Sacked PCEA head insists devil worship rife in church A former moderator of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA,) Dr David Gathii, claims the church leaders have victimised him for his stance on homosexuality and devil worship in the church.

Fired PCEA head blames rivals From Page 1

He also claims that he has been blamed for the church’s diminishing funding from the USA church because of his open dissent to homosexuality during a 2004 General Assembly in US. “In the meeting, I was told to support same sex marriages because a lot had already been spent to bring me to US. I refused. Upon my return the church leaders said I am frustrating the USA funding,” says Gathii. Gathii said when he was at the helm

of leadership he defrocked many ministers who were in favour of devil worship and homosexuality. He says he is not destroying the church because of dissatisfaction by giving dissenting opinions .He asked followers to listen to God’s voice. “I ask the people who believe in God to listen to God. I have listened to God,” he says. The PCEA church defrocked Gathii for claiming the church has entrenched in devil worship since

1990’s while homosexuality has been rife since 2001. In a joint statement by the church’s top decision making body, which was read by moderator David Gathanju yesterday, the church announced that Gathii has been stripped of the title of Reverend and directed that he surrenders church vestments. “The Kajiado Presbytery defrocked him as per the procedure of the church. The church had already received his resignation letter and decided to let him go. We have

endorsed his defrocking,” the Rev Gathanju said. PCEA on Thursday maintained that Gathii’s assertions are a dissatisfaction and his opinions, saying anybody found engaging in the vices would be expelled. “We are aware that Dr Gathii made several assertions in regard to what he termed ‘satanic symbols’ in our church and even government institutions. These are his personal opinions that the church found to have no biblical or theological basis.” The church said Gathii has never

lodged these allegations in the general assemblies. This is not the first time the former moderator is making claims of devil worship. After his installation in 2003 as the church moderator, he led the destruction of freemasonry symbols, which he claimed were a manifestation of devil worship at St Andrews Church, Nairobi, in 2004. He also changed the church’s mode of worship to become what he claimed as “more agreeable to the modern Christian community”.

Tension in Mombasa as state fails to name Makaburi killer Tension remains high in Mombasa following the lapse of a three day ultimatum to the government to expose the killers of preacher Abubakar Shariff aka Makaburi with youth threatening protest marches after today’s prayers. This comes even as the police and Muslim leaders warned the youths against carrying out any demonstrations or retaliatory attacks to avenge the cleric’s death.

Mombasa County Police Commander Robert Kitur has restated that police are ready to deal with any protesters saying security has already been tightened. But the youths have vowed to stage mass protests if the government does not disclose the killers of the radical preacher. Narrow escape for 3 city thugs

TIGER POWER Conrad Njeru Karukenya, arguably the strongest man in Kenya and popularly known as Tiger Power, has said that he aims to promote education among the younger members of society. The 68-year old powerhouse is studying Early Childhood Education at the Kenyatta University in order to fulfil his goal. “My next project is to work with children, to help them tap and nurture their talents from an early age,” says the man who is famous for breaking iron nails with his teeth, lifting heavy crates of beer and surviving an 2.1 tonne ox-cart running over his back. “The problem with our education system is that we focus too much on academics and forget that every child has a talent or special ability that can benefit them later,” explains Karukenya.

A robbery incident in the Pipeline area of Embakasi in Nairobi this morning nearly turned tragic after one of the three thieves shot in the air as he escaped on a motorbike. The 9am incident occurred after three armed men stormed an M-Pesa shop, which also doubles up as a barbershop, and ordered everyone to lie. “They took the money, while pointing guns at them. They took money from the M-pesa and barber shops,’’ the witness said. But the gang failed to lock the door behind them as victims screamed for help. One thug whipped out a gun and shot in the air to ward off a surging crowd that bayed for his blood. It was his lucky day. The mob pulled back, allowing him to speed off as his accomplices scattered on foot.

SA in ‘perfumed’condom strategy to attract youth South African government has launched a programme to supply condoms in different colours and scent to attract the youth. The condoms will be supplied for free in high schools and other institutions of learning as a way of encouraging the youth to continue using them. The country’s health ministry launched the programme after research that showed a drop in the use of condoms. “We want to refresh the way we provide condoms to make ensure the packaging attracts young people,” said health department spokesman Joe Maila. The research showed that condoms supplied by the government were not attractive to the youth. About 6.4 million people in South Africa are HIV carriers, the highest number in the world. A government funded study shows a 12.2% rise in HIV prevalence rate. About 2million people live under ARVs with some groups warning of a shortage of ARVs in most clinics.

Protection geAr: South African researchers say there has been a marked decline in the use of the gadgets among the youth as the country grappes with the highest HiV/Aids infection rate in the world.

President back from Belgium President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Nairobi late last night after his official visit to Brussels, Belgium, where he attended the 4th Africa-European Union Summit. On the sidelines of the Brussels conference, President Kenyatta held talks with Presidents Francois Hollande of France and his Ugandan colleague Yoweri Museveni. The plane carrying the president and his entourage touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 11pm. The official visit to Belgium had earlier threatened to spark off a diplomatic row after his chief security aide was denied a visa. Belgian Ambassador to Kenya Bart Ourvy was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he delivered the visa to the Commandant of the Presidential Escort after the Kenyan delegation threatened to call off the trip. On arrival at the airport, the President was received by Deputy President William Ruto and other senior government officials.

Belgian leader asks Africa respect to respect gay rights The debate on gays is alive again after Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo told African leaders to respect the rights of minorities, including homosexuals. Di Rupo, who is also gay, told the African heads of state, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ugan-

da’s Yoweri Museveni and Nigeria’s Godluck Jonathan that harsh laws condemning gays are intolerable. “It was intolerable that people were persecuted for their origins, their sexual orientation, their religion and their convictions,” he said.

He was addressing African and European leaders at the EU-Africa summit in Brussels. Nigeria and Uganda have toughened anti-gay laws. Homosexual acts are illegal in most African countries, where homosexuality is often seen as “evil” and “abnormal”.

Although the constitution has banned the practice, the government recently said it will not adopt radical approaches on the matter. Mr Di Rupo is Europe’s second openly gay government leader after Iceland Prime Minister Johanna

Sigurdardottir. “We cannot tolerate that some are denied their rights and persecuted for their origins, their sexual orientation, their religion and their convictions,” Di Rupo told the summit discussing ways to strengthen relations between EU and Africa.

Presidents Museveni and Jonathan have not responded to the comments. Uganda has defended tougher anti-gay law, saying Museveni wants “to demonstrate Uganda’s independence in the face of Western pressure and provocation”.

Police wage war on PSVs flouting new traffic rules Police in Nairobi are reported to be cracking down on matatus over the new traffic regulations even after the court allowed operators until next to comply with the rules. High Court judge George Odunga suspended the implementation of the new rules up to April 7 when the court is expected to give the way forward on the matter. “It is important that all parties be given a hearing taking into account the situation on the ground. The order is in force until April 7 when this court will give further orders,” said Justice Odunga. The order was thought to have provided a relief for matatu owners. But police are reportedly impounding vehicles that have not complied with the regulations. On the busy South B-city centre route, less than 5 vehicles are reported to be on the road due to police inspections. “We are suffering because of contradictions between Engineer Kamau and the court,” Victor Oswayo, a matatu owner from South B told XNews. “The courts have given us until next week but Egineer Kamau insists only compliant matatus should be on the road. That is why police are barring us from operating,” he said. The digital speed governor will allow vehicles not to be driven at break-neck speed that have endangered many lives on the highways.

Low cadre state staff pay faces c The on-going debate on the country’s wage bill may affect earnings of low cadre state staff as the government considers a review of the minimum wage. Labour Principal Secretary Ali Noor told journalists on Friday that the ministry will review minimum wages as the government seeks to lower the salary burden on Kenyans. President Uhuru Kenyatta last year ordered an increase in the minimum wage by 14 per cent to the chagrin of private sector employers. And speaking on Friday during government ministries briefings at the Office of the President, Mr Noor said reviewing the minimum wage is ongoing. “Critical to this review will be the rising wage bill which will determine the outcome,” he said.

Guinea Ebola death toll hits 84 The death toll from an Ebola outbreak in Guinea has risen to 84 with dozens more ill, humanitarian workers have said. The deaths are among the 131 cases reported by the World Health Organisation. The outbreak has “rapidly evolved” since originating in the forests of southeastern Guinea. The city of Guekedou, near the border with Sierra Leone and Liberia, has seen 79 cases, 57 of them fatal. Another four were in the capital, Conakry. In Liberia, one Ebola death has been confirmed and six more are suspected. Sierra Leone is investigating at least two deaths. The aid organisation Doctors Without Borders has called the outbreak unprecedented because previous cases have been limited to a small area. It’s the first emergence of Ebola in western Africa, and WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic has said the UN agency is trying to track people who had encountered the victims. “What is important is to inform the population of Guinea and Conakry about this disease, as this is the first time they are facing Ebola. They need to know what it is and how they can protect themselves.”

County rep seeks sex workers’ ban from CBD Sex workers in Nairobi could be driven out of the Central Business District (CBD) if the County Assembly members agree on a motion seeking to ban them. Kibra member of the assembly Jane Muasya has tabled a Bill to ban the sex workers from CBD. Members have agreed to debate it after their two week recess. Ms Muasya says prostitution is a vice that must be eradicated. Article 154 of the constitution outlaws prostitution and states that anyone found practising it is guilty of a felony. The move to ban the workers may leave up to 7,000 sex workers jobless. A recent study has also linked the prostitutes to majority of HIV infections. Earlier last month, the UN pushed for the decriminalisation of prostitution. The body called for legal protection for effective war on HIV/ Aids. In 2012, The World Health Organisation made a similar proposal and asked police to stop harassing prostitutes and instead allow them to operate from public places for effective war on HIV/Aids.

Woman sets herself on fire in food protest A Syrian woman has shocked the world by setting herself ablaze in protest after her family was denied food aid in Lebanon. Mariam Khaowleh, a woman in her 40s and a mother of four is said to have reported an a refugee registration center in Tripoli, Lebanon to appeal her family’s exclusion from receiving food aid from the World Food Program where she is said to have exchanged a few words with someone before dousing herself in gasoline. “And within seconds she went up in flames,”

witnesses said. She is among the more than one million refugees who have fled to Lebanon as the crisis in Syrian grinds on. However, Mariam and her four children aged between 13 and 22 were excluded from receiving food aid by the UNHCR and World Food Programme after a vulnerability assessment was conducted. The conclusion was that around 30 percent of refugees can meet their own needs hence a targeted aid campaign which left out Mariam and her family.

And since then, she has made repeated visits to Tripoli to appeal the exclusion to no success. “I went to them over and over, I said you must have made a mistake,” she told CNN adding “They lied to me, they mocked me, they shouted at me, get out of here.” The woman said her children were getting dizzy from lack of food and that she could not withstand the sight. “One said I can’t lift my head, the other said I can’t move my legs” she recalled while speaking through intercom at a

hospital in Tripoli. And so I went to them and said if you don’t give me anything where am I going to get it from? I am going to set myself on fire, how am I going to feed my children? “I chose death rather than seeing my children die a million times in front of me,” she adds. She however asked for forgiveness. “My heart burns for my children. I hope that God forgives me, I want my voice to reach all the mothers, each person who has a conscience,” she pleads.

Rivals to clip Cotu role in Labour Day celebrations The row between the Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) and a newly formed Federation of Public Service Trade Unions of Kenya (Pusetu) is set to escalate after the latter claimed it will host this year’s Labour Day celebrations. Pusetu Secretary General Charles Mukhwaya has told news reporters that they will organise and moderate at the annual fete. Cotu through Secretary General Francis Atwoli (above) has in the past accused the new union of being used by the government to weaken the voice of workers. The mandate of organizing the celebrations has always been Cotu’s as the major union that represents workers. “Given that Pusetu represent a majority of workers is now here, it will take up that role,” he said. The plans are expected to draw sharp reactions from Cotu which has traditionally been known to be the umbrella union for all Kenyan workers. But Mukhwaya says the position changed after the formation of Pusetu which is set to take up roles previously undertaken by Cotu. He said the new federation set to be officially launched next week Tuesday is registered and officially recognised by the government.

Boeing plans to sack 300 fixed contract employees in Australia Boeing has said it will cut 300 jobs in Australia. Fixed-term contractors will be mainly affected by the plan as the aerospace giant seeks to mature in the country. A statement from the aircraft’s manufacturer’s spokeswoman, Caroline Bell, said the plan will be implemented once the company resumes full production. The sackings will be done by the end of the year. The Australian unit is Boeing’s largest manufacturing operation outside North America. History The Australian’s manufacturing sector has suffered in recent weeks. Other companies

have also announced that they will shut down operations in the country. On Wednesday, oil giant BP said it would shut down one of its refineries and cut more than 300 staff by 2015. Tobacco Company, Philip Morris, informed 180 workers that they will lose jobs after announcing it will move production to Korea. The Australian market’s isolation combined with the strength of the dollar and high production costs have made locally-made products uncompetitive in the gobal market. Implications Craig Kelly, the Australian Manufacturing

Workers’ Union acting state secretary, said he was concerned over the job cuts at Boeing and lack of jobs in Victoria, Australia. The Australian Bureau of Statistics data released on Thursday show there were only 25,400 vacant jobs in Victoria in February. The figure shows 5000 fewer jobs available compared with November last year. The state has the highest number of people looking for work in mainland Australia. “In Victoria if you lost a job and had those sort of skills you would generally be able to get into another job elsewhere,” said Kelly. “But we’re concerned for the people exiting the business about whether they will get another job.”

About five million Kenyans are out of the financial services system, a survey by FinAccess, a research group that deals with economic information, reveals. Their study shows that more than a 25 per cent of the 18.5 million eligible Kenyans are excluded from any form of financial services. In 2013, more than 12.4 million Kenyans, an equivalent of 66.7 per cent of the adult population, visited commercial banks to make deposits or borrow cash. Another 1.4 million Kenyans rely on sharks and friends for loans. A similar survey by research group, Financial Sector Deepening (FSD), shows that women and youth, mostly from rural areas, prefer to get cash from loan sharks after shying away from the formal banking system due to prohibitive barriers. The high rates charged by commercial banks has been the biggest barrier for many Kenyans. Although the Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee has kept a base-lending rate of 8.5 per cent for close to a year, some banks are charging as high as 17 per cent for loans. Head of Knowledge at FSD Kenya, Dr Amrik Heyer, says more women are excluded from the financial services than men. More than 26.6 per cent women do not access any form of financial services. “This is higher compared to 24.2 per cent of men who are locked out from the systems,” he says. Women mainly borrow from sharks to fund small businesses or farming projects.

Old Mutual buys stake in Faulu Investment firm, Old Mutual and Faulu Microfinance Bank have announced a strategic partnership aimed at giving Kenyans access to cheaper loans. The Sh3.6 billion agreement, which involves Faulu selling a controlling stake of its assets to Old Mutual, will give Kenyans, especially those venturing into small businesses, access to loans from a number of the lender’s new branches to be opened across the country. “Old Mutual, as a strategic partner to our business, brings a host of benefits not only to our customers who will now be able to access cheaper loans and more Faulu branches, but also to our staff, and the unemployed youth. The multiplier effect on the economy cannot be underscored,” Faulu Managing Director John Mwara said. “The Sh3.6 billion injection will enable Faulu to take its products to more Kenyans. We pursued this partnership driven by our commitment to our motto “wakenya Tufaulu” as our dream is to have all Kenyans enjoy dignified lives.” Faulu is the pioneer microfinance company in Kenya with more than 100 outlets with 32 banking branches in 44 counties. The lender currently has 400,000 active customers and offers both credit, savings and other micro-insurance products to suit customers with unique financial needs. “This deal further demonstrates how committed we are to growing our business in Kenya and East Africa,” said Old Mutual Kenya CEO Rueben Java.

Credit scoring can help SMEs access loans l Only about 20 per cent of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs)in Kenya have ever received a loan from any formal financial institutions, a study by a finance research group, Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Kenya says. l According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, there are about 7.5 million SMEs in Kenya providing an estimated 80 per cent of the country’s employment and contributing over 92 per cent of the new jobs created annually. However, FSD says SMEs lack access to loans because lenders have a hard time assessing the risks involved in running a small or medium-sized business. FSD shows that lenders address this risk-assessment problem either by not lending to SMEs at all or by requiring collateral and charging high interest rates.

EXPANSION: Old Mutual and Faulu have signed a Sh3.7 billion partnership deal.

citymarkets Night travel ban hurts Kariakor curio dealers Business is low for the Kariakor market curio sellers and they have blamed the ban of night travel for their woes. Speaking to XNews today morning at the market, most of the sellers said their sales have been adversely affected since the night travel ban come into effect. Japhet Otieno, a leather sandal marker and seller, said his clients used to travel at the night and arrive in Nairobi in the morning to make their purchases and return on the same day. Now they spend two days travelling which has led to a drop in sales. “Most of my clients used to travel from as far as Mombasa and Kisumu among other towns and go back the same day. Nowadays that is not the case as they are now forced to travel during the day only,” said Otieno. His sentiments were echoed by Mary Munene who makes and sales baskets. She said they used to open their businesses at 4am till 10pm since they have now reduced their opening hours by over six hours due to lack of customers. “We used to open our business early and sale till late hours. Some even stayed open for 24 hours because our clients would come any time. Travelling was not an issue as it is now,” said Munene. Duke Yego a necklace maker and seller said the sales have declined in relation to the poor economy which has hit the country making life hard for the citizens.

l High-income countries such as the US have addressed this challenge by

using a system known as credit scoring, which allows them to estimate whether or not a lender can recover a loan from a small business. l FSD says larger lenders like commercial banks are developing their own credit scoring system but argues that smaller lenders will be able to lend to SMEs with fewer collateral requirements and lower interest rates once the credit bureaus begin providing generic credit-risk scores. l In light of these challenges, GroFin, a financier that assists entrepreneurs and business owners to access loans, doesn’t ask for collateral. Instead, the group, which is spearheading the credit score card initiative, determines a business’s viability and the potential of the managers to grow the enterprise. GroFin invests in enterprises that have less than 150 employees, with gross assets of less than $15 million (Sh1.3 billion).

Eye shadows to match complexion

Medium Greys These makes the eyes pop. These shades can be used to create sexy smoky-eyes look, adding a touch of shimmer will enhance it even more. Deep Purples They show off a light and fun side of somebody without creating an overthe-top look. Low-Key Pinks These consists of a mixture of dark pinks like mauve and medium browns. The pinks in these shades create a warm and feminine appearance. Dark Coppers These colours complement deep complexions. They draw attention to the eyes and it will also help create a warm healthy glow. Avoid these: White It does not look good on anyone even on those who have lighter complexions. When white eye shadow is put on dark skin, one looks like a clown. Earth Tone They bring out a washed-out effect that fails to highlight the natural beauty of the complexion. Light Grays and Silvers Light grays and silvers only make women with dark complexions look SHADES: Eye shadow is available in like disco dancers. Stay away. Eye shadow highlights the eyes but getting the shade that flatters the dark skin tone can be a pain. Here are a few tips to help through the challenging process.

Acquire your own signature scent sweet smell: A lady tests a perfume scent.

Everyone has a unique scent. In the book Neurobiology of Sensation and Reward, edited by Jay A. Gottfried it is suggested that the scented human body has biological significance when it comes to partner selection. The appeal of perfume is that it is an invisible glow that lingers in a room long after its wearer has gone and stays in our imagination reminding us of that one memory. Smelling good all the time is an

art that only the special few have mastered because many find it difficult to layer the different scents they use daily from bathing soap to shampoo, from body lotion to deodorant. With every product used comes a different scent thus one will end up smelling like a big baskets of different flowers, which can be horrible. That is where layering of scents comes in. One has to find soap that compliments the perfume that they

will wear if the perfume does not come with a coordinating soap. Every woman loves a good shampoo, one that smells fruity and makes the hair shine but they should take into consideration their perfume’s scent first before buying shampoo. If the perfume is strong then opt for a light hair scent to avoid clashing the scents. With body lotions, most perfumes offer coordinating scented lotions.

A study shows that six out of ninemen love it when women wear eye makeup. “I don’t know if it is called eye shadow but I like its effect on women. It gives them a fierce but sexy and elegant look, “said Martin Obiero. Eye shadow comes in an array of forms, colours and textures. It exists in form of powder (compact and loose) and cream. To get all that chic and glamour, 1 Mac eye shadow. 2 Mary kay eye shadow. 3 Black Opal eye shadow.

motorhunter Curtain Airbags for side crashes

Curtain airbags are designed to protect the driver’s and passenger’s heads in a crash. They are a variation of the frontal airbags, which help in side-impact protection.

The curtain airbags activatepromptly in the occurrence of a side impact crash, deploying from the top of the door rails above the side window. They form a cushion between the driver or pas-

senger and the window and stay in place if the car rolls over to protect their head. Many deaths have been eminent from side crashes since there is little to protect the head against

stationary objects like trees or poles. There are other types of airbags where head and torso are combined. However, they have been found to be less effective when a car rolls over.

Mugging by boda guys Friday night, 9:30pm. Three boda guys drove past me, and then pretended their boda had a problem, and stopped to fix it. When I walked past, I was mugged. They were pros, had a gun, happened very quickly. — Sam.

A fit of anger after an incident of road rage almost earned James Munene a date with the magistrate, where he would have been made to explain why he shattered the headlight of Patrick Mosioma’s car along Kangundo road. Mosioma drove into the back of Munene’s two-month old Nissan Wingroad, leaving an unsightly dent. Mosioma’s Toyota Hilux Surf only picked a paint peel. However, Munene opted to let his anger out physically, and using a wheel-spanner repeatedly hit at the Wingroad’s right headlight. A shocked Mosioma, aided by passers-by managed to pull the fuming Munene away from the car before he could cause more damage. Police arrived on the scene a few minutes later, their entry informed by the snarl-up that the incident had caused. However, their mediatory ability was not used in resolving the issue, as Munene, whose nerves had calmed after a cigarette puff, offered to repair both cars. Thankfully, for him, Mosioma took up the offer and after signing an agreement, in front of the policemen, they each drove their own ways.

Kamau upbeat as he axes 10 in age fiasco Kenya U-20 football coach John Kamau is confident the team will do well in Sunday’s African Junior Championship qualifiers against Tanzania at the Machakos stadium. Kamau spoke days after dropping over 10 players owing to age related regulations as stipulated in the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) rules. The regulations stipulate that only players who were born after January 1994 are eligible to play in the twoleg championships.. “It is is a big blow losing players I have been working with for quite a while. It means having to go back on tactics again while working with their replacements,” said the Thika United head coach. Casualties include former Tusker United forward Michael Olunga, now at Thika United, and teammate David King’atua whose birth dates are between November and December 1994 and is not therefore eligible to play for the junior team. “The two above are good young players I have been working with. There are other equally good ones who have been ruled out. I have called upon players to replace them,” he said.“We are good to go,” he said. After the Sunday first leg clash, a return leg will be played in a fortnight in Dar-es Salaam.

Goalposts to hold sports day on Saturday Moving the Goalposts (MTG) will celebrate the first International Day of Sport for Development and Peace with the “Sport for Change” event in Kilifi County on Saturday. The event will unite organisations from Kilifi County that use sport as drivers of social change. MTG Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator Cocky van Dam says the day signifies the increasing recognition by UN of the positive influence sport has on the campaign in human rights, and social and economic development. “Relevant international organisations and international, regional and national sport organisations, civil society and the private sector have been invited to cooperate, observe and raise awareness of the International Day of Sport for development and peace ,” she said. She said MTG will give participants, guests and the audience opportunity to participate in life skills and reproductive health. They are expected to disseminate messages on hygiene and sanitation through world coaches. “Prevent unintended pregnancies and keeping HIV negative young women negative through the Tackle Africa method, will be the other things young ladies will stand to gain,” she said.

Rudisha eyes comeback at Doha meeting Olympic champion and world 800m record holder David Rudisha has said he is targeting next month’s Doha Diamond league meeting for his return to action from injury. The 25-year-old policeman has not run competitively for close to a year now since picking up a knee injury that ruled him out of the 2013 world championships in Moscow. Rudisha, who is training in Iten, said he was advised not to rush back into competition until his injury completely healed. “The past

several months have not been easy for me Recovering from an injury calls for a lot of patience and positive energy. I’m glad I’m almost there,” said Rudisha. “There is a long way from now to May but I want to give an assurance that I’m back training and fit. My knee injury has healed and it is now important for me to regain my fitness in readiness for the international competitions and make my fans proud.” Doha has been one of Rudisha’s favourite hunting grounds. Last year, he fell just three seconds shy of his record 1.40.9 world record at the London 2012 Olympics. “Doha has been great to me, I am most definitely looking forward to it,” he said.

Keli returns Copa CocaCola to be launched for Leopards in Machakos Stadium tomorrow Top 8 clash AFC Leopards head Coach James Nandwa will welcome back Jacob Keli ahead of Saturday’s KPL Top 8 clash against Bandari FC at the Afraha Stadium. Keli, the Kenya Premier League player of the season, missed last weekend’s 1-0 win over Top Fry All Stars with an injury. Nandwa said Keli’s return is a big boost for Leopards who have many players out injured. Striker Allan Wanga, captain Martin Imbalambala, winger Noah Wafula and goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya are some of the notable names out of Saturday’s clash. “It’s always good having your top players fit ahead of matches. Keli was missed last week, his training has been good,” said Nandwa. “It will be a timely return especially when some of our key players are injured, all we are going for is play well and win.” Nandwa said the poor start to the 2014 season in the league will not to continue on Sunday. “Cup competitions are very different, I need my players to come out strong against Bandari,” he said.

Pacquiao, Mayweather bout ‘soon’ Boxer Manny Pacquiao will most likely fight current undefeated Floyd Mayweather soon, the former’s Coach Freddie Roach has revealed. In late 2009 and early 2010, Pacquiao and Mayweather were considered the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters. Record profits were expected from a showdown pitting the two against each other. The legendary Roach, however, said fights against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez will have to come before Pacquiao faces Mayweather. Roach said turning tables on the two rivals who beat him in 2012 remains the immediate must-do assignment for the Filipino. “In history books, you have to avenge your losses. You have to avenge your losses in life,” Roach said. Pacquiao, the former world champion in eight weight divisions, will get his shot at retribution against

Bradley in Las Vegas on April 12. Both fighters are calling it a chance for redemption, after Bradley beat Pacquiao by a controversial split decision in June 2012 — a bout that many observers thought Pacquiao had dominated. “We feel we got robbed in the last fight — now we need to be sure that we get the victory,” said Pacquiao, 35, who will be seeking to regain the World Boxing Organisation welterweight crown he lost to Bradley. Six months after losing to the American, Pacquiao was knocked out in the sixth round by Mexico’s Marquez in a fourth bout. However, Pacquiao can not escape speculation about a match-up with unbeaten Mayweather. Mayweather vowed never to do business with Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum, but the subject never goes away. “I’ve thought about it so much, I’ve had dreams about that fight,” Roach said.

TOUGH MEET: Pacquiao might fight Mayweather soon, says coach.

I’m not yet done,Federer tells fans Former world No 1 Rodger Federer has assured fans that he is not done yet, despite a dip in form in the past couple of years. Federer said he is ready to hit the court for more clay court glory in three weeks. His performance at the Miami Masters was way below

everyone’s expectations from him after reaching the finals of his last two tournaments. Rafael Nadal is expected to assert his dominance on red court, while Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will try to put pressure on the Mallorcan Bull. Federer needs to play at

a high level to be competitive in the coming weeks ahead of the French Open. Year 2013 was less kind to the icon after he failed to reach a grand slam final for the first time since 2002. His grand slam quarterfinal streak ended at 36 and his year-end ranking of No. 5 was his lowest in 11 years. Federer only won one tournament, on grass in Halle, Germany, though he was bounced from Wimbledon a few weeks later in the second round after claiming the title at All England Club a record seven times. “My self-confidence has also returned,” he told the website of one of his sponsors, Credit Suisse, in late November. “By the end, everyone around me was talking positively again. The mood was much better than in the summer,” said the 17-time grand slam winner.

Nakuru train guns on KCB in Enterprise final Top Fry Nakuru RFC coach Dominique Habimana is confident his team will prevail in tomorrow’s Enterprise Cup finals against KCB at RFUEA grounds. Habimana, whose side are the Kenya Cup Champions, is confident the players will prevail against the bankers. “We are determined to win the Enterprise Cup this season,” said the coach.

“The hunger in the team is real having last won the cup in 2009. Our target is to win as many trophies as possible at the end of the season,” said Habimana. Top Fry have qualified for the semi-finals of the Kenya Cup set for May. Nakuru won at Nondescripts 38-10 in a fast match at Nakuru Athletic Club three weeks ago to qualify for the finals.

PROMISE: Federer says he will bounce back.

Lukaku agent in Spurs move talk Romelu Lukaku’s agent Christophe Henrotay has confirmed he has spoken to Tottenham chairman about his prospected move from Chelsea. The striker whose’ loan to Everton came as a surprise in January after missing a penalty kick against Bayern Munich is bound to focus on his career to avoid being a surplus at the Bridge.

His agent told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad he is looking for a club where the wandering lethal striker will rest. “And yes, I’ve talked to Daniel Levy once but that doesn’t mean Romelu will definitely join Spurs. That’s not a talking point at this moment,” said Henrotay. However, Henrotay said should Chelsea opt to sell Lukaku, they are

likely to ask for a price that will discourage other teams from buying. The agent also hinted the possibility of selling the striker to a bigger club that can afford to buy him and participate in European football. “There aren’t 20 teams that can afford to buy Romelu,” he said. “He won’t go from Everton to, let’s say, Swansea,” he said.
