Arson suspected in Maseno varsity fire THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2015

Almost the entire administration block of Maseno University in Kisumu County has been burnt down in what is suspected to be an arson attack by students.

The unknown assailants burnt down the building which houses the Vice Chancellor’s office, that of finance, the registry as well as dean of students office.

The officers have crucial records of the university which are kept in them.

Maseno University Public Relations Officer Jasper Otieno told reporters that a probe is already underway to establish the motive behind the attack.

“We have not yet ascertained what caused the fire but investigations are ongoing.

However, we suspect that some students were involved though I cannot say much at this point. What is remaining now is to get to the root cause of the incident and to determine the extent of the damage,” he told Capital FM today.

Nairobi records highest number of police executions Nairobi County has recorded the highest number of executions recorded in the last five months with a total of 39 executions, a report by Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) has revealed.

The County according to the report has the highest number of deaths from police bullets between January and September this year.

Isiolo County comes in second with six people executed, Kirinyaga and Nakuru have five, Turkana, Mombasa and Homa Bay with four each, Narok and Nyeri have three, while Bungoma, Muranga, Kajiado, Kwale, Lamu, Laikipia, Kilifi, Kiambu and Uasin Gishu have two people.

Other counties such as Kisii, Meru, Marsabit, Nyandarua, Busia and Baringo had only one execution during the same period.

In comparison to last year, the report indicates that there has been a reduction in the number of executions by police officers from January to July, but the number rose between August and September.

The report also indicates that the total number of

cases documented by IMLU in 2014 from January to September are 34 out of which 29 were male and five female.

In 2015 during the same period, the total number of people executed reduced to 25 out of which 22 were male and only three were female.

The report indicates that in 2015, January and August had the highest number of executions at 23 and 20 respectively.

Responding to queries over the increased police execution at a separate function in Nairobi, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said he is not aware of any of such executions in the country.

Boinnet said he specifically needs to know the context in which the human rights groups came to their conclusion about the executions.

The police boss, however, insisted that police have to follow the law while conducting their duties.

He called for a common understanding between the public and the police services in order for the police to serve the public better.

Silent giraffes have secretly made music over the years: Research

Giraffes have been secretly “dropping beats” for possibly thousands of years now and scientists finally have the equipment to record these rhythms.

Aside from the occasional grunt, it had been previously assumed that giraffes spent most of their lives in a tight-lipped silence.

Now, new research from a group of University of Vienna scholars suggests that giraffes actually spend their evenings humming.

For decades zookeepers reported occasional snorts as the only sounds their charges made.

A published report from Wired states that the conventional expla-

nation was that their long necks were responsible for their silent nature.

Even some experts had determined that while the long-necked creatures do have a voice box, they could not produce sufficient airflow through their four metre trachea or “windpipe” to make noises.

The researchers suspected the reason no one heard giraffe communication was because the sound frequency was too low for humans to hear.

“So they recorded giraffes at three zoos, compiling more than 938 hours of giraffe sounds over an

eight year period,” said the report.

The team was, in fact, looking for specific patterns of low-frequency sounds with a harmonic structure.

They later discovered that giraffes make humming sounds, but only at night and in a low frequency well below the spectrum of human hearing.

“These results show that giraffes produce vocalisations, which, based on their acoustic structure, might have the potential to function as communicative signals to convey information about the physical and motivational attributes of the caller,” concluded the researchers.

Kidero defends Nairobi e-payment system Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Wednesday responded to accusations of corruption levelled against his office accusing disgruntled businessmen of attempting to ‘soil’ his track record.

Three legislators, Benson Mutura (Makadara), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) and George Theuri (Embakasi West) had last week called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the revenue collection system used by the county, saying the city was getting a raw deal as revenue collections had dropped.

“This deal raises a lot of pertinent questions that need to be addressed promptly to stop the further pilferage of public funds in the name of enhancing efficiency,” said Mutura.

Kidero however insists the adoption of the JamboPay system has increased revenue collection by 14 percent (Sh1.4 billion) adding that if the system was fully adopted, there would be an overall revenue growth of up to 30 percent (Sh2.2 billion) per annum. “The accountability and transparency achieved through automation of revenue collection has of course made some beneficiaries of the past manual system unhappy, but the Nairobi County Government has moved on and assures all Nairobians that the current system was procured in strict adherence of the law,” said Kidero. Contingency plans ahead of El Nino The Ministry of Health has developed a national contingency plan to ensure generators are provided to hospitals as back-up for the anticipated power failure during the El Nino rains. On the question of procurement and whether JamboPay was favoured by the county, Kidero maintained that the procurement law was fully

adhered to as Webtribe which was eventually the cheapest bidder was awarded the fiveyear tender, further clarifying that the company was only paid a 1.25 per cent commission of total revenue and not 4.5 as indicated by the auditor.

“JamboPay is a youthful company owned by Kenyan entrepreneurs. It has proved its worth in the time when it has been in operation, and the County Government is keen on supporting creating jobs for the youth by availing them such tender opportunities,” said Kidero. JamboPay is used to by over 2,000 other organisations in Kenya, Uganda, Senegal and Tanzania.

A man killed his girlfriend before committing suicide in a domestic quarrel in Eastleigh, Nairobi. He stabbed the 25 year old woman to death in their house before taking poison. His body was found on a rooftop of their house today morning.

The two are said to have been quarrelling over unknown reasons before the incident occurred. Police say they are investigating the incident. Elsewhere in Kibera. Police are holding a woman after she allegedly killed and dumped her infant in a dustbin in the slums.

The woman had given birth to the infant at a clinic in the area when she allegedly walked out and killed it. Residents discovered the infant in a paper bag and alerted police who traced and arrested her. Police say the woman is in custody and would appear in court to face various charges including infanticide.

Search for missing US ship suspended The US Coast Guard has “suspended” its search for the El Faro, which sank near the Bahamas with 33 people on board. The 735ft (224m) cargo vessel and its crew have been missing since issuing a distress call on Thursday.

Search planes have found debris including life jackets, containers and oil in the water, but only one body has been recovered. It is not clear why the captain decided to lead the ship into waters near Hurricane Joaquin. The search officially ended on Wednesday evening at sunset.

Uchumi now shuts outlets in fresh bid to curb losses Uchumi supermarket has closed down four of its outlets in Kenya and Uganda over non-performance as part of a turnaround plan to curb losses.

The newly-appointed chief executive Julius Kipng’etich said the re-organisation aims at stabilising the business back to its feet by next year.

“We have closed down Kabalagala and Natete branches in Uganda as part of the ongoing rationalisation of the business to stop financial

bleeding and get Uchumi back on its feet,” Kipng’etich said in a statement.

Early last week, Kipng’etich said the closure in the capital city of Uganda left only three of its branches operating in Uganda.

Reuters reports.

However, the exercise has also seen Maua and Syokimau outlets in Kenya being shut and the exercise will continue until the supermarket fully gets back to growth and profitability.

Kenya’s growing middle class members, which includes white collar workers, young entrepreneurs and those just joining the job market, generally plan to buy their own property and set up a profitable business within the next 10 years.

A new report from leading investment group, Standard Chartered has revealed that setting up their own businesses and investing in property are some of the top priorities of the emerging affluent across Africa and Asia. The report has affirmed that the growing middleclass, also known as the emerging affluent across the two regions is confident about their market’s growth prospects.

“At a time when many people are worried about the global economy, this study suggests it feels very different on the ground in Asia and Africa. These emerging affluent consumers are confident, ambitious and are driving wealth creation, which supports the longterm outlook for growth across these markets,” said Retail Banking chief executive at Standard Chartered Karen Fawcett. The report revealed that 56 per cent of Kenyans are confident that the country’s market will offer favourable opportunities for them to embark on investments next year.

Likewise, the social networks involved are also expected to cache and direct users to the AMP articles rather than the originals if users click on relevant links in their apps.

“We’ll support accelerated mobile pages in search in 2016, but the code is public, so publishers can launch them today, and we expect some smaller apps to be able to render AMP files immediately.”

his story is best told if we went back to the good old days. Once upon a time in Kenya, high school goers were the most respectable members of the society whose moral, s o c i a l and religious values sat at the very top of the norm table. Once upon a time in Kenya, joining high school was the most dreaded stage of life not because of the rampant bullying, but because of the stringent rules and measures taken by high schools to instill discipline in their students. Back then, we did not have mobile phones for chatting with girlfriends and boyfriends over midterms and holidays and the only means of communication was handwritten letters on floral notepads ; letters which were keenly screened by high school discipline masters before delivery and woe unto you if they detected suggestive ideas about sexual and romantic involvement. In those days, minors interacting with members of the opposite sex was considered taboo and it was believed that girls could get pregnant by simply standing next to a boy! Stories are told of a time in Kenya where parents and teachers were feared in equal measure due to pooling of disciplinary energy whenever one was caught in the wrong. During this legendary time, one would be summoned to the staff room where they would find their parents and the entire teaching fraternity waiting in a throng to give them ‘three of the best’ each and if your hands broke in the process, the better the punishment. Teenagers taking a sip of alcohol or coming close to a rave spot was considered suicide and if you dared glance at a cigarette stick or a marijuana plant, it was believed you would turn into a pillar of salt. When going back to school, one would be given pocket money strictly enough for bus fare and an extra 100 Shillings at most for miscellaneous purposes. On opening days, parents would escort their children all the way to the bus stop to ensure they boarded a gender exclusive vehicle and they would wait until takeoff to make sure their children didn’t sneak back into town to take one for the road back to school. The result?

A well-bred and respectable generation with high prospects for their future.

But that was then.

Today, our teenagers are the definition of a rotten cohort, if recent media reports are anything to go by. This week, 500 school children were busted in Eldoret indulging in all manner of perversion, including sexual orgies and drug

abuse. This came just weeks after another group of high school students was apprehended in a Matatu while engaging in the exact same lewdness on their way home for the holidays.

Can we solely blame technology? We are told the mobile phone is now a basic teen need! In this era, the SI unit of being a cool teen is hanging out and getting physical with members of the opposite sex and law suits await teachers who dare lay a finger on undisciplined students who have been turned into spoilt brats by their parents.

Bottom line, members of society who still have their sanity intact need to step up on their communal role, come to the rescue of our teens and restore the original beautiful narrative about our country’s youth moral position. It was appalling to say the least to watch lewd videos of underage girls and boys meant to be in school, otherwise getting high on drugs and other stuff. The owner of the club has since been charged then set free and parents of the wayward kids summoned but is that enough?

f you thought the I phone 6 plus and Samsung edge phones were the climax of mobile phone technology, say hello, literally, to RoboHon straight out of Japan.

As the name suggests, RoboHon is a prototype creation that is both a robot and a phone, which has already been tested and approved for the market with the initial sale set for 2016. Created by Japanese genius Tomotaka Takahashi, the device that has taken the world by storm is a combination of both skills and features possessed by robots and phones respectively.

Just like a robot, the RoboHon is created with animated limbs (arms and legs) which give the device the ability to walk, talk and even dance on prompt, with voice and facial recognition features that allow it to conduct a meaningful conversation with the owner!

Standing at eight inches, the

RoboHon comes with a 2 inch touch screen built into its back for interactivity. The reason why the screen was built into the back of the device instead of the customary frontal location is as the creators put it, because it is primarily a robot with the additional perk of mobile phone functionality. The RoboHon also comes with a camera and projector built into its face and weighing only 390 grams, making it easy to carry around most practically in the breast pocket where you can actually engage the roboHon in a conversation as you stroll around.

During the unveiling event earlier this week, fascinated tech fans were able to engage the RoboHon in conversations. For example, one fan said to the device ‘It is beautiful, isn’t it?” referring to the sunset, to which the RoboHon intelligently responded “yes, it is.”

entails placing the robot’s belly against your cheek such that you speak into the speakers that are built in the Robot’s abdomen while the person on the other end speaks into your ears through the robot’s mouth that lies against yours ears.

The RoboHon through its voice features is able to verbally notify you when you have an incoming call or message and it is also able to detect a person posing for the camera and verbally ask them to smile or say ‘cheese’. How cool is that?

Cute as the RoboHon may be, we cannot ignore the fact that technological advancements, especially those involving communication, are driving the world against the ‘no man is an island’ grain by encouraging solitude.

There are no fixed working hours in this field since sometimes I work for 36 hours in one stretch. It is all dependent on the event and client.

What qualifications do you need for your job?

This fields needs leadership and entrepreneurial skills. You need a high degree of energy, motivation good communication skills, a strong network, eye for detail and excellent PR skills.

Was this your dream career?

Mmmhh… I believe it is.I am a trained air hostess. I worked for a while and realized it was not my thing. I am happy running around worrying about everything.

Well, sometimes a corporate booking will be weighed up against other types of events which add different value, such as appealing to certain demographic, and may not be given diary space. Even though this is really challenging at times, particularly when financial targets are involved, it is always nice to be reminded that it is not just about money.

Does your job interfere with your social life?

My job is my social life, the more events I do the more I network and socialize with friends.

What is the best part of your job?

It is really exciting - if a little nail-biting - when a client runs with my ideas and it all works on the day. I love seeing the spaces transformed in ever-creative ways and pushing myself to come up with new concepts.

What is the worst part of your job?

The worst part of the job is actually the best part of the job to me. The late working hours and calls in the middle of the night basically means that you cannot have time for yourself and you have to positively respond to it.

Any advice for those who want to venture into your line of work?

WB challenges countries over rising inequalities

World Bank has called on governments to boost “shared prosperity” to help address growing inequality and improve the lives of populations in developing countries across the globe, including Kenya.

“How are we going to address the problem of inequality? At the World Bank Group, we attack it using a term that suggests a solution -- shared prosperity,” said Group President Jim Yong Kim. “In our work with governments, we support efforts to ensure everyone benefits from growth, not just those who already control or have access to capital.”

Speaking at the United States Institute of Peace in advance of the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings in Lima, Peru, Kim hailed the civil society organisation Oxfam for effectively laying out one way to view the challenges of inequality.

“Last year, Oxfam laid down an unusually sharp challenge in their report, “Even It Up,” stating that the richest 85 people in the world control as much wealth as the bottom 50 per cent of the world – or more than 3.5 billion people,” Kim said.

“Efforts to boost shared prosperity will require a variety of strategies

for countries, because the bottom 40 per cent is made up of different populations in each one,” he said.

“Interventions have to be supple and flexible to respond to the variation. A low income country may need to ramp up agricultural productivity. A middle income country may focus more on urbanisation. For a country where most children do not go to primary school, this is the first

goal that has to be reached—and then, secondary education.”

“At the World Bank Group, for both of our goals of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity, three things have to happen—we call it Grow, Invest, and Insure. Grow the economy, invest in people, and insure them so they do not risk falling back.”

LG entered the multi-room music arena not with an exploratory dip of the toe, but with an explosion: a fully-featured line-up of audio products, designed to cater for just about any situation.

LG has taken a quality approach to its family of Music Flow speakers. Great looking anodised aluminum bodies offer a minimalist design: there’s no fuss over details that do not matter and a cohesive language that makes these speakers look like a family.

It is a fuss-free design, spared of any garish branding; the silver finish is contemporary too, fitting into pretty much any room you’d want to place them in. The placement of LEDs, controls, and the subtle marking of things such as NFC contact points, means that you know where you are with these speakers. A common design feature is the

space to the bottom, giving room for the speaker to breathe and lending some added elegance to the One of the appealing things about the Music Flow system is that LG has equipped it with a wide range of connections. Each speaker offers NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, as well as a wired Ethernet connection.

Bluetooth is generally a separate system from the Wi-Fi networking route. The NFC that all the speakers offer triggers a Bluetooth connection, as is typical for NFC, and Bluetooth works point-to-point per speaker, rather than across the entire system - something to remember when you tap your phone. Bluetooth can also be used for automatically moving music from one speaker to another, with a “follow me” feature. If you enable this, when you move

LG really pitches the Music Flow system as a Wi-Fi networked system. You can mix and match Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections for example, one might have your sound bar wired in and your peripheral speakers connected via Wi-Fi without any problem.

Setup of Music Flow is fairly straightforward and all handled by the smartphone app, unlike other systems where you have multiple networked components, where one can easily lose track of what is where at times.

Firm connects Barclays branches with Wi-Fi Liquid Telecom has connected 10 flagship branches of Barclays Bank of Kenya in Nairobi with Wi-Fi at a cost of Sh 7.6 million making Barclays the first bank to offer free internet access to customers.

The project will enable Barclays’ customers access Internet banking services and other online content for free via Wi-Fi through a secure network that is fully independent from the bank’s fibre connection.

This is the latest extension in the partnership coming as part of Barclays’ investment in value

addition services for customers to increase online banking options and improve customer’s experience.

To encourage its customers to use digital platforms, free WiFi enables customers to open accounts, view and print their account statements, transfer cash, pay bills, utilities, school fees and carry out foreign exchange transactions from any locations all at any time. “With the Wi-Fi project, we are helping Barclays differentiate the customer

experience by being the first bank in the country to offer free access to the Internet via a free connection in its halls, something it views as important for its customers,” said Liquid Telecom Kenya chief executive Ben Roberts.

The connections come at a time when 99 per cent of Internet connections in the country are made through mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and laptops, according to MobiForge.

“In allaying the security concern

that has long worried banks over free Wi-Fi in their premises, we have set up a Wi-Fi network that is totally independent from the Internet connection the bank uses to undertake its core business,” said Roberts. Cyber hackers steal cash from Fifa video gamers Cyber hackers have stolen data and money from six of the most successful Fifa video gamers to feature on YouTube.

The hackers stole millions of Fifa coins, the games virtual currency, and sold virtual players worth thousands of pounds.

The gamers, who go by the pseudonyms, AnesonGib, W2S, Nepenthez, Nick28T, Bateson87 and matthdgamer, have more than five million YouTube subscribers between them.

The hack comes at a time when playing video games and uploading the content onto video sharing site, YouTube has created a career for many gamers in recent years. Players have been known to receive endorsements from major gaming companied and earn actual money from their exploits.

Kenya should copy Russia in fighting terror The naval bombardment launched on ISIS targets in Syria, is a move in the right direction.

Four Russian ships fired 26 missiles from the Caspian Sea using precise long-range missiles that flew 1,500 kilometres to their targets in Syria. The bombardment also appeared to mark new and closer military cooperation between Russia and the embattled Syrian

regime of President Bashar al-Assad. I am impressed. If you only borrowed Kenya these weapons, Kenya Defence Force would sit in Nairobi and fire at Al shabaab in Somali with great precision. SPORTS BRIEFS Dinamo midfielder, Ademi, fails drug test Arsenal got a boost in their Uefa Champions league campaign after Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Arijan Ademi failed a drug.

This come a few days after Zagreb defeated Arsenal in the first leg of their champions League match two last month.

Dinamo announced that Uefa has started disciplinary proceedings against Ademi, 24, who played the full 90 minutes during the Croatian side’s 2-1 victory in Zegreb last month. “We are surprised because Ademi was selected for doping control six times this year and results were negative every time,” a club statement read. If Ademi’s B sample is also positive, the player could face a ban, but there are no rules to disqualify teams from the competition unless two or more players fail drug tests. FKF poll woes as Wario now terms entity illegal

KPL, FKF 16 team league agreement saves KCB Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) may have escaped relegation after Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and football Kenya Federation (FKF) agreed to relegate only two teams from the top tier Sport Pesa Premier League. The two protagonists seems to have buried their hatches and egos when they agreed on a 16 team for the 2016 season. This came after KPL released Sh5 million to FKF-something that put to an end, at least for the time being, the constant wrangles between the two factions that could not agree on the number of clubs for this season’s league.

FKF had lobbied for additional two clubs from the Nationwide but KPL stood their ground, arguing that they did not have money to accommodate the extra teams.

As a result, none of the FKF teams were promoted and the last two in the KPL, City Stars and Nakuru All Stars, maintained their places in the league. Nakuru All Stars fate back to the ‘grass’ was however sealed.

Okwiri landed a wildcard to the world games that also acts as 2016 Olympics qualifiers, but failed to travel in the last minute after the Ministry of Sports and Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) could not agree on a possible way of coming up with the air ticket and allowances for the boxer, something that saw Kenya miss a chance to win an early ticket to Rio. Twenty-three boxers will qualify to Rio games.

BAK had accused the ministry of failing to release the funds, but Oluoch refuted the claims, saying it is BAK to blame for the confusion after they “failed to collect the air tickets” from the ministry.

“The air tickets were ready by Thursday, two todays before his departure. We told the federation to look for some little money for his upkeep and that was all going to be refunded once the processing

from the ministry was complete, but they never did that,” Oluoch told X-Sport.

“It has come as a surprise after the federation decided to cancel Rayton’s trip to Qatar.”

“It is unfortunate because these people have just come from African Games where they were paid handsomely by the same government, therefore cannot claim they had nothing to spend while waiting for the ministry to release the money,” he said.

Oluoch, who did not reveal the full amount BAK had requested, said the ministry had purchased three air ticket for the boxer, his coach and a third official from the federation.

Blatter faces 90-day suspension over graft

Fifa president Sepp Blatter faces a 90-day provisional suspension on corruption charges.

Members of Fifa’s ethics committee have recommended the sanction after Swiss attorney general opened criminal proceedings against the 79-year-old FIFA boss.

He is accused of signing a contract “unfavourable” to football’s governing body and making a “disloyal payment” to Uefa president Michel Platini.

Blatter denies any wrong doing with his lawyers maintaining he had “not been notified of any action”.

European football’s chief Platini who is interested in succeeding Blatter - has said the payment was “valid compensation” from his time working under the Swiss more than nine years ago.

The probe chamber of Fifa’s ethics committee has requested the ban and a final decision is likely to be made late today by the head of Fifa’s ethics adjudicatory chamber, Hans Joachim Eckhert.

Blatter’s adviser Klauss Stohlker had said the Fifa president was “calm” after being told the news, but a statement from his legal representatives denied he had been made aware of any decision.

“We would expect that the ethics committee would want to hear from the president and his counsel, and conduct a thorough review of the evidence, before making any recommendation to take disciplinary action,” said Blatter’s legal team in a statement.

On Wednesday, Blatter told a German Magazine that he was being “condemned without any evidence for wrongdoing”.

The investigation is centred on allegations believed to be around a 2005 TV rights deal between Fifa and Jack Warner, the former president of Concacaf, the governing body of football in North and

Central America and the Caribbean.

The Frenchman has provided information to the criminal investigation, but said he has done so as a witness.

Swiss prosecutors said he is being treated as “in between a witness and an accused person” as they investigate corruption at world football’s governing body.

Emphatic Stars beat Mauritius K

enya began its campaign for the next Fifa World Cup tornament in emphatic fashion beating hosts Mauritius 5-2 away in Port Louis.

Midfielder Johanna Omollo bagged a breace with one goal apiece from defender Harun Shakava, winger Ayub Timbe and striker Michael Olunga completing the rout. Kenya led 2-0 at the break before Shakava extended their lead to 3-0. But the hosts got back into the game scoring in the 68th minute through a penalty and adding another in the 77th minute to leave the scores at 2-3 with barely 15 minutes remaining.

And Stars players will have no time to rest with a return leg scheduled for Sunday in Nairobi.

The team is expected to jet back this evening from Mauritius with only one day to shake off the jet lag before they take to the field again on Sunday.

The result was so significant to both the federation, the technical

bench and fans. It was a record away result Harambee Stars have posted in a qualifying tournament and a third win in an away qualifiers. It was also Bobby Williamson’s first win with the senior national team since taking over the Sh2.5m job from Belgian tactician Adel Amrouche in August 2014. The team will take to the field against the same opponents in a return leg on Sunday at the Safaricom Stadium.

Stars found themselves under a lot of pressure early in the second half after Williamson withdrew defender David Ochieng for Musa Mohammed who gave away a penalty, allowing the host to come within a goal after another quick goal following defensive lull by the Stars.

Omollo’s brace, completed in the 83rd minute after his opener in the 19 minute took off the weight from Stars’ shoulders after the host scored two quick goals within 12 minutes. Timbe, who

plies his trade in Belgium scored his second international goal and Stars’ second of the evening directly from a well delivered corner-kick to give Kenya a 2-0 lead at the break.

Jean Steve Jonathan sent Boniface Oluoch shopping with his 68th spot kick before skipper Kevin Bru, who plies his trade with England’s Championship side Ipswich Town doubled Mauritius effort in the 77th minute to send panic into Kenyan side.

Harun Shakava got his first international goal before paving way for Olunga who hit home his fourth goal in national team colours after beating Mauritius defence to slot home Stars’s fifth.

Stars will next face Cape Verde should they see off Mauritius. The winner will then join a pool of 20 teams drawn into five pools for a marathon search for the tickets to Russia 2018. Winner of each of the five pools will automatically qualify to the world cup.
