Nairobi: City of two extreme lifestyles Nairobi is officially a city of two extremes. Data released on Monday by the National Social Survey Atlas shows the capital city is home to some of the country’s wealthiest and poorest families. The data was released by Planning and Devolution
Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru at her Harambee House office, in Nairobi. Officially, the city’s poverty gap is classified as the lowest among the 47 counties at 4.1 per cent. Yet more than 600, 000 households in the capital are living below the poverty line.

Nairobi: City of extreme lifestyles
From Page 1 The astonishing figures stand out even with the availability of easy access to clean water, electricity, social services and modern technological tools. Most people living in the city’s informal settlements (otherwise known as slums) have been found to be poor. “Sub locations with the highest contribution are home to about 30, 000 poor (people),” the report says of Nairobi. Low income areas, mostly comprising informal settlements, have been identified to be
contributing between 80 and 90 per cent of the capital’s overall poverty index. Middle and low income estates, mainly located in the eastern part of the city, have more than 0.045 pc contribution to the national poverty index. Interestingly, they are closer to highlife estates of Muthaiga, Parklands or Lavington. Apart from availability of jobs, education has been identified as another contributor to the yawning lifestyles gap. Gross attendance is poorest in Kibera slums, with half of primary school-age children out of class.
The report attributes the trend to social economic differences and suggests efforts that may encourage children in slum areas to join school. Between 65 and 50 pc of residents in leafy suburbs are employed as 20 to 35 pc of those in low income areas are employed but mainly in the informal sector. Access to the internet is a privilege to inhabitants of low income areas, 10 to 15 pc of whom have access to internet daily, weekly, or monthly. In contrast, more than 30 pc of residents in high income estates accessed the internet more
frequently within the period. Means of movement in low income areas is poor, with less than 2.5 pc of movement by motorbike, tuktuks, lorries, buses, or trucks. The Atlas recommends investment in basic facilities, expansion of market access and promotion of stable economic activities for the low income areas. It also calls for investment incentives as a way of bridging the gap between the rich and poor. To leverage the more than half a million poor city residents, huge amounts of resources are required, the report says
“Considering that there are more than 650, 000 poor people living in Nairobi, and taking into account of inflation since 2006 (93 pc), this means Sh1.85billion annually would be needed to lift Nairobi’s poor out of poverty,” the report says. Waiguru said the information in the document will be used to define policy and guide Government project at the national, and county levels. “National planning require comprehensive statistical information to ensure decisions ate based on sound analysis,” she said.
Girlfriend snubs lover with Sh7m iPhone proposal gift A Chinese man was shocked in front of friends and colleagues after spending more than Sh7.34million to buy an iPhone 6s as proposal gift, before the girlfriend turned him down. The young tech programmer at Guagzhou, whose name was withheld, bought 99 iPhones and arranged them into a heart shape. The Telegraph reports that he also invited friends and workmates to surround the smartphone heart and witness him going on one knee with a bouquet of flowers. The girlfriend rejected the technician, who is reported to have spent two years annual salary to purchase the coveted gadgets. Photos of the failed proposal circulated in the Weibo social network. The proposal came early Tuesday, which is a Singles Day in China, which allows bachelors and spinsters to celebrate solitude by buying items online worth billions of dollars.

Transport regulator figures show drop in road accidents Road accidents have reduced by 19 per cent in the past year, data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) shows. The report of all accidents recorded between November 2013 and October 2014 also shows that deaths due to road crashes have dropped by 11.7 pc. The figure means at least 300 lives
that would have otherwise been lost through road carnage have been saved. The reduction is attributed to a raft of measures introduced at the start of the year, including speed cameras on major highways, NTSA chairman Lee Kinyanjui said. “We have erected bumps to ensure even if you want to free-wheel,
you will have to stop every half a kilometer…that way, we have curbed accidents,” he said on Tuesday at the launching ceremony of the Road Safety Week in Nairobi. Kinyanjui called on roads users to strictly follow safety rules to minimise accidents. “If you drive at the right speed
with your safety belt on, even in instances that an accident occurs, your chances of survival are much higher. We want to put it back to the people. Do not ask what police are doing, don’t ask what NTSA is doing, everybody has a role, whether are a road user, driver or pedestrian,” he said. The authority is also reviewing
curricula for driving schools as a way of curbing accidents. “We have deployed inspectors in all schools to ensure trainees undertaking driving courses meet the required qualification, skills and at least 22 hours of practice in driving,” he said.

NCCK backs proposal on church regulations
Kenyans are not prepared for retirement, survey shows As many one out of every two Kenyans is not sure whether or not they will be comfortable after they retire, experts from the Pew Research Centre have revealed. In a survey that spanned across continents, it was revealed that a number of Kenyans could find themselves drowning in debt or working well into their mid-70s because they had not planned for their financial future. From the survey, the well-to-do Kenyans are joined by Americans, who are somewhat positive that they will have an adequate standard of living in their old age. About 63 per cent of those surveyed said they were “very confident” or “somewhat confident” about their retirement
security. Along with close to 50 per cent of smart and financially savvy Kenyans, they ranked near the top with other countries like China, Brazil, Nigeria, South Africa and Pakistan. However, just like the unsure Kenyans 26 per cent of Americans said aging in their country is a “major problem”. Concern about what their life would be like after retirement was highest in Asia, with 87 per cent of people in Japan, 79 per cent in South Korea and 67 per cent in China worrying about their future comfort. In Europe, more than 50 per cent of those surveyed, especially in Germany and Spain, saw the older population as a major problem in their countries.

CITY IN THE SUN: Nairobi skyline. Nairobi residents enjoy the best quality of life Kenya can offer according to a new data that shows the country’s wealth status.
Nairobi residents enjoy the best quality of life Kenya can offer according to a new data that shows the country’s wealth status. The Socio-Economic Atlas of Kenya unveiled yesterday by Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru reveals that city residents enjoy the best facilities and other top conveniences of life. Many residents enjoy clean water, have access to electricity, better sanitation alongside other modern luxuries like cars and TV sets which were used in the wealth survey. These social status symbols put Nairobi residents far ahead of their counterparts in other regions of the country. The data also revealed that residents of the capital have the highest potential for growth as they have the best education and infrastructure among other resources. 72.4 percent of city residents have
access to electricity while another 61.6 percent have access to television sets, the study that was commissioned in 2011 states. A total of 7, 000 sub locations were covered in the survey that mainly focused on the welfare of the people. Access to modern technology and social services means Nairobi will likely remain the richest of the 47 counties despite the effects of devolution, the report said. Although the city is home to some of the country’s poorest people, poverty gap here remain slightly narrow compared to other regions. Nairobi has a poverty gap of just 4.1 percent compared to the national average of 12.2 percent. Poverty gap is a representation of the short fall poor people must make in order to reach the poverty line. In Nairobi, that line was set at Sh2, 913 averagely month expenditure.
The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has thrown its weight behind the proposal by Attorney General Githu Muigai to regulate religious institutions following reports that they were being used to swindle innocent members of the public. NCCK Secretary General Reverend Canon Peter Karanja however says their input must be sought in the formulation of the framework to tame rogue religious leaders. “There is a suggestion that maybe a legal mechanism could be put in place that could check excesses by such religious leaders; NCCK doesn’t have a fundamental problem with that… we just say that religious leaders make their input in that process so that what is agreed is applicable widely,” Canon Karanja said. He urged the government to take action against those found guilty of engaging in malpractices and compared the church to a public institution which is funded by public money and thus regulated by law which if contravened attracts a penalty. “Religious leaders like all other Kenyans who manage and run institutions are under the law, and where a religious leader is seen to operate outside the law they should be held to account like every other Kenyan. It is not just the church, but all religious institutions, including the mosques where radicalisation happens.”

Police launch probe on USIU students’ murder Police have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of two university students who were killed by unknown gunmen over the weekend. The two who were also cousins were shot dead at close range in Ruai after being carjacked in Kileleshwa. A third cousin was injured and remains in hospital in critical condition. According to police, the three who are said to be students at United States International University (USIU) were carjacked as they drove from Kileleshwa to visit their aunt in Mwiki. They were accosted by six men who forcefully seized them at gunpoint before driving them towards Nairobi River in Ruai where they were shot at close range in the head, stomach and ribs respectively. The first two whom police identified as Amos Mutunga and Harrison Muriithi aged 22 and 19 respectively, died instantly. The killers then set ablaze their Suzuki car. Officers attached to the Water Treatment Administration Police Post who were on patrol responded to sounds of gunshots
and rescued the third victim from the basement of the Mwalimu Water Falls while wailing and screaming in pain after his assailants had left him for dead. Nelson Kimaita aged 22, is currently recuperating at the Kenyatta National Hospital in a stable but critical condition. In their investigations, Police are seeking to establish the motive of the attack. They also want to know the circumstances under which three were shot and their vehicle, a dark blue Suzuki was set ablaze by the hit men who escaped without stealing anything from the victims in what appears to be a clear murder plot. “Two vehicles were spotted speeding off from the scene but their registration was not taken. Officers managed to put off the fire and towed the wreckage to Ruai Police Station pending investigations,” a police officer involved in the investigations said. No arrest has since been made. Ruai remains of one of the crime hot spots in the city with deadly criminals said to living in the area. Bodies of the deceased were taken to City Mortuary for autopsy analysis.

At least eight women have died and more than 20 were hospitalized after undergoing sterilization surgery at a government-run mobile health clinic in India. More than 80 women had come to a “camp” for sterilization surgery in Bilaspur district in the Indian state of Chhattisgargh, said R.K. Vange, chief medical health officer for the area. The women were each paid 1,400 rupees (about Sh2, 000) to undergo the procedure The sterilizations took place on Saturday, Vange said. By Monday, many of the women had developed complications. District officials have ordered an investigation and the results of postmortems are expected by Wednesday, Vange added. India is the
world’s second most populous country with 1,220,800,359 people representing 17.2 percent of the global population. The government is said to have come up with the sterilization campaign in a bid aimed at taming the ballooning population. Human Rights Watch has condemned sterilization drives by Indian health officials to curb population growth. Women are often paid or coerced to undergo surgery in unsanitary conditions. The group has urged India to focus more efforts on contraception and male vasectomies, which are far less dangerous procedures. It is believed that at least 83 women had undergone sterilization surgery in five hours at the mobile clinic.

Robots, computers to take over jobs in UK
TUESday, november 11, 2014
A new research by Deloitte, the Big Four accountancy firm, and the University of Oxford has shown that 10 million British jobs could be taken over by computers and robots in 20 years. The advancement in technology has created a risk for the unskilled people like car washers whose jobs have been automated. The research focuses on London but contains details from across UK. It says low paying jobs are eight times more likely to be wiped out than better paid ones. I London, there are fewer manufacturing jobs because the sector has been more automated than any other sector which is likely to face a greater automation. Jobs like computing and engineering are said to be the safest as people are needed to develop and service technologies taking over from humans. Other safe jobs are those that need creative thought or interpersonal skills like media, law, education, healthcare and financial services.

Geothermal power plants to drive down the cost of electricity The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has signed a steam supply agreement that will see the cost of power fall in coming months. The deal is part of an agreement with three independent power producers, which will see generation of electricity carried out at power plants to be located in Menengai in northwest Kenya. GDC CEO Silas Simiyu said: “We are going to witness reduced cost of energy and
high uptake of electricity in the country.” Quantam Power East Africa, Orpower Twenty Two and Sosian Energy are among the three companies partnered with the GDC. Each of them will construct a 35 Megawatt geothermal power plant. This is expected to increase Kenya’s installed capacity for power generation from renewable sources by up to 10 per cent. The country currently has 1,000 Megawatts of power, which is barely enough
to support the growing demand from consumers, a rapidly expanding economy as well as an ongoing rural electrification project. The Menengai project hopes to ease the burden for power producers while lowering prices for consumers. “This is a major milestone in the history of geothermal energy in Kenya and globally. We have firmed up a new, unique model that will see Kenyans enjoying affordable power from their geothermal resources,” Simiyu noted.

t’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog, said famous author Mark Twain. Well, he could never be so right in his statement which holds true with reference to pay TV in Kenya. New entrants into the industry are coming up with new strategies and offers to woo the masses. What was hot in the past few years may not necessarily be the in thing currently. Giants like DSTV are getting a run for their money as they have to contend with competition from other media including Startimes, GOtv and Zuku. Last week StarTimes, which is currently the cheapest to set up and subscribe, added more artillery to its pocket. In a bid to diversify and boost local content, StarTimes launched seven other channels among them Bollywood Swahili, which will air award winning movies, drama and series to Kenyan subscribers.

Its initial starter kit goes for Sh3,399 and includes a decoder and one month GOtv plus subscription— But afterwards attracts monthly subscriptions of either GotV Plus at Sh849 or GOtv normal at Sh599. The channels range, however, is not as attractive as other pay media companies. Its premium package boasts a mere 32 channels, which is nothing compared to what its competitors are offering. Even though it is one of the oldest, DStv has proven that it is here to stay. Its wide range of packages to meet different budgets and excellent customer service is probably what has made customers loyal. Customers can choose from premium packages, DStv Indian, Portuguese, Family, Compact, Easyview

As internet has intricately wound its way in our lives, Zuku promises clients 24/7

‘I have always been extremely passionate about matatu culture’
Telling stories to tame the youth today, the youth have all the freedom they need from their parents, but they are riddled with diseases, drug abuse, alcohol, among other challenges because of the rush decisions they make. Not many years ago the Kalenjin social order remained intact and youth were taught to respect parents and other elders, a fact that left them with minimal trouble. Vices were tamed early by parallel figurative stories featuring animals as with the Bar Che Osen (Kill the aged), story in the Oral Literature of the Kalenjin. Once upon a time in the jungle, Mr Warthog convened a meeting of youths in the animal kingdom. He told them to rise against their dictatorial parents and enough freedom to do as they wished. they wanted freedom of movement, befriending whoever they wanted, singing and dancing at whatever time and wherever they wished. Physically fighting the authority or running away to far lands was not to be a successful solution. Mr. Bird suggested they poison their elders at night. ‘Naughty’ Hare did not. they woke up, walked and wandered in freedom. they grazed beyond the animal kingdom boundaries. Man was annoyed and he started hunting them down. Hunger and thirst struck. their numbers decreased greatly. they called a crisis meeting. they could not arrive at viable solutions given they were still young. Hare suggested he had a solution. they begged him to give it at once. He left and returned with his father, who he had dug and hid in a hole. Old Hare condemned the youths’ actions; they apologized. He led them to greener pastures, away from the drought stricken and human attack kingdom. they thanked him and started living a fresh. What would a young person learn from this? Old is gold. respect your elders, choices have consequences!

art on wheels: the return of
matatu grafitti
Kenya has a cool president. And if you thought he is just about selfies, think again. UK has just taken us back some twenty years in matatu worldno, not in an entirely bad way, the graffiti is back and it is legal. The days of old are back. The days when one would wait for almost an hour just to get onto the ‘illest’ matatu. The industry was so serious that some matatus had DJ booths. The blaring music attracted the youth from miles away. At night they were a spectacle to behold. The flashing lights, cool neon interior lights, glow in the dark posters, huge flat screens inside… just beautiful. Some also had screens fitted on the back windscreen for the pleasure of people queing at bus stops. The Matatu heritage almost came tumbling down when the late Michuki banned graffiti on matatus. Abid
Zeinul, CEO od Dirty Customz, is one designer who felt the effects of the ban. His world almost came crushing down but he did not give up. He just moved his graffiti and design skills into in designing advertisements. His passion for music also led him to deejaying because music and graffiti were still deeply ingrained in him. He did not see how the two passions would just die prematurely. “I have always been extremely passionate about matatu culture. I began doing graffiti straight after high school. I remember drawing designs on a scrapbook and one day my cousin advised me to put my skills into the business and I have never looked back,” said Zeinul. How to introduce your children to your new love interest Introducing your child to a new partner is a big move. Before letting another man or woman close to your kid, assess the seriousness of your relationship. Exposing them to every Tom, Dick and Harry or Anna you bump into will only confuse them. They may get attached to someone who will not stick around for long and this loss would affect them.
lScrutinize your new partner to be sure your kids are safe and at ease around him/her in case you are forced by circumstance to leave them in his care for a while. However, minimize the length in which they interact until you are certain of the stability of your relationship. lKeep in mind your child’s age before they meet your new date. In terms of affection, infants are unlikely to react to the presence of a new partner but older children may develop a liking or vice versa. lMention your partner occasionally when conversing with your children and they will grasp the hint that mum or dad has a new friend. They will paint a picture of who your partner is as per your words. lWhen setting up a meeting between your child and partner, let it be in an environment where the child is at ease and relaxed. It could be your child’s favourite hangout spot. The introduction would shockingly turn out well because it is associated

with fun. lTell your partner things your child loves and maybe when they meet and hit it off well both of them can do or have something your child loves. It’s a deal maker. lBearing the child’s age in mind, keep everything simple and introduce your date as a friend. Older children may tell you are an item but don’t let it out on their first encounter. lReserve as much as you can unless they ask. Minimize the amount information you disclose. lYou and your partner should narrow physical contact, such as kissing, touching or cuddling in the presence of the child. A new partner may make a child feel insecure because they think mommy or daddy’s attention is being taken away. Be mindful of the child’s fears. lAssure your child that having a new partner does not mean you will dedicate all your time to him /her. And or she is not there to replace their mum/dad. Remind your child they are your priority and no one can take their place. Show them that you mean your word and might be a bonus for your new partner because they may accept him/her gradually. lWelcoming a new partner takes time with kids so they should not be pushed into it. They may think they are betraying the other parent by warming up to your new partner. Others view such a transition as competition and a threat to their parents love for them. It might take a while but they will eventually loosen up. lAs they interact whenever you meet, gradually increase the time your kids spend with your new partner. If possible, at some point let them have a one-on-one moment with each other even if you have to watch them from a distance.
Controversial gospel singer Will Paul is courting trouble. Photos recently surfaced of Willy Paul’s girlfriend smoking a joint. This caused an uproar on social media with Kenyans condemning Willy Paul for dating such a girl. But Willy Paul came out to defend his girl saying: “I have made a stand with my girlfriend through thick and thin.... she had a very bad past but now her life is all new.. thanks be to God... I love her so much and will do everything possible to make her happy especially now she’s all new... everybody has a past so I don’t think it’s wise for anyone to judge her. No one is perfect... you can hate but that won’t change the fact that she’s changed. ..only God can judge. Baraka.” The singer later pulled down the post. Has Willy suddenly gone kukus?
It is official, Khloe gives French a second go Khloe and French Montana are officially back together. The reality star, posted a photo of her and French and wished him a happy birthday saying: “Happy birthday baby boy! In only a short amount of time we have created timeless memories. doesn’t need to be explained “@frenchmontana I can’t wait to celebrate life with you tonight! You deserve it!!” If that is not validation enough then what is?” To top it off, the lass together with her famous family, all went to celebrate French’s birthday.
Trouble in paradise?
In past few days, social medias has been alive with news that Nameless and Wahu are set to divorce. However, the singer has come out to deny the allegations and is planning to sue the amorphous sources. “Just to be clear, this whole story about us getting a divorce making rounds on social media is just a made up story by some blogger who wanted to trend...” he said on his Facebook page.

Compensation not adequate for massacred officers Compensation for the fallen police officers who were killed at the Kapedo massacre is not adequate. How long will families be compensated for what can be averted? (Slain officers’ folks to get 10m November 7, 2014). It seems not much was learnt from the Baragoi slaughter where
twice the number of officers lost lives in cold blood. Reports are emerging that officers called for reinforcement which came more than 20 hours later. It has also been reported that the officers had one radio which fell and was destroyed. Majority of the officers had served for about
six months. It is evident that they could not match the experience of the bandits who have handled illegal guns for a larger part of their lives. When going for such high risky exercises, they should be properly equipped with bullet-proof jackets. Political forces that have sharply
defended the bandits on claims that KDF is unleashing terror on residents must also be investigated. Why are they against the operation but turn stone silent when their sons kill other Kenyans? This must be the last killing of
officers. Life cannot be compared with cash. The affected families will mourn for the rest of their lives for the young ‘suns’ which have gone to sleep so early. The Government should revise the security strategy to avoid unnecessary compensations.

Sofapaka shift focus to Gotv Shield After failing to lift the Kenyan Premier League for the second time in five years, Sofapaka has turned their sights on the Gotv Shield finals set for this weekend. The 2-2 draw at Ruaraka Stadium against Tusker and champions Gor Mahia thrashing Kenya Revenue Authority 3-0 in Kisumu ensured Batoto ba Mungu spirited fell short. The three points separating Sofapaka from Gor mark was
an improvement for a side that finished 10 points behind K’ogalo last season. The growth has be attributed to well-oiled attacking play which has seen them score the highest number of goals at 49. This gives coach Sam Timbe something to be proud of. “My boys have done well although we did not win the league. I congratulate Gor for an outstanding performance but all is not over for us as we
have the GOtv shield at hand,” he said after the season finale on Saturday. Sofapaka face Posta Rangers for the finals next weekend. Club’s patron Kalonzo Musyoka awarded the team 40,000 at Ruaraka Grounds for motivation to finish on a high. “The boys are playing well, we fought all the way to the end. Against Rangers we got an opportunity to win silverware this season,” he said.

Federer rolls over Canadian opponent World number two Roger Federer started his bid for a seventh end-of-season title with victory over Canada’s Milos Raonic in London on Sunday. The Swiss won 6-1 7-6 (7-0) to gain a measure of revenge for his fall to Raonic in Paris nine days ago. Federer joins Kei Nishikori
at the top of the Group B table after the Japanese player earlier beat Andy Murray. The second round of matches on Tuesday will see Federer take on Nishikori with Murray up against Canadian Raonic. Federer remains in the hunt for an end-of-year number one ranking and will be keen to wrap up qualification for
semi-finals as quickly as possible. He dismantled the huge Raonic serve in the first set before edging a more competitive second to win in one hour and 28 minutes. “I was happy with how I performed and thanks for the ovation when I entered the building,” Federer said.

Sserunkuma credits teammates 2014 Kenyan Premier League golden Boot winner Danny Sserunkuma who netted 16 goals for the season says all the credit goes to his teammates. The player who was hoisted shoulder high for a lap of honour as Gor Mahia won their record 14th title said he was humbled by the gesture. Last season he missed the top scorer’s award by a whisker which was won by Sofapaka veteran John Baraza by a goal, Sserunkuma who bagged the Player of the Year in 2012 finally added his name to the roll of top scorers. “The Golden Boot is a good thing and anybody would be excited to have it. My primary ambition however was to help my team retain the KPL trophy,” he said. “It feels good getting both. Last year I was not lucky but this year we got both,” He added. Sofapaka’s Enock Agwanda and Ulinzi Stars’ veteran Stephen Waruru finished runner-ups on 11 apiece while in-form midfielder Ekaliana Ndolo came third on nine. “This is not an award I could have managed to get on my own, I dedicate it to my teammates from the goal keepers to the defenders and my fellow forwards who made scoring easier for me. To the royal fans thank you for being with us week in week out. We appreciate your support,” said the Ugandan.

Kenya Cricket team to play Pakistan next month Cricket Kenya will sent a team to Pakistan for five-match series next. The team is set to leave on November 20. The tour by the Kenya Cricket team will be the first time that Pakistan will be hosting a major cricket match since 2009 when a bus carrying Sri Lanka cricketers and part of a larger convoy, was fired upon by 12 gunmen, near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The players were on their way to play on the third day of the second Test against Pakistan. Six members of the Sri Lanka national cricket team were injured, while six local policemen and two civilians were killed. The organizers of the vent have however promised that tight security will be provided for the Kenya team while in Pakistan. During the tour, Kenya will play five One-Day games with Pakistan A in Lahore and Faisalabad as part of their preparation for next year’s ICC World Cricket League Division Two in Namibia. The squad will play two one-day matches in Lahore on November 22, 23 and 25 before travelling to Faisalabad on 26 for the two more matches on November 27 and 28. Steve Tikolo, the Kenya coach said this was a great opportunity for the squad ahead of the Division Two competition early next year. “We’re grateful to Cricket Kenya and Pakistan Cricket Board for making it possible. It’ll give us some much needed match practice for the January event against a high standard of opposition,” the coach added.

Artificial turf on Jericho grounds to boost local talent

Former Harambee Stars Coach Jacob Ghost Mulee says laying of the artificial turf at the Jericho Sports Ground will help grow talent in the larger Eastlands region of Nairobi. The newly renovated stadium is expected to be completed in three months’ time and will be elevated with floodlights and modern dressing rooms. “There is no better way of tapping all our Talents than providing facilities and stadium near them,” reiterated Mulee.
“This is the forgotten hub of Kenyan football, if we can get the talents running, I am certain we can create the best national team for the future,” he continued. Mulee shared his dissatisfaction seeing youth languishing in poverty with others ending up dying or in prisons from crime related activities. Mulee also said that the renovation will help create employment and reduce the crime rate in the area.

Co-op Bank has wrapped up the 2014 Kenya National Volleyball Federation national championships top four club list in men’s competition. The list is led by former champions Kenya Prisons on 38 points, champions General Service Unit and Ulinzi who booked their place with a match in hand. Ulinzi men’s volleyball club was the better side, riding on a recent form which has seen them win four of the eight local
tournaments. They enjoyed a third spot finish in the KVF national regular season which guaranteed the playoffs spot. Co-operative Bank slapped Ulinzi with a convincing 3-0 (27-26, 25-16, 27-25) victory, the win denying Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) a play-off opportunity. KPA won fixtures against rivals Mombasa Prisons but the 3-0 (2517,2-17,25-17) win could do little to help them sail through to the playoff set for November 26-28 at Makande Hall in Mombasa.
Coach elated by Rangers’ fight-back to top tier league
TALL ORDER: Fourth official Jonathan Moss comes between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho during the Barclays Premier League match between at Stamford Bridge. The Arsenal boss has given up any hope of his side catching up with Jose Mourinho’s rivals.
Two years ago, Posta Rangers were relegated from the Kenyan Premier League. Last year, the team made it to the promotion play-offs but fell short. Now they are back. After losing to Kenya Revenue Authority in last year’s play offs, the team embarked on a vigorous journey through the National Super League zone A.
They are now top of the table on their way to promotion to top-flight league, along with Zone B winners Shabana. Rangers coach George Maina says his side deserved promotion going by the exciting football they have displayed last season. “Our hard work has been rewarded and we are ready to return to top flight football and make things right this
time round,” he says. Maina also lauded Football Kenya Federation decision that guarantees table toppers automatic promotion instead of the rigorous play-offs of last season. “I think that is a reasonable by the federation…. we expected nothing less than fair criteria and automatic promotion,” the former Tusker assistant coach said.
Wenger salutes Chelsea momentum Stars escape chop after KPL
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes no team will catch Premier League leaders Chelsea this season. The Gunners lost 2-1 at Swansea on Sunday to slip 12 points behind Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten side. Chelsea have won nine of their 11 games this term and have 29 points, four above second-place Southampton. “If they keep that up nobody will touch them,” Wenger said. “It doesn’t look like anybody is capable of challenging them at the moment.” The Blues fought back from a goal down to rout Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday and Wenger believes they are team full of
confidence. “Look at the season and Chelsea are on course for 105 points. Look at the number of points they have today and if they keep that up nobody will touch them, that’s for sure. “They have had a good start and as long as you don’t lose you don’t question yourself,” the Frenchman said. “Maybe a little bit more extra spirit in the team helps them when it gets tight. “It’s disappointing to throw a game away like we did,” said Wenger. “We were 1-0 up and had to be tight defensively and wait for a second chance. But you have to credit Swansea who didn’t give up.

Moyes named Sociedad manager Ex-United boss lands 18-month deal in La Liga
David Moyes has been named as the coach of Real Sociedad on 18-months deal. Moyes, who was axed by Manchester United in April following a dismal first season in charge at Old Trafford, has been handed a contract until June 2016 with the Spanish outfit. Moyes replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who was dismissed by Sociedad after a poor run of form which currently sees them lie 15th in La Liga. The Scot will take charge for the first time at Deportivo on 22 November. Sociedad announced the appointment late on Monday in a statement on their website. “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with David Moyes,” it read. Details about his official presentation as new coach were to be published afterwards as per the statement. Moyes was sacked with United lying seventh in the Premier League with four games to season finale. He faced Basque side Sociedad as United manager, recording a 1-0 win at Old Trafford and a 0-0 draw in Spain during the Champions’ League group phase. Moyes becomes the fourth British manager of the club. Harry Lowe was in charge for five years from 1930, while John Toshack had three spells in charge, with the last coming to an end in 2002. Toshack’s fellow Welshman Chris Coleman lasted less than seven months following his appointment in July 2007. Although they are 15th in La Liga, Sociedad have already beaten Real Madrid this season and recorded their second win of CHOSEN ONE: Liverpool fans holding a Moyes’ mock banner last season. K’ogallo faithful reward team with cash Fans of Kenyan champions Gor Mahia yesterday rewarded the team’s playing unit and technical bench for their hard work this season with over half a million Kenyan shillings. The green army faithful handed Sh500,000 collected from contributions sent in over the past two weeks through the players’ motivational kitty. The money was handed over to the team captain Jerim Onyango by fans’ representatives Jael Akinyi, Fred Mwalo, Ben Agunda and group treasurer Tony Anelka during a ceremony held in Nairobi. The club’s executive further promised to top up the reward. The event was attended by the club executives led by the Chairman Mr. Ambrose Rachier and the playing unit and technical bench led by Head Coach Frank Nutall.
