Woman gets 5 years in jail for baby theft k’ogalo salute the president

STATE VISIT: kenyan Premier League Champions Gor Mahia teach President Uhuru Kenyatta to sing the club anthem. The President hosted the players, club officials and some fans to a breakfast at State House, Nairobi, today to congratulate them on winning the cup for the second time in a row.

A Nairobi court has today jailed a woman for five years for stealing a friend’s four- month-old baby. Ms Irene Adhiambo pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing the child before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Enock Cherono. The court was told that on October 26 at Kiamaiko area of Huruma estate, Nairobi, Adhiambo stole Baby Sharil from her mother whom she had befriended barely a week earlier. She was charged with depriving the parent the lawful care of the child by fraudulently taking her away and detaining her. P2

City baby thief jailed for 5 years From Page 1 She was jailed without the option of a fine and has 14 days to appeal the ruling and sentence. Adhiambo had begged for forgiveness, saying she was a mother of two children who need her care. But Cherono said the offence was serious and deserved a deterrent sentence.

The court was told how Ms Lucy Apiyo, the child’s mother, first met Adhimbo on her way to visit a relative. Adhiambo offered to help her with the child as she tended to another aged five years who was crying at the time. She returned two days later on a visit during which she sneaked out with the child after the child’s

mother left her in a rented house to buy sukuma wiki for supper. The child was later traced to Adhiambo’s house in Kawangware, the prosecution said. Adhiambo’s jail sentence is likely to breathe some fear into child traffickers who have formed syndicates to steal children. Only in July, police unearthed

a child-trafficking syndicate in Kayole and arrested five women thought to have been part of the ring. It later emerged that the syndicate was using a clinic owner to lie to unsuspecting mothers that seek deliveries in her hospital. Prosecutor Noah Chemweno later told a court in Nairobi that Ms

Sera Ambiyo Matukho, who owned the Kayole clinic, had lied to a woman that her newborn baby had died during delivery. The lie was part of a devious scheme designed “for the purpose of exploitation” and onward trafficking of the child. The syndicate was unearthed by Flying Squad officers who posed as clients.

World tallest and shortest men meet in London London was mesmerised when the shortest and tallest men shook hands for the first time on Thursday. Sultan Kosen, who is eight feet and nine inches tall (2.51m), bent down to shake hands with Chandra Bahadur Dangi from Nepal, who measures 21.5in (55cm) tall. Kosen, 31, said it was marvellous to stoop low to reach out for the hand of the 74 year-old Nepalese. Dangi makes mats and head straps in his county

with his less than two-feet height. Kosen admitted to photojournalists it was not easy to bend that low for a photo. The two met at the London’s 10th annual Guinness World Records Day celebration and they told journalists being world record holders had boosted self-esteem to overcome stigma for their condition. Kosen’s hand is the longest in the world at 28.5 centimetres.

Heavy trucks to be banned from CBD starting January The Nairobi county government plans to block vehicles weighing more than eight tons from the Central Business District by mid next year. Governor Evans Kidero says the move will ease traffic congestion as vehicles entering CBD will be reduced. “Vehicles above eight tones will be required to be licensed by the county government. We understand they deliver goods in CBD but we are

working on a special licence for them,” he said. The county has installed 22 new traffic lights in the CBD which will start working in two weeks. Kidero, who spoke on Thursday at a Nairobi hotel, said his government will construct nine transport corridors with dedicated bus lanes. “Nairobi requires reliable mass transport system. We want to

encourage more Nairobians to walk (and) that is why we are doing NMTs (non-motorised transport),” he said. He said the city buses plan is on course. “We have been stalled by the court case but it is over and we will deliver on the buses.” He said construction of Outer Ring Road is due to start next month while the expansion of Ngong Road will begin in January.

“Fifty years ago, Nairobi had 1,200km of roads…we have only added 600km since then yet we require 6,000,” he said. He assured of collection of garbage at Ngara saying City Hall will develop a blueprint on the menace. “We have increased garbage collection by more than 100 per cent, come up with Nairobi Master Plan and a blueprint for our health system. I’m

aware of the garbage problem at the Ngara round-about and our aim is to collect all the garbage,” he said. He said City Hall has secured 39 garbage trucks and plans to increase the number next year. Kidero asked City residents to be responsible.“If you keep your doorstep clean, the whole city will be clean,” he said.

KQ blames Ebola for record loss

Kenya fights South Africa for top spot as Africa’s leading tech hub Kenya is positioning itself to become Africa’s number one Information Communication and Technology (ICT) hub. According to the country’s National ICT Master Plan dubbed ‘Connected Kenya 2017’, Kenya hopes to outpace South Africa in the field of modern digital technology. The Master Plan is a strategy that seeks to create 50,000 new jobs by the year 2017 while shaping Kenya into Africa’s leading ICT hub. South African tech columnist Duncan McLeod said in an earlier statement that “if South Africa does not think

National carrier Kenya Airways has now turned the blame on the ban on flights to Ebola hit zones and the insecurity in the country for the company’s record loss of Sh10 recorded for the half year up to September. Managing director Mbuvi Ngunze said insecurity contributed a lot as travel advisories cut the number of travelers. Kenya Airways announced yesterday that it had recorded a net loss of Sh10 billion, the highest ever in its history.

its position as the continent’s tech leader is not threatened it should think again.” Meanwhile, Kenya’s Master Plan states that the industry will generate $2 billion annually and topple tech leaders, including Nigeria and SA. South Africa and Kenya currently lead the continent in terms of internet freedom. This means that both governments have more or less avoided restrictions on accessing the web. While SA may lead the continent in various aspects of the ICT sector, Kenya leads the world in mobile money.

Kenyan women set to get cheap contraceptives

Kenyan women will soon access contraceptives at reduced or no cost to prevent unwanted pregnancies. This is in a move to compliment the ongoing efforts of curbing maternal mortality in the country. Together with other 69 low income countries around the globe, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) announced yesterday it is will expand access to Pfizer’s injectable contraceptive, Sayana Press. Speaking in New York, Michael Anderson CIFF Chief Executive Officer said many women are dying due to pregnancy complications yet some of the pregnancies were not planned for. “Far too many women die or are harmed because of unwanted pregnancies,” said Anderson. This important partnership expands the choice of affordable contraceptives. We believe this will

further support CIFF’s mission of enabling more women and children to survive and thrive,” he said. Sayana Press injection, which will be retailing at about Sh90, can prevent ovulation for at least 13 weeks. John Young, President of Pfizer Global Established Pharma Business, said the programme will lead to better families in the developing countries. “This is a great example of applying innovation to a Pfizer heritage product to help broaden access to family planning,” said Young. The programme dubbed Family Planning 2020 will boost maternal health besides reducing pregnancy-related deaths by increasing access and options. “When women are able to plan their families, they are more likely to survive pregnancy and child birth, to have healthier new-borns and children. They will also invest more in their families’ health and

The contraceptive, which has been approved in the European Union, will benefit women in countries including Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal,

Uganda, Bangladesh, Latin America, among others. Currently, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is leading the Beyond Zero Campaign in the counties to ensure no mother dies while giving life. According to the UNFPA-Kenya, 20 women die daily while giving birth, translating to about 8000 annually, making the country one of the most dangerous places for expectant mothers.

Climate change campaigners want the topic to be put as one of the agenda to be discussed at this weekend’s G20 summit meeting in the Queensland city of Brisbane, Australia. The two-day summit will be attended by the US, Chinese and Russian leaders among others.

Kimaiyo defends officers over cattle-shooting claims Police boss David Kimaiyo had defended officers involved in the guns mop up operation in Kapedo against claims that they killed livestock belonging to the residents. Pictures of cows killed by bullets were broadcasted yesterday claiming that GSU officers killed the animals. But Kimaiyo now says the shooting might have been done by the bandits themselves in order to shift blame on the officers. According to the police boss, it is also possible that the officers shot at the livestock to neutralize the bandits who hide amongst them to fire at the security personnel. “Would you distinguish the law enforcement fire and the bandits’ fire? And again if the bandits are firing and hiding amidst the animals, definitely there will be injuries both to human beings and the animals,” Mr Kimaiyo said. He said they are already investigating the source of

Akasha sons extradition materialising The extradition two Akasha sons and their accomplices to the US may have just begun after a magistrate gave Kenyan authorities the green lights to initiate the process. Mombasa chief Magistrate Maxwell Gicheru also ordered that the suspects remain in court for 17 days as the state prepares to formally extradite them. In what now paves the way for the deportation of the suspects, the magistrate argued that Kenya has a duty to cooperate with international law and that application by the state to have the suspects extradited were in order. “Kenya has a duty to cooperate with other countries against international crimes,” he said. A US court has already issued warrants of arrests against the four and they are wanted to face charges of drug trafficking. The two brothers Baktash Akasha Abdalla and Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla are Kenyans while the other accomplices Vijaygiri Anandgiri Goswami and Kulam Hussein are from India and Pakistan respectively.

US prepares for yet another Ebola patient as doctor contracts virus in Sierra Leone

A surgeon infected with Ebola will be transported from Sierra Leone to The Nebraska Medical Center for treatment, a U.S. government official familiar with the situation said. The doctor, a Sierra Leone national and legal permanent resident of the United States, is expected to arrive this weekend, most likely Saturday, the official said. The official said it’s not known whether the doctor was working in an Ebola treatment unit or some other type of hospital. The surgeon is married to a U.S.

citizen and has children, the official said. Sierra Leone has seen more than 5,300 cases of Ebola and more than 1,100 deaths in this year’s outbreak of the deadly virus, according to figures from the World Health Organization. The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha is one of four hospitals in the United States that have bio-containment units and years of preparation in handling highly infectious disease such as Ebola. In a statement Thursday night, a spokesman said the

hospital is still awaiting official confirmation about whether it will treat another Ebola patient. First, hospital spokesman Taylor “The members of the crew will determine whether the patient is stable enough for transport. If he is, he would arrive in Omaha sometime Saturday afternoon,” Wilson said in a written statement. “We will update you on the status of this patient as more information becomes available.” Doctors at The Nebraska Medical Center have already treated two American Ebola

patients. Dr. Rick Sacra was treated at the hospital and released in September. Ashoka Mukpo, a freelance cameraman who worked for NBC was also treated there and released last month. Sacra and Mukpo contracted the virus in Liberia and were later flown to the United States for treatment. So far, the limited number of Ebola cases treated in the United States have shown a higher survival rate than cases treated in West Africa. The disease has so far killed 5, 160 people.

KQ blames insecurity, Ebola for Sh10.4b loss National carrier Kenya Airways has linked the Sh10.4 billion loss in the first half of the year on the Ebola Epidemic in West Africa. The outbreak led to flight cancelations and insecurity issues. The airline reported a Sh10.5 billion loss in the last six months against a rise in turnover of five per cent this

year. Speaking while releasing the financial results, Group Managing Director Mbuvi Ngunze said a challenging business environment was triggered by the fire tragedy at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Other causes were the Mpeketoni and Ebola outbreak in West Africa

which negatively affected passenger flow. “This is a continuation of the trend from last year following the fire at the hub airport JKIA and regional insecurity leading to reduced travel into Kenya. The trend continued into the first half of the year leading to travel advisories being issued by various countries,” said Ngunze.

Ngunze said the company has invested in new fuel efficient airplanes, improved customer service and improved facilities to contain the situation. Group Chief Financial Officer Alex Mbugua said the airline expects a VAT cash refund of about Sh2.5 billion from the Government which will help it reduce borrowing.

Russia hoards gold in time for economic war with West Russia has taken advantage of lower gold prices to fill its central bank vaults with the precious metal as it prepares for the possibility of a long, drawn-out economic war with the West, the Telegraph reports. The latest research from the World Gold Council says Russia has snapped up 55 tonnes of gold. This is a lot more than any other nation in three months leading to September, 2014. Gold is the most popular precious metal used as an investment. Investors buy gold as a way of reducing risk since its prices can rise or fall based on financial conditions around the world. History

Following opposition from the West, President Vladimir Putin’s government is said to be hoarding vast quantities of gold and has tripled its stocks to around 1,150 tonnes in the last decade. Meanwhile, central banks around the world bought a total of only 93 tonnes of the precious metal in the third quarter of 2014. Russia’s currency has come under intense pressure since US and European Union sanctions started to hurt the economy. Implications Financial Expert and Al Jazeera correspondent, Richard Lourie says Putin’s move to stockpile gold is an attack on US currency.

On November 5, Russian lawmakers introduced a bill to ban the circulation of US dollars in Russia. Russians with US dollar accounts would have one year to exchange them for Russian rubles or other currencies. Former US Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan says in dire situations, “paper money is accepted by nobody, and gold is always accepted.” The Russians believe the US dollar has been weakened by debt and will soon find itself in a difficult situation. Stockpiling gold helps cushion a country from what experts predict could become an economic crisis.

Only four per cent of Nairobi residents consume it on regular basis. Others may spend a lifetime without sampling a piece of the delicacy, says Francis Karin and colleagues from the Institute who assisted in the research. “Nairobi people need to be inculcated with a taste for processed dairy products such as cheese that use many litres of milk to make a single kilogramme,” the researchers say. The team says cheese has not been adequately marketed and has been priced too high for ordinary consumers to consider buying it. While 95 pc of cheese products are found in supermarkets, the rest are sourced from shops and costly restaurants. This means for average consumers who do their shopping in kiosks, can go for months without setting sight on cheese. “Kenyans do not consume enough milk and dairy products. To reach global recommended levels, consumption of milk and milk products needs to double,” says the team. The research indicates that Nairobi households spend about Sh1,211 a month on dairy products, including milk, yoghurt and cheese. The poorer households spend about Sh596 a month on dairy products, while the wealthiest spend about Sh2,120. “Households spend a large proportion of total expenditure on dairy products, making dairy the highest consumption item in all but the poorest income groups.”

ONE CROP AFTER ANOTHER: A woman checks on some irrigation pipes on her farm.

Crop rotation saves Bungoma farmer from losses and greedy brokers Susan Nyongesa, a farmer from Bungoma County, has made a small fortune through a farming practice known as crop rotation. While stubborn farmers in Matisi Village have opted to grow the same crops, at the same time, during the same seasons, has decided to take a different approach. Susan has been a sugarcane farmer for quite some time. She,

like thousands of other sugarcane farmers in the County, have been counting losses as boardroom wrangles at the sugar companies and the importation of cheaper sugar products took toll on local growers. With no work and a responsibility to feed her family, she decided to apply the little knowledge she had gathered from extension officers from

the Ministry of Agriculture to start rotating her sugar cane with other crops like spinach, coriander, cucumbers, kale and tomatoes. This, combined with a greenhouse that she managed to set up, has not only provided for her family’s needs but also attracted more farmers to embrace her kind of farming. It has been a stepping stone.

Competition one of SME’s biggest challenges While the SMEs sector contributes to over 50 per cent of new jobs created over the past 10 years, they are faced with the threat of failure. Researchers, Samuel Mureithi, Makarius Morara and Michael Bowen from Daystar University in Nairobi have found that three out five small businesses fail within their first few months. With assistance from research group, Smart Outcome Services Ltd, they have discovered that one

of the major causes of failure is ruthless competition. Even within urban areas and developed cities across the country, shops, stalls, hawkers and other similar businesses are located in clusters. This means that many people operating in the same area are offering the exact same services. Electronic shops located in Nairobi’s Luthuli Avenue and pastry shops along Tom Mboya Street are just some examples of intense competition among SMEs.

Amileena Tell us who Amileena is? I am a happy, fun loving person who sings to lift people up. What have you been up to lately? I have been releasing music, playing in concerts, writing for others as well as for myself and enjoying myself. How has life been after TPF? By the way you know it has been four years since the show! TPF gave me a platform, which helped launch me into the industry. But I am all grown up now and creating my own brand. I am, however, always grateful for that opportunity. Who do you look up to in the industry? I respect everybody in the industry steady on their hustle and the fans who continue listening to local content... I mean we’re starting to gain global recognition through Sauti Sol...Congrats to them. Which artistes have you collaborated with and which artistes would you like to work with? I have worked with Calvo Mistari, Collo, Dan Aceda, Ng’ang’alito, DNA, Kidis, Wyre and Nyota Ndogo. I am not targeting any particular artiste and I am open and happy to work with anyone within and outside our borders, provided they have a good rapport and we have the necessary chemistry. Where do you get inspiration for your music? Life, love and everything in between. Most

of the things I sing about are not necessarily things I have gone through (so y’all should stop trying to guess if I am talking about my life or not. I sing about what I observe. What are some of the challenges you faced in the industry? Establishing myself as a solo artiste devoid from too much cross-reference to my days as the ‘reality show participant’ has been hardwork. Another challenge is the competitive nature of airplay that has to be shared between the local and international content... The minute we start to really listen to and promote local content we will be able to compete with other rival industries within the continent and further abroad. What is next for Amileena? I am releasing my album on 7th December. Yes it has been a long time coming but God willing I will launch it in December. The album is self-titled, no fancy names. Some of the songs in the album people have heard other songs are new. It will be an exciting listen, I promise. Are you dating? I choose not to talk about my personal life. Amileena the musician is open to the public, Ms Mwenesi is a private affair.

The proprietors, a majority of whom are Muslim, take their prayers seriously and usually close their shops during the stated times. Standing at four floors, the Eastleigh Mall houses different clothes, shoe, electronics and cosmetics stores, among sellers of other wares. HOROSCOPES capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 19

Deep down, does the kind of work you do satisfy your most intimate desires? The little problems you encounter in your professional life over the next week could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Take a look around to see if the work you do and the people in your life take your profoundly spiritual nature into account.

aquarius Jan 20 - Feb

If look at the days you spend working, you may realize that too much of your energy goes to some very meager results. Today, consider taking some time off to take advantage of life. Why not go out for a nice dinner with friends, or even better, go on a little vacation?

pisces Feb 19 - Mar 20

It’s possible that you could be in conflict with people of the opposite sex today, Pisces. You may feel as if they put obstacles in front of you and slow you down. But instead of getting into conflicts that could eventually escalate into full-blown confrontations, try and ask yourself what they think you’re doing wrong.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 19

You have a very dynamic day ahead of you, Aries. You may feel the need to put all your energy into a group project. You will want to roll up your sleeves and get to work. You’re usually a meditative, pensive person, but today you’re looking for concrete results and actions. Who knows?

taurus Apr 20 - May 20

cancer Jun 22 - Jul 22

As a Cancer, you have an innate gift for healing and calming other people in crisis situations. If this isn’t what you do for a living, you should think about doing something with this natural talent. The positions of the planets today may be telling you to think about this in more concrete terms.

leo Jul 23 - Aug 22

You seem to be a specialist at relationships, and you’re very sensitive to the ups and downs in your own. But today you may wonder if people love you less than they did before. This is rather an odd question, but another one may be hiding underneath.

There’s nothing to worry about. In fact, you may have the time to do some thinking about your personal life and what you expect to get out of your relationships. You might also want to think about how you intend to go about getting it! Perhaps some of your motivations have changed lately.

libra Sep 23 - Oct 22

Unfortunately for you, Libra, today will be no different. You may begin to feel a bit dissatisfied with the way your life is going at the moment. You will ask yourself certain questions about your goals. Does your personal life live up to those goals? Can you express your wonderful creativity as much as you’d like?

There’s a lot of tension in the air today, Gemini. Perhaps you feel like no one is listening to you, and that people are draining your energy. You may act defensively and even occasionally become very angry. It’s possible that no one has seen in you in such a state before.

Tetanus vaccine test results will be a win for Kenyans The results of the tetanus vaccines tests will be a win for the public. They should not divide our loyalty to the Government or church (Govt to conduct joint tetanus test with church, November 13, 2014).

The Government has taken a bold step in accepting the joint test, a show that it can accommodate dissenting opinions. The Catholic Church has also played its ‘oversight’ role after carrying out independent tests

on the vaccine. The test led to the conclusion that the vaccine is laced with a birth control hormone. Let the results be genuine. They should not be stage-managed to suit one side’s interests. The rival

sides are serving Kenyans whom they must win their trust. If the test is positive for the alleged hormone, the Ministry of Health will have learned to be more vigilant and avoid a drug that can adversely affect instead

of healing Kenyans. And if the outcome is negative, the church will have raised the level of awareness. It must not stop there; it must encourage its huge junk of faithful to go for the vaccine.

MPs summon Kiplagat over Athletics Kenya crisis

Athletics Kenya president Isaiah Kiplagat will appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Service to discuss the in-fighting at Riadha House. The feud is centred on plans by rival AK branches to force him out of office he has held for 22 years. Kiplagat was summoned by the MPs to explain the

latest sustained effort to oust him and the case against three-time Boston and twice Chicago Marathon champion Jeptoo who is awaiting results of her B-sample test. The summon comes a day after the High Court earlier in the week stopped a Special General Meeting scheduled for

today (Friday) by 14 dissenting AK branches until an application filed by eight others is heard on November 26 The SGM was called by 14 rival branches led by vice president Paul Mutwii who have been agitating for Kiplagat’s removal on advanced age and mismanagement grounds.

REFORM AGENDA: Abraham Chelang’a addresses the media in a past event. Rival Athletics Kenya branches and Professional Athletics Advance of Kenya (PAAK) have been agitating for an overhaul of AK management to pave way for new crop of leaders.

India batsman hits highest one-day international score

HISTORY MAKER: Rohit Sharma became the third Indian after his compatriots Sachin Tendulkar (200 not out) and Virender Sehwag (219) to score double centuries in a one-day international.

India batsman Rohit Sharma has become the first man to hit 250 in a one-day international. His 264 in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka beat the previous world record of 219 made by fellow Indian Virender Sehwag against West Indies in 2011. The right-hander also became only the second man to hit two double centuries in ODIs.

Watson set for England debut against S. Africa Anthony Watson will make his first international start when he replaces injured Bath team-mate Semesa Rokodunguni on the wing for England’s Test against South Africa on Saturday. The 20-year-old’s inclusion is the only change to the starting XV that lost 24-21 to New Zealand last weekend. Harlequins wing Marland Yarde is promoted to the replacements’ bench. Second row Courtney Lawes and hooker Dylan Hartley have passed tests for concussion to retain their places. Flanker Tom Wood has also

overcome injury, while Kyle Eastmond has shaken off illness to resume his centre partnership alongside Brad Barritt. Eastmond’s recovery means coach Stuart Lancaster is spared the choice between recalling Billy Twelvetrees in midfield and shuffling Owen Farrell from flyhalf to inside centre to bring in George Ford at 10. While Saturday will be Watson’s first international start, he began the tour match against provincial side Crusaders in New Zealand last summer, scoring an impressive long-range try in a 38-7 win.

Stadium renovations begin for KPL newbies Shabana home ground

After gaining promotion to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), Shabana FC could be playing in an ultra-modern facility next season as the Gusii Stadium, their home ground is currently undergoing renovations. The paper further reports that Kisii Governor James Ongwae has set aside Sh46 million to give the facility a new face after years of neglect. The contractor Steve Nyagaka confirmed to People Sport yesterday that the stadium will be ready for Shabana to use when the 2015 KPL season beings in February. “We are working in phases and currently the perimeter fence is almost done. Our next step is the sitting pavilion, laying of the tartan track and the playing surface. All this will be done by the time the league starts. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2014

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2014

Russia travel to Vienna to play a highly motivated Austrian side at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion for the Euro 2016 Qualifiers. The Russians need to win to erase recent home loss memories against Moldova from their supporters’ minds. A win will smother a hypothetical crisis scenario hanging over Fabio Capello’s head. Last month, Russia failed to win the qualifying matches and although one might consider a draw against Sweden a positive result, a home draw with Moldovan is far from extraordinary. Government to assist in dope tests The Government has promised to assist Kenya Rugby Union and other federations to conduct doping tests at a World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) certified laboratory in Qatar. Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Arts, Dr. Hassan Wario announced the development yesterday when he met KRU officials led by chairman, Mwangi Muthee who took the chance to reiterate the Government-sponsored Anti-Doping Taskforce adverse findings on rugby and laboratories in which supplements used by the federation were found to contain steroids were not

credible. “KRU will credibly test food supplements used by our athletes to make sure they don’t contain substances banned by the Wada,” Wario noted. Muthee who once again frayed the Prof. Moni Wekesa led taskforce was upbeat the State’s intervention would clear the tainted name of Kenya’s rugby. “We are glad the Government has taken a grip of this matter. The Taskforce, for instance put into suspicion all modern nutrition methods required by the elite athletes. We were getting questions from all over the world regarding coaches of our past and present national teams,” said Muthee.

Fifa under fire over Russia , Qatar WC hosting

Fifa’s report into allegations of corruption during the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups has been questioned. It’s said that FIFA largely undermined a report from judge Hans-Joachim Eckert. Munich-based Eckert had spent three months assessing evidence collected over the past two years by ethics investigator Michael Garcia. Eckert’s interim summary criticised aspects of the conduct of most of the

nine bids but concluded that they “did not compromise the integrity of FIFA World Cup bidding process as a whole.” In a short statement, Garcia indicated not only an intention to appeal but denounced his colleague’s work as containing “numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations” of not only the facts but Garcia’s own conclusions. in particular had hoped that Eckert’s report would offer a glimmer of light at the end of the scandal-racked tunnel dug by the executive committee by deciding, in 2008, to run bidding for the two World Cups simultaneously. Instead the outcome tumbled into farce, partly as a result of the culture chasm between Garcia’s American legal background and Eckert’s cautious and conservative central European ways.
