President Uhuru urged to approve Marriage Bill President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to sign the controversial Marriage Bill which Parliament passed last month. Nyeri County Women Representative Priscilla Nyokabi says the Bill has many benefits and will bring order into the society’s most basic institution. “The President should quickly sign the Bill so that we begin to have order. There are many positive things contained in that Bill which we want out people to start enjoying. It will
also bring order and help us avoid many family feuds we are currently witnessing, she told X-News today. The passage of the Marriage Bill last month by MPs elicited mixed reactions with many expressing reservations over its content. Among those who opposed the Bill were head of the Catholic Church John Cardinal Njue who asked President Kenyatta not to assent to it.

MP asks Uhuru to sign Bill From Page 1
He said the President should return the Bill to Parliament to allow for the contentious clauses to be deleted. But Ms Nyokabi has called on those opposed to the Bill to stop holding the country at ransom.
“This law is very good because it reinforces our positive culture and also sets the marriage age at 18 which is far better than before when young girls could be married off at a young age. Those opposed to the Bill because of certain clauses should let us move forward because the Bill has got various options,” she
said. Among the contentious clauses that has seen women, especially MPs, oppose the Bill is the deletion of a clause requiring a man to notify his first wife of his intentions to marry another spouse. “The Bill is very clear. If you choose to enter a traditional marriage then
you know the consequences and vice versa for the other marriages. Let the Bill be signed into law and people be advised accordingly. We want to begin debate on another Bill dealing with protection to domestic violence,” she said. Ms Nyokabi, who is the vice chair of the Parliamentary Committee on
Justice and Legal Affairs, hailed the passage of the Bill as a milestone, saying for the first time in Kenya, many marriages will be recognised by law. “This will also help us easily deal with cases where many women just pop up to lay claim to a man’s property once he is dead,” she said.

Kenya losing millions due to lack of toilets About 14 per cent of Kenyans still practice open defecation, a practise that costs the country approximately Sh7.6billion per year. This is according to a report by the World Health Organisation and Unicef Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP). The report also shows that 31 percent of the population lives with un-improved sanitation (Facilities that do not ensure hygienic separation of human excreta from human contact, including pit latrines). An earlier study had concluded that eliminating open defecation would require less than 1.2 million latrines to be built and used. “29 per cent of Kenyans have access to improved sanitation, 26 percent shared sanitation,” said the report. Progress is being made as the government strives to help foster sanitation and hygiene through the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) concept initiated in 2007 yielding fruit with Nambale (home to 82,000 people) and Nyando(87,353 persons) sub-counties being declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) zones. Experts believe the achievement of proper sanitation and hygiene will lead to the liberation of the 1 billion people still practising open defecation; 227 million of
Each person practicing open defecation spends almost 2.5 days a year finding a private location to defecate leading to large economic losses. Approximately 19,500 Kenyans, including 17,100 children under 5, die each year from diarrhea – nearly 90% of which is directly attributed to poor water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Sh183 million is lost each year due to Productivity Losses whilst sick or accessing healthcare: This includes time absent from work or school due to diarrheal disease, seeking treatment from a health clinic or hospital. Lobby demands audit on Youth Fund projects A youth lobby group has asked the government to immediately launch an audit on all tenders disbursed by the Youth Enterprise Fund. The National Association of Youth Enterprise (NAYE) claims the youth have been conned in award of tenders which has seen them win contracts worth only Sh1.5 billion. “This is a drop in the ocean given that the country’s budget is more than a trillion. The youth should have been awarded tenders worth more than Sh336 billion by now,”
NAYS chairperson Brian Randich said. Randich has asked the government to audit a report on how the tenders have been awarded, saying the youth need to know the amount of funds so far generated. Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru recently announced that youth and women have been awarded state tenders amounting to Sh1.5 billion. But Mr Randich accused some senior government officers for fight-
ing for the control of the funds. He claimed more procurement could have been attained by the youth. “We want the whole process to be audited so that we know what went wrong where,” he said. The union Secretary General Eric Mungai asked the Government to

Pedestrians could soon be set for alcoblow test Pedestrians suspected by police to be disorderly could soon be subjected to an alcoblow test if a new bill in the Senate become law. Senate Majority Leader Prof Kindiki Kithure has sponsored a Bill seeking to make life tougher for drunkards in a bid to further curb drink driving and disorderliness. The Alcoholics Drinks Amendement Bill 2014, which is currently with the senate committee on security after having been formally introduced in the house, also seeks to revoke the driving licence of those who convicted of drink driving more than twice in a year. The proposed bill also aims to increase the fine for a drunk and disorderly conviction from Sh500 to Sh10, 000 if found guilty. MPs and members of the disciplined forces could also end up being casualties of the Bill if it becomes law as it also seek to remove the exemption granted to them to enjoy duty free alcohol.

Laugh more for a good memory Ever have trouble remembering where you just left your keys? Just laugh it off. New research suggests that humor can improve short-term memory in older adults. In a recent small study conducted at Loma Linda University in Southern California, 20 normal, healthy, older adults watched a funny video distraction-free for 20 minutes, while a control group sat calmly with no video. Afterwards, they performed memory tests and had saliva samples analyzed for stress hormones. Those who got to laugh the 20 minutes away with the funny video scored better on short-term memory tests, researchers said. And salivary levels of the stress hormone cortisol -- a memory enemy of sorts -were significantly decreased in the humor group. “Learning ability and delayed recall become more challenging as we age,” said study author Dr. Gurinder S. Bains, a Ph.D. candidate in Rehabilitation Sciences. “ The less stress you have, researchers said, the better your memory.
UN moves CAR muslims to safe zone The United Nations has evacuated close to 100 Muslims from the war-torn Central African Republic to save their lives. More than 93 Muslims were transported east from Bangui to the town of Bambari bythe UN refugee agency staff after thousands were attacked and killed in sectarian conflict in the former French colony. As the convoy of two trucks accompanied by other vehicles left Bangui, they were pelted with stones at they passed through the town of Sibut. According to Tammi Sharpe, the deputy head of the UNHCR in the Central Africa Republic, this was a measure to save their lives Despite the fact that Bambari is a predominantly Christian town with about 45,000 Christians, they live in Harmony with the Muslims. The Central African Republic, one of the poorest countries in the World, was plunged into a crisis by a coup driven by Muslim Seleka rebels, March last year.
BETTER LIVING ahEad Kenya will become a middle-income nation within the next five months, The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has said. The market value of all goods and services the country produces in a year is expected to increase to Sh4.3 trillion from Sh3.6 trillion in 2013, raising the public’s average salary to $1,136 (Sh98,500) per year, up from a current estimate of $943 (Sh81,800). This will be rated above a benchmark annual salary of $1,036 (Sh89,900) set by the World Bank for middle-income na-
tions. “A bigger economy means Kenya needs less support and will not be eligible to access key export markets on preferential terms,” said Economic analyst. Robert Shaw. The KNBS has said that Kenya will achieve middle-income status 16 years ahead of the 2030 date set in the country’s Vision 2030 development plan. The move will secure Kenya’s position as East Africa’s biggest market and Africa’s fourth-largest economy after Nigeria, South Africa and Angola.
China shuts down websites in porn purge The Chinese government has shut down thousands of websites and social media sites in a bid to purge the internet of online pornography. The nation’s state media services Monday announced the progress of the campaign dubbed ‘Cleaning the Web
2014’ which has resulted in the closure of 110 websites and more than 3,300 accounts containing ‘obscene’ material since January. Online pornography is illegal in China and the latest drive, to last until November, follows repeated attempts to censor sites displaying the
material. An unidentified spokesman for the official Xinhau state agency said: “Disseminating pornographic information online severely harms the physical and mental health of minors, and seriously corrupts social ethos”. But overseas critics have
expressed concern about the crackdown, which they say represents the latest attempt by the government to inflict broader censorship of websites. Recently, the government has closed social messaging networks run by outspoken communists. And last year,
the state attempted to purge the spread of online rumours in a move seen as a tool to punish critics of the ruling Communist Party. Only last week, a Beijing court sentenced a man to three years in prison for spreading rumours on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter.

Nubians boss claims City Hall biased against them
No tUrNiNg baCk: Armed Administration Police officers during an operation in Eastleigh estate in Nairobi. Security agents arrested more than 2,000 suspects from the estate over the Easter holiday period.
Easter police operation nets 2000 illegal aliens
Members of the Nubian community claim they have been sidelined in key development decisions by the Nairobi County government. Chairman of the Nubial Social Club Ibrahim Amber claimed the community is an important stakeholder in affairs of the capital city and should be included in the decision-making processes. He spoke over the weekend during the Nubian Annual socio-cultural day at Kibera. “Our forefathers played a big role in the development of this city and as Nubians, we must never be ignored,” he said. He said members of the community should be issued with title deeds for the land they occupy in the Kibera slum. President Kenyatta was last year scheduled to issue title deeds to the community but the event was cancelled at the last minute after politicians opposed it. Mr Amber also raised concerns that their culture faces extinction and urged the county government to sponsor an annual festival to allow younger members appreciate their tradition.
Operation Usalama Watch continued over the Easter holidays during which over 2,000 suspects were netted in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa and Eldoret. Police said they arrested 150 illegal immigrants over the period. The suspects will be deported as others are taken to refugee camps. In Nairobi, the operation concentrated on the sprawling Eastleigh estate as more suspects were rounded up amid protests from some leaders. Officials said more than 100
suspected illegal aliens will be deported after their arrest at the weekend. Another 200 will be driven to camps after they were arrested out of the gazetted areas. Those scheduled for deportation are held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Railway Police Station. The refugees are confined at Kasarani and Gigiri police stations. Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku said 281 refugees have been returned to camps from Nairobi since Thursday. The first group of

A woman was last night attacked by a gang and her ears cut in a robbery incident in Nairobi’s Buru Buru estate. Police said they have launched a manhunt for the gang which also robbed the middle-aged woman of cash and valuables. The woman was walking home when she was accosted by three men who were armed with knives. The thugs fled after inflicting wounds on the woman. Area OCPD Charles Kerich said police are pursuing the attackers. “They dissected the woman’s ears as they struggled to steal her valuables and cash. They escaped with her purse that had valuables but we are looking for them,” said Kerich. Cases of armed robberies have gone up in Nairobi as police struggle to contain the attacks.
111 refugees was transported out of Kasarani on Thursday evening in four buses to Dadaab and Kakuma camps. The second group comprising 170 refugees left Nairobi on Friday evening in six buses. Ole Lenku said the government will ensure all refugees are only settled in gazetted camps. The refugees were screened at the stadium in an operation that started on April 1. Lenku said an earlier order requiring aliens to be settled strictly in gazetted camps
conforms to local and international laws governing refugee affairs. Kenya hosts more than 600,000 refugees and asylum seekers from over 11 countries. In Turkana, 39 illegal aliens were last week arrested, taken to court and fined Sh10,000 before being jailed for three months after which they will be deported. They include 18 Somalis, 15 Sudanese and six Congolese. The move came as 91 more aliens were deported to Somalia after they were found in Kenya illegally. Eighty-two
had been deported a week earlier. They are part of the 225 illegal aliens who have been lined up for deportation. Officials said the 91 were deported from JKIA on Thursday. The government said 412 people will be repatriated to designated camps from where they had sneaked out. Of the 225 to be deported, 214 are from Somalia, six Ethiopia, two Ugandans, and a Cameroonian, Tanzanian and South Sudanese.

Report blames crime and graft for poaching Corruption in government and organised crime could be the key factors behind the escalating poaching menace, a new study suggest. A report dubbed Ivory’s Curse: The Militarization and Professionalization of Poaching in Africa, says ivory is now becoming a major source of conflict in Africa being abated by corruption. “Ivory is a conflict, crime, and corruption issue with severe human impact. It has been a conflict resource for decades, just like blood diamonds or coltan in Central Africa, only without the same level of global attention,”
Cop kills robbery suspect in US court A man accused of robbery and assault was shot and killed in a Salt Lake City court after he lunged at a witness giving evidence. Siale Angilau, 25, died in hospital after being shot several times by a US marshal in front of the jury at the new federal courthouse. The FBI said the man had rushed towards the witness with a pen in an “aggressive, threatening manner”. Angilau was the last of 17 accused gang members tried as part of 2010 case. The case included 29 counts, including assault, conspiracy, robbery and weapons offences. Perry Cardwell, who was in the courtroom with his adult daughter, told the Associated Press news agency that at least six shots were fired. It was kind of traumatising,” Sara Jacobson, his daughter, said. The witness on the stand at the time was not identified and was not injured. He appeared to be in his mid-20s and was testifying about gang initiation, Mr Cardwell said. US District Judge Tena Campbell ordered a mistrial, writing in her order that members of the jury were visibly shaken and upset. Angilau’s lawyer declined to answer questions as he left the court on Monday. The accused had been transferred to federal custody last week.
saidVarun Vira , the co-author of the report. The report by Born Free USA and C4ADS says local security forces supply guns and ammunition to the poachers. “The widespread availability of firearms and ammunition, much of it likely leaking from government forces, exacerbates the problem,” the report says. The study says the menace is perpetrated by professionals who are in global networks and the international criminals must be tracked down to avoid driving the elephants and rhinos
to extinction. “Impoverished locals may pull the triggers but they source to organized crime, which controls the scale of the poaching and nearly all profits. Saving both elephants and local communities will require moving from the bush into the world of global illicit networks in order to target transnational criminal profits, says the report. Adam Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA, says ivory markets must be shunned and governments must be pressurised to act. “No one should ever buy ivory, but they should also contribute resources
to organizations like Born Free USA that help equip rangers on the ground, and should pressure political leaders to take action to end the corruption,” said Robert. The study was carried out in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Sudan, and Kenya, where poachers move across borders with near impunity, slaughtering elephants with complete disregard and use the ivory to fund violent operations across the continent such as Al-Shabaab. The report says between 35, 000 and 50, 000 elephants have been killed across Africa in 2013.

Kenyans feel the pinch as prices of goods rise Consumers will be forced to part with more money as the cost of basic goods continues to rise. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), producer prices in the country increased by 0.47 per cent during the first quarter of the year driven by high cost of manufacturing beverages and chemicals. The report shows that the cost of flour, dairy products, salt and detergents have been affected and may continue to increase. Milk, cheese and yoghurt prices are set to jump as the price of a 500 gram packet of salt has doubled from Sh10 to sell at up to Sh20. The KNBS said that the cost of producing beverages like malt liquor has increased leading to an increase in the average price of these consumer goods by as much as 7.68 per cent. The cost of producing sugar and tea, however,

Accounts body designs project to decongest city Residents of Ruaraka inNairobi may soon have no need to come into the City centre when the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPA K) new building on Thika Road is complete. The 12-floor building will house a shopping mall, a hotel, furnished apartments, offices, banking halls and other facilities. It is expected that the building will reduce the flow of human traffic into the city centre with most people from the area meeting their shopping needs at the ICPAK building. Nairobi is notorious for crowds of people who make movement within or through the city difficult. Jobless Kenyans are too costly to hire, study shows Kenyans have been avoiding private sector jobs as they look for more money in the public sector, surveys by research firms, Corporate Staffing and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have said. The private sector, which gives jobs to about 52 per cent of the country’s work force, pays less than what most Kenyans are looking for. With the average monthly income currently standing at close to Sh12,300, many employees are looking for money while some job seekers are refusing to settle for less than what they think they deserve. Despite the fact that the country needs to employ over 500,000 people every year, the sector has had a hard time retaining staff due to the high costs of attracting new talent. “Employees have raised their expectations, which current employers are not meeting, and they hope the next employer would,” says Corporate Staffing Services

A survey by Kenya Horticulture Competitiveness Project (KHCP) says the crop has potential to employ hundreds more and boost farmers’ profits by as much as 57 per cent. There are more market opportunities in the industry for more than 10,000 smallholder growers after companies like Sunny Processors Central Kenya and Premier Foods in Coast invested in new processing
plants. “There is growing consumer interest internationally in general and this means opportunity for Kenyan
growers,” says MFarm researcher James Wambua. Uganda buys 76 per cent of passion fruit exports from Kenya, followed by the European Union (EU) and Middle East at 17 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively. A kilogramme of passion fruits in Kenya costs Sh40 but can fetch between Sh70 and Sh100 in the global market.
“Ongoing interventions to train farmers in good agricultural practices, establish certified nurseries and subsequent propagation of clean planting material form a basis for expanding production,” said the report. Kenya can produce passion fruit all year round, but most farmers rely exclusively on rainfall, which limits the amount of fruit they can produce. The KHCP, a USAID project, has said investments in irrigation supplies will helps farmers in terms of yearround production and therefore increase their profits.

This is the first time since the start of the year that the prices have fallen to such lows. In Kisumu, a 64 kg crate is selling at Sh2,520 since last year. The rise of the memes In case you have been living under a rock, you have missed on one of the funniest social media phenomena-the memes. First, one has to get the pronunciation right; it is pronounced m-i-m not m-e-m-e. The dictionary defines it as an idea, behaviour, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture. That is exactly
how they became popular in the internet. They are pictures with sarcastic phrases that are usually meant to define a situation or mood someone is in. They are used to troll friends on the internet and are mostly lines from dialogues in a movie or TV shows, repeated frequently. Many can identify with the lines.

Mr Lenny returns to rock his fans
“Nyi wasee tumetoka Githurai! Tumekam kuwapa rhymes zingine dry-y!” Those were the days when Kapuka kings like Mr Lenny, whose real name is Lenson Njuki, used to blast the airwaves. Kenyans more than loved his tracks. Mr Lenny rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Cash Money and later Wasee wa Githurai with Mr Googs and Vinnie Banton. Later he collaborated with Kunguru in the hit track Baby Don’ go and African woman. He went on to feature Nameless in the hit song Juju
inclining higher. Suddenly, he disappeared from the music radar leaving Kenyans wondering what happened to him. After six years of grand silence, he popped up in January with a new track Randa Randa. The same month, Mr Lenny was also spotted at the Wakilisha East Africa event. In February, he performed at the Guinness Football Challenge auditions. His silence was not for nothing. He appears to have been busy setting up
his lovely family. His family photos undoubtedly display his joy as he cuddles his wife and son. He had decided to quit music after having a brawl with the Ogopa family. However, this changed earlier this year when Refigah of Grandpa Records offered him a recording deal. He wasted no time and shortly released his new track . It is assuring to know that he still has a touch with the microphone and his vocals are even better.
BACK WITH A BANG: Mr Lenny.

It’s always fascinating to watch children do adult things, stuff. That is why child stars, especially in showbiz, are a good story anytime. The entertainment world is full of examples of child stars -Willow Smith, Justin Beiber, Selina Gomez, the Olsen twins e.t.c. African too, is growing its share of child stars, Malik Lemuel (Kenya), Oziomachukwu Favour Mojekwu, whose stage name is Ozzy Bosco from Nigeria, and Botlahle Boikanyo from South Africa. Lemuel, who plays Govi in local comedy Machachari, stands out as one of Kenya’s most known child stars. Since his first appearance in Makutano Junction, the 14 year-old has shown improvement in subsequent roles. Thanks to his performances, production house are keen to sign him up. Like most kids in showbiz, Lemuel is branching into modelling and hosting events (‘emceeing’) like he did at the 2012 Blue Band’s Kids Festival. He has fea-
tured in many television adverts, like the CFC Stanbic promotion of children’s insurance products. Boikanyo stunned the world by winning the 2012 edition of South Africa’s Got Talent when she was just 11. She captivated many with her original and passionate poetic rhymes. She stood out as one of Africa’s youngest and touching poets. There is not an African who does not get moved at the mention of Nelson Mandela and the continent must have grinned with pride when Botlahle belted a recital dedicated Madiba. Never in her poems did she fail to remind the world of Africa’s rich history. Her performance earned a recording contract with Sony Music. Earlier last year, she launched her first music video Africa my pride. Ozzy Bosco is also one to watch out for. He began his flirtation with fame when he seized the country’s Kids Got Talent competition as best entertainer in 2011 at only four years. “Wonder Kid” as he calls himself, is a good dancer, comedian, he can draw and has potential of becoming a painter.

Turkana weddings go on for 3 years While modern church marriages are formalised immediately after a wedding ceremony, Turkana weddings rituals take about three years. The three-year period involves a series of rituals, ending when the firstborn of the pair learns to walk. Peter Ekuro, a Turkana elder says in his community, women aged between 15 and 20 years can decide on who to marry from a group of suitors. Once they settle on a candidate, the man has to seek consent from both families. “The suitor must secure consent from his kinsmen, who will help him pay dowry. He will then be joined by brothers and age mates on a visit to the woman’s homestead-to seek second consent,” said Ekuro who is in his 50’s. The potential husband and his entourage, sit under a shade and meet the bride’s kinsmen. They must declare their intention, and if they are well received, a party is thrown as confirmation of acceptance. This paves way for further interaction. During this period of visits and “return” visits, the woman or man may decline or withdraw intentions. In a later visit, the groom takes an ox or a castrated
camel to the bride’s home. Gruelling dowry public negotiations involving the groom’s father, uncles and the bride’s kin then start. “The bride-price usually averages 50 cows and 100 goats, but this again is informed by the ability of the groom’s family,”s aid Ekuro. Once the number is settled on, the groom’s kin offer a wedding ox, known as Ekumae, for slaughtering at the sheep and goat’s enclosure, and the meat taken to the the groom’s mother. The slaughtering formalises the marriage. In return, the bride’s father also offers an ox or a castrated camel for slaughter by bride’s kin. The groom takes the bride and upon arrival, she will change her clothing from those of unmarried to ones of a married one in yet another ritual. The father-in-law of the new wife will visit the new bride, offering livestock (usually goats) for slaughtering on her first menstruation after the wedding. The visits will be repeated when she gets pregnant, and on her first birth, when the ngasuban ritual is done to officially incorporate the wife into this family after the child has been able to walk.

Masala, chips made better TUESday, April 22, 2014
Chips masala takes the average plate of chips to a whole new level. It is spicy and saucy, and that is what sets it apart from ordinary chips. Better still, it’s a quick fill for a small budget. The most common spices used in making chips masala are coriander, chilli, onion, ginger, tomatoes and. They are all are chopped into tiny pieces and then all mixed together and fried. The trick of this dish is to ensure that all the spices are mixed perfectly together with the chips, which have already been deep fried. It is then cooked for about fifteen minutes and is ready for eating. One look at them and one might dismiss them thinking there is nothing special to them but the most arresting aspect characteristic
of masala chips is the scent of the spices. It quickly changes your mind and a bite of the flavoured chips is the clincher. The flavour teases the palates, leaves the mouth a little hot but one just can’t stop digging in and before they know it, they are ordering for more. Like all chips, masala is better eaten hot but it’s still tasty even when cold. However, they cannot be stored for more than one day because they tend to go bad quickly. They can be eaten alone but also they can be accompanied by fried chicken, samosas, sausages, nyama choma or whatever else one might like. It goes down well with a cold beverage. Chips masala is a happy dish-so do not eat it alone, enjoy it with a friend. spicY attraction: Chips masala is an irrestible dish.

strange: Virgin boy eggs.
Eggs boiled in virgin boys’ urine for health Its Spring time in Dongyang China when street vendors start selling virgin boy eggs. Virgin boy eggs are eggs that have been cooked in urine for hours. It takes a whole day to prepare them. Buckets of urine are collected from primary schools by vendors, preferably urine of boys who are under the age of
10. The eggs are first soaked in urine which is then used to boil the eggs. After that, the eggs are taken out of the pot and the shell is cracked then they are put back in the pot where they simmer for hours. The vendors keep adding urine and controlling the fire to keep the eggs from overheating and overcooking.
The residents of Dongyang believe that the eggs decrease body heat, promote better blood circulation and reinvigorate the body. The local government has even listed the virgin boy eggs as a cultural heritage. It has been a hit with some of the residents describing the eggs as a ‘taste of spring’. But

Hamilton wants to lead drivers log Wawrinka thrilled by win over Federer Lewis Hamilton is targeting to wrestle Formula One championships from Nico Rosberg. This comes after Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday. The Briton has been dominant in the 2014 season, with Sunday marking the first hat-trick of victories following his triumphs in Malaysia and Bahrain. It was his third victory out of four this season and the 25th of his career, passing Juan Manuel Fangio and drawing level with Jim Clark and Niki Lauda. He still trails his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in the world championship because of his failure to finish the opening race in Australia. The gap, however, is now down to four points. Rosberg completed his own hattrick of second places, while third place went to Fernando Alonso with an improved Ferrari performance. “My concentration is intact, I want to go for the top prize, Rosberg is a
very good driver I simply want to give my best shot, the point tally has gone down,” he said. “I can’t believe how amazing the
team is,” he said. “I was racing myself. It feels great. I’m so happy. We’re going to keep pushing, keep moving forward.”
Stanislas Wawrinka rallied past Roger Federer 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 on Sunday to win the Monte Carlo Masters. With the first Masters 1000 title of his career, Wawrinka will stay at number three on the ATP rankings . Federer is fourth and would have third had he won his first Monte Carlo title. “When I go into a match against them, I think I can beat them. I’m on the court to win,” Wawrinka said of facing the top players. “I’m more consistent and I have better results. The difference is that now I have more trust in myself.” “Beating the 18- grand slam winner is very special,” he said. Wawrinka, the Australian Open
champion, won his tour-leading third title of the year and seventh overall. The 29-year-old defeated Federer for only the second time in 15 meetings with both victories coming in Monte Carlo, where Wawrinka also got the best of his good friend and Davis Cup teammate in 2009. In a match briefly interrupted by rain, Wawrinka overcame a slow start to reel in Federer over two hours and 13 minutes. He had 11 winners and 17 unforced errors in the first set, but he made only 17 errors in the final two sets. He finished with 33 winners and 34 errors compared to 21 winners and 38 errors for Federer.

Sergio Aguero@aguerosergiokun “Let’s keep climbing the chart. 4 matches left and anything could happen! Eugene Teoh@eugeneteoh Bye bye The Chosen One... Unfortunately you’ll be remembered as the The Wrong One during your disastrous reign #MoyesSacked Piers Morgan@piersmorgan Sir Alex recommended Moyes over Mourinho because he feared the latter would eclipse his memory too fast. Harsh, selfish, reality. Goonerholic@muchai_joseph Betrayed by a greedy club for money and glory, betrayed by plastic fans who can’t take one bad season. gunnerblog@gunnerblog I would like to thank David Moyes for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role of destroying @ManUtd.
sacked: David Moyes has been relieved off his duties by EPL side Manchester United.
