In a move that targets to limit the number of criminals in remand prisons, suspects and accused persons shall be placed under the supervision of probation and aftercare officials where bail or bond is granted either by police or judicial officers.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga says the correctional facilities are too overstretched to accommodate more inmates.

Mutunga says a total of 53, 789 inmates are serving sentences in prisons with another 20, 544 in remand. The numbers have piled the figure of those in custody beyond double the number the facilities can accommodate.

“These numbers should give all of us pause. Prisons

in Kenya are holding 53,789 inmates, which is twice the number they were built to accommodate.

Such is the nature of prison, unfortunately, that the authorities can never turn away those sent there by courts,” Mutunga said on Friday when he launched a new policy guideline for the issuing of bail and bond to suspects.

“It has been famously remarked that prisons are not hotels or holiday camps.

Even the most humane institutions of incarceration, and ours are improving, basically exist to restrict liberty, and use must be a last resort,” he said.

The policy guideline is expected to

remove inconsistencies in issuing of bail and bond. The CJ said issuing of bail and bond is meant to protect the right of victims of crime and not to help them evade justice.

“Our courts have not always been consistent in administering bail and bond, giving rise to numerous complaints. The Office of the Judiciary Ombudsperson has received many complaints about exorbitant, unjustifiable and unaffordable bail conditions,” he said.

“On the flipside, there are many criminal

elements who abscond court summons in traffic and other petty cases, or have presented fake title deeds and logbooks as security, thus frustrating an opportunity for upholding the right to liberty forcing courts to adopt increasingly stern measures to prevent fraud.”

He said where bail or bond is granted, either by police or judicial officers, suspects and accused persons shall be placed under supervision of probation and aftercare officials, police and local administrators, such as chiefs.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet in a speech read by the Director of the Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro welcomed the guidelines, saying they will assist judges especially in dealing with terror suspects.

He said terror threat remains real, adding that the bond and bail policy guidelines will ensure terror suspects are not granted bond without due consideration of dangers they pose to society.

“From the National Police Service perspective, we fully acknowledge and

uphold the provision of Article 49 (1) on the right of accused persons to be granted bail. This we do by ensuring misdemeanor offenders are not kept in our custody unnecessarily before they appear,” he said.

“We do, however, face challenges when serious offenders are released on bond whose terms sometimes are not respected. At other instances, we have had the accused being injured by members of the public upon release due to the perception that the commensurate punishment is not being meted out.”

PS denies Sh1.5m Namwamba ‘tea’ claim over report Defence Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo was earlier today put on the spot by the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee members over claims that he bribed Public Accounts Committee colleagues.

PAC Chairman Ababu Namwamba during his questioning by PPPC colleagues claimed that Iringo had bribed members of his committee to delete adverse mention of his name in an audit report.

He presented audio recording to the committee on a flash disk to back the claims.

Namwamba claims members of his team, including vice chairperson Cecily Mbarire, received Sh1.5million bribe from Iringo and a promise of defence contracts to delete adverse mentions of the PS in their report.

But Iringo said he has never bribed an MP. “I have never bribed any MP and no MP has ever asked me for a bribe,” he told the committee chaired by Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi.

Earlier last week, Iringo had termed the allegations as “nonsense” and threatened to take a legal action against those implicating him.

“I am shocked by the continued peddling of falsehoods of bribing Honourable Members of Parliament. I wish to categorically state that the reports are false, malicious and unfounded and are without any basis whatsoever,” he said then.

“I challenge those shielding behind the veil of parliamentary immunity to come out in the open and repeat the same allegations so as to afford me a fair chance of responding to

them,” he said.

The MPs were investigation questions raised by the Auditor General over the expenditure at the Office of the President where Iringo previously served as PS for Internal Security.

But Iringo said the issue of confidential expenditure had been put to rest as he had satisfactorily responded to the PAC over queries raised by the Auditor General.

His appearance before the Privileges Committee will give him a chance to clear his name should the MPs declare him innocent.

Some MPs have claimed Iringo had promised them business at the Defence ministry if ‘they did his work’.

But Iringo insists the allegations are being propagated to serve some political games.

Man sneaks bhang rolls into police custody

Twitter will sell your tweets to advertising companies Twitter is reportedly looking at ways to make money by selling people’s tweets to other companies. These firms, known as ‘data miners’, would use the content in the tweets to personalise services from advertisers and marketers online, as well as in the real world.

Twitter’s data strategy chief, Chris Moody said the data could also be used by police to gauge the mood of a football crowd, for instance. “You bring your data to us we can provide advertisements to them,” explains Moody.

“Twitter gives this fascinating ability to understand people in

context like we’ve never been able to do before,” he added.

He stressed that this would be done anonymously and no private information would be shared.

And unless tweets are protected, they can be searched for and viewed easily already.

As a result there are firms that have developed their own methods to extract information from tweets. Twitter has 288 million active monthly users and recent figures show that sales of data on the site amount to around $70 million (Sh6.4 billion) in revenue each year.

Ngong man stabs brother to death over DVD player A 22-year-old man is being held by police in Ngong for killing of his brother while a suspected thug was gunned down in Kawangware in what police described as a foiled robbery attempt.

Elsewhere in Ngumo, a butcher was shot and seriously wounded before being robbed of Sh200,000 crime incidences in Nairobi appear to soar.

In the Ngong case, police say Holistas Isanya stabbed his 31 year-old brother Paul Mungeta on the neck after he realised that the victim had sold his DVD player. Police said the assailant who was agitated by his brother’s move to sell his DVD player without permission.

An argument that ensued as he sought an answer on the matter turned fatal.

The suspect is said to have surrendered himself to the police after the incident.

Police were set to conclude their investigations before he could be arraigned in court.

In Kawangware, a suspected gangster was killed as five of his accomplices escaped after police foiled their mission to rob a supermarket in the area.

A man has been arrested after he tried to sneak three rolls of bhang to his brother who was being held in police custody at the Kilimani police station.

The suspect was visiting his friend today morning when he stuffed the rolls into a loaf of bread. Police say he handed the bread and tea that he was delivering to the murder suspect to officers manning the cells for inspection when the three rolls fell from the bread as a search was being conducted. Witnesses say the suspect tried to escape from the report office but was arrested at the main gate and upon further search, two more rolls were found in his socks.

The body was discovered there long after he had died and police blame the situation on illegal connections that are rampant there.

Singapore mourns death of founding father Lee Kuan Yew Singapore has begun seven days of national mourning following the death of its founding father, Lee Kuan Yew. Mr Lee, who was 91, led Singapore’s transformation from a small port city to one of the wealthiest nations in the world.

World leaders have paid tribute to Mr Lee, who served as the citystate’s prime minister for 31 years.

US President Barack Obama described him as a “giant of history” whose advice had been sought by other world leaders.

The Chinese foreign ministry called him “a uniquely influential statesman in Asia” and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was “deeply saddened” by Mr Lee’s death. The period of national mourning will culminate in a state funeral next Sunday and Mr Lee’s body is to lie in state at parliament from Wednesday to Saturday.

A private family wake is taking place on Monday and Tuesday.

News of Mr Lee’s death came in a government statement that said he had “passed away peacefully” in the early hours of Monday at Singapore General Hospital. Mr Lee had been in hospital for several weeks with pneumonia and was on

life support. State television broke away from its normal schedules and broadcast rolling tributes.

A steady stream of Singaporeans, many openly grieving, arrived at the hospital where an area has been set aside for flowers and other tributes.

“I’m so sad. He is my idol. He’s been so good to me, my family and everyone,” said resident Lua Su Yean, 64.

“His biggest achievement is that from zero he’s built up today’s Singapore.”

A hearse carrying Mr Lee’s body later arrived at the Istana, the prime minister’s official residence, where a book of condolence has been set up.

In an emotional televised address, Mr Lee’s son, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, paid tribute to him.

“He fought for our independence, built a nation where there was none, and made us proud to be Singaporeans. We won’t see another man like him.”

Lee Kuan Yew - widely known LKY - oversaw Singapore’s independence from Britain and separation from Malaysia and co-founded the People’s Action Party (PAP), which has governed Singapore since 1959.

Ebola outbreak to end in August: UN The Ebola outbreak in West Africa will be over by August, the head of the UN Ebola mission has told the BBC. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed admitted the UN had made mistakes in handling the crisis early on, sometimes acting “arrogantly”.

A year after the outbreak was officially declared, the virus has killed more than 10,000 people.

The medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres says a “global coalition of inaction” led to tragic consequences.

Looking back over the year, the charity suggests its early calls for help were ignored by local governments and the World Health Organization.

Most deaths occurred in the worst-affected countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The head of the UN Ebola response mission told the BBC,

when the virus first struck, “there was probably a lack of knowledge and there was a certain degree of arrogance, but I think we are learning lessons.

“We have been running away from giving any specific date, but I am pretty sure myself that it will be gone by the summer.”

The first person to succumb to the disease during this outbreak is thought to have been a toddler in a remote part of Guinea. He died in December 2013.

Henry Gray, MSF emergency coordinator, told the BBC: “We were well aware this was something different in March and April last year and we did try to bring this to the attention of the WHO but also governments within the countries affected.

“And of course it was frustrating that we weren’t heard and that has probably led to the scale of the epidemic we see today.”

SiERRA LEONE iMpOSES CuRfEW tO CONtAiN SpREAD Of EbOLA Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has ordered a new national lockdown in a fresh effort to curtail the spread of Ebola which is slowly rising again in the West African nation.

The lockdown was announced Saturday during the launched of a campaign called “Zero Ebola,” in which almost all Sierra Leoneans are supposed to stay indoors March 27-29 and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on three consecutive Saturdays of April 4, 11 and 18.

“The campaign will provide an opportunity for communities to be directly involved in the drive to zero cases, to reflect and to pray for the eradication of this disease from our country,” he said in a statement.

Sierra Leon tried a three-day lockdown last September in what was primarily an informational campaign, with volunteers going door-to-door to talk with residents about the virus. In August, the Liberian government locked down one of the poorest neighborhoods in the capital of Monrovia in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus. The move resulted in riots.

No commercial activity is supposed to occur during the upcoming lockdown, Koroma said. Because March 29 is Palm Sunday, church services

will be allowed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Health workers, journalists and public safety officers are exempted.

Koroma noted that his country has made “tremendous progress” in the fight against the deadly disease as the Ministry of Health reported zero new infections Friday.

He warned that the rate of transmissions may increase during the upcoming rainy season.

“The economic development of our country and the lives of our people continue to be threatened by the ongoing presence of Ebola in Sierra Leone,” he said. “The future of our country and the aspirations of our children are at

stake.”

During Sierra Leone’s lockdown last year, Doctors Without Borders said such an effort is unlikely to stop the spread of the disease.

“Large-scale coercive measures like forced quarantines and lockdowns are driving people underground and jeopardizing the trust between people and health providers,” the charity group said in a statement. “This is leading to the concealment of cases and is pushing the sick away from health systems.”

Sierra Leone has the largest number of confirmed Ebola cases -- 11,751 so far, according to the World Health Organization.

WHO says Liberia has the highest number of deaths at 4,264.

So far, 10,194 have died from Ebola and 24,701 have been infected, according to the world body.

The National Institutes for Health said Thursday it will admit an American health care worker with Ebola to its Maryland hospital. The person was volunteering at an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last Tuesday that 15 American aid workers who had high-risk exposure to Ebola in Sierra Leone have arrived back in the United States for monitoring. None is known to be infected with the disease.

Boma Group, Alpine Centre to open hospitality institute Alpine Centre, a Swiss business school for hotel and tourism management education has signed an agreement with Boma Hotels Group for the setting up of a school in Nairobi.

The school will offer training on hospitality operations and management and is set to open on May 25. The institution will have two intakes per year.

Boma Group Managing Director Mugo Maringa said the school will resolve issues in the training of professionals in the hospitality sector to ensure improved

standards for the sector.

“The aim of Boma International Hospitality College is to address the current and long term needs of the industry and her graduates. We shall concentrate on training of specialists, not generalists; craftsmen, not ‘chiefs’ and allow enough time for practical training and couching in a top class hotel environment,” said Mugo.

The school will strive to inculcate practical training for students to ensure they are ready for the job market on graduation.

“Our graduates will be able to perform beyond employers’ expectations from day one and save employer time and money that is usually spent on training new employees. This will make the graduates the preferred candidates in the job market,” said Mugo.

The agreement was facilitated by Rainbow Unlimited, a Swiss-based private company that advises and guides SMEs from Switzerland in African business ventures.

The pests are developing resistance to the methods, further fanning attacks on crops.

IMF to co-operate with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank The IMF will cooperate with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which has been viewed as a World Bank rival.

AIIB is an international financial institution that has been proposed by China for the financing of infrastructure projects in Asia.

It was set up in 2014 and has set up an initial $50billionn (Sh4.6trillion) capital.

US has criticised the bank, saying it is a rival to the World Bank and a way for Beijing to extend influence in the region.

Christine Lagarde, the CEO of International Monetary Fund (IMF), has said the fund is willing to co-operate with

the China-led bank. She said there was room for IMF co-operation with AIIB on infrastructure financing.

The bank has more than 30 members, including UK while Germany and France are also set to join. UK in a statement said joining was an opportunity for UK and Asia to invest and grow together.

US has heavily criticised UK and other allies for supporting the bank with the White House saying it hopes London will use its voice to push for adoption of high standards.

Countries have until March 31 to decide whether to seek AIIB membership.

“In the past, people have donated a lot of unnecessary stuff to needy homes just because they want to clear the clutter in their homes,” says Kamau.

Some of the things they donate are never used by the children’s homes. “It is more rewarding to bless a child with what they need than what they don’t need,” explains the DJ. Kenya is home to more than 40 million people and more than 10 million (almost a quarter of the population) are chronically food insecure, numbers from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have shown.

This means that many children’s homes can barely afford to feed their occupants and is also the reason initiatives like Sell-toBless have sprung up.

“After successfully selling unused goods on OLX, the sellers will go to any Tuskys supermarket branch and shop for dry food stuff or buy vouchers from Tuskys supermarkets, which will also be used as the drop-off points,” explains DJ Soxxy.

The public will get a chance to nominate and vote for their preferred children’s homes through live TV-shows on Sunday mornings as well as on social media.

Meanwhile, various artists will visit the selected children’s homes and hold concerts to entertain the children while delivering donations from the public. Those planning on participating can also play their part by visiting ‘selltobless. org’, where anyone can make a pledge. The public can also make pledges on placards located in any Tusky’s outlet.

He is one of the biggest artistes in Kenya, having managed to remain relevant by constantly releasing content and collaborating with other artistes. He is set to release his third album, Legend of Kaka, this Friday. This is his story.

ho are you?

I am a simple guy who loves music and poetry.

Why are you changing your name from Rabbit to King Kaka?

It is just rebranding. People do not rebrand because they are in a certain space, they rebrand because they feel they are growing. That is what I feel, my brand is growing. It is a vision I had from way back. So far so good, my fans adapt so well and they are quick. I am still the same guy, just with a little twist.

Will that change your sound too?

My sound has changed just a little bit. Like a 10% change but I will let the people decide. My fans know my sound so when they listen they will know.

Are you the newest king of collabos?

No, that is not my plan. I record so many songs all the time and collabos mean I get different elements from the other artiste. When you do a collabo you get to exchange fans. We are just experimenting and so far the collabos are doing well and are in the album. The Collabos I do are strategic. I just don’t wake up one day and decide to do a collabo.

What is your beef with airplay in Kenya?

I have no beef, I was just saying what was in my heart. Play whoever you want to play but at least play more Kenyan music. When I travel for shows I always listen to a CD or songs on a flash disk. So one time I decide I should listen to radio, It was so sad. In an hour, the station only played two Kenyan songs. I switched to another station to see if there was a difference bust sadly it was the same situation. If the only songs Kenyans are hearing are of Davido (I have nothing against him he is a great artiste), they will go to clubs and request his songs instead of Kenyan songs. What people do not get is that everything is connected. The more you play Kenyan music the more money the entertainment field will get. The more Kenyan music is played, the more people show up for the artiste’s concerts the more money is churned out to artistes, promoters and the entertainment industry. The moment people get this it will be a game changer.

Who is your mentor musically?

DJ Loop, he was the first producer who believed in me back then when I was starting out. We have been in contact since then and I respect his views every time I do something. He is the first person who made me realise anything is possible if you put in the work. I also admire Juliani, I like his work ethic and he is always up to something.

Why have you decided to use a live band during your album launch?

I have been performing with a live band since the release of my third album. The

experience was great and I have been doing live gigs since then and the response I get has been amazing, people have loved it. Plus I have a band already, called King’s Band.

Take us through your musical journey.

It has been a tough one and I have grown which motivates me. I am growing and I can see it and feel it. My brother Nutcase, who is also my inspiration, used to rap and I picked up where he left off. I used to dance then I just woke up one day and decided on music. My big brother, Kevo got me a green notebook and I started writing my music there. Two years later I met DJ Loop and he introduced me to Chiwawa which was a dream come true for me. I listened to him while I was in high school and I really admired him. I started by being Chiwawa’s back up rapper. I did my first album and recorded it for a whole year.

Six mix tapes and 3 albums with a fourth one on the way never looked back.

Where do you get inspiration for your music?

I like real life stories. I am always looking for stories to tell through my music. It may be something that happened to me or people close to me. I want to talk about things that are different. If you want to know me better, listen to my music. I always put in a puzzle for the fans to decode.

What is different in your new album, Legend of Kaka?

It is a 17 track album with a bonus track. I had recorded 25 songs and I had to narrow it down to 17 which was the hardest decision of my life. I have crossed borders with this album.

The sound is a bit different from my other three albums and the quality has gone up. People will get to see a different side of me.

Is there a Mrs King Kaka?

No. I am not seeing anyone at the moment but I have two daughters. I will get married at 35 because that is when I feel I will be ready.

What is next for King Kaka?

I will embark on the Seven-four tour across East Africa, seven years, four albums. I will tour Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa and Kenya. Secondly, I am hoping Kaka Empire will grow to greater heights.

immon Mwenyeki and Lydia Njihia had been planning their wedding since last year. Lydia recalls vividly when the love of her life surprised her by going down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. “It was such a pleasant surprise and I said yes because he is the only man I love. Simmon is charming, easy to talk to, open and real,” the happy bride told X Access.

One year later, last Saturday, the ACK Church Kasarani filled with elated family and friends, who had come to witness the union of the two.

The church was decorated in blue and green with white rose flower bouquets aligning the pews adjacent to the aisle.

Simmon and his men patiently waited for the arrival of the bride. As the boys chatted and laughed, the soft spoken groom in a black suit, white half coat and tie could not hide the glow on his face. He was finally going to keep his promise of making Lydia his wife.

“I love her so much for her absolute character.

She is humble, committed honest and cares for me so much even at my worst,” he gushed.

The long wait finally came to an end when the bride pulled in.

Eager to see her walk down the aisle, everybody inside the church settled down and Simmon took his position at the altar.

The jovial bridal party meticulously made their way in. They were dressed in blue long dresses except the best maid who wore green.

Green and blue were the couple’s colours of choice, which they say was inspired by nature.

“We wanted something that gave a lively connection to the splendour of nature,” Lydia told us.

When her moment to take the aisle came, Lydia was escorted by her parents. As she elegantly made her strides towards Simmon, she gently smiled underneath her veil. She looked like a queen in her figure clinging A-line gown with glitzy details from Abigail Bridals.

Her parents handed her to Simmon with glee and blessings. The officiating preacher took over and legally bound the two.

Vows were exchanged in intimate tones, rings put on and their marriage certificate signed.

What followed were words of encouragement and blessings to clock off the church ceremony.

With so much joy and jubilation, they danced their way out of church and left for a photoshoot session at The Norfolk, Fairmont. Guests were, however, directed to the KCB grounds to enjoy a sumptuous meal.

After the photo session, the wedding entourage joined their guests at the reception. They were received by an enthusiastic crowd with song and dance. Simmon and Lydia did not disappoint either as they also broke into well-orchestrated dance moves to the tunes.

And when they settled down, musician Wyre, the groom’s cousin, took over the mic and dropped some of his beats.

The food was delicious and the cake, from Royal Delight, was a sweet delicacy, that had people going for more.

Simmon and Lydia were happy that their wedding, estimated at Sh900,000, had been spectacular.

“Our next step is the honeymoon, which you will know as about soon as we are back in the country,” Lydia told XAccess.

Rudisha stamps 800m authority in Melbourne Olympic champion David Rudisha showed his class with a second win over 800m in two Australian races.

The world record holder found a little extra along the straight just when it seemed Jeff Riseley might pull off an upset at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Melbourne on Saturday.

Rudisha recorded 1:44.94.

Rudisha maintained his undefeated record over 800m in Australia after victory in Sydney a week earlier in 1:45.01, but the world record-holder did not have it all his own way.

Alex Rowe clung to his heels for 600m before the co-Australian record-holder gave way. Then Riseley pushed past Rowe and

took some ground out of the great man around the final bend.

Just as it seemed his momentum would carry him on to Rudisha’s shoulder, however, the Olympic champion found another gear to win comfortably enough, 1:44.94 to 1:45.29.

“I knew I was there,” Rudisha said of Riseley’s charge. “I had a bit more to give.”# Meanwhile World champion Asbel Kiprop opened the track season with a cool 1:44.4 run in the men’s 800m at Athletics Kenya third relay series on Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Kiprop, who is priming for his 1,500m title defence at the World championships in August in

Beijing, led from the gun. He strode away from the chasing pack led by the World champion Alfred Kipketer with about 100m to go.

Kiwi paceman Adam Milne ruled out of rest of Cricket World Cup RULED OUT: Adam Milne picked up the complaint during New Zealand’s quarter-final at the Wellington Regional Stadium.

N e w Zealand pace bowler Adam Milne will be missing from the squad for the semi-final against South Africa in Auckland and indeed the remainder of their Cricket World Cup campaign should they reach next Sunday’s final in Melbourne. The 22-year-old has suffered severe bruising to his left heel following the quarterfinal win over West Indies, and according to the New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson, it could be some weeks before he is fit again.

Subject to the approval of the ICC tournament committee he is set to be replaced by Matt Henry, who was impressive for New Zealand against Pakistan in UAE at the end of last year, and was considered unlucky to miss out this time. Henry will be competing with Mitchell McClenaghan and Kyle Mills for the final place, although a decision is not likely to be made until the morning of the semifinal.

Milne has become an important member of a potent Black Caps attack, usually as first change, and has played in six of the seven matches to date, missing out only in the win over Bangladesh.

His five wickets have come at almost 40 runs apiece, but his value has been the contrast his high pace has provided to the

swing of Trent Boult and Tim Southee.

“It is one of those injuries that he has had for maybe two weeks but he was pain free,” said Hesson.

“He got through the quarterfinal OK but it flared up to the point where it it has become increasingly uncomfortable for him. Adam was told this morning, and is obviously very disappointed. He is gutted and the other players are gutted for him. He is a popular member of the group.”

There is a chance that Henry could leapfrog both McClenaghan and Mills and go straight into the team.

McClenaghan has played a single match and Mills none, while Henry has been involved in regular cricket for Canterbury. “That is certainly to his advantage,” agreed Hesson.

Henry, 23, is one of the faster bowlers in New Zealand, reaching 90 mph regularly and in his eight ODI appearances has taken 21 wickets at 15.42 runs apiece, including 4-38 against India in Wellington on his debut just over a year ago after he had been called up as cover.

Rey Mysterio Jr. flying kick kills Mexican wrestler The son of a Mexican wrestling legend died early Saturday from a blow suffered in the ring, the Baja California state prosecutor’s office said.

Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, known as Hijo del Perro Aguayo, fell unconscious on the ropes, apparently after receiving a flying kick from fellow wrestler Oscar Gutierrez, known as former WWE star Rey Mysterio Jr., according to video of the match in a municipal auditorium in Tijuana.

The match continued for almost two minutes before other participants and the referee realized Aguayo was seriously injured and tended to him.

He was taken to a hospital a block away and died about 1:30 a.m., prosecutor’s spokesman Raul Gutierrez said.

“I have no words for this terrible news,” Joaquin Roldan, director of the AAA wrestling federation, said through his Twitter account.

“My sincerest condolences for the Aguayo Ramirez family.”

The state prosecutor’s office said the cause of death, based on the autopsy, was trauma to the neck and a cervical fracture. It has opened an investigation into possible manslaughter.

Even though the match continued as Aguayo hung listless on the ropes, commission President Juan Carlos Pelayo said people moved immediately to check his condition. He said the doctor in charge was not at ringside because he was treating another injured wrestler, but paramedics and a doctor who was a spectator attended to Aguayo.

Mexico is famous for its colorful characters and costumes in professional wrestling, popularly known as lucha libre, where fighters perform daring aerial maneuvers inside and outside the ring.

Aguayo, 35, had wrestled for 20 years and was the son of the legendary Pedro “Perro” Aguayo, now retired and a member of the Aztec lucha Hall of Fame.

Quins stun Kabras in Enterprise cup Kabras Sugar suffered a 30-39 defeat to Kenya Harlequins RFC in the knockout Enterprise Cup at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds.

Kabras scored first through a penalty by Ivan Chilabo in the third minute of play. Lyle Asiligwa replied for Quins from a Lyle Asiligwa penalty two minutes later.

Gor register third league win in a row Champions Gor Mahia yesterday hit Chemelil Sugar 3-1 to register a third successive Premier League win for the 2015 season. The win came just three days after a 2-1 win over Bandari at City Stadium.

The result has excited Frank Nuttal especially as the Kenyan champions face Congolese side AC Leopards in the first round return leg next weekend in Brazaville in the Africa Champions League campaign.

Gor play Sony Sugar on Wednesday and if they register another win, they are likely to draw huge amounts of confidence for the Leopards tie after trailing 1-0 from the first leg.

Neat Suarez strike settles El Clásico

Luis Suarez drilled in a brilliant second-half winner as Barcelona maintained control of the Spanish title race by beating Real Madrid in a pulsating El Clasico.
