Govt offers hope for lifting of GMOs ban Hopes for the lifting of the ban on Genetically Modified Products increased on Thursday after the Government appeared to have softened its stance on the issue. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei said Genetically Modified crops are a food production alternative that can help mitigate against perennial food shortage.
“The government recognises the potential that technology, including genetic modification, can offer towards attainment of food security,” Koskei said in a speech read by Principal Secretary Japhet Ntiba. The acknowledgment came amid intense pressure from experts, lobbyists and governors to have the ban imposed in 2012 lifted.
