Leaders in unity call against terror

eaders have today appealed for peaceful co-existence among Kenyan communities and religions, saying unity is the only way to defeat various challenges facing the country. They singled out terrorism, which has severely

tested the harmonious co-existence between Christians and Muslims in several deadly attacks. Terrorists have often attempted to create divisions between the two religious factions of the Kenyan people by targeting Christians in

their attacks and sometimes inciting Muslims to attack fellow Kenyans who do not subscribe to their faith. Deputy President William Ruto urged Kenyans to remain grateful to God that these machinations have failed.

Bensouda: Evidence against Ruto is weak

International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has admitted that she has insufficient incriminating evidence against Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang. She told ICC judges that five witnesses, who had evidence that can incriminate Ruto, have since recanted their testimonies after they were either bribed or intimidated. A sixth witness withdrew from the case due to similar influences. “As a result, the Prosecution has been deprived of a significant portion of the incriminating evidence that it intended to present to Trial Chamber V (a) in support of its charges,” Bensouda stated in an application filed on May 21. She asked the court to allow her to use statements recorded out of the courtroom. She specifically wants the judges to admit initial statements of the six witnesses, who she argued had incriminating evidence to prove the criminal responsibility of both Ruto and Sang.
