hief Justice Willy Mutunga has today defended his tenure at the judiciary, saying he has completed his transformation agenda and can now set his eyes on retiring honourably. Dr Mutunga whose term constitutionally expires on June 22, 2017 is set to retire a year earlier to give the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) enough time to recruit his successor ahead of the 2017 General Elections. Speaking on Citizen TV programme Cheche earlier today, the
Chief Justice said he has already completed what he wanted to do at the Judiciary, taking satisfaction in restoring pride and regaining its independence. “Four years ago, the independence of the Judiciary was in doubt. Today, the independence of the Judiciary is fully asserted and the co-equal organs of government all know that the Judiciary is an organ of consequence; not to be taken for granted anymore,” he said.
