Notorious US porn addict detained From Page 1 He was arrested at Olepolos in Ngong by Kenyan authorities after Interpol informed them of his pornographic activities on the internet. Operating as Babytoddler 123,

Krieger is accused of sexually abusing children mostly from his locality and sending their nude photos to his overseas accomplices. He had earlier told the court the obscene publications he circulated online were images of a child he

found on the Internet. Interpol had informed Kenyan authorities of the presence of a child abuser who was in constant web exchanges with others abroad, prompting the search and his subsequent arrest.

“This is a matter of child pornography where the suspect, who is an American, uses the Internet to share nude and obscene images of Kenyan children,” prosecutor Duncan Ondimu told the court earlier in the week.

Police say the victims are aged between three and 10 years. “The images circulated are of victims of sexual abuse committed by the suspect,” Interpol Germany said in their classified report to the Kenyan authorities.

Queen Elizabeth honours First World War heroes

IN LOVING MEMORY: Queen Elizabeth places a wreath at the Flanders Fields Memorial at Wellington Barracks in London November 6, 2014. Prince Harry meets with veterans at Westminster Abbey. The Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth II, King Philippe of Belgium and Duke of Cambridge. The Queen and Prince Harry were among royals attending remembrance events.

The commemoration of the First World War was on Thursday marked in style as Queen Elizabeth lay a wreath at the Flanders Fields Memorial Garden in Belgium. Accompanied by other dignitaries, the Queen honoured brave UK fallen soldiers in a specially created garden at Wellington Barracks in northern Belgium. Soils from the 70 battle fields and the war cemeteries in Flanders were collected and used to create the garden in memory of millions of solders who died in the war a century ago. Dignitaries at the event included Belgian King Philippe, Henri and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. CTV News reported that the garden bears emblems of the seven Guards Regiments, who led other soldiers in battle. Prince Harry laid a commemoration in front of two unidentified soldiers from the First and Second wars at the Field Of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, created in 1928. Two minutes of silence were observed while the Last Post was played.

LSK cautions lawyers over Police to probe besieged offensive social media posts pastor Kanyari for fraud The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) will take disciplinary action on lawyers who post unpleasant comments on social media. LSK Chief Executive Apollo Mboya said lawyers are bound by the International Bar Association (IBA) Principles on Social Media Conduct for the Legal Profession. He said the guidelines require lawyers to observe and exercise independence, integrity, responsibility, confidentiality and maintain public confidence when posing on social media. “With immediate effect, it is professional misconduct for lawyers to use any social media contrary to the IBA guidelines,” Mboya said in a statement to newsrooms. He said cases of lawyers committing acts

amounting to professional misconduct have been on the rise, especially through posts on Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. “Even the use of hypothetical questions or anonymous fact patterns may inadvertently reveal confidential information,” he said. The guidelines dictate that lawyers are required to monitor online and offline conduct, exercise restraint to ensure posted statements are true and not misleading. Mboya said IBA regulations require lawyers to consider client confidentiality when using social media. He said the guidelines provide that before entering into an online ‘relationship’, lawyers should reflect on the professional implications of being linked publicly.

Police will launch investigations into preacher Victor Kanyari’s conduct into widespread claims that he has been obtaining money from congregants under false pretense. Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko on Thursday said he has ordered for criminal investigations into Kanyari’s conduct to ascertain the claims, including cheating. “DPP orders Pst. Kanyari be probed 4 crimes of obtaining

by false pretences; cheating, etc after expose by KTN,” the office of the DPP posted on their official twitter handle. KTN last weekend ran an exposure that revealed cunning ways the preacher uses to lure church faithful to send him money in exchange of healings and miracles. The DPP’s order comes as another big blow to the preacher who faces divorce from gospel singer wife following the expose. He was uncovered faking

healing and sometimes coaching church members to stage-manage testimonies showing prayer induced prosperity. Even after admitting he faked testimonies, the preacher remained unapologetic over demands for worshippers to send money for prayers, saying he has never forced anyone to do so. In an interview with a local daily, he said “sowing seed” is widespread among Kenyan churches.

Kambi upbeat new policy will end child abuse The government says the National Children Policy could be the ultimate solution in protecting children against modern slavery practices such as early marriages and prostitution. Labour and Social Security and Services Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi told a gathering in Nairobi that the Policy which is awaiting parliamentary approval will enable his ministry to punish perpetrators. “The policy will create the necessary infrastructure to deal with children and protection services,” he told the meeting discussing modern slavery by the Walk Free Foundation. Once passed, the legal document is expected to create a special team of the police and government officers handling issues affecting the welfare of children. It is also expected to be budgeted for every financial year. Mr. Kambi admitted that children especially at the Coast are subjected to child prostitution, early marriages in some pastoralist communities and child labour in urban centres. The Walk Free Foundation started publishing the Global Slavery Index which lists the number of people estimated to be living under forced prostitution, child labour, human trafficking, forced marriages, domestic servitude and child sex tourism. Last year’s edition showed that 37,000 Kenyans were living in these conditions with a majority in domestic servitude and child prostitution. Mr. Kambi argued Kenya had responded well to the issue by placing the rights of children in the Constitution and other laws such as the CounterTrafficking in Persons Act (2010). Although the Counterterrorism Act has been operational since 2012, the government has admitted previously that it needs to be amended. The government also argued that it is collaborating with international partners to eliminate modern slavery after signing the UN Trafficking Protocol, Forced Labour Convention, Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention and the convention on inter-country adoptions.

The biggest fears among Kenyans include Aids and other diseases The biggest fears among Kenyans, South Africans and Ugandans are AIDS and other diseases. The biggest fear among the Japanese is nuclear weapons while inequality is the deepest concern for much of Europe and the US. These results are part of the Pew Research groups ‘Global Attitudes Project’, which included a survey of tens of thousands of people in 44 countries earlier this year. Prior to the Ebola pandemic, the survey asked people to choose among five categories of threat: AIDS and other diseases, nuclear weapons, pollution and environment, inequality, and religious and

ethnic hatred. By region, the Middle East saw religious and ethnic hatred as their biggest threat. Europe and the US saw the gap between the rich and poor as theirs. Meanwhile, pollution and environmental issues caused the most fear in Asia. Latin America mostly feared nuclear weapons while many Africans saw AIDS and other diseases as their greatest danger. Aside from Japan, the countries that saw nuclear weapons as their biggest danger included Russia Ukraine, Brazil, and Turkey. In the UK, India, Israel Lebanon, Malaysia and the Palestinian territories, the greatest concern was religious and ethnic hatred.

Slain officers’ folks to get Sh10m Families of slain police officers killed by bandits last weekend will receive Sh10 million each as compensation from the government, Inspector General David Kimaiyo revealed yesterday. Already, the government is supporting burial arrangement efforts being done by the respective families. The 19 officers attached to the Administration Police Unit were killed by bandits in Kapedo, Turkana County last weekend while on an operation to recover firearms and uniforms stolen from three GSU officers who were killed by cattle rustlers’ days earlier. “They died in the line of duty and as such, each of their families will be paid Sh10 million as compensation,” he said yesterday during a prayer mass for the officers. The police chief said they have already arrested ten suspects in relation to the incident and that several leaders are also being investigated over the matter. The latest killings are reminiscent of 2012 when suspected bandits killed another 40 police officers in

attacks on police officers. “It is totally unacceptable for members of the public to arm themselves and attack officers,” he said. “The attackers got it all

wrong in assuming that by committing this heinous act, they will break the determination and morale of the security officers to continue with this operation.

I want to assure them that to the contrary, our energies have been renewed and our resolve has grown stronger,” he added.

NPSC to appeal nullification of recruitment results The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) today announced its intention to appeal a High Court decision that nullified the recent recruitment of 10, 000 police officers. NPSC chairman Johnstone Kavuludi announced the decision at a

press conference in Westlands Nairobi today. This came even as a group of recruits affected by the court decision demanded compensation from the governmentThe youth from Kitui want to be compensated for the loss of their time and resources. They

argue that some of them left their jobs to join the force. As such, it will be a double loss if they are not compensated. “It is a total loss to our lives. We have been trying to reach the relevant offices but we are yet to be listened to,” said Joseph Kaviu, one of those

affected by the nullification of the recruitment. The youth say there were no malpractices in their recruitment centers and that it would be against natural justice for the court to collectively condemn all the recruits. Last week, the High court in Nairobi nullified the

July recruitment of about 10, 000 officers and ordered for a fresh drive in all the 289 centers where the listings had been held. High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola said that the completion of an audit indicated that the exercise was marred by irregularities.

Apple products hit by WireLurker malware Apple products, desktops and mobile operating systems have been hit by a new malware. The WireLurker is believed to have originated from China and has mainly affected Chinese users. The news comes a month after Apple’s iCloud storage service in China was attacked by hackers out to steal user information. WireLurker spreads through applications uploaded from thirdparty stores and can steal information stored in products and regularly requested updates from an attacker’s control server. It can transfer from Apple’s

Mac computer to mobile devices through a USB cable. Greatfire.org, a Chinese web monitoring group, said hackers managed to intercept data and may have gained access to passwords, messages, photos and contacts of users. They have accused Beijing of being behind the malware in order to gain access to citizens’ personal data. The government has denied the allegations. China is the world’s biggest smartphone market. Apple saw its iPhone sales in the country rise by 50 per cent in April to June quarter.

globewatch US City votes to increase tax on sugary beverages Beverages in the city of Berkeley are going to be more expensive after residents voted for increase in taxation on sugary drinks. The US city in California will add a tax of about Sh1,500 per Kg on sugary beverages. Passing of this regulation required only 50 per cent and it had already got two-thirds majority support from the counted votes. Health proponents of this increment, which is the first in the US, say it will help monitor diabetes and obesity. History More than 30 attempts to increase levies on these goods have previously failed in expensive court battles. Michael Roberts, a supporter of the increment, hopes more states will read from Berkley and follow soot. “What the soda industry is worried about is momentum, you win one and it makes it easier to win the next one and the next one,” said Roberts, an executive director of a local law school. But those aggrieved dismiss the move

as a sort of politically-based strategy. They further say it will not have much impact. “Berkeley doesn’t look like mainstream America. If politicians in the country want to stake their reputations on what Berkeley is doing, they will do so at their own risk,” said Christopher

Gindlesperger, a spokesman for the American Beverage Association. Implications Implementation of the taxation is likely to hike the price of the beverages targeted. Revenues of the investors in the sector are likely to dwindle as consumption is likely to slow down.

While Nairobi households spend about Sh748 monthly on wheat products, the wealthiest use about Sh1,155 and the poorest Sh404. Wheat and related products are the second largest food expenditure items in Nairobi, after dairy products. “Wheat consumption is growing in urban Kenya and expenditure surpasses that on maize in all but the poorest income homes,” said the experts. The research done in collaboration with Tegemeo Institute of Agricultural Policy and Development. Money spent on wheat products takes about three per cent of average salary of a Nairobi resident. The survey discovered that the average monthly income in Nairobi stands at Sh29,223. Although there are major variations in incomes, with some households raking in Sh6,000 a month and others Sh2,184,000 over the period, analysts found that poorer households spend higher portions of salary on food. “Food is not a luxury,” say the researchers. “It is an inferior good whose consumption decreases as income rises. The poor spend relatively more of income on food than the rich.”

They suggest that lowering the cost of food getting to poor people would be an efficient policy in the war on poverty and malnutrition.

Local investors to get top slots in development projects FRIday, NOVEMber 7, 2014

FIRST THINGS FIRST: Deputy President William Ruto meeting Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Najib Balala. The government will give priority to local investors in all development projects in the country.

VACANCY

The government will give local investors top priority in all development projects in the country, a move that seeks to ensure that exploitation of national natural resources by foreign companies is avoided. Speaking during the official opening of Geo-East Africa Conference and Expo (GEOEACE 2014), Deputy President, William Ruto said the constitution requires the government to accord Kenyan investors priority in exploitation and exploration of natural resources as long as they have the capacity to do so. “We expect you as Kenyan investors not to give us any reason to get foreign investors. You need to organize the necessary expertise and resources to exploit

our extractive industry or sector’s wealth,” he said. Ruto said the Jubilee Government has set aside Sh2 billion to increase economic growth through exploitation of resources to help the country achieve its Vision 2030 goals. He added that the recently approved Mining Bill will facilitate the establishment of a vibrant mining sector to avoid the pitfalls of other mineral rich countries where they have caused environmental degradation, conflict and socio-cultural decay. “I believe you are all aware that the Mining Bill was passed by Parliament on Tuesday last week. This is landmark legislation as it does away with laws dating back 70 years that still governed the mining sector,” he said.

One of the biggest challenges facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is the negative perception towards them, a study from the Kenya institute of Certified Accountants has revealed. Researchers Samuel Mureithi and Michael Bowen from Daystar University and Makarius Morara from finance-based organisation Smart Outcome Services Ltd have discovered that potential clients perceive small businesses as lacking the ability to provide quality services and are unable to carry out several projects at the same time. “Often larger companies are selected and given business for their clout in the industry and name recognition alone,” says the trio. The research implies that in order to boost customer confidence, small business owners need to prove to their clients that they are competent. They also need relevant skills within their areas.

STINGY DELIGHT: Bee farmers checking their hives. Bee keeping is a climate-resilient farming practice.

Farmer fights losses with drought-tolerant farming practices More frequent and severe droughts have created a pressing need for drought-tolerant crop varieties. So far, genetically engineered solutions aren’t delivering on their promises and some farmers in Kenya have opted to jump ship into alternative farming methods. Gabriel Mbatha Nzomo, from the arid Matungulu District of Machakos County is one such farmer who’s shielding himself from dry spells by embracing climate-resilient farming techniques like beekeeping. Mr. Nzomo grows crops, keeps livestock and rears poultry on a small-scale in his five-acre plot in Kyakatulu village, but today he primarily keeps bees because of the elusive rain patterns in his area. “We can only plant whenever it rains well. Sometimes we plant

once after three years,” he notes. Nzomo has 22 beehives . “I have a special machine for extracting honey without getting impurities and without damaging the honey combs,” he says. Through a program known as Kenya Arid and SemiArid Land (KASAL) project, Nzomo has been taught how to vaccinate his fowl against a deadly infection known as Newcastle disease. According to Dr. Ann Wachira, a KASAL Principal, Newcastle disease has no cure. The KASAL group has already trained 64 farmers in Eastern Province who serve as community based extension officers to ensure that all the chicken in the area are vaccinated at a cost of Sh5 per dose.

Owago Onyiro

is the next top comedian

FACTFILE

Owago Onyiro burst into the limelight last year and has been soaring high ever since. This year, the comedian went on a tour in the United States, covering eight states. With his popular slogans Ichieni and Ujaluo Itakuua, and lately Osemokeoliel, the comedian has made a name for himself in the laughter industry. X Access caught up with the funny man.

OMG

Who is Owago? Owago is God fearing and a go getter. I always go for what I want. But I put God first. Why comedy and how did you get into it? Comedy is inborn. You cannot learn to be funny. It started way back in Primary and it is a talent that I have had since then so doing comedy was a no brainer. I went for auditions with The Churchill Live producers and they kept telling me no. I did not give up and kept on going back. Finally they saw that I was consistent and I got picked up and had my first live show. The rest is history. How did the Ichieni slogan and Ujaluo Itakuua and osemokeoliel come about? I did not know the slogan would become such a huge thing. Ichieni was just an expression like any other (are you being haunted) and as we all know, Luos are Real Name: John Byron Otieno

Age: 26 stAtus: Single

Miss World Kenya and Miss Kenya share a stage Wednesday was a special day as Miss World Kenya and Miss Kenya shared a cup of tea. This was at a Savanna breakfast event held at the Sameer Business Park. The glitzy event was also graced by musician Suzzanna Owiyo, comedian Owago Nyiro and Chipukizee.

extravagant people so that is how ujaluo itakuua came about. The new slogan was coined after the very unfortunate Migori shoe throwing incident. Your jokes have at times been described as X-rated for TV, do you agree? Yes. I am the controversial comedian whose jokes are too hot for TV. Outside Kenya, comedy is big because people are not censored. When you are not censored you cannot run out of content. But in Kenya you have to factor in your jokes to be fit for family TV. That is not to say that I can not conform for the family, hehehehe. Are you still facing the challenges you faced while starting out? When I started out, nobody believed I could make it. They did not have faith in me that I could deliver. Now, when I meet Kenyans on the street, they stop and tell me to make them laugh. I believe that each day brings with it a new target, I am not yet where I want to be but I will get there. Maybe then, we can discuss my challenges? Who do you look up to in the industry? My mentors are Churchill and Jalang’o. I value their input in my work and I am always seeking advice from them on how to grow my craft. What do you think about where Kenyan comedy is at now? Comedy in Kenya has grown over the years. It can only get better. People

and audiences are appreciating this art and shows like Churchill Live continue to offer a platform for even more comedians to be discovered. How do you get inspiration for your jokes? I get inspiration for my jokes from things I experience and see every day. I always freestyle my script. If you cram your script and go before a Kenyan audience they will know and if somebody says something in the audience it can throw you off balance making you forget everything you crammed. Where do you see yourself in five years? I want to be remembered and to be involved in mentoring other upcoming comedians. Breaking the international mould and performing in different countries would be great. I also want to work on building the Owago brand, another Owago might come bigger and better than me so I need to utilise the time I have now. Are you and Jacky Vike dating? No. Jackie is my good friend and neighbour. People (media) saw us having fun at the WizKid concert and the next day I was shocked to read that we are dating. The media was forcing us to date, although I would not mind having her if she would have me! Anyway, I am single and freelancing, do you think my mother will read this part?

PSVs must support investment in high capacity buses Public Service Vehicles requesting for a halt to the planned city bus project should put the interests of Nairobians ahead of theirs. They should support the project because it will boost the economy by saving on time lost on our roads

(Kamau tell off PSVs over city bus project November 6, 2014). Transporters argue the high capacity buses will drive them out of business. This is a lie. The Ministry of Transport and the Nairobi county government have

asked matatu owners to unite and buy buses in their respective Saccos instead of the Government inviting outsiders. It is a new opportunity they must scramble for. The city’s rising population cannot be managed

without such big dreams. As more invest in the transport sector, there will be no parking space and traffic jams will ground the city. Dedicated lines will hasten movement and the buses will make

more trips in a 24-hour non-stop commuting. This gives you value for investment. It is unstoppable. Invest in the buses in order to enjoy your ride to the bank later.

Tundo to battle Chager for KCB Guru Nanak title The 35th KCB Guru Nanak will be held on November 23. Details of the route course will be unveiled by organisers in due course. Guru Nanak is the eighth and last round of the 2014KCB Kenya National Rally Championship. KNRC title race has is a two-horse race between Tundo and Baldev Chager. This is after Rajbir Rai marked his second win of the 2014 Kenya National

Rally Championship (KNRC) with victory in the penultimate round in Kisumu last month. Chager was lying second after the second stage but had his run cut short by a puncture at the third stage. Tundo settled for second place despite a frustrating run, while 60-year-old Azar Anwar sealed the podium in his ageing ex-Cavenagh Mitsubishi EVO8. Chager was fourth but retains his position at the

summit with 360 points, 40 ahead of second-placed Tundo. Chager will need to finish in the podium at Guru Nanak to win the championship. “The Kisumu event was frustrating for us. We picked two punctures along the way and I think we let the car down,” said Tundo. “It’s down to the wire in two weeks’ time. We’ve been here before, we can do it again,” said Tundo.

IN ACTION: Baldev Chager in a past rally. He will be fighting Carl ‘Flash’ Tundo for the KCB Guru Nanak title on November 23.

Button to wind up F1 career in Abu Dhabi race

TOUGH GUNS: Homeboyz Rugby players celebrate winning the Thika rugby contest. The team will be taking on Impala when the Kenya Cup gets underway this weekend.

Homeboyz, Impala clash kicks off New Kenya season

The New Kenya Cup season gets underway at the weekend with the first Friday night fixture between Resolution Impala Saracens and Homeboyz at Impala Club. Matches on Friday night were factored in after clubs requested for some of the fixtures to be played on the day. Impala is the only venue with matchready floodlits. Other matches are likely to be played at the venue in a ground-breaking move. Defending champions Top Fry Nakuru will begin their Kenya Cup defence at home against debutants Catholic

University Monks. This is one of the seven matches to be played on the opening day of the 2014/15 season. Other matches will see last season’s runners up Kenya Commercial Bank host entrants Kabras Sugar. Pan Africa Strathmore University will open the campaign away against Mombasa Sports Club. Homeboyz will get their league campaign underway against Mean Machine at RFUEA ground. This will pave way for a clash between Lunch Bar Quins and Blak Blad.

Jenson Button’s 15-year Formula One career will end at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi on November 23. McLaren will bring in double world champion Fernando Alonso to replace the Briton with an announcement imminent. McLaren opened preliminary talks with Alonso, generally considered the sport’s most complete driver, a year ago and revived their interest when it became apparent that Sebastian Vettel was about to replace the Spaniard at Ferrari. Button, 34, flew into Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday for this weekend’s penultimate race of the season, has said he does not want to move to a lesser team to prolong a career that has yielded 15 victories. He has raced in 264 grands prix, more than any

contemporary. Button’s first victory came at the 113th attempt, in Hungary in 2006, and he won the world title with Brawn in 2009 before moving to McLaren. There, he embellished his reputation as a formidable talent, particularly in the wet. He briefly considered whether to stop racing at the start of this season after the death of his father John. He has since worn a pink helmet to recall the colour of the shirt John wore on race days. Button may now follow his friend Mark Webber, the former Red Bull driver, into sports cars and the Le Mans-style World Endurance Championship. Button’s manager Richard Goddard said recently: ‘Jenson is too good to sit at the back of the grid, so if McLaren haven’t got a seat for him, he would look elsewhere.’

Sociedad weigh Moyes hiring option Real Sociedad have confirmed they have spoken to former Manchester United boss David Moyes about a managerial vacancy. Moyes has been without a job since he was sacked at Old Trafford four matches before the end of the 2013/14 Premier League campaign. Sociedad are on the lookout for a replacement for Jagoba Arrasate who was sacked at the

start of the month. Txuriurdin chairman Jokin Aperribay has confirmed that Moyes is one of the options the club is considering. “It’s true about Mel, it’s true about Moyes, but we’re also talking with more managers and maybe there will be more than that,” he said. “We are talking with all that are on the shortlist and we want them to know how we operate,

giving them knowledge of Real Sociedad, from the respect, to the philosophy and the youth academy. “We really like the four, each with their own style, and there are some things that we really like a lot about them.” Prior to Moyes’ failed stay at United, the 51-year-old spent more than a decade at the helm of Everton.

FRIday, NOVEMber 7, 2014

Toure, Fernandinho apologise to City fans after red Yaya Toure and Fernandinho both issued apologies to Manchester City fans after they were each sent off during their dismal Champions League home defeat to CSKA Moscow. City were left on the brink of elimination after both were dismissed in the second half as the Premier League champions again crumbled on the European stage, losing 2-1 on a miserable night at the Etihad Stadium. The result left them bottom of Group E with just two points from four games. City will now go out of the competition if they fail to beat Bayern Munich on matchday five and there is a winner in the game between CSKA and Roma. City were stunned in the second minute as Seydou Doumbia, who inspired CSKA’s comeback from 2-0 down to draw against City a fortnight ago, headed the opener.

Toure curled in a superb free kick to equalise soon after but Doumbia capitalised on poor defending to restore the Russians’ lead before the break. It was his fifth goal in four matches against City over the past year. City again lacked spark, as they have for much of the season so far, and their hopes of a fightback evaporated after the dismissals. Fernandinho received a second booking for blocking Ahmed Musa and Toure gave the referee little option as he raised his hands to push away Roman Eremenko. Sergio Aguero was aggrieved not to be awarded two penalties late in the game while City could also claim CSKA’s Pontus Wernbloom should have been sent off. The Swede had already been booked when the referee whistled for his apparent foul on Aguero, but the yellow card shown in the chaotic aftermath was to Sergei Ignashevich.

Nakuru: we can make immediate return It took Nakuru All Stars 40 years to play in the Kenyan Premier League after relegation, their short stay was sadly for a single season as they head back to the lower tier. Their short stint in the elite league will be summed by three wins with the biggest being a shock 2-0 win over reigning champions Gor Mahia. Ahead of the clubs formal match against KCB in Nairobi on Saturday club Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi is calling on the team to put one last show aiming to exit on the high. “Sadly the match has nothing to do with our fate, it was decided a long time ago, we simply need to play well and possibly get a results,” he said. “Currently we are thinking about life in the lower tier, our desire is to keep our players with the target being making an immediate return to KPL,” He continued. Perhaps one of the underlining factors to the team’s poor show was internal issues. They have changed coaches several times as they tried to fix the

technical problems but in vain. Muthomi now says that was a learning process and they will go to the lower league smarter and more experienced than they came into the league. “We have a very young squad that at

times showed they can match some of the big boys, but in the end, our inexperience failed us. We all need stability in the technical bench, we have to get that addressed,” he said.

SHORT STINT: John “Softie” Ndirangu of Nakuru All Stars (2nd right) tussles for the ball in a KPL match. All Stars made their return to the KPL after 40 years this season and are headed back to the lower tier after relegation.

RED: Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure (C) is sent off after pushing Roman Eremenko. He scored a peach of a free-kick to draw the home side level and was City’s most threatening player before he needlessly lashed out and was shown a straight red.

Ministry of Information netball team to represent Kenya in US tourney The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MOIC) will represent Kenya in the World Club championships slated for November 17th-26th in Miami, Florida in the USA. The two time Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) Super One league champions MOIC, which was placed third in the last World Club championships held in South Africa will send a contingent of ten players and five officials who will jet out on November 15th. The team under the tutelage of the KNF Fixtures secretary Millicent Busolo comprises of seven national team players including captain Catherine Abwao,

assisted by Parin Simiyu, Joan Matingi, Linah Tarus, Caroline Achieng’, Grace Etyang and Cynthia Wanyama a sister to Harambee Stars skipper the UK based Victor Wanyama. Others in the team that finished second in the Africa Club Championships are Nancy Akinyi, Susan Wanambisi, Pauline Ramadhan together with the team manager Anne Bett deputized by Stellamaris Muthama, Moustapha Ramadhan (physiotherapist) and patron Elizabeth Mambo. Busolo said South Africa and Uganda were the other only teams to have been invited for the tournament.

K’Ogalo seek to banish 2012 league demons Two years ago, less than 48 hours to the final match of the season, Gor Mahia players did not train. The players and the entire technical bench spent the day at the Roselyn International School where they had fun time swimming and having barbecue. Main man then was Zdravko Logarusic remember him? After treating his players the then coach was quoted saying that this move was aimed at easing the pressure on the players before the crucial match against Thika United. Gor needed a win against Thika to clinch the 2012 Tusker Premier League. To cut the chase that much needed win, the most important in the club history never materialised. Instead outsiders Tusker retained the title. Fast forward, two years later, the reigning champions, Gor are more or the same in a peculiar situation. They need victory tomorrow to retain their crown when they play Kenya Revenue Authority KRA at Moi stadium in Kisumu. Sofapaka play Tusker at the Ruaraka

stadium needing a win and hoping KRA will hold Gor for them to win the 2014 tile. A single point separates the two teams. The team under the tutelage Briton Frank Nuttall, a man who came in for title winning coach Bobby Williamson in September after the former got a bigger’ calling as the National team head coach surely must win on Saturday. Going to Saturday season finale, Gor Mahia and Sofapaka all having realistic hopes of lifting the title after they both won their respective league matches last weekend. Nuttall’s charges who are chasing a record 14th domestic top flight title hit Muhoroni Youth 3-1 in Kisumu. Batoto Ba Mungu also managed AFC Leopards 2-1 in Mumias. “Attention is on our final game where all our focus is. The boys are playing good football and hope they can continue with the same tempo in our final match and get the job they started well done,” Nuttall said. “In such matches there is no room for errors, the stakes are high for my players and the loyal fans,” he said.

Berahino gets call up to England squad West Brom striker Saido Berahino has been named in the England squad for the first time by manager Roy Hodgson. Berahino, who was born in Burundi, has scored seven goals in 10 Premier League

matches for the Baggies this season. Michael Carrick, Stewart Downing and Theo Walcott are also included in a 26-man squad for the Slovenia game and a friendly in Scotland on 18 November.
