Activists protest strippings

From Page 1 “The recent public stripping and assault on innocent women in Nairobi and Mombasa is a testament to growing impunity and disregard for women rights. The government must now move and ensure these perpetrators are prosecuted,” the activists said in a statement read at the park. Similarly, they have asked elected leader in Nairobi including Governor Evans Kidero, Senator Mike Mbuvi and women representative Rachel Shebesh to urgently help police identify and arrest the culprits. A video recording of woman being stripped naked for alleged indecent dressing went viral last week on social

media with the police asking the victim to record a statement for them to launch investigations. The incident took place in Nairobi’s CBD along Tom Mboya Street. The woman had alighted from a matatu whose touts are accused of having orchestrated the ordeal. But Matatu Owners Association yesterday disowned the group. However, activists demanded an apology from the Embassava Sacco whose employees they accused for “the brutal, criminal and heinous act that ignored human dignity.” They want the chief justice to set up a special court to deal with gender

violence saying the vice has now reached “cancerous” levels. Article 27 of the constitution states that the State shall not discriminate directly or indirectly against any person on any ground, including race, sex, pregnancy, marital status, health status, ethnic or social origin, colour, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, dress, language or birth. “A person shall not discriminate directly or indirectly against another person on any of the grounds specified or contemplated in clause 4,” it adds in clause 5. As such, they called on the judiciary to hand over harsh sentences to the perpetrators

Ruto orders for prosecution of stripping culprits, as victim told to report incident

Deputy President William Ruto has directed that the people who were filmed stripping women in Nairobi and Mombasa on allegations that they were scantily dressed be prosecuted. Ruto, who was speaking in Bungoma, termed the behavior as barbaric and primitive, and one that should not be tolerated as it was disrespectful. “What is your business in what a woman has put on? These men who undress women and those that impregnate school going children belong in one class and should be

Three students have been suspended from school for snorting sweets in the same way drug addicts inhale cocaine. The three children, who attend the Marshall Middle School in New Mexico, were suspended after allegedly inhaling ground-up Smarties, a brand of sweets that is popular in many parts of the world. Snorting Smarties has become a common practice in many schools in the US with some people even posting videos of others performing the act online. The deed is done by crushing the sweets into dust and snorting it into the nose using a narrow tube like a straw or a rolled up piece of paper. In a letter written to the children’s parents, the school has said that the suspension is the result of the children’s ‘possession of drugs’, despite the fact that the sweets are not known to possess any drug-like qualities that would otherwise change the behaviour of the person snorting them. In fact, snorting the sweets causes a burning sensation in a person’s nose and may sometimes lead to infection while no actual ‘high’ is achieved. Kelly Cook, the mother of suspended pupil, Andrew Stonelake, has said that she was shocked at the decision, and that her son had simply crushed the sweets into a powder that he could then blow at his friends, describing his behaviour as ‘horseplay’. She added that her son and his friends had not received any prior warnings about using the sweets while at school. The three pupils will be forced to attend a school hearing into the event later this week.

prosecuted. We do not want to live in a primitive world where people don’t respect the rights of others especially the rights of women and children,” he said. And even as the Deputy President ordered for the prosecution of the culprits, the Inspector General Police David Kimaiyo, who has taken up the matter, has appealed to the victim of the assault to come out and record a statement with the police, so as to initiate investigations. “The National Police Service is appealing to the lady who is alleged

to have been stripped naked at the Embakasi stage, Tom Mboya to report to any police station and make an official report in order for us to investigate the matter,” read a message sent to our newsroom by Gatiria Mboroki, police spokesperson, on behalf of the IG. A video of a woman stripped naked by a rowdy mob went viral on social media last week. The Director of Criminal Investigations Keriako Tobiko has forwarded the clip to the director of criminal investigations directing for an immediate probe.

Agency trashes UN figures on Kenya population

There are more Kenyans on LinkedIn than there are on Twitter Facebook is currently the most popular social media site in Kenya, states a report by tech company, Digital Rand. In a surprising turn of events, LinkedIn comes second, followed closely by Twitter, of course. Facebook has close to 4 million Kenyan users while LinkedIn has 1 million and Twitter boasts 650,000. The experts at Digital Rand have been tracking Kenyan social media numbers for quite some time. A statement from the group says: “Over the last one year, we have been continually working on our platform and are confident that we now have the tools to enable companies, brands and individuals gather some social intelligence. We track conversations of up to Over

The National Council for Population and Development has dismissed the figures released recently by the United Nations Population Fund on Kenya’s population as overrated. The agency estimated Kenya’s population at 45.5 million after last year’s figures indicated a 44.4 million population. NCPD dismissed the estimations as incorrect and overstated.

250,000 Kenyans on twitter.” The group reports that as many as 4 million Kenyans use social media, which accounts for roughly 10 per cent of the country’s total population. This means that 1 out of every 10 Kenyans has a social media account. Strangely enough some of the users, listed on these sites are currently dormant. In fact, a shocking 19 per cent of Kenyans on Twitter have not posted a single tweet this year. LinkedIn users are far worse as many users rarely even check their accounts, even though a million Kenyans have joined the site. Facebook, however, has managed to keep its users active and therefore reigns supreme.

Uhuru urges youth to seize opportunities abound in Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the youth to use their abilities to steer the country forward. He said they should only look to the older generation for guidance but not wait to be told what to do. “I think it is time you young fellows realised that it is not only the future that is yours. You should be prepared to take the present because it also belongs to you. You need to grasp it and take the country forward,” he said. The President spoke on Saturday evening in Muthaiga when he launched the Mbugua Rosemary Foundation. The foundation, established in memory of Mbugua and Rosemary, fosters young entrepreneurs and helps them to achieve their dreams through skill transfer and mentorship.

Saying he is amazed by the capacity, intellectualism, innovativeness and acumen of young people in the country, President Kenyatta said they must be given space to grow. “We have had a problem in this country where we have kind of squeezed out the young people as the older people tend to increase their life span without realising that it gets to an age when one becomes useless,” he said. He called on young people to take their position and not allow to be denied opportunities by the older generation. “I believe you have the capacity and the ability to do so and ours is to do everything that we can to help you achieve that particular objective,” the

One killed, 251 arrested in police raids on Mombasa mosques One person has been killed after an incident that saw more than 250 youths arrested following a dawn raid on two mosques by a combined contingent of police from GSU, AntiTerror squad, Administration and Regular police in two mosques in Mombasa. Police say they recovered eight grenades, a pistol and crude weapons during the raid at Masjid Musa and Sakina Mosques in Majengo and Kisauni respectively. More than 600 General Service Unit, regular and Administration Police officers swarmed the area in a bid to flush out radical youth who were believed to be getting training on radicalisation. Police said the one killed had tried to hurl a grenade at them as they ventured into the Masjid Musa mosque. Another group of officers surrounded the Sakina mosque for a similar operation almost simultaneously. “We had information that the group has been planning an attack, and that is why the raid was conducted,” Mombasa OCPD Geoffrey Mayek said. “We have arrested several of them, including six notorious ones,” he added.

The gate to Sakina Mosque was pulled down as security officers forced their way in. Police say they had intelligence the group was being radicalised before they staged the raid early this morning. Tension remains high in the area even as more police officers are being deployed to keep peace. The raid, which is the latest on the mosques that have been branded radical, came just days after police warned that seven returnees from Somalia have set base at the coast and are being used to plan criminal activities in the area. Anti-terrorism police released the names and photos of seven suspects last Friday in a briefing to the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro describing them as dangerous criminals highly trained in weaponry and intelligence tactics. “They are now in Kenya and are working as mercenaries for hire and are being used to settle scores,” the brief said. Ismael Shosi Mohammed aka Ismael Mmanga, Abdulkarim Mzee aka Abdul, Farah Abdi Farah, Kayuni Khatib Khamisi, Mahir Khalid Riziki, Fauz Omar Mohamed and Swaleh Ramadhan are all believed to have been

Teachers have threatened to issue a strike notice by the end of this week if no bargain is struck from the talks over their pay increase. The talks resumed today. Both Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) have warned that they will ask their members to prepare for industrial action when schools re-open next year if no deal comes out of the talks. Kuppet says its members will down their tools next term if their employer will not have paid them their allowances. Chairman Amboko Milemba says that they will have no option but to extend their December holiday should the talks between them and the Teachers Service Commission hit a snag. “The decision is

that we will not reopen the schools until the government agrees to pay our members their dues,” he said. Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion also said they shall issue a strike notice this week if a salary deal is not

struck. Sossion said if the talks held today will not bear fruits then they will have no option but to down their tools. “They have until Monday (today) if they will have nothing on the table then

parents should prepare for a longer December holiday,” he said. Mr. Sossion also took issue with the salaries and remuneration commission and warned it against interfering with the talks.

Teacher makes Sh100,000 a season from fruits As the market for traditional crops gets congested and diseases ravage traditionally lucrative crops like maize and wheat, Charles Mureithi, a farmer in Laikipia, is taking a different approach to agriculture. Together with other likeminded farmers keen on maximising their income, Mureithi has turned to fruit farming, which has seen him and his peers more than triple their yields with some growers making more than Sh100,000 a season. From yellow and purple

passion fruits, Red Royale pawpaws, avocados and apples, these farmers have found a gold mine as demand comes from both local and international markets. In Kenya for example a healthconscious middle class with an affinity for spending is driving the demand for fruit farming. Soft drink companies, who prefer to buy from farmers are similarly pushing up the demand. Mureithi has been able to expand his orchard, relying mainly from the passion fruit proceeds. Charles, a secondary school

teacher and a fruit farmer in Dimcom village in Sipili, Laikipia has over 1200 passion fruit trees. “Business is good,” says Mureithi who teaches Swahili at Lanai Day Secondary School. When he was testing the project three years ago with only 150 passion trees, he could earn Sh80,000 for his fruit each season with a kilo fetching Sh30. His success indicates that an initial investment of less than Sh100,000 is easily recovered once the harvesting season arrives.

Mumias Sugar

Mumias Sugar, a Kenya-based company, engaged in the production and sale of sugar, ethanol, water, generation and sale of electricity, was last week’s stock winner with a 10.71 per cent stock price increase from Sh1.40 to Sh1.55. Mumias is currently facing corporate governance issues combined with risk debt default, which threaten the firm’s cash flow and revenue, critical to servicing its heavy debt

burden. The drop stems from increased sugar imports, including claims of illegal shipments by top management (costing the company more than Sh1 billion), forcing down prices, hurting its margins and causing the slide of its share. Despite its rise in stock prices, Mumias is among the several companies that will face stiffer competition starting from March 2015 with the end of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) protection measure from cheaper imports.

arlier this month, popular blog Kahawa Tungu alleged that popular Benga musician Jonny Junior, together with his entourage, had attempted to rape a lady in Kisumu. The incident allegedly happened after the musician’s show at Signature Club. The girl who was not named, was said to have been in the musician’s car together with two other members of the musician’s entourage who they tried to force themselves onto her. When she refused and caused a fracas, the lady was allegedly thrown out of the moving vehicle sustaining injuries on her person. The matter, the blog said, was reported to the police and a warrant of arrest for the singer issued out. Violence meted out against women has been on the rise recently with cases of women being stripped naked for ‘indecent dressing. It is no wonder that a rape allegation against a popular musician, who is adored by fans, would infuriate some people even if they are not substantiated. X Access caught up with the musician, who is known for his song Adundo and he dismissed the story as propaganda. Jonny denied the allegations saying the story was purely propaganda and that there was no truth to it. “The story on the blog was propaganda, this is not the first time, I have heard stories like these before,” said Jonny. “And it is not something that is worrying me because I am used to it, the blogger is the one who knew what he was looking for when he wrote such an article,” he added. Jonny vehemently denied that such

an incident took place saying: “That is something that cannot happen— Maybe I am the one who will be raped. But not me raping someone else,” said the musician. How did he react or feel when something like this threatened to tarnish his name and bring down his career? Wasn’t he scared that this ‘propaganda would tarnish his name? “I felt nothing when the story broke. It did not bother me and still does not bother me. I know there are people bent on settling personal scores. I think I will sing about it!” said the musician. Why then did he not call a press conference and tell his side of the story? “It is never true until you start denying it. I refuse to give credence to lies,” he said. There are so many loopholes in this alleged rape story but the casual nature of how it is being handled is scary. Rape is a serious offence. It should not be used to cause embarrassment or tarnish ones name. Where is the truth? Who is fooling who in the case of Jonny Junior Vs the unknown lady?

When an invitation landed at XAccess to attend a hair awards event, we almost chuckled. What hair? But we were curious all the same. The event, we learnt, was meant to honour the outstanding hairstylists that have dedicated themselves to beautifying people’s hair and the best brands used to make hair beautiful. Clients across the country were given a chance to nominate their hairstylists in different categories, four months earlier. The judges then visited the

Despite the light showers, the attendance register was an all-time high. On the runway, Afro Street Kollection by Melanie, Nato Designs, Simbaress Fashions, Victorious, Sara and Joy, La casa designs, Zaramu Designs, Akisa Wangare strutted their latest collections specifically designed for the event. All the collections were made from African materials, with Ankara and Kitenge being the most-commonly used fabrics. The highlight of the show was when models teamed up with the Sarakasi dancers bringing the runway to life and leaving

the audience in awe. The runway show took place at two specific times— 3pm and 5pm, giving the attendees the chance to stroll through the grounds and buy an attire that had caught their eye on the runway or get some food. The emcee of the event, Karen, seemed to have borrowed a leaf from Nicki Minaj when she hosted the MTV EMAs by changing into numerous outfits, all designed by the designers at the event. On the decks was DJ Joe Mfalme, who kept people entertained as the runway show took a break. The song of the event was Sura Yako by Sauti Sol, which sent everyone including the Sarakasi dancers, models, audiences and even the organizers into a Lipala jig.

Police reforms must start at recruitment

The repeat of the police recruitment exercise must not be a second avenue for filling stomachs of greedy officers. The process must be fair and transparent for the force to be reformed (Police body to repeat

enrolment of recruits, October 31, 2014). The force has always been cited as the most corrupt institution starting from enrollment to field work. Recruitment involves bribery

where applicants have to ‘buy’ their selection to training. Officers will always work to return what they paid at the entry level. The appetite grows as seniors demand for promotion. As merit gives way to fat pockets,

this kills morale of those seeking to serve the nation. It also allows the rich to rise quickly in ranks. Police reforms have taken a back seat to remain only a dream only on paper. Lazy officers have been allowed to

join the force and rise to command others with little or no qualification. Inefficiency leads to disjointed operations and loss of officers as witnessed during attacks in Baringo, Turkana and Mombasa.

Second victory for Jepkosgei in Kass Marathon

Agnes Jepkosgei and Philip Cheruiyot are the winners of the 8th edition of Kass International Marathon. Jepkosgei failed to improve on her 2012 winning time of 2.41.30, breaking the tape in 2.47.10 for her second victory on the course yesterday. “The race’s course was the same but the weather was a little bit favourable. The challenge is that Kenya’s races are unpredictable as compared to races abroad which you know in advance who will be your competitor. “However, I had braced myself for the race as I could gauge after my performance in Los Angeles April this year where I was placed fourth,” said Jepkosgei, who improved her runners-up spot from last year’s 7th edition. Pamela Jemeli came second three minutes later, posting 2.50.23. She was followed by

Carolyne Jepchirchir, who settled for third when she clocked 2.55.17 as 2010 winner Margaret Mungunzi, who hails from Eastern region, came fourth at 2.56.30. In the men’s 42km race, 31-year-old Cheruiyot beat a contingent of elite runners, including Bomet-based 2012 winner Weldon Kirui and 2012 Standard Chartered marathon winner Wesley kibet Langat, to bag Sh1.5 million. Gilbert Maina and Soibei Richard came second and third respectively, recording 2.20.40 and 2.20.53. In the 10km category, 2014 Glasgow Scotland Commonwealth Games marathon gold medalist Flomena Cheyech easily sailed to the finish line posting 33.15.5, ahead of Sylvia Kibet and Alice Aprot who bagged silver and bronze at 33.54.2 and 33.59.5 respectively.

Netherlands’ Euro 2016 hope revived Arjen Robben and KlaasJan Huntelaar both scored twice as Netherlands revived their Euro 2016 hopes with a stunning victory over Latvia. After two defeats from three games, Coach Guus Hiddink had threatened to quit if they lost to their Group A rivals. His concerns were eased when Robin van Persie headed in after six minutes

and Robben curled in a brilliant second, before Huntelaar poked in his first. Jeffrey Bruma stabbed in before Robben and Huntelaar netted from long range. Earlier in the match, Manchester United’s Dutch defensive midfielder Daley Blind limped off after picking up a leg injury in a challenge with Eduards Visnakovs.

Elsewhere, Cyprus moved above Belgium in Group B with a 5-0 win over minnows Andorra. APOEL winger Georgios Efrem scored a hat-trick in the crushing victory. In Group H, Norway’s Havard Nordtveit headed in the only goal of the match against Azerbaijan to help his side close the gap on Group H front-runners Croatia and Italy.

What awaits Shabana in KPL After eigbt years in the abyss, Shabana Football Club finally made it back to the top tier of Kenyan football after topping the 2014 National Super League Zone B. The Next Level. The Kenya Premier League level. A far much different ball game. Much has changed since the Justine Mogire-captained side last featured in the KPL. Leadership has changed hands, the league has been restructured, clubs have a better financial muscle, logistical costs have soared, there’s Live coverage, media interest has been restored, expectations from fans keeps hitting at times unrealistic heights and the league is more competitive, just ask Nakuru Top Fry. Away from the pitch, there will be those boardroom huffs and puffs, the African elephant in the room. They always arise somehow,

ELATED: Shabana FC players celebrate their return to top flight football on 8th November 2014. Whether the promotion was merited or connived by the Football Kenya Federation top brass as has been suggested in other forums is a fragile matter perhaps handled better by experts who’ve got fingertip veracity on the issue.

especially once you involve that democratic process we lobby for but love to hate when we get it; elections. Will they be peaceful? Like every club that gets promoted, Shabana will be among the bookmakers’ favorites to drop. No doubt about that. However, that

should serve as a motivation to Gilbert Selebwa’s side as they seek to reinforce themselves as one of the marquee names in the folklore of Kenyan football. Luckily, they have two County governments behind them, Kisii and Nyamira counties who both should support

the club and model it into the levels of Gor Mahia or AFC Leopards. Though traditionally considered community clubs, K’Ogalo and Ingwe have marshaled support that transcends beyond their tribal and geographical pigeonholes.

Ghana to name Grant as coach

Ghana expect to have a deal in place for Avram Grant to be their new national coach after their final 2015 Nations Cup qualifier on Wednesday. Former Chelsea boss Grant, 59, has been discussing his financial package with the Ghana Football Association (GFA). There had been concerns his Israeli nationality could pose access problems to some North African countries. GFA president Kwesi Nyantekyie said “that is an issue” but says the two parties will deal with it. “The holder of an Israeli passport will not only be denied entry into North African countries, he will be denied into some Arab countries,” he said. “He has brought an alternative way of dealing with it. There is a satisfactory arrangement to arrest his threat. Very soon, in a matter of months, we should clear that.” Grant took Chelsea to the final of the 2008 European Champions League, in which they lost to Manchester United.

Shield winners Sofapaka eyeing continental glory

Sofapaka are looking forward to continental football after beating Posta Rangers in the Gotv Shield finals played at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru on Saturday. Clifford Miheso scored late to

give Batoto Ba Mungu 2-1 victory. Sofapaka had earlier in the match surged ahead through an Enock Agwanda strike for a comfortable 1-0 half-time lead. However, Rangers hit back after the break through

Pascal Ochieng’. Miheso then pulled the late winner, handing Sofapaka a ticket to represent Kenya in CAF Confederation Cup next year. Sofapaka coach Sam Timbe praised

his players for keeping composure despite relentless attacks from Rangers’s forwards in second half. “Rangers were a good opponent. They threw everything at us especially after they pulled level but

Djokovic wins World Tour finals after Federer pulls out Novak Djokovic admitted his season had come to an “awkward end” after Roger Federer withdrew from Sunday’s ATP World Tour final in London. Federer, 33, pulled out with a back problem after a lengthy semi-final against Stan Wawrinka on Saturday. This left world number one Djokovic to collect the trophy before playing an exhibition set against Andy Murray. “You cannot blame Roger. I’m sure he would play the World Tour finals if he could,” said Djokovic, 27. “This is probably the first time in history that this happens. It’s a very awkward situation to talk about, to

be honest. “You never like to win, especially these big matches against big rivals, with the retirement, but that’s the way it is.” The 33-year-old Swiss announced he was “not match-fit” as he apologised in person to the crowd at the O2 Arena. Federer beat Stan Wawrinka 4-6 7-5 7-6 (8-6) on Saturday in a thrilling semi-final lasting two hours and 48 minutes. It was Djokovic’s fourth victory at the season-ending event and he also becomes the first man to win three titles on the trot since Ivan Lendl in the 1980s.

EASY VICTORY: Djokovic in a past match. The Serbian won the ATP World Tour final after Roger Federer pulled out with a back problem.

Federer - who has won the tournament six times - confirmed his withdrawal following the doubles final yesterday afternoon, won by American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan. “I’m sorry I’m not fit to play,” he

said. “I hope you understand. I wanted to come out personally and explain. “I did everything I could. I took pain-killers, had rest until the very end, but I just cannot compete at this level with Novak.”

Warriors book play offs slot after weekend wins Butali Sugar Warriors became the first men side to book a slot in the play-offs of this year’s Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) league after winning two crucial matches over the weekend. Warriors, formerly Kisumu

Simba, beat Western Jaguars 3-1 on Saturday and overcame Greensharks 2-0 yesterday at the City Park Stadium to conclude an impressive season, which has seen them play six games in three weeks,

I am happy my players’ did not give up defending,” he said. “We will take a break for Christmas before we resume preparations for continental football and 2015 season. I know it won’t be easy but we will work hard.”

winning four and drawing two. Second-half goals from Joeren Stoech and Emmanuel Simiyu saw Butali hand the Sharks to their first defeat of the season.

The win moved them top of Pool A with 14 points three more than second-placed Greensharks. Both teams have finished their matches. In the women’s league, United States International University-Africa (USIU-A)

women’s hockey club went through to the Kenya Hockey Union play-offs next month in Nairobi. USIU will play Strathmore University, who finished second in last year’s league.

Forward Gareth Bale believes Wales’ goalless draw in Belgium was proof of their new-found team spirit. The result, which Chris Coleman described as his “favourite” as manager, maintained Wales’ unbeaten start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. “I think in previous years we would have definitely caved towards the end,” said Bale. “But we showed what we’re made of and what true team spirit we’ve got.” Despite entering the match at the top of Group B, Wales were underdogs against a Belgian side who had reached the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup. Wales had to withstand heavy pressure at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, and Bale was delighted with his side’s resolute performance. “It’s fantastic for our confidence and something for us to build on,” he said. Although Israel overtook the Welsh at the top of Group B with a win over BosniaHercegovina, Coleman’s side still have a realistic chance of qualifying for Euro 2016.

Crowd trouble mars Croatia Italy draw The Euro 2016 qualifier between Italy and Croatia was interrupted on two occasions when flares were thrown onto the pitch and riot police intervened to control disturbances in the crowd. The Group H match, which ended 1-1, was stopped in both halves, with players taken off for 10 minutes after the break by referee Bjorn Kuipers. Italy’s Antonio Candreva and Croatia’s Ivan Perisic scored the goals. The game itself was a pacey first-half which only slowed with the interruptions for the flares. Italy were ahead after only 11 minutes when Candreva picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. But Croatia responded just four minutes later. A blunder led to the equaliser, as veteran goalkeeper Gianliugi Buffon let Perisic’s shot go under his gloves and into the back of the net. Unfortunately for Croatia, their play slowed once Luka Modric was taken off after 28 minutes with an injury. The visitors were impressive, however, and enjoyed the bulk of possession at the San Siro on Sunday night. Southampton’s Graziano Pelle came on to make another appearance for Italy but he was unable to find a winner for the home side. This match will unfortunately be remembered for the ugly scenes caused by the visiting supporters, however. Croatia and Italy are on 10 points, but the Croats lead on goal difference

FLARY: Flares and missiles are thrown on to the San Siro pitch as the Italy and Croatia players look on before the game was suspended. European Championship qualifier suspended for 10 minutes in second-half after travelling fans throw flares on to pitch and emergency services are forced to extinguish small fires. The teams drew 1-1.

Blind increases United injury woes Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind will have a knee scan today after suffering a suspected medial ligament injury while on international duty for Netherlands. The 24-year-old limped off 20 minutes into the 6-0 victory over Latvia. He has played eight times for United since his Sh2.1 billion summer move from Ajax. Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink said: “I’m rather negative. I think it’s a medial ligament that is

twisted. It might be a rupture.” Blind said on Instagram: “I’m proud of my 25 games for the Dutch national team, but I’m so gutted with my injury... I’ll stay positive and will come back stronger! Nevertheless a great win, 6-0!” He is the third United player to be injured during the international break, with England Midfielder Michael Carrick and goalkeeper David De Gea dislocating a finger during a training session with Spain on Friday.

Anti-doping talks dominate WADA forum The World Anti-Doping Agency,WADA, Foundation board met yesterday in France with the setting up of the Kenya Anti-Doping organization, ADO topping the agenda. The WADA Foundation Board approved its Compliance Activities Plan for 2015 with the President, Sir Craid Reedie prioritizing the setting up of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya, ADAK as one of the most ‘pressing’ requirements for the next year. “In addition to the approval of compliance activities and an increase to the annual budget, we also covered topics ranging from Code Implementation to Investigations, and the Anti-Doping Research Fund to the pressing

matter of Kenya’s anti-doping program,” said Reedie of the planned center that will test Kenyan athlete’s in- and out-of-competition. A rush that has been heightened by the latest positive test of top marathoner Rita Jeptoo whose positive test confirmed fears by the Kenyan Anti-Doping Task Force Report which explored allegations of widespread doping among Kenyan athletes- not only in track and field but also in Rugby. Last month WADA, Anti-Doping Norway and the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency met with Cabinet Secretary of Sport Culture and the Arts, Dr. Hassan Wario in Cape Town to discuss the steps for initiating the new ADO in Nairobi.
