AG proposes law to tame rogue priests REST IN PEACE: Renowned televangelist Dr Myles Munroe died in a plane crash in the Bahamas, yesterday. STORY ON PAGE 2

Days after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordered for investigations into the activities of preacher Victor Kanyari for obtaining money through fake miracles, the Government plans to apply tough laws that will shield faithful from marauding pastors. Attorney General Githu Muigai on Sunday said he will form a task force to review the Societies Act on registration and operations of religious communities, churches, mosques and temples.

AG plans law on rogue priests From Page 1 And the Presidency has welcomed the idea. State House said on Facebook the proposal will address controversies arising from religious organisations. “The Attorney General has proposed to the Government a framework for the registration and management of religious communities, churches, mosques and temples,” it said in the post.

Top on the agenda of the proposals is ensuring accountability and transparency among religious groups. The development comes hot on the heels of an expose on Salvation Healing Ministries preacher Victor Kanyari which showed him coaching staff on how to deliver false testimonies so as to induce people to “plant seeds” for miracles to occur in their lives. The preacher has not denied the

claims and has instead claimed no one was ever forced to send the cash. Yesterday, youths manning the entrance to the church premises at the Nyamakima area in downtown Nairobi retrained journalists from accessing the venue. His unmasking has dominated discussions in the past few days as leaders of evangelical churches asked the State to crack down on commercial pastors.

In the AG’s proposals, the State will require religious groups to strictly operate under the guidelines of spirituality they claim to promote. Tobiko has directed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate Kanyari to ascertain whether he has been obtaining money through false pretences, cheating and other acts that contradict law and order. The Government is working on a model for registration of religious

organisations in the wake of the expose on Kanyari’s activities. State House said on Sunday the AG has proposed to the Government “a framework for registration and management of religious communities.” The proposal stipulates that only “churches, mosques and temples that reflect transparency, accountability and spirituality will be registered.”

REST IN PEACE: Dr Myles Munroe and wife, Ruth, were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Sunday.

US priest, wife, killed in Bahamas jet crash

Internationally renowned preacher, best-selling author and business coach, Dr Myles Munroe, and his wife, Ruth Ann, died in a plane crash on Sunday. The Associated Press says the plane reportedly struck a crane at the Grand Bahama Ship Yard before exploding on impact. The jet crashed into the ground near a junkyard. The Bahamas Ministry of Transport and Aviation reported that the Lear 36 executive jet departed the Lynden Pindling

International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau, Bahamas, at 4:07pm for the Grand Bahama International Airport, a privately owned international airport in Freeport with nine people on board. The plane crashed as it made an approach for landing at the Grand Bahama International Airport at 5.10pm, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation said. The crash killed all nine people on board although the identities of the other people on board have not yet been confirmed. The cause of the crash was

not immediately determined, although there had been heavy rain across the region. A full investigation is expected to begin today. The crash occurred as people were gathering in Grand Bahama for Dr. Munroe’s 2014 Global Leadership Forum which was set to start today. Munroe was in Kenya three weeks ago for major motivational speaking session. During the visit, he was hosted on local TV shows, including KTN’s Jeff Koinange Live where

he gave a premonition of his death. “I want to challenge every Kenyan to go to the cemetery and disappoint the graveyard. Die like the Apostle Paul, who said I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and I have been poured out like a drink offering. There is nothing left. I am ready to die,” he said. “That’s the way I wanna die. I wanna die because there is nothing else to keep me alive. I have done what I was born to do,” he said.

The Barometer shows that 77 per cent of such executives approve the risk of collaborative activities like open sourcing and crowdsourcing as necessary for innovation. Speaking during a previous forum, CFO of GE Africa, Thomas Konditi said: “Kenya has demonstrated a strong record in innovation with many executives viewing collaboration, skills development and regulatory support as key contributory factors for broadening the innovation play in Kenya. GE Africa is committed to working with stakeholders to help Kenya realise its full innovation potential.” Not a lot of Kenyans believe in the government’s support for innovation, says a report from Ventures Africa. The Barometer reveals that only 36 per cent of the sampled executives agree that government support for innovation is efficient.

Ministry warns Kenyans on fake power connection agents

The Ministry of Energy has warned Kenyans of fraudsters masquerading as electricity connections agents who are likely to escalate connectivity costs. Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has asked Kenyans to deal directly with ministry officials. “Deal with Kenya Power officers. Avoid middlemen. I know they are unhappy with what we are doing to reduce the cost of connection to power,” Chirchir said. He said the Government is working hard to bring power closer to the people and ease connectivity for schools and other institutions. “The Government is doing a lot to connect all citizenry to electricity. We had connected 14,254 primary schools by June 2014. More schools will have power by June

2015,” he said. The ministry is working with African Development Bank to fund a Sh70 billion free connectivity project to consumers. He said consumers will enjoy significant drop in power bills by next month after fuel charge went down in August. Chirchir, however, said a bigger impact of up to 30 per cent will be felt by December. The Government is determined to make Kenya a competitive destination for investors who have traditionally turned to Egypt, South Africa and Mauritius whose power charge is lower and reliable. He said the move will reduce joblessness through the creation of new job opportunities besides and enhancing security. He said illegal connections had driven connection fees which are not

Kapedo military swoop won’t stop, says DP Ruto The military operation in Kapedo and nearby villages in parts of Turkana and Baringo counties will continue despite calls by local leaders for it to be halted. Deputy President William Ruto yesterday said the operations will continue until it achieves its mission of disarming locals and recovering all the guns stolen from 19 police officers who were killed by bandits on October 31. “We will not relent in our pursuit of the cattle rustlers who killed our security officers. We will continue the operation to get the culprits and make them to account,” he said in Kiambu. He asked leaders in the affected region to advise the residents against killings and cattle rustling. Most residents have now vacated their homes for fear of police brutality.

African business leaders pledge Sh2.6bn for Ebola fight Top African business leaders have established an emergency fund to help countries hit by the Ebola outbreak. A pledging meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, raised $28.5m (Sh2.6 billion) to deploy at least 1,000 health workers to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Experts say that if the disease is to be speedily contained, it needs to be tackled in these three countries. Nearly 5,000 people out of about 14,000 cases have been killed by the virus, most of them in Liberia. Speaking at the end of the Addis Abada meeting, African Union chairman Dlamini Zuma said the resources mobilised would be part of a longer term program to deal with similar outbreaks in future. The chairman of telecommunications giant Econet Wireless, Strive Masiyiwa, said that several companies had pledged money to the emergency fund - to be managed by the African Development Bank. The Ethiopia meeting took place as Liberia was reported by the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) on

Friday to have seen a significant reduction in the number of new cases. It warned, however, that Ebola was still on the rise in Guinea and Sierra Leone. Chris Stokes, the head of MSF’s Ebola response, told the BBC that the decrease in the number of cases in Liberia presented an opportunity for health workers to step up their work. But he said the disease could “flare up” again, pointing to Guinea, where the number of cases is rising again despite two significant lulls. Of the West African countries hit by the 11-month outbreak, Liberia has seen the most deaths. But last weekend its health ministry said two-thirds of the 696 beds in the country’s treatment centers were empty. Liberia’s government has been running an awareness campaign, advertising the best health practices and installing hand washing stations at buildings across the country. But despite significant contributions from the US, the UK and China, the head of the UN mission fighting Ebola says more help is needed.

Farmer makes Sh350,000 from quarter acre plot Who can make Sh350,000 a year from only a quarter of an acre plot of land? Jacob Muhia can. He has achieved this feat by growing high value crops that many local farmers have refused to embrace. He has stocked his quarteracre piece of arable land with high value crops like tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and bananas. Produce from Muhia’s plots fetches close to Sh350, 000 in the market annually, an

amount which agribusiness experts say is enormous considering the small size of his plot. He has been encouraging smallholder farmers to quit growing low-return crops like maize and adopt higher value produce that will yield more returns. “I am encouraging smallholder farmers to grow crops that will insulate them from food insecurity, crops like sweet potatoes, cassava and beans that are

drought resistant and would provide a good diet,” he said. “Beyond that, growing high value crops and valueadding are strategies that make these small holdings viable.” In a Rome meeting held in June last year, delegates for the United Nations world food summit confirmed that small-scale farmers need better and affordable access to seeds, fertilizer, chemicals and other inputs to become more productive.

ArE rEAdy to roCk Autopilots started out as a hip hop group in 2010 but gradually moved towards dance. The group is made up of MC Kenzie, Yobbz and Losh, three young men to whom music is passion. Are they finally ready to rock?

Who are the Autopilots? Autopilots is a music group of three like minded individuals who have a passion for music and entertaining as well. Why the name Autopilots? Autopilots is a name we adopted to show that we are self driven by our passion for music and we are doing it for the love of it. What genre of music do you do? We started out as a strictly hardcore hip hop outfit but with the changing trends in the music industry, we switched to a more danceable tune so as to reach out to a wider audience. When was the group founded?

Sheila Mwanyiga goes ‘Ngothaless’

Autopilots was formed in October 2010 when we were still in our second year in campus. It started out as a random freestyle session as we were chilling with our friends after class and in the end a group was born. What are some of the challenges you faced while getting into the industry? When we were starting out we did not have financial freedom and we relied on our little pocket money to pay for studio and other fees. Getting airplay and shows was also another main challenge because we were new to the scene and not many people had heard about us.

Sheila Mwanyiga is a beautiful woman, with great fashion sense--well, most of the time. In a rare moment, the AM Live presenter’s fashion star slipped when she posted a photo with a work out guru that showed a major camel toe. Did Sheila do that deliberately?

What is the inspiration behind your music? Our music is inspired by the daily happenings in our lives and the society as a whole. If you listen to our songs like our upcoming single “MaNightrunners” one can easily relate with the song. Who do you look up to in the industry? We look up to P-Unit, Abbass and Khaligraph Jones locally and internationally we admire Bones thugs and harmony. Which artistes have you worked with and on the same note which artistes would you like to work with?

We have collaborated with the legendary Kitu Sewer, of the group Mashifta, in our upcoming single “Manightrunners” which will be released in a week’s time. We have also done a collaboration with Tana P of Large Gang. We would like to work with Abass, Visita and the legendary Rabbit. In five years, where do you as a group see yourself? We want to build the brand Autopilots and become a household name in Kenya and Africa. Recognition on the world platform through awards both locally and internationally will be a major plus.

aturday was Monica Matu’s day as she trod the aisle to the man who loves her unconditionally and wants to be with her for the rest of their lives. Just under a year ago, John Kireru, a father of two, took her by sweet surprise when he went on his knee to ask for her hand in marriage. Monica, also a mother of two had been single for more than twenty years and John’s marriage proposal came as one of the best moments of her life. “I had gone to spend some time with him when he stunned me with the proposal,” said an overjoyed Monica. She had yearned for this moment for a long time and finally her wish was granted. After three years of courtship, the couple tied the knot at St. Francis Xavier in Parklands. The colourfully decorated church was swarmed with family and friends, who came to witness the sacred union of Monica and John. “People could not believe that at 45, I was finally getting married to the love of my life. They came in huge numbers to see it for themselves, beamed the elated bride. She glowed in her white netted and chiffon gown as she graced the aisle in the arms of her folks. Unlike most modern weddings, the groom’s men and maids lineup was humongous. Half of the maids wore green chiffon dresses while the rest were in pink. The groom’s party sported grey suits coupled with pink shirts and ties of their choice.

WHEN MONICA MARRIED JOHN

“Many people wanted to be in the lineup so it was really hard for me to choose my maids,” said Monica. As soon as the wedding had been officiated, the couple headed to the Windsor

Country Club for a photo shoot then later went to the reception grounds at Utalii Hotel on Thika Road. Upon arrival, the newlyweds were welcomed with song and dance.

Food was delicious but the colorful cake ensemble was tastier. All went on well as the feting proceeded late into the night. for their honeymoon, Monica and John plan to have a lovely time by themselves in

an undisclosed destination. “We are leaving the country to spend some time together and draw our family constitution,” Monica told XAccess. The couple owe the success of

their wedding to friends and family who stood by them and saw to it that they raised Sh1.6 million to cover the the costs. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kireru.

Koroga Festival lived up to expectations Yesterday, the Arboretum grounds was on fire... lyrically...as the fourth edition of the Koroga festival took place. Not even the light showers earlier on could have could have dampened the spirits of the droves in attendance. The venue was well decorated in an African theme with tyres, hay, cozy cushions and maasai lessos to give it a barn-like look. Former Tusker Project Fame contestant Amileena was first on stage, setting the perfect tempo to the event which started a little late. Her high-energy performance proved that indeed her time at the Tusker Academy was not in vain. She led the crowd in a cool dance session, comprising hot Salsa moves. Second was Atemi, who took things a notch higher with her strong stage presence, vocals and confident poise. Her hi-low dress was flowing rhythmically to the beat too. She drove the crowd into a frenzy and left them chanting when she sang Harry Kimani’s Waithera. After an electrifying performance from Atemi, the stage was now hot enough to accommodate the star of the show. All the way from South Africa, the Queen of Soul, Simphiwe Dana dazzled the crowd with her classy outfit and powerful voice. She immediately attracted the crowd who milled around the stage like bees on a

honeycomb. She proved that music knows no language barrier as she left the crowd singing in Xhosa! She let her soul bleed and left the crowd wondering how such a petite body could house such powerful vocals. She could not leave the stage without performing her famous song Ndiredi which the crowd begged and chanted for her to sing before leaving. The crowd went wild after our very own Juliani jumped on stage and collaborated with Simphiwe in a reggae session. The crowd was also treated to a show when business mogul, Chris Kirubi took to stage and danced to Simphiwe’s song. This would be the moment to say yes to your destiny, Capricorn. You’re a little frustrated because things haven’t been moving forward the way you’d like. But now that opportunities are coming your way, you find you’re holding things up. You’re just afraid, that’s all.

aquarius Jan 20 - Feb

Don’t expect to meet the partner of your dreams today, Aquarius. Rather, your romantic hopes are likely to meet with frustration. It would be better to devote your energies to something more realistic, such as your financial situation. It probably does need some attention, wouldn’t you agree?

pisces Feb 19 - Mar 20

There’s some likelihood that a recent meeting with an influential person has put a damper on your hopes for your projects. Will you abandon them and live with regret? Or will you choose to maintain your goals despite advice to the contrary and the risk of encountering disapproval from your supervisors?

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 19

You will have to expect a few disturbances in the harmony that has reigned over the past few days, Aries. For example, your needs may not match those of your mate or close friends, or you may feel restless. Minor worries about the future may intrude on people’s good moods.

taurus Apr 20 - May 20

As a person who embodies affection and tenderness, Taurus, you may feel especially resentful about today’s mood. It will be difficult to charm a smile out of anyone or achieve any semblance of harmony. Moreover, the friction won’t spare siblings - even close friends may quarrel.

gemini May 21 - Jun 21

A longing for comfort and the small, simple pleasures in life is likely to cripple your initiative today, Gemini. Have you decided to withdraw from the career whirl for the time being? Or perhaps you’re just discouraged by the lack of enthusiasm in your colleagues.

cancer Jun 22 - Jul 22

For the past several days, Cancer, you’ve been fairly lucky in financial and material terms. But the day ahead will be an exception. If you’re planning to make an investment, sign a contract, or purchase a major item, postpone it until another day.

leo Jul 23 - Aug 22

The way you act when you first meet people is typical of Leo. What is it that you do? You try to teach them something. It seems that you always have a lesson to impart, making you prone to giving advice when it isn’t always wanted. Make an effort to accept the points of view of others for a change.

virgo Aug 23 -Sep 22

Your philosophy of life comes naturally, Virgo. Others need to study, listen to experts, or sign on to various allegiances. You, on the other hand, already have a profound outlook on life that you surely inherited from your past experiences. It would be interesting for you to expand on your philosophy a bit and try to turn it into something concrete.

libra Sep 23 - Oct 22

It isn’t because your new projects demand such precision that they’re causing you problems, Libra. You tend to think details keep you from having a global vision, but that simply isn’t true. There’s no conflict between the longterm view and short-term needs.

scorpio Oct 23 - Nov 21

Yes, Scorpio, this is a good moment to abandon old beliefs and moral values. Your view of life has changed and, above all, you’re more aware of how your outdated, preconceived ideas sometimes poison your life. The past no longer concerns you.

sagittarius Nov 22 - Dec 21

If you aren’t careful to keep your eyes straight ahead and focused on the future, the past is likely to catch up to you, Sagittarius. Don’t look back, even if you don’t see anything in front of you. You must continue to move forward. It’s true that this is easier said than done. Nevertheless, you feel inspired to give it a try.

Police reforms must start at recruitment

The repeat of the police recruitment exercise must not be a second avenue for filling stomachs of greedy officers. The process must be fair and transparent for the force to be reformed (Police body to repeat

enrolment of recruits, October 31, 2014). The force has always been cited as the most corrupt institution starting from enrollment to field work. Recruitment involves bribery

where applicants have to ‘buy’ their selection to training. Officers will always work to return what they paid at the entry level. The appetite grows as seniors demand for promotion. As merit gives way to fat pockets,

this kills morale of those seeking to serve the nation. It also allows the rich to rise quickly in ranks. Police reforms have taken a back seat to remain only a dream only on paper. Lazy officers have been allowed to

join the force and rise to command others with little or no qualification. Inefficiency leads to disjointed operations and loss of officers as witnessed during attacks in Baringo, Turkana and Mombasa.

Kenya sweeps podium in Athens marathon

Kenya’s Felix Kandie won the Athens Marathon yesterday, setting a new course record of 2 hours, 10 minutes, 37 seconds and smashing the old mark by 18 seconds. Kandie broke away from compatriot Raymond Kimutai Bett after 35 kilometres (22 miles) to win by nearly two minutes. Bett finished in 2:12:34. Josphat Kiptanui Chobei came in third in 2:15:38, 13 seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Julius Kiplagat Korir. The previous course record of 2:10:55 was set at the 2004 Athens Olympics by Italy’s

Stefano Baldini who overturned British runner Bill Adcocks’ longstanding mark of 2:11:07 in 1969. The Kenyans also captured the top three spots in the women’s race. Naomi Jepkogei Maiyo won in 2:41:06, 23 seconds ahead of Nancy Joan Rotich. Nearly 10,000 runners, a record, took part in the Marathon. The race retraces the route an Athenian messenger took in 490 BC to bring his fellow citizens news of the victory in the Battle of Marathon against the invading Persians.

K’Ogalo to extend coach Nuttall contract Rosberg beats After guiding his side to lift a record 14th league title, champions Gor Mahia are already in permanent contract negotiations with coach Frank Nuttall, after the Scott prevailed in his rather temporary near three month contract. Club chairman Ambrose Rachier has confirmed that Nuttall will indeed be offered a new deal in the coming weeks having passed his test of delivering glory. “It’s true we’ve had discussions on the table and have talked to the coach assuring him that we want him to stay. For a club to move forward we need stability in the technical bench,” he said. On his part Nuttal said he was happy with his nine-game performance, saying the future of the club is bright. “I’m very delighted for all the players. The quality and mentality of the players was excellent and made my three months awesome. The form of the nine games has been good having won five drew three and lost one so I’m very pleased with everybody. “It’s great for the club to play in the continental championship once again and I’m sure they have learned from the previous experience,” Nuttall offered. It was an epic season finale, which saw Gor Mahia crowned record 14time Kenyan Premier League (KPL)

champions on a pulsating final day of the 2014 on Saturday. The defending champions touched the tape unchallenged after humiliating Kenya Revenue Authority at Moi Stadium as closest challengers, Sofapaka’s spirited sprint chase fell short after being held to a 2-2 draw by Tusker in Nairobi’s Ruaraka Grounds with the pair heading to the last day only a point apart.

Victory sent faithful K’Ogalo fans and indeed the entire Kisumu city into jubilation to celebrate being crowned champions once again. Eric Ochieng and talisman Ugandan top scorer Dan Sserunkuma put the champions 2-0 up before the party was officially set-off by an own goal from Richard Mmboyi ten minutes from time.

IT’S A WRAP: Gor Mahia midfielder Erick Ochieng’ celebrates scoring opening goal against KRA. Gor will offer Frank Nuttal a new deal after he delivered glory.

Hamilton in Brazil Nico Rosberg held off Mercedes team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton to win a race-long battle at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hamilton fought back to close a seven-second margin after a spin at about one-third distance just as he appeared to be set to take the lead, but Rosberg did just enough to hold him off in a tense final part of the race. It reduces Hamilton’s lead in the title race to 17 points, with 50 available in the final race in Abu Dhabi. “I’m very happy with the whole weekend,” said Rosberg. “I’ve been feeling comfortable in the car and controlled the gap to Lewis in the race.” Hamilton can win the title by finishing second to Rosberg in Abu Dhabi on

23rd November. Rosberg had made his second pit stop on lap 26, with Hamilton less than two seconds behind him. The Mercedes engineers calculated that his first lap had not been enough to leapfrog him ahead and decided to keep him out for one more lap to give him extra time to build the advantage he needed. He dropped a wheel on to the white line on the entry to Turn Four, the Descido do Lago and ran wide into the run-off area, halfspinning. Hamilton said: “Ultimately it cost me the win. I was a much quicker up to that point. I went a second quicker, thought I was going to pit on that lap, used all my tyres and on the next lap there was nothing left.”

out of luck: City Stars players celebrate victory over Leopards in a previous KPL tie. Stars have been relegated from KPL.

City Stars ‘nine lives’ finally come to an end

Nairobi City Stars survival at the Kenyan Premier League has over the years grown into a perfect example of the proverbial-cat-with-nine lives. Sadly though, the ninth finally came to an abrupt end after they were held to a barren stalemate by Mathare United on Saturday. The club’s nine year KPL stay ended after they were relegated to the second tier league on the final day of the league and will join newcomers Nakuru All Stars who crashed earlier. The Kawangware-based side were held to a goalless draw by visiting Mathare

at their Nairobi’s World Hope Centre. KCB, who were virtually guaranteed of safety, won to confirm their top flight status on final day. The bankers finished on a high by beating relegated All Stars 3-2 to finish 14th on 29. Stars chairman Peter Jabuya says though his desire is to ensure the club returns to KPL, it won’t be easy due the club’s financial crisis. “If we get a number of players to stick with us, maybe we stand a chance, but know we got to think about how to sort our financials issues first,” he said.

Kiplagat, Rudisha, Kimetto pick top male athlete awards Kenya’s David Rudisha was on Friday awarded the “Best Male Athlete of London 2012” at the inaugural Anoc Gala Awards Dinner on Friday in Thailand. Rudisha was awarded for winning a gold medal and setting a new world record time of 1:40.91. The record marks the first time an athlete has ever run 800m under 1:41 in one of the greatest 800m races of all time. Rudisha’s record breaking pace forced rivals to register season’s bests. Rudisha said: “I feel incredibly privileged to receive the first ever Anoc Award for Best Male Athlete at a Summer Games. We rely so much on the support of our National Olympic Committees and they are so often the unsung heroes of the Olympic world so thank you for recognising and rewarding all of their hard work as well.” Kenyan marathoners Dennis

Kimetto and Florence Kiplagat were named the 2014 AIMS Best Marathon Runners (BMR) of the Year at the annual gala in Athens on Friday. The award was introduced by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) in 2013. The athletes were honoured at the Greek capital where the Athens Marathon will be staged on the original course on Sunday. “It is symbolic and fitting that these two runners are honoured here in Athens, where the story of the Olympic Games and the marathon began,” said Kostas Panagopoulos, President of Greek Athletics Federation Segas. Dennis Kimetto, 30, broke the marathon world record in recent Berlin Marathon in 2:02:57. The scoring period for the BMR award ran between October 2013 and September 2014.

Mwamba and Western Bulls won in the doubleheader hosted at Railways Club. Denis Ombachi scored a brace to lead Mwamba against a hard-fighting Resolution Impala Saracens.

Francis Akatu scored the first unconverted try as Shaban Ahmed kicked over two penalties as Kulabu led 11-0 in the early stages. Quinto Ongo intercepted a pass by Edwin Machanje

to score Impala’s opening try converted by Sammy Oliech. The hosts replied through Dan Sikuta who flew past the Impala backline as they led 16-7 at half hour mark.

La Liga champions Atletico Madrid remain four points behind leaders Real Madrid as they lost to manager-less Real Sociedad after being reduced to 10 men. It was just Sociedad’s second league win of the season, having beaten the table toppers earlier in the campaign. Atletico top scorer Mario Mandzukic scored a close-range opener before Carlos Vela curled in a leveller. Visiting defender Guilherme Siqueira was booked twice in three minutes as Imanol Agirretxe headed the winner. Diego Simeone’s men showed defensive frailties as they fell to a second league fall of the season to stay in fourth in the table. The defeat could have been heavier as the hosts had two good penalty appeals turned down, one after a challenge on Vela by Diego Godin and the other for handball against Cristian Ansaldi. Real Sociedad went into the match in the relegation zone, despite coming from 2-0 behind to beat Real 4-2 in August.

Wenger guilty as Arsenal implode After Arsenal’s collapse at Swansea last night, the scrutiny on Arsene Wenger’s tactics will surely intensify once again. Arsenal began the year with such high hopes. The mood was buoyant after their FA Cup win last season and their budget bolstered by a lucrative new sponsorship deal with Puma. The club appeared on be on the cusp of a bright new era. However, that optimism has now been all but extinguished. A title challenge looks impossible: The Gunners have won just four of their 11 Premier League games. Instead, they’re facing the prospect of another gruelling battle to retain their place in the top four. After the match, Arsenal Wenger admitted to Arsenal.com that Jose Mourinho’s side is disappearing out of sight. A popular banter goes, “I can’t trust Arsenal with a 15 goal lead even with 5 minutes remaining.” Five days after his team surrendered a 3-0 lead in Europe against Anderlecht, Arsene Wenger saw another lead washed away. Swansea came from behind with two late goals to claim a memorable win over Arsenal at the Liberty Stadium. Arsenal took the lead when Alexis Sanchez finished from close range after an excellent run and pass from Danny Welbeck. But a stunning Gylfi Sigurdsson freekick and a fine header from substitute

Bafetimbi Gomis sealed Swansea’s victory. The win sees Garry Monk’s men leapfrog the Gunners into fifth place in the Premier League table. The defeat caps a miserable week after their Champions League collapse against Anderlecht on Tuesday, in which they threw away a three-goal lead to draw 3-3. There were some nervy moments from the Gunners’ defenders, with Calum Chambers surviving a Swansea penalty appeal after appearing to shove Wilfried Bony to the ground inside the area. Clear scoring opportunities were at a premium in the first half. Arsenal did not manage a shot on target until a minute before half time, as Welbeck combined well with Sanchez before his effort was palmed away by former Gunner Lukasz Fabianski. Arsenal’s flashes of danger before the break were a sign of things to come, as they made the stronger start to the second half. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wasted an excellent opportunity when his shot was saved by Fabianski, but the Gunners were ruthless with their next effort. The visitors latched on to a poor pass from Bony and launched a counterattack, from which Welbeck sped into the box, turned past Ashley Williams and squared the ball for Sanchez, who fired in from six yards. RISING TO THE OCCASION: Swansea City’s Bafetimbi Gomis (second left) rises above the Arsenal defense to head Swansea into the lead just two minutes after coming on.
