US backs KDF stay in Somalia
T
he United States has supported the continued stay of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops in Somalia, as an exit strategy is being drafted. Visiting US Secretary of State John Kerry said Kenya cannot withdraw its military from Somalia just yet, pointing out that the role the forces are playing is critical in ensuring stability in the Horn of Africa nation. “We need an exit strategy, but it needs to be a success and we need a clearer sense of how the
success will come,” Kerry said. He stressed that the exit strategy needed to be carefully thought out to ensure it did not create more problems for Kenya. “Somalia is making progress; Al Shabaab is being beaten back and is being pushed back and the political system is coming alive again,” he added. “Kenya will be safe if Somalia is more stable, Kenya will safer if South Sudan can resolve its problems; Kenya will be safer if there aren’t more
refuges pouring around the border because those communities cannot pull themselves together,” Kerry said when he addressed a press conference at the Sankara Hotel in Westlands. He pledged the support and willingness of the US to help Kenya ensure peace is restored in the neighbouring countries saying they would increase funding to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) to ensure they had all the necessary assets to accomplish their mission.

US advises KDF to work on Somalia exit plan From Page 1 He said cooperation between the United States and Kenya had seen them spend more than Sh6o billion in the fight against terror adding that this year alone, they had donated $100 million (Sh9.4 billion). “We are deeply engaged in trying to help Kenya. We are working in border security, intelligence sharing, law
enforcement and capacity building. We provide equipment to key sections in the military,” he added. “This is not just a challenge to Kenya, it is a challenge for the whole world… we have to do better in this regard.” He intimated that in the next few weeks Kenya will host a counter violence extremism summit bringing together experts from all over the world to come
up with strategies of depleting the pool of future terrorists. He also maintained that even as the fight against terror takes shape, Kenya should be careful not to infringe on human rights in the process in apparent reference to statements by government officials proposing the closure of the Dadaab refugee camp. Kerry expressed hope that the camp
will remain open until the situation in Somalia is contained further sympathising with Kenya over the challenges brought about by the growing number of refugees who are now threatening the country’s security. He urged the government to accelerate efforts in coming up with a plan for the repatriation of the refugees in a manner that does not go against the refugees
rights. “We have to resolve the underlying problem so that people can go back to their homes in peace. I leave here with a much greater awareness of the challenge, a much more immediate sense of the urgency and a much more commitment to work with the International partners to finish the work and relieve the burden to the people of Kenya,” he said.
Al-Shabaab name banned from media by Somali Government
CHAOTIC SCENES: A soldier stands between demonstrators and riot police facing off in Bujumbura
The Somali Government has told media houses to stop referring to militant group al-Shabab by their name. They instead want the group to be called Ugus, an acronym for the Somali words meaning “the Group that Massacres the Somali People”. Al-Shabab responded by saying the Somali government should be referred to by the same acronym, Ugus. In this case, Ugus means “the Group that Subjects the Somali People to Humiliation”. Al-Shabab, which is affiliated to al-Qaeda, controls many rural parts of southern Somalia. The head of Somalia’s Intelligence and Security Services Gen Abdirahman Mohamud Turyare
told journalists that al-Shabab, which means the youth in Arabic, was “a good name”. “We should not allow this good name to be dirtied. This enemy we are fighting is called Ugus.” Gen Turyare was speaking at the headquarters of information ministry in front of journalists and information ministry officials. However, no mention was made of the punishment for anyone who flouted the ban. The government-controlled Radio Mogadishu and SNTV have already been using the term for a while. Ugus is an acronym for Ururka Gumaadka Ummadda Soomaaliyeed. The new directive could be an
extension of the propaganda war between the Somali government and al-Shabab which has been going on since 2009, when the terrorists declared war on the then president of the Transitional Federal Government, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. Since then, the two sides have been exchanging derogatory messages through their media outlets. Journalists in Somalia are now in a difficult position. They will have to either obey this order and face the wrath of al-Shabab, or refuse to comply with the government directive and face the consequences. The government has previously arrested journalists and shut down radio stations on accusations of endangering national security.
Christianity is fast losing its followers with being the fastest growing religion in the world according to the findings of a new study. A trajectory of world religions over the next four decades says Christians and Muslims will be evenly balanced. An extensive study done by Pew Research Center says Christians are leaving the faith in droves in a trend that is fast altering the world’s religious profile. Differences in fertility rates, the size of youth populations and people switching faiths are the reasons for these changes. According to the study, Christianity will still remain the largest religious group over the
next four decades although Islam will grow faster than any other major religion if current trends continue. As of 2010, Christianity was the dominant world religion with roughly 2.2 billion adherents and Muslims were second with about 1.6 billion adherents. About 106 million Christians are expected to switch affiliation from 2010 to 2050 while only about 40 million people are expected to enter Christianity. The religiously unaffiliated (atheists, agnostics) are expected to see the largest net gains from switching, adding more than 61 million followers. Demographic projections say Muslims will make up 10 percent
of the overall population in Europe while India will retain a Hindu majority but also will have the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, surpassing Indonesia. In the United States, Christians will decline from more than threequarters of the population in 2010 to two-thirds in 2050. Four out of every 10 Christians in the world will live in sub-Saharan Africa. The study took into account the current size and geographic distribution of the world’s major religions, age differences, fertility and mortality rates, international migration and patterns in conversion.
Burundi court backs Nkurunziza re-election Islam gaining popularity BID AS MORE ARE KILLED over Christianity—study
Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza can run for a third term, according to the country’s constitutional court, Under the constitution, presidents can only be elected to two terms in office but it was argued that his first term does not count as he was appointed by parliament. His third-term bid has led to more than a week of deadly protests. The court’s decision comes after the court’s vice-president, Sylvere Nimpagaritse, reportedly fled the country citing “death threats”. Nimpagaritse also told the AFP news agency that the court’s judges have faced “death threats”. Meanwhile, the US yesterday put more pressure on President Nkurunziza to withdraw
his candidature as deadly protests resumed in the capital Bujumbura with at least four people shot dead. The deaths, which were confirmed by Red Cross, brings to 13 the official death toll from the protests which began more than a week ago. “The police have been using live ammunition for several days. The situation is really tense and it seems to be getting more and more tense. The President is not backing down. And the protesters seem to be just carrying on with their protests.” Carina Tertsakian, a senior researcher on Burundi for Human Rights Watch amid fears that the ongoing violence could escalate. US Secretary of State John Kerry has urged Mr Nkurunziza to
abandon his re-election bid. “We are deeply concerned about President Pierre Nkurunziza’s decision, which flies directly in the face of the constitution of this country,” he said in Nairobi on the second day of his visit to Kenya. Under Burundi’s constitution, presidents can only be elected to two terms in office, but Mr Nkurunziza’s allies say his first term does not count as he was appointed by parliament. And the government has since banned the protests. It accuses those protesting of being “insurrectional.” But more than 1,000 people are on the streets of Bujumbura’s Musaga neighbourhood in defiance of the ban.

The report, dubbed the 2015 Youthful Cities Index, has found that while Nairobi’s numbers are disappointing, the city still ranks higher than most of its counterparts from across the continent. Kenya’s capital managed to make it to a list of top 5 cities where young people can access medical care. Johannesburg ranked first with 18 per cent of its youth able to access healthcare. Durban and Accra were second and third with 16 and 15 per cent of their youth accessing medical care respectively. Nairobi was fourth while Lagos was fifth, having made healthcare

accessible to roughly 13 per cent of its urban youth. The study indicates that for every 100 young people in Nairobi, only 14 can say that they can afford to see a doctor or visit a hospital. “Youth are at the center of urbanization,” explains the youthful Cities group. “They build a city’s competitive edge, stimulate development and find new solutions”. In 2012, the group discovered that 50 per cent of the world’s population is under 30 years of age and 50 per cent of the world’s population now lives in cities. “The future of the world will be determined by the progression of urbanization as it is molded by youth,” says the organisation.
Two time world marathon champion Catherine Ndereba was left unhurt after a gang raided her home in Karen and stole household goods and an unknown amount of cash. The gang also made away with Kenya Prisons uniform that they found at the home. Police say they have launched investigations into the incident. The former world record holder was in the house with her family when the gang struck. No one was injured. Ndereba who won four Boston Marathon titles and two Chicago Marathon crowns, is still serving as a Kenya Prisons’ warder.

Fears of attacks cloud return of PEV refugees
COMING HOME: Hannah Wambui, a Kenyan refugee living in the Kiryandongo refugee settlement, with her children.
Kenyans who sought refuge in Uganda following the 2007/2008 post-election violence have begun their return back into the country today, with most of them worried that they may not be welcome. Some 720 of the 1485 Kenyan refugees who have been living in Kiryandongo camp in Uganda were expected at the Malaba border shortly after midday today where they would be received by both Kenyan and Ugandan government officials and representatives of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). UNHCR spokesperson Emmanuel Nyabera told X News the exercise is being coordinated by all the three agencies. The convoy is expected to arrive at the Malaba Dispensary shortly after noon where 100 tents are being pitched. However, reports indicate that some of the refugees are too scared to return to the country. UN refugee agency (UNHCR) office has said that the many refugees are still
traumatized. “Some doubt they will ever go back to their former homes,” UNHCR said. The Head of the UNHCR emergency response team deployed to Uganda Yumiko Takashima, said many of the refugees fear more attacks if they go back home. More than half of the families at Mulanda are headed by women after their husbands were killed during the violence. UNHCR and other aid organizations distribute food and non-food items and provide the refugees with access to water and sanitation facilities. Education for children and basic health care are also available while World Vision is looking at the psyco-social needs of the refugees. UNHCR has also reported that majority of the Kenyan refugees in Uganda are not aware that they are refugees. They have also been blaming the Kenyan government for failing to bring them back home. At least 1,500 Kenyan refugees are still stuck in Uganda, seven years since they fled the skirmishes of 2007/2008.
Two police officers who shot dead and AP colleague and two of his relatives in Kangemi over an alleged robbery will soon be arraigned in court to face murder charges. The DPP has agreed with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority who recommended that the two be charged with murder. This is after the authority investigated the circumstances of the fatal shooting that took place on October 7 last year. The officers shot dead AP Constable Joseph Obongo Makori, attached to Bomachoge MP Joel Onyancha, and his two relatives Geoffrey Mogoi and Amos Okenye. They have maintained that the three were robbers.
Kidero urges MCAs to pass bills Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has told MCAs to pass bills saying it is not a favour to the county government. He said passing bills was not a favour to the public but a role that the leaders were elected to do. “Many of the MCAs have been refusing to pass or attend to bills thinking that they are doing the Executive a favour yet it is a very important and critical role they play in the formulation of laws that govern county Governments,” he complained. Passing of the bills is for the good of the county and not the Executive. Refusal to pass such bills in not a punishment for the executive but the same people who elected you,” Kidero said.

World Bank loans Kenya Sh3.5b MAIN STORY
Kenya will receive a Sh3.5billion credit from the World Bank Group under a new finance program. The loan is aimed at improving financial stability by ensuring more affordable and long term financing in the country under the new program dubbed Kenya Financial Sector Support Project. (KFSSP) “Kenya’s financial sector is the third largest in sub-Saharan Africa and it makes a significant contribution to economic growth and job creation,” World Bank Country Director Diarietou Gaye explained. “The opportunity for Kenya now is to transform the financial sector to provide more affordable and longer term credit to contribute effectively to growth and shared prosperity,” she said. The program will focus on banks, insurance and pension schemes through a more targeted approach that supports solutions to specific constraints that curtail economic growth and the job creation of the private sector. This will be aimed at improving investment opportunities for institutional and foreign investors. Primary beneficiaries of the program will be the National Treasury, and financial sector regulators including the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Capital Markets Authority (CMA),

Murema Primary School is a Nairobi City
Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority. The new program builds on the reforms that have been supported by the Financial and Legal Sector Technical Assistance Project in the past decade. The World Bank now says the critical need is to consolidate these gains by addressing the remaining gaps and weaknesses in the financial markets, especially as they relate to long term financing needs of Kenya’s development agenda. “The new facility will also facilitate access to and reduce the cost of finance, which are identified as constraints to business growth and job creation” Senior Financial Sector Specialist Smita Wagh says. The Bank’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Kenya and the government’s Vision 2030 identify access to finance as critical to enhancing the prospects for Kenya’s growth, regional competitiveness, and shared prosperity. The World Bank Group pledges to continue to support efforts to increase financial access to improve the enabling environment for private investment, which plays a critical role in Kenya’s development process.

Garden City upgrades school’s water and sanitation facilities
County-run school, less than 5km from the 32 acre Garden City construction site. It is one of few public schools in the area. The institution currently has only one pit latrine block shared by over 1,800 boys and girls. With the help of the Triad architectural group, Garden City has developed a plan to upgrade the existing pit latrines and to construct two additional separate ablution blocks for boys and girls. In addition, Garden City has leveled the
school playing field, which previously had a flood gulley cutting across it making it an unsafe area for children to play on, and is developing a football play area. After breaking ground in 2012, the Garden City Management team met with Professor Edward Kairu, Director of Maji Na Ufanisi, and commissioned a report on the surrounding catchment area. The report was used to identify where Garden City might be able to use the
core skills and resources of its to make a difference to the local community in both a practical and sustainable way. At the ground breaking ceremony, Stuart Blandford, Director of Aspire and Development Director of Garden City, commented: “The creation of Garden City has been undertaken with a firm focus on sustainability. “In addition to environmental sustainability, this focus also extends to creating significant positive and
sustainable social impact amongst the surrounding communities,” he added. “We believe that, as well as the overall project impact of creating thousands of new jobs locally, the social benefits of upgrading facilities at Murema School are huge, and we hope that this demonstrates to other developers how the private sector can work effectively with the public sector to improve social infrastructure.”

customers to continue accessing uninterrupted quality of service. The project will significantly enhance indoor coverage penetration while improving data quality for Airtel 3.75G network users. In February this year, the company announced that it had invested Sh2.5 billion to upgrade its network. Airtel users are now enjoying uninterrupted quality of service on Airtel network in Mombasa and Kitale, following a major modernization of its network infrastructure that was completed in February, Capital FM reports. The company partnered with Nokia Networks, one of the world’s leading specialists in mobile broadband for this upgrade project. “The completion of the network upgrade in Mombasa and Kitale towns now gives our customers a delightful experience, allowing them to take advantage of our superior services and a bouquet of other data services,” said Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi. Rwanda and Seychelles are the first two countries in sub Saharan Africa to commercially deploy the 4G network technology.
Swiss banks track thousands of unclaimed accounts Swiss Banks have reportedly discovered thousands of accounts that have been unclaimed for over 50 years. The accounts, which have been dormant for five decades, were discovered following a new Swiss law that requires banks to publish information on accounts that were opened 60 years ago and have been unclaimed since then. The law has been described as important for the banks by the Swiss government because it allows them to search widely for beneficiaries of the unclaimed wealth before the money is handed over to the government. “The accounts in question, were from both Swiss and foreign customers, that are neither
in time nor geographically associated with Nazism,” a spokeswoman for the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) said. In Switzerland, unclaimed accounts are usually a highly sensitive topic following a campaign by the World Jewish Congress launched in 1995 for Swiss banks to return the assets of Holocaust victims. One account has been tracked and found to have been opened by a German back in 1940 and contains over 1,000 Swiss francs (Sh101,185). Switzerland’s tradition of secrecy laws which Swiss banks use to keep the identity of their clients hidden have also come under fire amid allegations of helping tax evaders.
PRICE DRIVER food prices soar in 2015 first quarter after biting dry spell The average cost of food and non-alcoholic drinks has risen by 3.92 per cent over the past month following a dry spell that has been plaguing the country. This jump in prices was driven by an increase in the cost of maize flour, potatoes, milk, cabbage, beans and onions, says a report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS). Though there has been some rainfall in parts of the country, food prices have not yet stabilised. A 2kg bag of maize flour was retailing at roughly Sh107 in April, up from Sh94 in
March, KNBS reports. During the same period, the cost of 1kg of potatoes jumped to Sh64 from Sh53. “The observed food price increases were mainly attributed to the dry weather conditions experienced in the first quarter of the year,” the statistics office said. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that a slight fall in the cost of cooking gas and electricity was counter-balanced by a rise in the cost of housing, kerosene and charcoal. Recent weeks have seen some regions experiencing flash floods with others getting a little rainfall.
EXPORT OPP
Cheese exports can transform Kenya’s dairy sector Recent studies show that Kenya has the potential to export cheese in large quantities, while providing employment for thousands of people. The dairy sector already supports more than 1.5 million families while providing employment to roughly 300,000 farmers. Kenya and Sudan are currently the largest milk producers in Sub-Saharan Africa and account for almost half of the total cow milk produced in the region.
Agricultural experts from the Ministry of Livestock have confirmed that with value addition, local dairy farmers can boost their income by a significant amount. By diversifying their output to include cheese as well, dairy farmers stand to make millions. UK based firms like Ashley Chase have seen their exports increase by 50 per cent in recent months with Kenyan consumers making up a significant fraction of their target market.
Though many of Kenya’s dairy farmers prefer selling their milk to local factories, the cheese export market may be even more lucrative. There are a number of local cheese makers in the market though many local farmers have yet to see the value of this fermented goldmine. Countries like the US can rake in up to Sh95 billion a year exporting cheese, proving that the business is lucrative, given the right mechanisms.

KENYA K
has a brand new music super star
enyan contestant, Phy, otherwise known as Phylis Mwihaki Ngetich, was announced the overall winner of the Maisha Super Star contest. To say she was excited would be an understatement. “I want to thank God, my fans, the mentors, my church, Eric” she said. “I would not have done it without you and most of all, I want to thank King Kaka, who has been there for me from the beginning. He is now like a big brother to me.” Phy emerged top of the pack to win a recording contract, Sh1.2 million and a vintage microphone from music application Waabeh. Uganda’s
Spirit Soul was the runner up. Kenya’s Fil-ah took the third position while Tanzania’s Damian Soul came in fourth. “Thank you to our fans and for all those who voted for her,” said King Kaka. “I am so proud of you Phy.” Richy Kaweesa from Uganda and Bongo diva Myra had been eliminated two weeks ago after scoring the least in the competition. The awards show began with an original composition, ‘Over You’, from Eric Wainaina, who was also the show’s music director. The rookies served as his backup singers. Kenyan contestant Fil-ah was next on stage and he
poured his heart out with his own compositio, a Luo song dedicated to his late father. East Africa’s fastest rapper and Damian’s mentor, AY, lit up the stage with his classic Usijaribu alongside his rookie. Spirit Soul was the next contestant and she amazed everyone as she pulled off Mariah Carey’s Hero. Nameless and Fil-ah had the crowd singing along to the former’s hit, Coming Home . Phy, the crowd favourite, followed next, with her own composition, and she wowed the crowd. She even flattered one of the judges, Wyre, with a lap dance, which he seemed to enjoy. She then joined her mentor, King Kaka, on stage to
give a fiery performance. Even tough judge Angela Angwenyi gave them a standing ovation. Damian Soul gave a hip hop rendition of the famous song, Hakuna Matata, but he disappointed. Unlike his mentor, he could not rap to save his life. The best was saved for last as music legend Jose Chameleon and his rookie Spirit Soul took to stage performing popular songsValuvalu and
Wale Wale.
The show’s first season has clearly proven to be success but we are waiting to see if its products will actually make it in the real world. For now, we salute Phy and her trainer, King Kaka.

Nandi female marriages
I
n the Nandi community, femaleto-female marriages was a norm. It was a way for a woman to take over the social and economic roles of a husband and father. A female ‘husband’ was usually a woman of advanced age and who has failed to bear a child or only sired daughters. This was practised to sustain the family lineage and was a way to work around the problem of infertility or a lack of male heirs. A woman who married another woman for this purpose had to undergo an overturn ceremony to ‘change into a man’. This biological woman, now socially male, became a husband to a younger female and had to provide a bride price to her wife’s family. It was crucial that she assumed all the male gender as she was expected to renounce her female duties such as house chores. She was also allowed the social privileges accorded to men, such as attending the private male circumcision ceremonies. The female husband chose a male consort for the new wife so that she could bear children as it was not acceptable for female husband to sleep with her new wife or her old husband. The wife’s children regarded the female husband as their father because she was the sociallydesignated father.

DON’T TRY TO KEEP YOUR BOYFRIEND AND YOUR BUD FROM ASSOCIATING.
M
any people swear unequivocally that they would never date a friend’s ex. They wholeheartedly believe that it’s wrong, disrespectful, and if a friend did that to them, they’d never talk to that person again. They believe this is something everybody knows, that they’re just following the rules. But can you really date your friend’s ex without sacrificing your friendship —we think you just have to follow a few simple guidelines. 1. Don’t gossip. It’s common to assume that anything shared with you is by default shared with your partner as well; however, your friend might be much less comfortable speaking to you in confidence if she thought the details of her personal life were going to be relayed to someone who used to share her toothbrush. Keep your friend›s secrets. The reverse is also true; no matter how much you love discussing your dude with your besties, his ex can probably live without hearing the details of his current sex life. Save it for anyone who didn’t date him. 2. Don’t trash talk. It’s OK to come to your partner for advice if you’re arguing with your friend, or vice versa, but
absolutely resist the urge to belittle or insult one of them to the other. This can be extremely tempting if they ended on bad terms and you know you›ll find a sympathetic ear. However, in order to maintain a healthy relationship with both of them, it›s crucial that you never seem even a little like you’re taking sides in their breakup or casting either one as the bad guy, even months or years after the fact. If you need to vent about one of them, find a neutral party. 3. Respect boundaries without making assumptions. For instance, if your friend doesn›t want to go to parties where her ex will be in attendance, don›t pressure her. But don›t assume she doesn›t want an invite if you haven›t asked! In general, allow your friend and your sweetheart to decide how much contact they want with each other, and don›t push them to associate if they›re not into it. Remember that you can love them both without them necessarily having to enjoy each other Oh and don’t invite your friend to what was supposed to be a romantic dinner at home. 4. No comparisons. Don’t ask your man if you›re prettier/ smarter/better at Scrabble than his last girlfriend. No matter what his answer is, it’s
going to make things weird. Besides, comparing yourself to anybody — even if you come out ahead — is always going to lead to feeling crappy, because basing your self-esteem on where you stand relative to someone else is Not Healthy. So don’t seek out comparisons, and if your dude brings up the topic, tell him you’re not interested in hearing it. 5. Don’t be paranoid. Don’t try to keep your boyfriend and your bud from associating because you’re afraid they still have feelings for each other, and don›t constantly seek reassurance that that›s not the case. Trust that your dude is with you because he likes you and you›re awesome, not because he›s biding his time until your friend takes him back. And don›t ever use jealousy or insecurity over their past relationship to excuse irrational or controlling behavior on your part 6 Don’t pry into their relationship. It may be tempting ask your friend to analyze what happened between the two of them so that you can avoid making the same mistakes, but resist that urge.
aboutLove
Likewise, don’t grill your boyfriend on what went wrong or insist that he account for his behavior throughout the entire time they dated. Their relationship is between them; it›s not your cautionary tale or your soap opera. If they choose to share details with you, that›s fine — you don›t need to stick your fingers in your ears, unless an overt comparison is being made (see No. 4) — but don›t push. Your relationship and theirs are separate things, and you don’t need to know anything they don’t care to tell you. 7. Recognize that some exes really are off-limits. It’s easier, of course, to have hard-line rules — ‘exes are never OK’ versus ‘exes are totally fine’ — but that›s not the world we live in. If someone seriously mistreated your friend (we’re talking emotional or physical abuse, infidelity, lying, stealing, etc.), don’t date him, no matter how awesome his butt looks in jeans. Set the precedent that people who are awful to your friends are people who don’t get to see you naked, and your life will be the better because of it.
‘Trust that your dude is with you because he likes you and you’re awesome’

However, because I had a very tough schedule then, I wasn’t ready to date seriously so we agreed it would a friend’s with benefit deal. But as time went on, I realized how amazing she was in everything. She has such a lovely heart and so I fell for her. Recently, I asked her to be my official girlfriend but she turned me down. She is not ready to commit to a relationship and doesn’t feel the same way about me. I can’t blame her because the no strings attached idea was mine. What can I do to persuade and convince her to give me a chance? — Matthew.
Dear Matthew,
It is a good thing you know you brought the heartache on yourself. If she does not want a relationship then you cannot coerce her into one. Had you known tables will turn, you would not have jumped into such an unconventional agreement. But as it is, regretting is of no use now. I am
not giving you any hopes but merely suggesting you approach her once more. Open up to her earnestly and assure her you truly want to be with her. She might have turned you down because she does not take you seriously. Your initial ‘friends with benefit suggestion’ might be the

In as much as such high profile delegations

We should therefore thank God for according us this honor and help make these occasions a success rather than grumbling. In deed few nations in Africa have had the
privilege of having three prominent global personalities in a span of three months. These visits show how valued he is by the international community. In addition to improving cordial international relationships, these trips bring an array of good tiding. They have the potential to improve our deteriorating internal and regional
security and streamline the ailing health and educational sectors since these issues will top agenda in their meetings. It is hoped that at the climax of the ‘tour’, Kenya will be better prepared to prevent, neutralize and respond to Al-shabab’s attacks; have wider market for her exports especially in the wealthy Western Nations.

Kiplagat: Uhuru has endorsed me for IAAF Athletics Kenya boss Isaiah Kiplagat, says he has an endorsement letter from president Uhuru Kenyatta in his race the IAAF Vice-President post this August. This comes at a time when efforts to get Cameroonian Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) boss, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum to step down for him seem futile. “President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has already signed a letter endorsing my candidature. That is a very good thing,” declared Kiplagat who has been at the helm of the Riadha house for the past 22 years. Kiplagat believes Kenya’s respected global position as a powerhouse in the sport will be a big advantage for him in the elections. “Talks with Malboum, are yet to bear fruits, but even if he decides not to step down, we have what it takes to emerge victories,” he added. Kiplagat further adds that the Cameroonian came to athletics administration 10 years ago and still has a long way to go. “Since he is a Council Member of IAAF, he loses nothing since he will still be in the top policy making in IAAF,” said Kiplagat, also an IAAF Council member. Kiplagat and Malboum are eyeing the vice-presidential slot vacated by English 800m legend Lord Sebastian Coe who is gunning for presidency. Asked if he is in the Coe camp, Kiplagat says there are no such arrangements in the IAAF though he alluded the two have common agendas. “Him and I have pretty much the same agendas, especially for Africa Athletics, that is what we want to achieve once elected,” said Kiplagat who launched his campaign last week in Nairobi.

Champions Bournemouth hold open-top bus parade
BACKED: Athletics Kenya boss Isaiah Kiplagat. He claims that he has an endorsement letter from president Uhuru Kenyatta in his race the IAAF Vice-President post this August.
Bournemouth have celebrated promotion to the Premier League with an open-top bus parade in front of thousands of supporters. The Cherries’ 3-0 win over Bolton last Monday effectively sealed promotion, with the title clinched on Saturday. It will be the first time the club has played in English football’s top flight. The seafront parade took the team from Boscombe Pier to Bournemouth Pier through streets lined with fans. Bournemouth won the championship title with a 3-0 victory at Charlton Athletic, as Watford slipped up late on against Sheffield Wedneday. Eddie Howe’s squad started the celebrations at Boscombe Pier before the tour ended just east of Bournemouth Pier. “It’s an incredible turnout from the people of Bournemouth,” said Howe. “It just goes to show how much they really support their football club. They’ve shown their support to the players, which is a magnificent thing so early in the morning. “It’s been such an amazing season and this weekend has been the most fitting of climaxes.”
‘Mediocre’ comments Juve custodian Gianluigi Buffon gave West Indies relishes ‘extraordinary’ season team talk - Cook Calling West Indies “mediocre” on the eve of the Test series gave them their team talk, claimed England captain Alastair Cook. England were dismissed for 123 in their second innings on the way to losing the final Test by five wickets - and drawing the series 1-1. England and Wales Cricket Board chairman-elect Colin Graves said there would be some inquiries if England did not beat the hosts. “It’s not ideal timing,” Cook said. “That’s a Yorkshireman for you they’re quite happy to talk a good game,” Cook said. “A comment’s a comment, and it’s his right as chairman to say what he wants, but it’s never
ideal against an opposition you’re about to play. “It gives everyone else a team talk, we know that. But we can’t control anything about that. If we’d played to our potential and taken our opportunities it would have been irrelevant.” West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder also referred to Graves’ comments after the final Test, tweeting “not bad for a mediocre side”. Cook claimed that Graves’ comments had not put any extra pressure on him or coach Peter Moores and that they “don’t worry about external stuff anymore”.

Champions League semi-finalists Juventus have had an “extraordinary” season, says captain Gianluigi Buffon. Juve host Real Madrid in the first leg of their last-four tie on Tuesday. The Turin club secured a fourth consecutive Serie A title at the weekend and face Lazio in the Coppa Italia final as they chase a treble. “We are still fighting on all fronts. This is something that not even we imagined,” Italy goalkeeper Buffon, 37, told Football Focus. Buffon spoke on several topics and revealed he regretted never playing in the Premier League. Juventus won three consecutive titles under Antonio Conte, but he stepped down in the summer and was replaced by Massimiliano Allegri, who had been sacked by AC Milan earlier that year. Buffon said: “It was a great surprise for me to see the approach adopted by our new coach and the way in which he has been able to manage a group of players who had won a succession of major titles and a group of players whose common denominator was the characteristics and personality of their previous coach. “So it was no easy task for Allegri to come to Juventus and to place his own stamp and imprint on the team. But it is something that he has been successful in doing by acting in a very intelligent manner.” Juventus clinched their latest Serie A title by beating Sampdoria on Saturday and will face Lazio in the Coppa Italia final on 7 June. “There is no doubt that the journey we have embarked upon with Allegri is becoming extraordinary,” said Buffon.

OUCH! Manny Pacquiao (L) and Floyd Mayweather during their superfight on May 2, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Down but not out? Fretful Manny fans want rematch
Floyd Mayweather emerged victorious from the most lucrative fight in history, beating Manny Pacquiao via a wide unanimous decision in Las Vegas. American Mayweather, 38, delivered a defensive masterclass against his Philippine rival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, making the necessary adjustments after only a few rounds before disappearing out of sight. Their hometown hero may be nursing
his wounds, but Manny Pacquiao fans in the Philippines are already calling for a rematch. If that was the ‘Fight of the Century’ so far, it’s a good job there are another 85 years to go. “We are not satisfied,” said Gel Bucani, 19, a Manila shopkeeper. “Rematch!” she added. “For all of us Filipinos it’s disappointing. He did everything, but nothing
happened,” said Mike Camenza, 23, who insisted he was still proud of the Philippines’ most famous son. Love for the “Pacman” runs deep here, even after his loss to American Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas. He is not just a boxer, but also a congressman, singer, basketball coach and owner of everything from a bottled water brand to a shopping mall. Millions in the Philippines watched the fight, which
was broadcast on all major television networks, shown in stadiums and parks, and even in movie theaters. Even a heat index of upwards of 40 degrees in some parts of the country wasn’t enough keep the fans away. Some 10,000 gathered for a free screening in a basketball stadium in the Manila neighborhood of San Andres. The crowd responded boisterously when Pacquiao entered the ring to a self-recorded song, entitled “I
will fight for the Filipinos.” They cheered every time Pacquiao landed a punch and rarely missed an opportunity to boo his opponent, at times breaking out into chants of “Manny, Manny.” Celebrity attendees at the match in Las Vegas — including Mark Wahlberg and Michael Jordan — were also popular with the crowd, though they didn’t have much time for Justin Bieber, who had thrown his support behind Mayweather.

Keighley Cougars half-back dies after cardiac arrest during rugby league game Keighley Cougars rugby league player Danny Jones has died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during a game. The Wales international, 29, collapsed after being replaced during the League 1 game at London Skolars on Sunday. The married father of fivemonth-old twins was treated at the ground before being taken to the Royal Free Hospital. Jones, from Halifax, was injured in the fourth minute of the game at the New River Stadium and was treated by the match doctor and paramedics at the ground.
London Ambulance Service said they were called “to a patient in cardiac arrest” at the ground and “extensive efforts were made to resuscitate him.” The contest was abandoned in the 16th minute with Keighley 12-6 ahead “It is always devastating when someone so young dies in these circumstances,” said Rugby Football League chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer. “Danny was a popular and talented player, having played at the highest level with Wales and for more than 12 seasons for Keighley Cougars and Halifax.”
Kenya’s Felix Kandie says he is hungry for more glory after winning Sunday’s Prague Marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes and 32 seconds. Kandie almost didn’t make it to the start line feeling the effects of a sore throat, but he decided to give it a go and his resolution paid off handsomely. “It was not under my control going to the race, I feared I might not even make it at one point,” he said. “At the end it made me even hungrier,” he declared. “I felt tired at around 39km so I just made sure that I would win,” said Kandie, the man who had broken the course record of Italy’s 2004 Olympic champion Stefano Baldini in Athens last year. “I wanted to see how far I could get.” Race pacemaker Benjamin Ngandu was supposed to pass through half way in about 63 minutes and he tried his best, but the group of favourites did
not follow him and he ended up running 30 to 40 metres ahead of the first group. It was Hillary Kipchumba who was then on the heels of Ngandu and the pair reached half way in 1:04:00. While Ngandu dropped out after 27km, Evans Chebet moved up to Kipchumba. When they reached 30km in 1:30:29, they were 22 seconds ahead of a chasing group of four with Kandie and Geoffrey Ronoh as well as Ethiopians Fikre Assefa and Deribe Robi. Chebet surged ahead with ten kilometres to go and it looked like the decisive moment in the battle for victory. But then it was Kandie time in Prague. Breaking up the chasing group with a surge, the Kenyan covered the five kilometre section between 30km and 35km in 14:54, propelling him within two seconds of the leader Chebet. Soon after, he overtook his compatriot and built a big lead.

The Sudan outfit dumped the side from North Africa on an away goal rule after a 2-1 loss in Tunis. “This is a major win for us and we are very excited. Esperance is a respectable team in African football and having been able to outwit them is historic for us. We will maintain our focus as the group stage is expected to be tougher,” said Allan Wanga. “It’s bound to be tougher as the competition advances, for us is about appreciating how far we’ve come while working harder to advance even further,” said the former AFC Leopards forward. Al Merreikh had beaten the same side 1-0 at home in Khartoum two weeks ago and qualified on an away goal rule after a 2-2 aggregate result. rsenal moved level on points with second-placed Manchester City and heightened Hull’s relegation worries with a superb display at the KC Stadium. The Gunners were sensational in the first half. Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick. Aaron Ramsey netted the second with another deflected strike before setting up Sanchez to beat keeper Steve Harper. Stephen Quinn’s header gave Hull hope, but the defeat sees the Tigers slip to fourth-bottom on goal difference. Hull drop below Leicester and to within a place of the Premier League’s relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s home game against bottom club Burnley, but they will be cheered by the resolve they showed in the second half. They went into the game buoyed by victories against Crystal Palace and Liverpool, but they could do nothing to prevent a slick Arsenal side from dominating the first half. The Gunners enjoyed 83% possession in the first 10 minutes but, for all their ball retention, they looked just as much of a
threat on the break. With Santi Cazorla sliding cute passes through and Ramsey causing problems when driving inside from the right, it was no surprise when the visitors took the lead. Sanchez dusted himself down after being fouled on the edge of the box and bent in a free-kick via Michael Dawson’s head. There was also an element of fortune about the second Gunners goal, as Ramsey’s clipped effort looped over Harper after taking a deflection off Robbie Brady. Cazorla’s sublime pass set up the second, but Ramsey’s assist for the third was even better - the Welsh midfielder playing a reverse ball inside the Hull defence and Sanchez had the simple task of rounding Harper and putting the game beyond doubt. The Gunners had plenty of chances in the second half - either side of Quinn’s header from Ahmed Elmohamady’s deep cross - but they could not take them as they stretched their excellent run of form to just one loss in the last 14. A further boost came in the form of Jack Wilshere, who came off the bench for his first appearance since November.
