Kenyans upbeat as Obama unveils immigration plans
hope in sight?: Immigrants in the US protesting deportation from the ‘Land of Opportunity’. President Barrack Obama is expected to make a statement on immigration plans that is expected to spare the several hundred thousand immigrants living in the US from being forcefully evicted from the country.
About 200, 000 Kenyans said to be illegally living in the US are eagerly waiting for President Barack Obama’s statement on new immigration plans, set to be delivered this evening. Obama will unveil his longawaited immigration plan in an announcement that is expected to change rules governing deportations. There are millions of undocumented immigrants living in the US with opinion still divided on how to handle their deportation. Those familiar with the basic outline of the plan told CNN that deferring deportation for the parents of U.S. citizens is key on the plans. That move would allow more than 3.5 immigrants stay in the US without the threat of deportation. P2

Obama’s immigration plans awaited From Page 1 “Everybody agrees that our immigration system is broken. Unfortunately, Washington has allowed the problem to fester for far too long,” Obama said in a video posted on his Facebook page yesterday. “And so what I’m going to be laying out is the things that I can do with my lawful authority as President to make the system work better, even as I continue to work with Congress to encourage them to get a bipartisan, comprehensive bill
that can solve the entire problem,” he added. But the optimism is pegged on a remark he made in Washington in January. “When people come here to fulfill their dreams; to study, invent and contribute to our culture, they make our country a more attractive place for businesses to invest and create jobs for everyone. So let’s get immigration reform done this year,” he said. Obama’s rise to the presidency
in 2008 gave hope to many immigrants of becoming legal residents as his Democrats party vowed to bring about massive immigration reforms. Obama’s aunt Zeituni Anyango, who died in the US before being buried in Kisumu earlier in the year, is one of those who did not have legal documents despite living there for more than a decade. It is widely believed that this state of illegal residence relegated her to a life of squalor.
The contours of Obama’s announcement have been the subject of speculation among immigration activists for months, although White House has yet to officially relay what Obama will announce when he speaks to the American people tonight. Administration officials say a key part of the announcement will be allowing the parents of American citizens, who are undocumented immigrants themselves, to remain in the United States without
the threat of deportation. That would include the parents of legal residents, but not the parents of children eligible for delayed deportation under a rule Obama enacted in 2012. Up to 3.6 million people would be affected by that change, according to an estimate from the Migration Policy Institute, though the figures are smaller if Obama’s announcement includes a minimum number of years spent in the country.
Russian loves his new platy pus-like look A Russian designer has denounced his external human physique and declared himself a platypus after a number of successful facial modifications. Jenya Bolotov, 26, says he is pleased with his new look and he is not stopping any time soon. “Externally, I am now a platypus,” he said. “My resemblance is the way I want it to be. It takes bravery to do what I’ve done and I will keep modifying my body until I am happy,” Bolotov told News Dog Media of UK. The designer had his lip stretched out and horizontally to look like an egg-laying sea mammal. He has been piecing his body for the last eight years to attain the new look and he is not stopping soon till he gets a similar look to the semi aquatic animal. He, however, admits to the UK he experiences in the process of the transformation. “It does not hurt so much. You wear the one size of jewellery and expect complete healing. And over time, for example, instead of 3mm, you can insert a 3.5 mm diameter jewellery... Of course, if you hurry, it will be painful,” he says. TRANSFORMATION: Russian Jenya Bolotov underwent several facial modification procedures to make him look like a platypus. He says he is happy with his new look and will continue making it better.

Suspects in Thuo murder finally freed on bond
Young people can fix the world, given the chance The growing number of young people in the world can usher in a golden age of prosperity and development, new research has revealed. They could unlock fast economic growth in many developing countries, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said earlier this week. Unless a lack of access to health care and education hinders progress, the world’s 1.8 billion youth will become drivers of economic progress. According to research from Reuters, the opportunity for economic and social growth arises when the working age population becomes larger than people of non-working age and, as a result, a country faces fewer costs associated with children and the elderly. “We have an unprecedented 1.8 billion young people, the largest the world has ever known and the largest the world will ever know,” UNFPA Executive Director Babatunde
Osotimehin told Thomson Reuters Foundation in a phone interview. Speaking during the UNFPA’s annual State of the World Population report, he added: “We have an opportunity, particularly the developing world, to take advantage of their energy, their creativity and innovation - to develop their economies and societies.” Eighty-nine per cent of the world’s youth live in less developed countries. They face major challenges, including a lack of progress in health care., a lack of access to education and high unemployment rates. In fact, over 73 million young people between the ages of 15 and 24 were unemployed in 2013. They make up 36 per cent of global unemployment, according to numbers from the International Labour Organization (ILO).Young women, in particular are facing serious problems as they are more likely to be victims of violence.
Officers arrested over robberies
Two police officers have been arrested in connection with robbery cases in Kabete, Nairobi. The two, who are attached to the dog section at Kabete police station, were accused of robbing a man of Sh80,000 after he had withdrawn the money from a bank in Kawangware. Before their arrest, the officers had used a private salon car to kidnap a Briton and demanded Sh50,000 before releasing him. Police say they have been receiving cases of carjacking and robbery involving suspected thugs armed with guns and handcuffs. The arrested officers are suspected to be working in cahoots with the gang. It was until Wednesday that the Briton’s relatives complained their kin was
held at the police station by officers demanding bribes. And when a search was conducted at the station, the victim was found in a car at the parking lot. Cases of police officers engaging in criminal activities is not new even as the police service grapples with gangs in its own ranks. Just last month, a policeman who was part of three-man gang was shot dead in a botched robbery in Kisumu. The officers was gunned alongside another man after police trailed them shortly after executing two robberies in the lakeside city. Two suspects gunned down in Githurai Two suspected thugs were today morning shot dead by police in Githurai. Several pedestrians had complained of being attacked by the gang when alarm was raised.

Investors warned on environment National Environment Management Authority has warned investors against rushing to projects whose environmental sustainability has not been approved by the agency. Speaking in a consultative session during the Kenya International Investment Conference, NEMA Director General Geffrey Wahungu said the authority will not hesitate to stop any developments it has not given the greenlight. The director said the 90 days approval time at sometimes is not enough to assess the impact of a project on the environment because of outsourcing some critical services. “It is advisable for investors to take time for consultations to avoid stoppage while on the way. The authority takes more time to approve because we have other lead bodies which we have to consult before getting back to you,” he said. Prof. Wahungu said lack of consultation with the community also leads to conflicts which stall projects. Ministry of Environment Director of Climate Change Department, Fatuma Hussein, said investment
that does not support a clean environment will give short-lived results as the population of the country increases. “We are a vulnerable country and our population is doubling in the next a few years. We want to maintain low carbon by embracing sustainable exploitation of natural resources,” she said. She said the Ministry has developed a climate change Bill that it in parliament. Once the bill is approved and passed into law, it will ensure the impact of any project on the environment is assessed upfront. She said the government has prioritised private investment in the counties, and doing more by incorporating Climate Innovation Centres in these devolved systems. The laws will curtail any development that does not copy with environmental sustainability. She, however, said lack of awareness among Kenyans and insufficient funds have remained a challenge to a safe surrounding. British High Commission to Kenya, John Mutton, pledged Sh565.7 billion from his Government to fight
Study raises alarm over obesity toll Study raises alarm over obesity toll A new research says that the worldwide cost of obesity is about the same as that of smoking or armed conflicts, and greater than both alcoholism and climate change. The McKinsey Global Institute said it costs Sh182 trillion representing 2.8 percent of annual economic activity. Some 2.1 billion people - about 30 percent of the world’s population were also found to be overweight or obese, the researchers added. They said measures that relied less on individual responsibility should be used to tackle the problem. The report said there was a “steep economic toll”, and the proportion could rise to almost half of the world’s population by 2030. The financial costs of obesity are growing for health care and more
widely in the economy. By causing illness, obesity results in working days and output loss. The researchers argued that a range of ambitious policies need to be considered, maintaining that a systemic rather than piecemeal response was essential. “These initiatives would need to draw on interventions that rely less on individual responsibility and more on changes to the environment,” the report said. The initiatives assessed in the report include portion control for some packaged food and the reformulation of fast and processed food. The report further explained that these measures would be more effective than taxes on high-fat and high-sugar products or public health campaigns. Weight management programmes and workplace fitness schemes were also considered.

climate change for the next eight years. Mutton asked the Kenyan Government to simplify regulations as an incentive especially for
external investors. “External investors have easier access to cheap credit facilities in Europe than in Kenya. Simplicity of
regulations will attract more of them,” he said. He said tapping into renewable energy will give more reliable power, unlike the water-generated.
Drug cartels financing Mombasa radicals Mombasa County commissioner Nelson Marwa now says money earned from drug cartels is being used to finance radicalisation in Kisauni and other coastal regions. “Drug money is being used to finance radicalisation and al-shabaab in this county. And it is a very hard fact,” he said. There have been reports that youths who attacked people in the region early this week had been supplied with drugs. Marwa says drug barons in the county are being ferried by public transport means with the cartels devising ways of disguising the drugs as parcels and vegetables. “They pretend to ferry potatoes or second-hand clothes to Kongowea market and that is why we are asking bus companies to ensure that all loads undergo thorough screening to ensure that buses are not used to ferry hard drugs to Mombasa,” he said. Hundreds of youths have been arrested in the region with three others surrendering to the police.
Knut issues Dec 5, strike ultimatum The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has given the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) an ultimatum to conclude the ongoing negotiations by December 5, failure to which teachers will go on strike. Speaking after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting yesterday, Secretary General Wilson Sossion stressed that teachers in the country are grossly underpaid and the most taxed and if the issue of their basic pay is not addressed, they will pass a motion for industrial action during the Annual Delegates’ Conference set for December 9. He further pointed out that calls by TSC for teachers to undergo a job evaluation exercise before talks resume were misplaced and termed that as a delay tactic by the commission. “If this process will not have been concluded by December 5, then we shall move a motion on December 9 at the Annual Delegates Conference and this is the first time in the history of the union that a National Delegates Conference will have a rare opportunity to vote for an industrial action,” he said. He stated that many teachers were working in deplorable conditions. “This amounts to punishment and indeed near slavery and we would like to invite everyone especially the government to the provisions of the Constitution section 41 that workers have a right to fair remuneration, fair labour practice, right to join a trade

union and a right to a Collective Bargaining Agreement,” he outlined. “It is also important to know that the teachers in this country are the most taxed and the leading tax payers to the exchequer and if you pay tax you must get services in return and this includes fair compensation and it is what we are asking for. Therefore our demand to conclude negotiations amicable was informed by many reasons. You are all aware that we were on strike last year which ended acrimoniously since we were bundled unfairly with a view of punishing and intimidating teachers and the union through trumped up charges.” He said that the union will not be cowed by anyone and will continue serving
teachers and advocating for their rights no matter what is thrown at them. “That is not going to dampen our spirits since we had a return-towork formula which we signed and deposited at the Industrial Court and it bears the signatures of government representatives. The clauses are also clear that negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement shall commence immediately and be concluded within 90 days,” he said. His sentiments were echoed by the union’s National Chairman Mudzo Nzili who indicated that job evaluation was not part of their return-to-work formula and emphasised the need for teachers’ patience not to be misconstrued as weakness.

SMELLING NICE: The bleach industry has been growing, with Kenyans developing a liking for scented products
Bleach sector grows as Kenyans embrace scented products
Kenyan consumers are driving the growth of the bleach industry, specifically the scented kind used in washing detergents. “The leading bleach brand is ‘Jik’ with a 27 per cent value share, followed by ‘Jeyes’ and ‘Jet’ with shares of 21 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively,” states the report. A report from research group, Euromonitor revealed that although these products were only introduced in Kenya in 2008, within their first year, their demand among consumers was quite high. “Perfumed bleach is perceived to be a significant improvement on original bleach products, which are often criticised for their strong smell,” says the report. The most common and preferred scents among local consumers are lemon and peach. Despite the popularity of these products,
low income consumers have not been swayed as easily as middle and upper-class buyers. The report adds: “Even though bleach is necessary, especially for stain removal, many users have been turning to alternatives thus slowing down the growth of bleach.” In 2013, for instance, the growth of the bleach sector grew by 9 per cent, down from 10 per cent the previous year. Euromonitor experts argue that this was due to many awareness campaigns that put bleach in a negative light as a health hazard, as well as the continuing search for alternative washing product. It adds that it is difficult to predict whether the growing middle-class and favourable economy will boost the use of bleach products, especially when there are many health campaigns which discourage it.
A new cannabis brand has been launched honouring the late legendary reggae musician, Bob Marley. The cannabis brand was launched by his family and they describe it as the world’s first global cannabis brand. It will be called Marley Natural and will also include cannabis-infused lotions, creams used to treat sunburn and small containers to store personal marijuana stashes. Privateer Holdings, a marijuana-focused venture capital firm in Washington, in the US, is developing the brand in collaboration with Marley’s family. Brendan Kennedy, the
chief executive said that Marley helped to start the movement to end cannabis prohibition 50 years ago. “It was just a natural fit between Bob Marley and this product. You know if you were to look for the most famous human being who ever walked the face of the earth related to cannabis, it would be Bob Marley.” Cedella Marley, Bob Marley’s daughter, said her father would have welcome the move.” My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb.” The cannabis will be sold in the US first with plans for it to be sold worldwide from next year.

Property developers urged to invest in luxury properties Kenya’s property market has seen an upward trend which has been facilitated by a 25 per cent growth of the middle class with more purchasing power. A report by Lamudi, an online property portal, reveals that the growing middle class in Kenya is seeking unique homes with attractive finishing, ample security and durable facilities. Lamudi Kenya Senior Key Account Manager, Oliver Manyasi said there is need for property developers to focus on high end properties to meet the high demand of such properties
by the middle class. Manyasi added that low interest rates of between 11 to 14 percent enacted by the government, create substantial cash flow for the middle class society hence they are willing to spend more to get their dream home and provide numerous opportunities for investment into the real estate industry. “With attractive interest rates, a limited supply of housing, and a more educated and ambitious population, the real estate market is faced with many opportunities to excel in the future,” said Manyasi.
Manyasi said the property market will remain strong, with increased demand for high-end property segments holding steady to meet the international standards for the ever-growing expat community and middle class. “Kenya is East Africa’s economic hub. Savvy foreign investors prefer investing into the region especially after the discovery of minerals and expansion of transport and telecommunication facilities which have greatly opened up latent areas in Kenya,” said Manyasi.

proposal. The World Bank notes that 82 per cent of Kenya’s urban dwellers have access to fairly decent sources of water with the remaining 18 per cent surviving in deplorable conditions. The proposed hike is set to improve infrastructure in the city’s slums by providing thousands of residents with access to social amenities that Nairobi’s middle and upper classes have been
enjoying for years. Most, if not all, of the city’s slums lack access to proper sanitation services and sewerage systems. By hiking the tariffs, the Nairobi government could access enough funds to put the crisis to an end. A proper sanitation system translates to improved standards of living for those residing in shanties and better health for those at the risk of contracting hygienerelated diseases like typhoid and cholera.

THE MATRIX OF
BIG BROTHER AFRICA T here is more to the show than nudity, sex and alcohol…. Africa’s most prestigious reality show Big Brother Africa (BBA) has accorded many an opportunity to flirt with fame and fortune, but has also faced harsh criticism since its debut in 2003. BBA has been accused of eroding Africanism by allowing proliferation of western ways. It allegedly perpetrates unruliness and immorality, perhaps because of intense drama and antics elicited by housemates. Contestants who decently represent their countries barely get applauded but wait until housemates kiss or merely cuddle in the first week! Uganda’s representative in this year’s BBA Hotshots, Ellah has already been tagged ‘loose’ for warming up to Tanzanian playboy Idris. Who knows, maybe their affection will lead to the aisle. Haven’t we seen this before? It may not be a convent but the added exposure BBA affords housemates is commendable. Strengths and talents are reinforced by the show’s producers (Endemol). Big shot personalities are invited to motivate and train housemates in various arts. With the help of the producers and fellow housemates, they gain publicity and a chance to showcase their skills. Their profiles are enriched and clientele increased. Kenya’s BBA ex-housemates, Sheila Kwamboka, Nick Wangondu and Malonza hit fame soon as they took
part in the show. After the show, Nick seized himself an acting and TV presenting spot, Malonza is now a highly sought after TV presenter and so is Sheila, who represented Kenya twice, and finished a respectable fifth. Friendships and relationships have emerged and some sprouted into marriages. Kevin Chuwang of BBA 4, not only scooped the cash prize but found a wife in Tanzanian Elizabeth Gupta. They are still married. Housemates cannot afford to lounge about because they have to earn everything in the house. Food and luxuries are provided according to how they perform in their respective task through wagers. Stringent rules are in place and must be upheld or face harsh consequences such as disqualification. Over seasons, the show has gradually evolved with the cash prize scaling from $100,000 (Sh8.5m), to 200,000 (Sh17m) then $300,000 (Sh26m). Series one premiered in 2003 with a dozen housemates from 12 countries and spanned for a total of 106 days. Kenya was represented by Alexander Kasembeli Holi in season 1. Season two stirred undiluted rage when Nigeria’s Ofunneka Malokwu was allegedly sexually assaulted while drunk and passed out by Richard Dyle Bezuidenhout, Tanzania’s representative and winner of the season. Namibia’s Meryl Shikwambane and Ghanaian Kwaku Asamoah Tutu were rebuked for their gross

sexual misconduct in the said edition Season three was drama packed for 91 days but not with overflowing twists like the fourth series: The Revolution. The Revolution hosted 25 housemates from more than 12 countries. Unlike, the past seasons, female housemates who were in an adjacent house joined the boys after a week. Housemates were paired on day 28 and evicted in twos until individual playing resumed on day 49. Nigeria’s, Kevin Chuwang bagged $200,000. All- Stars, came in fifth with 14 contestants from previous seasons. Each housemate had
a secret worth $1000. It was spiced up on week two by the introduction of The Barn where evicted housemates went to. Some went back to the main house while others permanently axed. The Barn was shut on day 77. In the sixth season, Amplified, two housemates walked away with the cash. The tallying process was however scrutinized by viewers who felt they were fooled by M-Net and Endemol who they believed had a hand in the voting process. Season seven was named StarGame and housed 35 contestants who were divided into two groups. Seven of
them were celebrities who lived in the part of the house called Upville while the rest were Downvillers. The cash prize was raised to $300,000. Kenya came close to clinching the prize when Prezzo came in second after Keagan Petersen. Then came last year’s, The Chase, which had 28 contenders living in two houses, Ruby and Diamond. The Emerald House was introduced on day 48 with fake housemates whose aim was to give the housemates a run for their money just as this year’s ninth season (Hotshots) is doing. and are going gaga over the presence of ex-housemates in the game. They all believe that the ex-housemates are there for the cash prize too. The game’s stake elevates with each season redefining each housemate’s future. Hotshots is laced with new dynamics. Immunity from nomination depended on how housemate’s scored in their tasks. Most of the people who participated in this show in the past have benefited highly and redefined their career paths. While most Kenyans have not warmed up to BBA the ball is in M-Net’s court, let the people know what BBA is all about it could change the dynamics.

he world has changed. A mere hashtag has been known to bring down a president, a major news outlet and various high profile individuals. Hashtags have been used to draw attention to issues that needs to be discussed. Initially, hashtags were used as a means to easily find the discussion on a particular issue being discussed online. Over time the hashtag has acquired a life of its own. A single hashtag has the potential to create a movement or spark a revolution. Case in point, Kenya has been experiencing issues of women being stripped publicly because they are indecently dressed. After the first incident, Milimani Mums an online group started the hashtag #Mydressmychoice which culminated in to a protest on the streets of Nairobi. In cases like these, the hashtag sparks something and people take action. Some may argue that hashtag activism is not activism. eason being that people aggressively take up these hashtags tweeting and sharing them. But not all of them go out to the streets and protest.
R
Some tweet, move on to other things and forget what the cause was all about. So the question is, is hashtag activism effective, or is it just something people take up for their voices to be heard with no actions. In known to take down corporations. The international press has been known fort sensationalising stories from Africa. A simple thing like a fire will be reported as the biggest disaster to ever hit the continent. The #SomoenetellCNN hashtag was started by Kenyans after they spotted that CNN had made an error in reporting
about an explosion at one of the bus stops in Nairobi. The hashtag spread like wildfire and soon, the network was apologising and even pulled down the offensive material. However, the network it seems did not learn its lesson as just one year later a CNN journalist reported that Kenyans were in the bush preparing to fight if the elections did not go their way. Turns out the story was false and the network together with the reporter who filed the story faced the wrath of Kenyans on Twitter (KOT). Once again, the network had to apologise and run for the
hills with their tails between their legs. Social media is a powerful tool. When one starts a movement on social media and it gets shares from people, it builds momentum and the movement quickly escalates to something big. One click here and there, and everybody on the globe will be a participant, active or not. The rise of active hashtags has had many question whether traditional activism has been buried or if it has simply made it easier. One thing is clear that hashtag could as well be one’s life line, on line and offline.

hile women took to the streets to protest the stripping of fellow women perceived to be scantily dressed, Kenyatta University comrades took their war to social media showing a rare disagreement among students. The war started with a post on the Its Only in K.U. Facebook page, which urged women students to post their photos in their best choice attires to show off to the world. One Jared Ondieki termed the miniskirts useless and noted that men were ready to pull them down for the women to remain with undergarments only. The statement was immediately countered with several posts from the women.

Hard times ahead for striking comrades University students, who have disrupted learning and destroyed property over nonaccreditation of courses must work harder and prove that they are ready for the market. This is after Parliament this week voted in favour of a Bill giving the Commission for University Education powers to supervise higher learning. If President Uhuru Kenyatta signs to the Bill into law, CUE will accredit, inspect and approve the various degrees
offered by these institutions. Engineering students were the most affected, causing recent upheavals in Kenyatta, Nairobi, Kenya and Mombasa technical and Kimathi universities among others. The students accused Engineering Board of Kenya of prohibiting them from graduating citing inadequacies in content, recommending a repeat or disregard of some courses in whole.
KCA University students blocked from YouTube them to compete the few already there, give variety, while putting into practice the entrepreneurial skills they learn! SAKU has also lamented on the poor quality of food available in the available cafeterias, and they are demanding that it be given to someone else, who can improve the quality and food variety, but keeping prices constant through the week. ‘Chill zones’ are cool zones, they say. They want the institution to create these points all around campus for private study.
One comment termed Ondieki as ‘pathetic’ for saying that while another said he should be ashamed of himself. Anne Indoshi said: “Shame on you for saying that, mnunulie nguo kama unawashwa.” Arbunus Mutio asked the KU student to imitate the Embasava touts alleged to have carried out the offense and met it on their counterparts. Vincent Mwenda could not dance to the tune of his fellow men. Instead, he asked them to style-up while asking women to dress as they want. “…And the war went on and on but the oneness in throwing stones at police or vandalizing property during riots rested in a temporary grave.

Within the next few days, you’re likely to gain access to dimensions of perception you never suspected, Capricorn. Perhaps you will become aware of certain energy phenomena, peak experiences, or other highly sensitive states of consciousness. Don’t be frightened.
Often fiery temperaments like yours are drawn to fight for great causes despite the better judgment of more down-to-Earth people. As a result, you have great leadership potential that may emerge today. Your courage, enthusiasm, and vigor will be contagious when you climb onto your soapbox.
pisces Feb 19 - Mar 20
Your optimism is likely to receive a little boost today, Pisces. A memorable emotional encounter may be the source of some extra zeal. Or you may derive great satisfaction from being part of a group. The nagging chores of daily life will be forgotten for today at least.
Aries Mar 21 - Apr 19
You may have had some emotional disappointments lately, but today will restore your faith in love. All you need to do is take action. Your amazing lucidity and realism keep you from hoping for the impossible. You’d rather go to work to attain your goals than dilly-dally with illusions.
Put on your traveling shoes, Leo. Fear of the unknown may have prompted you to postpone certain trips. You claimed you were too busy, but no one really believed this, not even you. If an opportunity to travel presents itself today, don’t pass it up. It’s silly to avoid life.

Something is currently compelling you to be more of a world citizen than usual, Virgo. You may find this somewhat disturbing. You feel as though the roots of your identity, such as your family background and social standing, are dissolving little by little.
Your surroundings are currently changing, Libra. Perhaps your circle of friends has already undergone a major change. The fact is that you no longer have so many prejudices about the people you meet, and no longer seek only a certain type of person as a friend. You accept whoever comes along.

Perhaps you should suspend your inhibitions for the day, Aries, and let your dreams guide you. For instance, you might imagine that the need to make any choices has vanished. Or you might grant yourself a vacation from daily chores. It would certainly be a relief. Who knows?
This is the type of day you enjoy. The climate is positive and the energy is flowing. It’s as though you have a magic wand. You give it a wave and - presto - the day’s tasks and chores are done! By this evening, you’ve scarcely tapped your energy levels. Your family will be very happy to spend some quality time with you.

Things change when one night Burton has to go out but there is a job he is supposed to do. So instead he asks Flynne to do it, a job she did not know he had. The job involves testing a game, it seems to be simple and he is offering her good money to take over for him. Little does she know that she has gotten herself into a truckload of trouble. It looks like an innocent game, but it may also be murder. What to do?
Faithful should tame marauding church predators Kenyans must interrogate church ministers to tame rising cases of fraud in the name of God (State suspends churches’ registration Novembers 12, 2014). The predators are not foreigners and it only takes ordinary eyes to link the pulpit to their lofty lifestyles and wealth.
However, the lifestyles are usually a total contrast to that of their faithful. They live in luxurious apartments and drive four-wheel drive fuel guzzlers. Some of the well-established churches have offerings collected and planned for by church councils.
The councils determine what the minister requires for comfort and what requires to be set aside for development and other expenses. But a church without the slightest accountability mechanism must be rogue. For instance, the pastor is chairman, secretary, chief treasurer, accounting officer and
all other posts you may think of. In some cases, they pick those who will help them run church projects. This is the first selfish sign that the minister is not genuine servant of God and the people. After The Great Controversy, some democracy sneaked into
the church as faithful had chance to decide who will lead them. Why should someone hand-pick a leader if they are not liaising in looting? Government laws may not correct the situation if faithful cannot do it.

KBF Play offs begin this weekend
The Kenya Basketball Federation play offs will commence this weekend with the best-of-three quarterfinal games. Warriors and United States International UniversityAfrica (USIU-A) topped the men and women premier leagues, respectively in the 2014 regular season. Ulinzi finished with 58 points from 28 wins and two loses, just a point above defending champions Cooperative Bank, who won 27 games and lost three. Ulinzi are now prepared to reclaim the title they last won in 2006. William Balozi, the Ulinzi coach will be banking on consistency as they play Lions this weekend in the first game. “We worked really hard this season which was my main aim as the coach,” he said.
The coach added: “In the regular season, we were playing every team but for the playoffs it is one team. We have seen them play, we have their statistics and Ulinzi is ready for the battle.” USIU-A, last year’s losing finalist, ruled the women’s premier league with an iron hand. They have 43 points having won 21 games and lost once. In the playoffs quarterfinal, they will play Safe Spaces who finished eighth with 30 points from eight wins and 14 losses. Last weekend, USIU-A beat Strathmore University 82-33 in their last game while Safe Spaces lost 41-67 to Sprite Storms. Defending champions KPA came second with 42 points from 20 wins and two losses and play Ulinzi Blades. The soldiers were seventh with
31 points from 11 wins, 10 losses and one forfeited game. KPA won 49-19 against Mennonite and 97-22 over Western Delight in their last games over the weekend. The toughest matchup will be between fourth-placed Strathmore University and fifth-placed Co-operative Bank. Both teams tied on 36 points from 14 wins and eight losses but Strathmore came top after beating the bankers at home and away in the regular season. Playoffs, Quarter finals fixtures

Liverpool in trouble as Sturridge is injured again Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge has suffered a thigh injury while in training. The 25-year-old, who scored 25 times last season, has played just three Premier League games this term and only returned to full training last week. He suffered a thigh strain while with England in September, before picking
up a calf strain in training in October. Liverpool have won only four times in 14 matches without the former Chelsea and Manchester City forward and currently find themselves in 11th place. Brendan Rodgers’s side have scored just 14 league goals this season with strikers Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert failing
to find the net. Rodgers criticised England’s handling of Sturridge after he was originally ruled out for up to three weeks. Balotelli picked up a hamstring injury on international duty with Italy and may be a doubt for Liverpool’s next game against Crystal Palace on 23 November.

Duncan to romp first in Guru Nanak Ian Duncan navigated by Amaar Slatch in a Nissan Patrol will enjoy the privilege of being the first off the ramp in the 35th KCB Guru Nanak Rally which starts and ends in Naivasha on Sunday. Duncan who has won the Guru Nanak a record 11 times will be gunning for an unprecedented 12th crown and has absolutely nothing to lose as
the championship tussle has been narrowed down to a two horse race pitting Carl Tundo and tabletopper Baldev Chager. Second off the ramp will be Jassi Chatthe from Kisumu followed by Azar Anwar, Chager, Tundo, Rajbir Rai and Alastair Cavenagh. Cavenagh is determined to make amends and finish his first rally of the season. “Given that I have only
entered three events so far this year and finished none, I will be hoping for a clean run and a finish. On the flip side, the Proton has not been very kind to me and I am hoping for better fortune,” said Cavenagh. After losing a major sponsor earlier in the season, Duncan has tackled selected events in the 2014 KCB KNRC and is optimistic of performing well on the volcanic
ash soil stage. Duncan’s maiden win in the Guru Nanak was in 1986 with his namesake Ian Munro in an Opel Manta 400 and repeated the feat in the next three editions (1987, 1988 and 1989). In 1995, he won it for the fifth time with Dave Williamson in a Toyota Celica Turbo. Duncan then added four other
wins to the event’s roll of honour to make it 9 wins with Salim Haji after prevailing in a Toyota Land Cruiser pickup in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The 1994 WRC Safari Rally winner laid claim to his 10th and 11thGuru Nanak diadem in 2006 and 2007 co-driven by Amaar Slatch in a Toyota Hilux pickup.
Ex-Stars players start inter-county championships to scout for talent Ex-Harambee Stars players have launched a campaign dubbed Kanzu to scout for talent during an inter -County championship which kicks off on December 12, 2014. According to Josphat Murila, chairman of the initiative, the tournament is open to players aged between 18 and 23. The tournament will be open only to players who are not involved in any Football Kenya Federation (FKF) league. “We realize that some talents just go to waste after these
players have cleared high School but cannot get a club to play for,” explained Murila. Each of the 42 Counties will be allowed a slot each to enter their select ‘County team’ in the game whose draw is set to be conducted on December 4. “We will come up with the prize money and the venue for the finals as soon as we have confirmed the number of registered teams,” Murila said. Any county is free to bid to host the finals. “We know from experience that there
are many young talented players out there but are unable to join competitive clubs due to a few limitations here and there. It is these lost players that we are looking for.” Match venues and fixtures for the twoweek tournament will be announced in two weeks. The tournament will be taking place during off season, from November to January. Each team will be required to pay Sh100,000 for registration which sums up to a cool Sh4.2 million if all Counties register a team.

World Rugby officially replaces IRB The International Rugby Board (IRB), the global governing body for the 15-a-side code, officially changed its name to World Rugby with the unveiling of its logo and brand at the 2014 World Rugby Conference and Exhibition in London.
The brand, officials say, aims to deliver the federation’s mission to build a stronger connection with fans, players and commercial partners, “ultimately engaging new audiences worldwide.” The new visual identity is being rolled out across the federation’s
portfolio of digital properties, including the new worldrugby. org and @worldrugby platforms. It will make its event debut on match official jerseys this weekend. Bernard Lapasset, the World Rugby Chairman said: “Global Rugby participation has boomed by more

Woods incensed by parody interview in golf magazine Former world number one Tiger Woods has asked for an apology from veteran golf writer Dan Jenkins after being made the subject of a parody interview. Jenkins, who has covered golf for more than 60 years, wrote the spoof for Golf Digest, stating its fictitious nature. He ridiculed the 14-times major winner’s failed marriage and joked that the 38-year-old enjoyed firing people and disliked paying tips. Woods described it as a “grudge-fuelled piece of character assassination.” Jenkins, 84, who has reported on more than 200 majors, said he wrote the piece because he has never been granted an exclusive interview with Woods, who has not played since August because of injury. Woods countered: “I like to think I have a good sense of humour, and that I’m more than willing to laugh at myself. “Good-natured satire is one thing, but no fair-minded writer would put someone in the position of having to publicly deny that he mistreats his friends, takes pleasure in firing people and stiffs on tips - and a lot of other slurs, too.”

Nigeria crash out of AFCON 2015 Reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions Nigeria will not defend their title in Equatorial Guinea after failing to qualify from Group A. In Wednesday’s final round of matches, Nigeria were held 2-2 by South Africa in Uyo, meaning they finished outside of their group’s top two automatic qualification spots with eight points a total that also put them out of the running to be the best third-placed team. South Africa had already assured their place at the tournament, which will be played from January 17 to February 8, and only one spot is still outstanding. Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Mali and DR Congo all claimed their tickets to the continental showpiece after Wednesday results. Nigeria went into the game against South Africa with their fate in their own hands - win and they would claim second spot in the table and a place in the finals alongside group winners Bafana Bafana. Tokelo Rantie scored a goal either side of halftime to put the visitors firmly in control. Sone Aluko pulled a goal back on 68 minutes and Nigerian hopes were raised further when South Africa’s Renielwe Letsholonyane was sent off. In added time Aluko levelled the scores but it was too late for the home side and they once more miss out on playing in Equatorial Guinea, as they did when the country co-hosted the tournament in 2012. Instead, the runners-up spot in the table - and a place in the finals - was secured by Congo, who beat Sudan 1-0. Igor Nganga struck the only goal of the game after 63 minutes.
