ust days after locking out heavy commercial trucks from passing through the central business district, the County Government of Nairobi has now turned its attention to up-country buses as it continues with efforts to ease traffic in
the city. Governor Evans Kidero has announced that long-distance matatus have 30 days to relocate their stations from the city center in order to reduce the high number of vehicles in the CBD.
“We have asked all buses that ply upcountry routes to move their terminals from the CBD in 30 days,” Kidero told reporters yesterday after touring Accra Road and River Road which have the largest percentage of long-distance matatus.
An alternative on the cards is to have those matatus ferrying passengers to and from Western regions terminate their journeys in Westlands while those from the coast entering Nairobi via Mombasa Road end around City Cabanas. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
