Governor Chepkwony denies belittling Uhuru T
Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony has dismissed, as photoshop, pictures that showed him seated while the audience rose to welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta to make his speech at a function in Bomet. The pictures that were spread all over social media yesterday showed Prof. Chepkwony and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto remain
seated as other leaders, among them Deputy President William Ruto, rose to welcome Mr Kenyatta to speak. It is a common ritual and a show of respect to the presidency for the audience to rise whenever the head of state stands to address them. But the photo showed the two governors in an apparent rebellion which was seen
as an extension of the expression of their displeasure with the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP), which both President Kenyatta and his Deputy Ruto have undertaken to popularize as their preferred political vehicle to defend their administration in the 2017 general elections. Governor Ruto has openly opposed JAP and even declared that he would not support it.
Prof Chepkwony is a close ally of the Bomet Governor. However, he denied that he remained seated saying the photos were inaccurate and the work of ill-minded individuals who are out to strain his “cordial” relationship with the president.
