, David Kimaiyo has asked all persons assigned personal security to desist from assigning their bodyguards other duties apart from the role of maintaining their safety. In a speech read by Administration Police spokesman Masoud Mwinyi yesterday, the police boss, without naming any one in particular, expressed concern that some people who are assigned security officers for their personal safely, often send them on other errands. Kimaiyo warned that this exposes the VIPs to security risks. “Once an officer has been assigned protection duties, this officer will never and must never be assigned any other duty apart from that of protection,” he stated. “So that at any given time, this officer is able to answer to any incident and be able to respond, but most

protection, there must be a strong bond between the protector and the one who is being protected,” he pointed out. The IG directive comes after a series of attacks on VIPs, with the latest being in Kwale County, where former

of tourists coming into the country. Kandie says much of this has to do with the government focusing more on national branding than product branding. “Tourist numbers are also expected to increase following the relaxing of travel advisory
by Britain,” she said. Brand Kenya CEO, Mary Kimonye said many Kenyans are optimistic that devolution will work for their counties but they express concern that they haven’t been involved enough in the county affairs. Many Kenyans have, however, dropped their levels of
patriotism and national pride over issues such as unemployment, traffic jams and inadequate garbage collection mechanisms. Other issues highlighted by the survey are the willingness of over 80 per cent of Kenyans to buy Kenyan made goods such as food.

Doctors’ latest efforts to eliminate HIV virus flops
Taking drugs within hours of HIV infection does not eliminate the virus, doctors treating a baby in Milan, Italy, have warned. This is after the virus thought to have been cleared from her bloodstream re-emerged soon after anti-retroviral treatment stopped. Doctors had hoped rapid treatment would prevent HIV from taking root in the body. But following the developments, experts now believe there was “still some way to go” before a cure is found. Drug treatment has come a long way since HIV became a global crisis in 1980s. Anti-retrovirals merely clear the virus from the bloodstream, leaving reservoirs of HIV in other organs. The hope was that acting before the reservoirs form would be an effective cure. Doctors at the University of Milan and the Don Gnocchi Foundation have reported a case carried in the Lancet medical journal of a baby

Nyachae team rejects MPs’ new law allowing grilling of Cabinet chiefs The Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) has threatened to move to court should MPs force Cabinet Secretaries to appear before them in plenary sessions. Chairman Charles Nyachae (pictured) says the amended Standing Orders that require Cabinet Secretaries to appear and answer questions is unconstitutional. CIC will seek a court’s determination if the law is not revoked, Nyachae told a news conference on Thursday. The CSs have also expressed discomfort with the law, saying it will adversely affect their work. During a meeting with MPs at Parliament Building on Tuesday, the ministers said they do not have assistants and balancing duty with the requirements to appear in the House will affect their discharge of duty. Nyachae said his commission had written to the Speaker of National
Assembly Justin Muturi and President Kenyatta on “the violations.” He said the constitution only requires a minister appear before House committees whose chairpersons would report to Parliament. Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Lenku, his Lands counterpart Charity Ngilu and Education’s Jacob Kaimenyi are set to face MPs on October 14 when the national Assembly resumes sittings. They will be the first ministers to face the MPs.
agreement with the mother, we stopped antiretroviral therapy,” the doctors said. For one week everything seemed fine, but in the second week, and after treatment stopped, the virus returned. “Just a couple of hours after infection, the virus has started seeding
organs and hides so therapy cannot eradicate HIV,” Prof Mario Clerici of the University of Milan told the BBC. “You can treat patients, but you cannot cure them. Right now it is impossible.” In July, a baby girl in US born with HIV and believed cured
after very early treatment was found to still harbour the virus. Doctors said tests on the four-year-old child from Mississippi showed she was no longer in remission. She had appeared free of HIV as recently as March, without receiving treatment for nearly two years. “A cure for HIV
is still at ground zero,” said Prof Clerici. Prof Sanjaya Senanayake of the Australian National University Medical School, said: “This case shows that undetectable HIV in the blood does not mean the body is free of virus and there is still some way to go before a cure is found.”
Anti-poaching walk set for tomorrow Conservationists will tomorrow hold a demonstration in Nairobi to press for the shunning of ivory and rhino horn products as a way of curbing poaching. The demonstration will be part of the Global March for Elephants and Rhinos (GMFER) to be held in 120 cities across the world.
The march organiser Robert Rono told X-News they will seek to raise awareness and ask governments around the world to publicly destroy stockpiles of illegal wildlife products. They believe this is one way of showing zero tolerance to illegal trade in wildlife products. “We are calling on all Kenyans who care for wildlife
to join us in this walk,” he said. “Debating statistics is no longer relevant,” the GMFER event organisers said. “It doesn’t matter which data you choose to look at since there is no denying the world is rapidly losing elephants, rhino and lions to poachers.” Leading conservation groups such as Youth for Nature,

Save the Elephants, Elephant Voices, Kenyans United Against Poaching (KUAPO), Wildlife Direct and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) will take part in the demonstration that is set to start from the National Museums at 9am. Participants will march along Uhuru Highway, Lang’ata road and end at Uhuru Gradens. Other marches will be held in Maasai Mara in Narok and Diani Beach-Mombasa, Rono said. Kenya has precious wildlife but poachers threaten to wipe out the precious wild game. In January last year, a number of Kenyans took to the streets to protest the killing of 11 elephants in Tsavo area. Organisers said the protests instigated the Global March Movement. “There was no march held in Kenya last year due to the Westgate tragedy. This year we can all march and be proud of a Global effort that grew from just a few concerned Kenyans caring about wildlife,” Rono said.

US patient faces court action for lying on Ebola US Ebola patient, Thomas Eric Duncan is now facing prosecution after authorities established that he lied on his health before leaving Liberia for the US. Board chairman of the Liberia Airport Authority Binyah Kesselly says the authorities will “seek to prosecute” if Duncan lied on his health screening questionnaire before he left West Africa.
They say the patient answered “no” to questions about whether he had cared for a patient with the deadly virus just days before he became the first person diagnosed with Ebola on American soil. He also answered ‘No’ to a question about whether he had touched the body of someone who died in an area affected by the disease, Kesselly said. However, witnesses say
inothernews Paparazzi warned off little Prince George Lawyers acting for Prince William, second-in-line to the throne, and his wife Kate, have written to freelance photographers asking them to stop following their baby son, George. This came after an incident in a central London park last week when one individual was spotted near Prince George and his nanny. “They are obviously
concerned,” a spokesman for the royal couple said. He also noted that the men had “over a period of time established a pattern of behaviour that we think amounts to harassment of Prince George and of his nanny”. “It’s more the fundamental weirdness of two grown men following a 14-month-old baby around
London that we’re concerned about,” the spokesman said. The issue of harassment by the paparazzi is particularly sensitive for William, whose mother Princess Diana was killed with her lover Dodi al-Fayed in Paris in 1997 when her limousine crashed in a tunnel as they tried to flee a pack of chasing photographers.
Duncan had been helping Ebola patients in Liberia. Liberian community leader, Tugbeh Chieh Tugbeh said Duncan was caring for an Ebola-infected patient at a residence in Paynesville City, just outside Monrovia. And Liberia President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has also hinted that they could prosecute Duncan when he returns to the West African nation already ravaged by
the virus. She said she would consult with lawyers to decide what to do. The fact that he knew (he was exposed to the virus) and he left the country is unpardonable, quite frankly,” Ms Sirleaf told Canadian public broadcaster CBC on Thursday. “I just hope that nobody else gets infected.” “With the US doing so much to help us fight Ebola, and again one of our compatriots
didn’t take due care, and so, he’s gone there and ... put some Americans in a state of fear, and put them at some risk, and so I feel very saddened by that and very angry with him, to tell you the truth,” she added. Duncan’s family said he hadn’t mentioned any exposure to Ebola in Liberia insisting that they don’t believe he knew he had Ebola when he left Liberia.

President says reforms to boost farming harvest President Kenyatta has said his Government is carrying out key reforms in the agricultural sector to boost production and raise profits for farmers. Speaking when he officially opened this year’s Nairobi International Trade Fair, the President said agricultural institutions will be restructured to boost results. “We have consolidated and repealed various statutes which were obsolete and we have established the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Authority (AFFA) and Kenya
Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro),” he said. A total of Sh37 billion has been set aside for the Ministry of Agriculture to boost food production and pay for new programmes and policies, he said. He said the funds will pay for key projects in irrigation, reduce cost of farming equipment, develop fisheries and pay for the setting up of diseasefree zones for livestock farmers. He said one of the projects include a fertiliser factory which the Government plans to put up in partnership with Toyota Tsusho Company.
Felix Koskei, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture said the ministry will develop policies that will improve the sector. He said the ministry is consulting the Brazilian government for the acquisition of more than 500 tractors to promote mechanised farming. “My Government will progressively raise the allocation, year by year. I trust that within the next decade, we will achieve the goal of allocating 10pc of our budget to agriculture, as stipulated in the Maputo Declaration,” the President said.
Four thieves rob Microsoft, US army of Sh89b software Four hackers have been accused of stealing more than $100 million (Sh89.3 billion) worth of software by federal officials in US. Nathan Leroux, Sanadodeh Nesheiwat, Austin Alcala, and David Pokora are said to have hacked into computer networks of US military and Microsoft from where they stole software used to train Apache helicopter pilots. They also stole the source code and technical specifications related to Microsoft Xbox One gaming console and games, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The hackers reportedly
gained access to the targets by injecting malicious code into their networks and stealing user names and passwords from company workers. Two of the suspects, Pokora and Nesheiwat, have pleaded guilty to the crime and are awaiting sentencing in January. Federal authorities have seized $620,000 (55.1 million) from the alleged proceeds scheme, which they claim ran from January 2011 until March this year. They have accused the men of conspiracy to use, share and sell stolen information.

Coke chiefs forced to take Sh6.7b pay slash Soft drink maker, Coca-Cola, has slashed the number of shares it hands out to the highest earning staff as part of changes to the executive compensation plan. Under the new guidelines, Coke will limit the number of shares awarded to executives in 2014 by about $75m (Sh6.7b) to $150m (Sh13.4b). The move, which was announced earlier this
week, comes months after billionaire, Warren Buffett criticised the soft drink giant and called its pay practices “excessive.” Buffet, known as the most successful investor of the 20th century, has an annual salary of about $100,000 (Sh8.9m) and is worth $67b (Sh6 trillion). His firm, Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA), is one of the largest
owners of Coca Cola’s stocks. He is BRKA’s CEO while the son, Howard, sits on the board of directors. Coke also pledged to be more transparent and have an “open dialogue” with investors about the company’s compensation policies, including seeking feedback on the “alignment of pay with performance.” This could mean executives
who do well in the company could earn more bonuses. Shareholders seemed to like the proposal. “Shareowner input on this important topic has directly led to the development of these new guidelines,” said Maria Elena Lagomasino, chair of the company’s compensation committee.
The highest earning households spend the largest proportion of food budget on meats and eggs. This is about a quarter of all cash spent on food in a month. The insights come at a time as fast food joints have been associated with a trigger of a health epidemic that has hit the developing world. Obesity levels have almost doubled across the world in the past 30 years and affected more than 500 million people, the Lancet Medical Journal has reported. As Kenya’s middle class growth rages, lifestyle diseases such as obesity are becoming ever more common. The study shows that wealthy households spend 23 per cent of food budgets on fruits and vegetables, 22 pc on bread and ugali as 17 pc goes to dairy products, such as milk. Meanwhile, the lowest earning households spend the greatest portion of their money on staple foods such as bread and ugali (32 pc). Fruits and vegetables take 21 pc of the income, while meat and eggs (15 pc) as dairy products take 13 pc.

Nairobi sits bottom on new cities of opportunities index Nairobi has been ranked 30th, out of a list of 30 cities, in Price Waterhouse Cooper’s sixth edition of Cities of Opportunities index. The index analyzes the trajectory of 30 of the world’s most significant cities – after being judged on levels of all capitals of finance, commerce, intellectual capital and innovation, technology, number of tourists and airports, transportation, healthcare, crime, sustainability, pollution, liveability and culture – just to name a few. The 30 chosen cities – which included London, New York, Johannesburg and Nairobi – were selected based on three criteria: cities that are capital market centers, represent a broad geographic sampling, and comprise both mature and emerging economies. London, New York, Singapore, Toronto and San Francisco topped the list.

To succeed in business, don’t tthink of quitting
Seasoned entrepreneurs say to remain successful, first-time business owners should motivate themselves. Author and entrepreneur, Alex Lawrence says the key to remaining motivated is to assume that a business will be active forever. By having what Lawrence describes as having “no real exit strategy” , business owners can ‘force’ themselves to make their investment last. A chicken breeder, for instance, can expand his operation instead of selling it to another business owner. A taxi operator can, likewise, buy a second vehicle or hire someone else to drive his current car, instead of opting out of the business. From his 20 years of experience as a start-up investor, Lawrence has seen many entrepreneurs move on to their next business, while others “take a break to lick their wounds, and still others seem to leave startup life permanently.” “The light of failure shines brightly on those who aren’t in business for the right reasons.” He says starting a business to sell it should be an option. “The best entrepreneurs aren’t focused on how they can sell the business,” he explains. “Focus on how you sell the product.”

Local authorities in Mombasa have made a proposal to impose new taxes on cargo at Kenya’s main port, causing an uproar from the government and shippers alike, who argue that it will hike import prices. The draft bill on the new taxes includes proposals for a charge of $60 (Sh5,360) for ships weighing of up to 1,000 tonnes and $300 (Sh26,800) for vessels weighing 30,000 tonnes or more. Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho, who backs the proposed law, has said the port should be managed by the Mombasa county authorities and not the central government so that its revenues can be used to improve services in the city, a popular tourist destination. Rival regional ports are likely to gain as the tax will drive shippers to other ports in the region. Kenya’s government has been striving to improve efficiency at the port of Mombasa, currently a congested gateway that serves Kenya and landlocked countries like South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda.

The makeup bag ABCs What are the true essentials for your makeup pouch? It’s slightly different for everyone, but there are some bare basics you should miss. For some women, that little pouch isn’t so little anymore. When you have to buy a bigger purse just to
accommodate your makeup bag, you’re carrying around way too much stuff. Only carry the essentials - and that’s more than enough. Wondering what these are? Here’s what made my cut:
A compact mirror Compact mirrors are perfect because they can easily fit in your makeup bag without taking up too much space. They are also great if you need to touch up your makeup in transit. Pressed or loose powder For an on-the-go makeup bag, you’ll probably want to go with pressed powder instead of loose powder. It’s less likely to leak out all over the bag, and it typically comes with a built-in applicator so you don’t have to carry a
separate brush. Eye shadow Luckily, eye shadow often comes in handy “expert coordinated” palettes, in which you’ll find three or more colors in one little case. It’s a space saver, and it can help you identify the right combination of colors for your look. Eyeliner Eyeliner defines and accentuates the shape of your eyes. It can add a touch of glamour to an everyday look.

Men’s underwear
Beauty has no rules and that is why women are always coming up with new and exciting ways to accentuate their looks. Fake eyelashes and acrylic nails are some of the common ways devised for beauty enhancement but there are other unconventional ways that women have adopted to help in their daily beautification routine. One such way is the use of toothpaste to get rid of pimples. Toothpaste contains three main ingredients; xylitol an alcohol that treats bacteria, triclosan, an antifungal agent and abrasive that helps in exfoliation. When toothpaste is rubbed on the skin, it draws impurities out of clogged pores and dries the skin which shrinks the pimple, thus leaving a clear skin. Raw potatoes can also be used to de-puff the eyes. Dr. Frances Jang, a dermatologist at Skinworks in Canada, recommends using raw potato slices to soothe the eyes because they help decrease water retention around the eyes. Potatoes also contain the enzyme catalase which helps lighten dark patches under eye circles. Place the slices on each eye for 10 minutes then rinse gently with lukewarm water.

A man must have countless comfortable underwear for health and social reasons. Countless because some men are too lazy to wash their used under garments on a daily basis. Showering a million times a day does not make you super clean if you end up wearing dirty undies. Having more than enough in your drawers keeps smelly ones away. Underwear come in various sizes, designs, colours, brands and patterns. Be it sexy thongs, briefs, roomy boxer shorts or tight boxer shorts, they should be plainly styled, supportive, subtly patterned, clean and comfortable. They provide great comfort and support to the genital area when they fit well. A loose one gives an unattractive bunchy look while extremely tight ones hinder proper blood circulation. A hard grip on the waist and thighs ignites skin irritation and rashes resulting to uneasiness around the groin area. Worse still, tight undies are feared to pose fertility risks for men such as reduced sperm count. Each type of underwear suits different occasions. Loose boxer shorts are great for just lounging around the house when you alone or with your girlfriend.

Swordsmen preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an advancing opponent.
Why some countries drive on the left and others right
More than 30 per cent of the world’s population drives on the left, while the bigger percentage keeps right. Most of the countries that drive on the left, among them Kenya, are British colonies. But why the left in some countries and right in others? In medieval-time UK most people walked on the left. This because common travellers at the time were also right-handed swordsmen, who preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an advancing opponent. In addition, right-handed people easily mount and
dismount horses from the left side of the horse. Even at these pre-development times, natives could already tell that it was safer to dismount towards the side of the road and as such riders found it practical to keep left. Countries like France and the United States began driving on the right in the late 1700s. At this time farmers hauled their harvests in large carts pulled by a number of horses. The wagons did not have driver’s seat and instead the driver sat on the left rear horse, so he could keep his right arm free to lash the others. By sitting on the left,
it made it more sensible for the teamsters to ride on the right, so that they could see oncoming wagons. In addition, the French Revolution of 1789 contributed greatly to the adoption of right-hand travel in Europe. Before the Revolution, the ruling class travelled on the left of the road, forcing the peasants to the right. However, after the revolution, high-class citizens preferred to keep a low profile and joined the peasants on the right. An official keep-right rule was introduced in Paris in 1794,
motoringnews Lamborghini unveil first hybrid concept car Italian luxury sports car maker Lamborghini has unveiled its first hybrid concept car, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4, at the Paris Motor Show. The Asterion hybrid strength is based on three driving modes; pure electric, pure thermal power or a combination of both systems
also known as ibrido, Italian for hybrid. Oxford dictionary defines a hybrid vehicle as any car with a petrol engine and electric motor each of which can propel it. Lamborghini claims the hybrid power system can hit 0-100 kph in three seconds. Although the Asterion is only at concept stage, its hybrid competitors like Ferrari’s LaFerrari,
Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1, are all already in showrooms. Some are more powerful and faster than the Asterion. Lamborghini’s advantage over the rival hybrids is ability to run on purely electric mode, a stunt the rivals can only dream of. “This is a car you can drive in cities in pure-electric mode, but also a car whose thermodynamic engine
delivers the same emotion as a pure Lamborghini,” said Lamborghini Head of Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani. Another cool feature of the Asterion is a three hexagon shape clear glass cover over the engine compartment which changes color depending on the driving mode. Lamborghini head of design Felippo Perini says the Asterion will meet
expectations, especially after huge amounts of time money and energy spent on the concept. “I don’t like creating concepts that aren’t ready for production. The Asterion proposes a real future Lamborghini, not a fake one,” said Perini. Let us hope the advantage Asterion has over other hybrids will be enough to propel it to showrooms in near future.

Fill in the blank spaces with the numbers 1 – 9. Every row, column and 3 x 3 box must contain all nine digits with no number repeated.
Friendswood, a small town in Texas, has oil rigs. It also suffers occasional hurricanes and loves high school football games. Tragedy strikes when improperly buried waste from the rigs makes its way to the ground. The number of birth defects and cancer rates blow up, houses are abandoned and burned to the ground. Nobody knows what to do anymore. The fate of the town’s folks is unbalanced. Years later after the toxic waste leak, people start experiencing amnesia. Only one woman has her faculties around her as she fights the city council for approving and clearing toxic land for redevelopment. But will she win against such major giants as the government and a private firm that wants to develop the land?

Costa vows to punish Arsenal in Sunday derby Diego Costa has promised to punish Arsenal on Sunday. Summer signing Costa is the Premier League’s top scorer with eight in his first six matches for Chelsea. But while Costa failed to score his first Champions League goal for the Blues as they edged past Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in Tuesday’s group game, the Brazilian-born Spain international promised to lead from
the front against Arsene Wenger’s men. Costa said of Sunday’s London derby at Stamford Bridge: “Of course I will play against Arsenal. I am certain. “I played 90 minutes (in Lisbon) and now I can have a rest. I do not see a problem. “There are a few niggles that are annoying me, but I’m working to treat them during the week with physios and the medical staff.
“Yes, there are days when I do not train so I can prevent problems, but there are other days when I can train. It is a matter of communication between me and the medical staff to find the best way possible to move forward and get over the problem. Ideally you would be training every day but there have been many times when I have not, more as a precaution than anything. But things are improving.”
Former Man United midfielder Park Ji-Sung has returned to the club to take up the role as Club Ambassador. To celebrate his appointment, Park will be invited to tread Old Trafford’s hallowed turf with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson before kickoff at the team’s October 5 home fixture against Everton. As part of his role, the player will attend events and functions on behalf of the club, promoting its work in the community and sharing
anecdotes from his time at Old Trafford. Park played for United for seven years between 2005 to 2012 and won many accolades. He is recognised as the most decorated Asian footballer in history and the first Asian player to win the UEFA Champions League and Fifa Club World Cup. Speaking of his appointment, Park said he is honoured to return to a club close to his heart.
“I have fond memories of my time at Manchester United and I am delighted and honoured to have become an ambassador for the club. “Some of the best moments of my life and career were spent here and I will never forget the great support I had from the club and the fans. I am looking forward to once again representing United and sharing some of these memories with our global fan base.”

Reds’ boss still hopeful Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers refused to be downbeat about his side’s Champions League prospects despite a poor performance in Basel on Wednesday evening and with the team set to face Real Madrid next, he’s optimistic his side will rise up to the occasion. The Reds were deservedly beaten 1-0 by the Swiss champions at the St JakobPark as captain Marco Streller netted the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half. Rodgers’s side had already required a stoppage-time Steven Gerrard penalty to beat Bulgarian outsiders Ludogorets Razgrad in their opening Group B game and the prospect of two matches against the Champions League holders is surely enough to strike fear into fans of the Anfield club just now. However, the Liverpool manager insisted: “The group is still very close. It was always going to be a group that went right to the end, certainly for second place. “We are under no illusions that it will be tough. Our objective is still to get through to the knockout stages,” he added. Liverpool, in their first Champions League campaign in five years, are tied with Basel on three points with Madrid top on six points after a 2-1

victory at Ludogorets. The Spaniards visit Anfield on October 22 with the return at the Santiago Bernabeu on November 4 and Rodgers knows his side will have to defend better going forward. And Rodgers, while he felt his team should have come away with a draw as Mario
Balotelli and Lazar Markovic both came close in the second half, echoed those comments. “We never got going in the first 25 minutes, but then we grew into the game. But when you concede a soft goal like that it is difficult, away from home against a side who have a
Carmelo claims he is NBA’s most underrated player New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony believes he’s the most underrated star player in the NBA. “I think I’m the most underrated superstar that’s out there (laughs) but that doesn’t matter to me,” Anthony told ESPN’s Chris Broussard. Anthony was responding to a question about the possibility of him being underrated because he hasn’t yet won an NBA title. “I know what I’m capable of doing. I know the grind and the hard work I put in to this,” Anthony said, “I know how consistent I’ve been over my career. To do it day in and day out and night in and night out on a very consistent basis year in year out, I know what I can do and I know the work I’ve put in. “So as far as caring about if I’m underrated as a superstar, and getting the respect I deserve, I don’t worry about that. In due time if everything goes well, I will get it,” he added.
Anthony is undoubtedly one of the top scorers in basketball. He won the NBA’s scoring title in 2012-13 and finished second to Kevin Durant last season. But Anthony’s individual success hasn’t translated to his teams performing at an elite level. Anthony’s teams have made the playoffs in 10 of his 11 seasons in the NBA but have advanced past the second round just once. Some equate that to a lack of talent surrounding Anthony. Others use it as a way to critique the seven-time All-Star. Anthony was asked by Broussard if he’s bothered by the idea that he’s not known to be in the same class as LeBron James and Durant -- the men widely recognized as the top two players.
good record against English teams,” he said. Rodgers defended Balotelli, despite a poor performance by the Italian, but accepted that his side are currently nothing like the often irresistible force that came close to winning the Premier League last season.
“Technically we are nowhere near where we were at last year, but I am hoping that as players come back from injury that we will get better,” he admitted. Liverpool could be handed a boost ahead of the match against West Bromwich with the return of Daniel Sturridge from injury.
NZ Metro players stranded in Nairobi after 7s A group of Auckland Metro rugby Sevens players were left stranded in Kenya following a dispute with a representative of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU). The 11 New Zealand Metro players had just taken part in the Safaricom Sevens tournament in Nairobi and were due to fly out on Sunday – at the expense of the KRU. It is alleged the coach and players were instead offered travel on a later flight leaving Tuesday, September 30. While the coach, physiotherapist and referee opted to return on Sunday as planned, a group of players chose to fly home Tuesday evening. It is understood the players were informed one hour before they were due at the airport that they could not travel. One of the players, former All Blacks Sevens star Rocky Khan, posted a tweet to the IRB Sevens and Emirates Airlines, pleading for help. “Kenya Rugby Union flew us over here to play and now aren’t flying us back home to NZ,” he wrote. “Help?” However a statement from KRU on Thursday said the issue had been sorted with the players set to travel later on the day.

Typhoon Phanfone threatens Japanese GP Unexpected win a big boost for teacher As the Guinness ‘Get Booked’ campaign gains momentum, 40 year old Patrick Wambua a father of four is one of the lucky winners bagging Sh100,000. An ardent football fan, the secondary school teacher says he plans to use the money to pay school fees for his four children and also fund
some other investment plans. “I have never been lucky to win even a key holder. I thank God this was my lucky chance to win, I am currently building my family house and it is at the stage where I need to buy paint. The money will come in handy as I was trying to save some money to buy the paint”.
OPPORTUNITY: Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to outdo teammate Nico Rosberg in the Japanese Grand Prix as he seeks a world championship.
Force India driver Sergio Perez says Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix may not go ahead if Typhoon Phanfone hits Suzuka. The typhoon is brewing up over the Pacific Ocean, and rain is expected for Friday practice, ahead of dry weather for qualifying on Saturday. Mexican Perez, 24, said: “Rain will come tomorrow. The hurricane might come. If it comes, probably we won’t be able to race.” Williams’s Valtteri Bottas said: “There is a big chance of big rain on Sunday.” Felipe Massa, Bottas’s team-mate, said: “I hope we can have the race and the weather doesn’t affect us.” Forecasters say the rain band associated with the northern edge of Typhoon
Phanfone will track towards Japan over the next few days and will be south of Suzuka, about 250 miles away, at the time of the race on Sunday. MeteoGroup forecaster Alexi Venerus said the typhoon may not hit Japan but that there was great uncertainty about its path. “The weather itself for the actual area won’t be particularly very nice but in terms of the high-strength winds, they look like they should still be well off shore or further south anyway,” she said. “The actual weather condition won’t be too great for Saturday because it will be getting closer and that whole system will be moving up and that drags with it the humidity of the air and the wet air and then the clouds as well.
“The closer we get to it, the weather will start to deteriorate. “We’re looking at it turning into a super typhoon - the wind strengths get up quite significantly - so I would look at some damage being caused.” The race is part of the run-in for the world championship battle between Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Hamilton leads by three points following his victory in Singapore two weeks ago and there are 150 points available over the remaining five races. The battle between the two has been intense, with a number of flashpoints over the season. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, 60 points behind Hamilton, cannot be ruled out as a contender.
Chemelil boss demands respect, says they are still in the race Chemelil Sugar coach Mike Mururi says his team should be treated with the seriousness of a title contender in the remaining five league matches. Mururi insists they are still within reach of winning the coveted Kenyan Premier League title despite gap with league leaders being seven points. “The team is still in good shape even though we lost in our last league match. We only need to work on a few things, mostly strengthen our midfield and all will be well. “The point difference is not huge, meaning that the title is still within our reach if we can continue pushing for it.” Chemelil, fourth on the log with 41 points, play fifth-placed Ulinzi Stars this

afternoon seeking to narrow the points deficit with the leading group. “We started off strongly and have not looked back. We will keep fighting hard until the end. We are in the title race
and will not give up” Mururi said. “Ulinzi, I can say are a team on form, despite being the home team we can’t afford to under estimate them, we have to fight hopefully we get all the points.”
