Ruto says opposition leaders out to tarnish his name From Page 1 “The person claiming to be the owner of Langata Road Primary School has a case in court already.” “Weston Hotel is different from Langata Road Primary School and the two cannot be linked,” he added. Later, Lands Cabinet Secretary

Charity Ngilu named four directors of Airport View Housing Company as the architects behind the landgrab saga. Ngilu further directed that the title deed awarded to the Company be revoked. Mandip Amrit, Manjit Amrit

Harbans Amrit and Kamal Amrit, in a paid newspaper advertisement insisted on owning the contested piece of land and even went to court seeking to stop the revocation of its title. Airport View claimed they paid Sh2.7 million to the Government

between 1989 and 1994 for a 10.9-acre piece of land, which the disputed 1.4 acres was part of. And in April, three months after Ngilu’s announcement, the National Lands Commission said that the title deed in Airport View’s possession was genuine and had not been

revoked. Ruto also linked other corruption allegations against him, among them the Moi Teaching Hospital and Maize scandals to illmotives by ‘friends of the opposition’. “Wikileaks named Raila Odinga as the architect of the Maize scandal” he added.

County gov’t inspectors must wear uniforms, says kidero The County Government of Nairobi has instructed all its personnel working under the City Inspectorate to wear uniform during business hours. Governor Evans Kidero said that this decision was informed by numerous complaints from City residents, who have been forced to bribe their way out of situations, created by those masquerading as officers from the City Inspectorate. Kidero said that any City Inspectorate official found conducting duties without a County Uniform will be prosecuted, in addition to other displinary actions. Traders and especially hawkers in the city have been complaining of harassment by City Inspectorate officers.

traffic cases should be locked up in cells without first being granted time, place and adequate facilities to pay fines and bail. The new rules will be implemented immediately, with CJ Mutunga urging heads of police stations and presiding magistrates in such

cases to fight corruption cartels in court corridors and cells. “Failure to comply will attract sanctions,” he warned. CJ Mutunga has also asked Kenyans to report any magistrate who fails to comply for appropriate action to be taken.

The traffic department is usually under sharp criticism over corruption allegations which CJ Mutunga hopes to address with the new measures put in place. Other measures have earlier been adopted like use of mobile courts to fine traffic offenders.

Nairobi is the most literate County in Kenya

NEWS BRIEF ICT SECTOR PROMISES GOOD TIDINGS FOR KENYA’S ECONOMY

Nairobi is the most literate County in Kenya since close to 90 per cent of the population is capable of reading. Meanwhile, North Eastern Kenya is deemed the least literate region since less than 10 per cent of the population can read or write. A survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the Department of Adult Education, and UNESCO, has discovered that nearly half of the adults in Kenya do not have the ability to read. Similar numbers based on these studies show that literacy levels are high in Nairobi and extremely low in North Eastern Kenya. These statistics, compiled by the Goethe Institut, have revealed that “literacy levels in Kenya deteriorate as one moves from the urban to the rural set ups.” The report also indicates that there are more literate women than there are men. It found that poverty in rural areas is one major barrier in the field of education. Urbanites, it seems, have more of an advantage since most of the country’s middle class is clustered in the more developed parts of the country. This means that they are able to give their children a quality education.

The Information Communication and Technology sector will contribute 8% of the Kenya’s annual GDP. ICT will also create 180,000 jobs by the same period, according to statistics from the ICT Ministry. “We at the ICT Authority realize that Kenya’s growth shall be driven by technology,” said Mr Matunda Nyanchama, an ICT Advisor at the Ministry of ICT during the launch of the OLX Social Media Awards Wednesday. Mr. Nyanchama urged Kenyans to embrace technology and social media. “Technology and social media can be advantageous if used accordingly. Let’s build on the desirable quota of social media and be aware of the risks involved,” said Matunda. The Social Media Awards are held annually to celebrate individuals and institutions that are actively using the social media space for the good of society.

City floods leave 3 dead Flooding in Nairobi after heavy rains on Tuesday night has left three people dead. They include a woman and her three-year-old son who were swept away by flood waters in Kayole. Also killed was an eight-year-old boy also from the same area, according to police. Kayole Police Chief Ali Nuno confirmed the incident saying the bodies had been retrieved and taken to the morgue. “We suspect they tried to cross a flooded section on foot when they were swept away and drowned. There was also massive damage,” he said. The rains started on Tuesday evening when most city residents were leaving offices leaving them stranded. There were long queues in almost all bus terminuses and heavy traffic in routes heading in and out of the Central Business District. Most drainage systems have improved following earlier rains that led to massive flooding within the city according to police. According to the meteorological department the rains are expected to continue for the next couple of weeks. A Sh50 million emergency fund has since been established by Governor Evans Kidero to unclog blocked drainages and improve water flow.

KTB launches marketing campaign in Persian Gulf The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Kenya Airways have launched a threemonth long marketing campaign dubbed ‘Choose Kenya’ to woo tourists from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The GCC is a regional intergovernmental union consisting of all Arab states within the Persian Gulf, except for Iraq. Its member states are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the

United Arab Emirates. The Tourism Board’s campaign, which was launched on June 1, by Kenya‘s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), General Kariuki Mugwe, will target travel agents and tour operators who are selling Kenya in the region. The drive will run on all social media platforms, select trade magazines and targeted databases in the GCC countries.

“Our campaigns will run from 1st June to 31st August, 2015 and winners will be announced in September, 2015. This is one of the ways of ensuring that Kenya as a destination remains top of mind among the trade and travellers from the GCC countries,” said KTB Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa. Ndegwa noted that the campaign will also enhance a pre-existing online training

program for travel agents that was unveiled in December 2014, targeting operators in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain markets. The ambassador said Kenya remains a first choice tourism destination for many and encouraged the travel trade to continue marketing the destination as a preferred tourism destination.

Canadian court orders tobacco firms to pay Sh120b in damages Three tobacco companies have been ordered to pay C$15.5billion (Sh120.6 billion) by a Canadian court. The companies include; Imperial Tobacco Canada, Rothmans Benson & Hedges and JTI-MacDonald. They are accused by the plaintiffs who are Quebec City smokers of failing to warn them of health risks associated with smoking. “That awareness has been reinforced by the health warnings printed on every legal cigarette package for more than 40 years,”

JTI-Macdonald said in a statement. The firms argued that Canadians have had a high awareness of smoking health risks since the 1950s. The plaintiffs who represent nearly one million smokers who were unable to quit or who suffer from throat or lung cancer, or emphysema however argued saying that the companies did not properly warn their customers and failed in their general duty not to cause injury to another person.

JOB MARKET The Ndetika Rural Sacco (NRS) Society has announced plans to hire Accountants, Accounts Assistants and Internal Audit Assistants. The Society’s recruiters have said that the organisation is looking for Accountants with a minimum of two years’ experience.

The lawsuit, which was filed in 1998, only recently went to trial in the courts. “The companies earned billions of dollars at the expense of the lungs, the throats and the general well-being of their customers said Judge Brian Riordan while ruling on the case, “if the companies are allowed to walk away unscathed now, what would be the message to other industries that today or tomorrow find themselves in a similar moral conflict?”

Visa, a leader in global payments, has partnered with Total Kenya to give away fuel in a promotion dubbed “Total freedom with Visa”. The French multinational oil and gas company will give away the fuel through Total’s fuel card, the TOTAL Bon Voyage. The promotion, launched yesterday at Total’s Limuru Road service station, will run until July 27 2015. The affair aims to inform consumers of the convenience of paying for their fuel with their Visa cards, and encourage everyday spend by highlighting the various services available with Visa credit and debit cards. “This promotion is a winwin for consumers as they will not only enjoy the usual benefits of paying with their Visa card, but will also be rewarded for it thanks to our partnership with Total Kenya,” said Country Manager for East

Africa, Victor Ndlovu. The promotion, aimed at rewarding loyal motorists embracing cashless payments, will see motorists who pay for their fuel using VISA credit or debit cards at Total service stations across the country entered into the promotion. The promotion will have two daily winners receiving a full tank of fuel and one weekly winner receiving a year’s worth of fuel. Ada Eze, Total Kenya Managing Director said that with the growth of e-commerce, Total Kenya will continue to offer motorists a host of payment options at the pump. According to a report released by Financial Services Depening (FSD) Kenya in February 2015, one of the key barriers to card usage in Kenya is the lack of information on the full value of the card. Consumers are not aware that they can use their card for other purposes besides withdrawing cash.

Homemade greenhouses lifts farmers’ earnings

IMPROVISED: Some farmers are realising decent profits from improvised greenhouses.

Farmers in Matisi village in Bungoma have increased their yields after following the introduction of home-made greenhouses and a technique known as crop rotation. These initiatives have helped the farmers fight poverty at a time when agricultural bodies like the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and FAO insist that poor farm management practices in Africa have been responsible for food insecurity. Susan Nyongesa has been a sugarcane farmer for quite some time. She, like thousands of others in Busia County, has been counting losses as the political crop took a toll on their household incomes due to boardroom wrangles plaguing the country’s sugar companies. With no work

and a responsibility to feed her family, she decided to apply the little knowledge she had gathered from extension officers. She started alternating her sugar cane with other crops like kales and tomatoes. This, combined with the greenhouse she managed to set up with her little returns from the sale of her crops, has not only provided for her family’s needs but also attracted more farmers to embrace her kind of farming. It has been a stepping stone in taming the poverty levels in the area that have been blamed on the farmers’ over reliance on sugar. Within the green house, Nyongesa has planted coriander, tomatoes, spinach and cucumbers.

Australia and COMESA enter minerals devt pact The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) trading bloc has developed a detailed plan focusing on four areas aimed at boosting the region’s minerals sector. The move is set to create thousands of employment opportunities across the region in countries like Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe among others. COMESA’s plan will focus on “taxation and financial frameworks, mineral beneficiation and linkages, human and institutional capacity development and a harmonized mineral sector policy framework.” In a meeting with Deputy Premier of Western Australia, Dr Kim Hames, COMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya said the partnership, initially signed in 2014, was fundamental to the COMESA region. This, he explained, is because of Western Australia’s experience in using minerals and other resources as a springboard for industrialization and infrastructure development. At the time, Dr Hames was visiting the COMESA Secretariat in Lusaka. “COMESA region is a major

“We all produce one crop at a time forcing business people to take advantage of us,” explains Nyongesa. She notes that harvesting seasons have been so challenging that farmers lack the market for their products. Nyongesa has discovered that when it comes to farming, diversification is the key to success. Aside from her greenhouse, she also runs a poultry farm. She collects approximately 30 eggs a day and sells them locally. She has planted exotic bananas on her farm, having passed her new techniques to over 1,000 people. More than 20 are doing the same in Bungoma County as a result of her renewed success.

ed time is always the best time of the day for most of us, especially if we are looking forward to a cozy bed. For a bed to be ‘royal’ it requires much more than just expensive wood ; you also need to induce a visually relaxing bed environment. You can create this environment using artwork and decorations, but you can also transform your bed’s plain headboard dramatically into an aesthetically soothing space using just a woolen rug (carpet), a tape measure, some nails and a hammer. Start by measuring the length and width of your bed’s headboard using the tape measure. Lay your chosen rug on a flat surface and using the obtained measurements from the first step, cut out your woolen rug into almost similar dimensions, adding an inch

or two to both the length and width of the rug. Have some friends or family members hold out the cut out rug onto the bed’s headboard while you drill four pairs of nails into the headboard through the four corners of the rug to serve as the main anchors. Most bed headboards are rectangular or square in shape, thus it is recommended to use similarly shaped rugs for this project. In order to ensure that the rug does not fall off, drill some more nails along the edges and at the center of the rug. When the rug is firmly attached to the headboard, flatten out all creases and cut off the protruding areas of the rug such that it perfectly covers the headboard. Rugs look great on the floor but much better and unique on a bed.

Just like electric bulbs, skylights can be installed in any room, with the

Skylights are made of plastic or glass. The process involves

But be careful to ensure that the skylight is waterproof to avoid damaging its interior parts. Insulation is also necessary especially for plastic skylights to protect the parts from thinning and melting during extremely sunny days.

Home remedies for a sore throat The cold season is here which inevitably means you will have opportunistic colds and flu and yes, annoying sore throats. Here are some remedies you can use at home to ease this ache.

G

argle with warm salt water Sore throat appears when the mucous membranes have become swollen and inflamed. Warm salt water decreases the swelling, as salts primary function is to draw out water, which in turn shrinks the swollen cells and eases the pain. This also cleanses away the excess mucous and allows your stuffy nose to drain properly. Suck on garlic Garlic is a natural remedy that can clear a painful sore throat. Garlic contains allicin, a compound that kills the bacteria causing strep and

fight the germs causing pain and irritation. Fluids Hydrating your body is very important, especially when you’re sick and your throat is irritated or inflamed. Fluids help to keep the mucous membranes moist and better able to combat bacteria and irritants like allergens. Tea This is a good substitute for water. A warm cup of herbal tea can offer immediate, soothing relief for a sore throat. None herbal teas; black, green, or white contains antioxidants which helps to strengthen immunity and ward off infections.

Honey Honey mixed in tea, water and lemon or simply taken straight up is a good home remedy for sore throat. Marshmallow root Marshmallow root contains a mucus-like substance that coats and soothes a sore throat. The dried roots can be added into a cup of boiling water to make tea. Sipping the tea two to three times a day may help ease throat pain. The marshmallow solutions can also help soothe irritated mucous membranes.

e all know by now that Yoga delivers many benefits to those who incorporate it into their everyday lives. The purpose of Yoga is to create strength, awareness and harmony for both mind and body. Here are the 6 ways Yoga can help you keep your body fit. Weight loss Yoga techniques such as Sun Salutations and Kapal Bhati pranayama help with weight loss. Moreover, with regular practice of Yoga, one tends to become more sensitive to the kind of food the body asks for and when.

Better flexibility & posture Regular Yoga practice, stretches and tones the body muscles making them strong. It also helps improve your body posture when you stand, sit, sleep or walk. This in turn relieves your body of any pain caused by incorrect posture. Strength Some styles of Yoga, such as ashtanga and power Yoga, are very physical. Practicing one of these styles can help improve muscle tone. The standing poses, especially if you

9

hold them for several long breaths, build strength in your core. When done right, nearly all poses will tone your muscles. Improved balance Regularly practicing yoga increases proprioception (the ability to feel what your body is doing and where it is in space) and improves balance. People with bad posture or dysfunctional movement patterns usually have poor proprioception, which has been linked to knee problems and back pain. Stress relief Spending a few minutes during

the day doing yoga can be a great way to relieve yourself from stress in body and mind. Yoga postures, pranayama and meditation are effective techniques to release stress. All-round fitness Health is not just a mere absence of disease. You are truly healthy when you are not just physically fit but also mentally and emotionally balanced. Yoga Postures such as Breath techniques (Pranayama) and meditation are a holistic fitness package.

Spare Uhuru some stick on insecurity

Like Blatter, Nyamweya Dr. Alfred Mutua is doing a great job should quit as well Those who don’t follow soccer might be struggling to understand the significance of FIFA President Sepp Blatter’s resignation. The secret could be in viewing soccer as something much broader than a sport. Soccer is, among other things, a massive business. FIFA alone is a multibillion-dollar enterprise. Its fortunes have risen so far and fast that it resembles a tech start-up. Despite all the money it has handed out, it is still sitting on an estimated $1.5 billion in cash. Back to Kenya, same can be said about FKF. Selfish octogenarians are still clinging on power to siphon as much as they can. This has all been for the bad of the beautiful game in the country. Just like Blatter, Sam Nyamweya and his ‘friends’ should resign as they have been caught up in a morass of scam.

—Tony Obonyo, South B

I am really jealous of the people of Machakos County. They are lucky for I think they elected a great leader, governor Dr. Alfred Mutua. He has been taunted and goaded for his visionary projects, which other people think are simply grandiose and unrealistic. But really, what he has done in just two years after his election tells a lot. Frankly, Mutua has delivered what many leaders

have not been able to deliver since independence. The people of Machakos are feeling changes. He has not also given politicking a chance and has ignored and shut out his rival Senator Johnstonne Muthama, who has only been a spoiler and an enemy of the county. It does not matter whether Mutua is pulling PR stunts or not, he is doing a great job! — Martin Kinyanjui, Meru

I believe that our president has the nation’s best interests at heart to curb terrorism activities in the country. I have never been a president before, but obviously not so many of us would handle the responsibilities that come with the job description of a president for just one day. Thus, we should spare Uhuru Kenyatta some stick. Imagine what he has to go through every time there is an attack, knowing that the whole nation will be on his case. Let us learn to appreciate the government’s efforts to secure our country. We also need to pray that the President’s new strategy to counter radicalisation will turn out to be the miracle that we have all been waiting for.

Adieu godfather of Football, thank you for giving Africa World Cup

So the godfather of world football is dead. Well, not literally. But in stunning fashion, Sepp Blatter has announced that he would resign as President of Fifa. Even before today, plenty of people were asking how he managed to

last this long in the role. And a key piece of the answer is the support he had outside of the big soccer strongholds of Europe and South America. For all his failings, Blatter was smart enough to understand that

the game is global—and whoever replaces him in the leadership structure at the top of the most popular sport in the world would be wise to adopt the same philosophy. No country is small enough to hold

Call her Caitlyn and let her be On Monday Caitlyn Jenner broke the Internet. She decided to stop living her life as a man and become a woman. I admire her greatly for her courage. Imagine the kind of bravery it takes for people to change their gender and show themselves to the world. Not many people will agree with his choice but she made it. Imagine the torture she was going through living as a man.

That must have been hell for her. People should just stop hating and let her live her life. The world has a lot of things going on that people can talk and hate on instead of hating on someone who finally got the courage to live their life the best way they know how.

the world’s most watched extravaganza and Europe need to accept that. In granting South Africa the 2010 World Cup, Blatter sealed his support across the African continent whether handouts changes hands or not.

Health sector needs overhaul Top Health Officials are doing great work in the Health sector. Now it is up to the County Governments to do their part and invest more on healthcare and infrastructure. There are still some parts in the country that are leaving in the old age where to get a health centre is kilometres away, and not forgetting some health conditions require immediate medical attention.

It is time that our country gives more attention on the health sector. County Government should provide more affordable and quality medicines. On top of this I am waiting for that day that patients will be treated with high regard, people will stop staring at an injured person on the road, instead take them to a health facility. — Derrick Musyoka, Kasarani

FIT FOR BIRMINGHAM: David Rudisha after winning the 600m at the 2014 IAAF Diamond League meeting in Birmingham.

tweeted Rudisha, who was looking to set a new world record in the little-run race. “It’s just a thigh muscle spasm… not serious problem. With few days of good care I hope to be back in training,” Rudisha wrote on his Twitter and Facebook pages after the race in reassuring his fans his season had not come to a premature end as initially feared.

Reached for comment Rudisha said he feels well and ready to return to the pitch this coming weekend. “My fans should not be worried, I feel ok and ready to go, I have talked to my manager and coach, they are all convinced I should run,” he said. Rudisha, 26, has struggled to return back to his best form after battling a nagging

knee injury which forced him to miss the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, winning the Commonwealth Games silver last year, the first second medal of his staggering career. His last memorable race was at the 2012 London Olympics when he stormed to a spectacular new world record of 1:40.91 in the 800m.

Liverpool poised to confirm Stan Wawrinka stuns Federer at French Open signing Milner from Man City Second seed and 2009 champion Roger Federer is out of the French Open after a 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-4) defeat to Stan Wawrinka in an allSwiss quarterfinal. Wawrinka, 30, had lost all four of their previous matches at Grand Slam tournaments. But the number eight seed overcame his 33-year-old Davis Cup teammate to cause an upset at Roland Garros.

Wawrinka will meet home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals following his win over Kei Nishikori. Tsonga overcame a fightback by his Japanese opponent to win 6-1 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-3. World number two Federer was second best throughout against an inspired Wawrinka and failed to break serve in a Grand Slam match for the first time since the 2002 US Open. Federer was broken in the

third game of the first set and in the seventh game of the second set. When a couple of close calls went against him in the third set tie-break, Federer’s hopes of adding to his haul of 17 Grand Slam trophies were over. A forehand volley on his second match point propelled Wawrinka, the 2014 Australian Open champion, to his first French Open semi-final.

Liverpool are set to hold talks with Manchester City and England midfielder James Milner this week. The Reds have made the move for the out-of-contract international a priority and are confident of reaching an agreement with the 29-yearold. If the deal goes through, Milner, who moved to City from Aston Villa in 2010, would join the Reds on 1 July. Milner began his career with hometown club Leeds United

before spending four years at Newcastle United. He joined Villa for a season prior to a move to City that was thought to be worth £26m. Milner has won the Premier League title twice and the FA Cup once during his five years in Manchester. He made his England debut against Holland in August 2009 and remains a regular in Roy Hodgson’s squad. He has 53 caps and one goal, scoring against Moldova in

2012. Meanwhile Brendan Rodgers’ future as Liverpool manager will become clearer this week when he meets with co-owner Tom Werner. The American is expected in the city on Tuesday and is due to meet the Reds boss as part of his end-of-season review on Wednesday. Sources close to Werner and fellow owner John W Henry have consistently played down suggestions Rodgers’ job is under immediate threat.

England hooker Hartley’gutted’ to miss Rugby W.Cup Banned England hooker Dylan Hartley is “gutted” to be missing the World Cup but denies reports he is ready to quit international rugby. The 29-year-old Northampton captain was removed from the World Cup squad after being given a four-week ban headbutting Saracens’ Jamie George. “Am I gutted about missing the World Cup? Stupid question - of course I am,” he told The Sun. “There is no truth in the speculation I may quit international rugby.” Hartley’s ban would have ruled him out of England’s opening World Cup game against Fiji on 18 September. He was warned by head coach Stuart Lancaster last year over his disciplinary record, which has now seen him banned six times, missing 54 weeks of his career through suspensions for offences ranging from gouging and biting to abusing a referee. Hartley, who has 66 international caps, added: “I’ve been unlucky with getting it wrong on the big stage a few times now. Maybe it’s down to emotions? “I feel I can still contribute and as long as Stuart Lancaster thinks that too, that’s all that matters. I need to channel my hurt into training because, when the World Cup starts, I need to be in a good place fitness-wise in case of injuries.”

STARLETS: Kenya women football player celebrate in a past match coach David Ouma says that the team is ready to face any side.

Harambee Starlets can trounce any side, says coach Ouma Kenya’s Women football team Harambee Starlets are confident enough to face any side according to head coach David Ouma. Ouma says this after his side left it late to book a date with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the third round of 2016 Rio Olympic qualifiers. A late Dorcas Sikobe strike last Sunday at the Machakos Stadium helped Kenya beat a resilient Botswana side therefore qualifying to the third round. For Ouma is was a case of never saying die, while referring to the frist leg where Kenya score a late consolation that kept Starlets hopes alive.

Sikobe’s goal handed the starlets a deserved 1-0 win allowing Kenya to go through on the away goal rule after tying the aggregate at 2-2. “It was the same script re written again, the ladies knew an early goal in our home game was key, despite not achieving that they kept asking question,” he said. “Banyana qualified with a huge aggregate win which shows they are a good side, as we prepare for that match I want my players to remain positive and work hard for that match,” he said. The Starlets had been beaten 2-1 during the first leg played at Lobaste Sports Complex away ago but Mary Kinuthia’s

late consolation goal gave Kenya hope ahead of the return leg. On the other hand, Banyana Banyana booked their place in the third round after pounding Gabon 5-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday to add on to a 2-3 away win the week before to proceed with an 8-2 aggregate win. Two goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe and one each from Amanda Dlamini, Sanah Mollo and Refiloe Jane delivered Banyana’s Sunday win. The third round games will be played on 17–19 July 2015 with the return games set for 31 July–2 August.

Kabras fine despite defeat to Uganda select in friendly

ALL IS WELL: Kabras Sugar players in a previous Kenya Cup action.

Kabras Sugar head coach Anthony Ogot says he is not worried despite his side defeat to visiting Uganda Select in a friendly match played at the Kakamega Showground last Saturday. The Kenya Cup debutants in the 2014/15 season who shocked all by going all the way in their maiden top flight season, led the visitors 07-05 at half time but lost 7-11 at the end. However, two penalties from Kevin Makmot in the second half added onto Lawrence Sebuliba’s first half touchdown for Uganda to turn the tables on the hosts. Ogot however said a few errors shifted his sides’ fortune in the game. “It was a very tight game and at half time the scores were Kabras 7 and Uganda 5” “We made two mistakes in the second half which the Ugandans took full advantage of and went for points,” he added. James Odongo landed the only try for Kabras Sugar in the first half with Jasper Ochieng drilling in the extra.

epp Blatter is now at the centre of the FBI’s corruption probe after the FIFA president sensationally announced he would be resigning after 17 years in world football’s top job. Federal agents, who last week charged 14 FIFA officials with corruption, have told the American media that they are hoping those men will help them build a case against their former boss. The revelation comes just hours after Blatter used a hastily arranged news conference at FIFA HQ to say that he will step down after his successor is elected in December this year, or March 2016. Blatter, who has been Fifa president since 1998, said: “The next ordinary Fifa congress will take place on 13 May, 2016 in Mexico City. “This would create unnecessary delay and I will urge the executive committee to organise an extraordinary congress for the election of my successor at the earliest opportunity. “This will need to be done in line with Fifa’s statutes and we must allow enough time for the best candidates to present themselves and to campaign.” The extraordinary congress is expected to take place between December 2015 and March 2016. Sepp Blatter beat Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan to earn a fifth term as Fifa president and his beaten opponent says he remains at the disposal of the national associations for the new Fifa election. “I am always there to serve football and I think that’s the most important thing and to do so much work to fix this organisation in a proper

way,” said Ali. Former France international David Ginola wanted to stand but failed to meet the criteria to do so. His team has confirmed he also intends to stand as a candidate again. Fifa was rocked last week by the arrests on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering as part of a US prosecution that also indicted 14 people. The latest allegations of corruption to emerge on Tuesday involved reports claiming Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke was responsible for an alleged $10m (£6m) payment of bribes over South Africa’s bid to host the 2010 World Cup. He denies any wrongdoing. A separate criminal investigation by Swiss authorities into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated is also under way. Blatter says he stood for re-election as he felt it was the “best option for football” but took his decision to resign in Fifa’s best interests. “Since I shall not be a candidate, and am therefore now free from the constraints that elections inevitably impose, I shall be able to focus on driving far-reaching, fundamental reforms that transcend our previous efforts,” he said. Jerome Valcke is under pressure in connection with a bribe that the US Department of Justice alleges was paid from a Fifa account to Jack Warner, a former Fifa executive. That is exactly where this story is going to be going in the next few weeks and months. “In the end, Blatter’s position became untenable and we will perhaps know more in the weeks ahead about what exactly tipped him over the edge.”
