Kibera youth torch nYS projects in political protests

undreds of demonstrating youths went on a rampage in Kibera slums last night, burning government projects in the area as they called on Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to resign. The youth torched clinics and toilets put up by the government and vandalized water tanks and pipes in what is linked to woes facing Ms Waiguru. Police had a difficult time controlling the situation after the youths blocked major roads leading to the slums while chanting anti-
government slogans. The ugly scenes followed Monday’s street demonstrations by a group that appeared to support the CS while castigating opposition leader Raila Odinga who has been criticising Waiguru. Tension was high and there was heavy police presence in the area early today. Police said the youth, estimated to be about 300, started demonstrating at 7pm at Kibera’s Olympic stage, where they lit bonfires and barricaded the road. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
