he planned visit to Kenya by US President Barack Obama will help market the country and put it among the pioneers of businesses improving the lives of millions. US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec says the historic visit will also open doors for bright and ambitious Kenyan entrepreneurs amid economic struggles to generate formal employment. President Obama is expected in Kenya on July 25 and 26 during which he will attend the Sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi. “The summit will highlight to the world the successes and potential in Kenya and will provide
an opportunity to start the next great innovative chapter,” Ambassador Godec said in an opinion piece he wrote today. The summit to be held at the KICC is a White House initiative, which gathers entrepreneurs and investors from around the world and is aimed at showcasing innovative projects and spurring economic opportunity. It will bring together some of the world’s leading business innovators to share experiences, make new connections and brainstorm ways to identify and invest in the next big idea. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

State to appeal ruling on teachers’ pay rise The government has vowed to appeal yesterday’s court ruling that awarded teachers a 50 to 60 percent pay rise. Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi says they are reviewing the ruling made by the Employment and Labour Relations Court, and that they will move to challenge it. Prof Kaimenyi said they are also considering moving to court to
seek more time to comply with the orders citing inadequate funds at the moment. “If we feel dissatisfied as a government we can also seek recourse in the court of law. We have a right to appeal whether as an individual or institution. We can do that and there is no crime in that,” he said. “We are looking at the economic situation and we will

ake two seconds and imagine, if you can, living in a remote village. Picture a village that has barely changed in over 100 years. Do you notice how still everything is? How slow? Do you notice that it almost seems to be in black and white? Imagine that you are one of the youngsters in the village. Your days are full of adventure, playing with friends, full of life, full of energy. You have visions of a bigger world. A modern world. You’ve heard, of course, of skyscrapers, of luxury planes, of movie stars, even trips to the moon. You want a world full of colour... You notice your elder cousins. You remember them as playful and energetic bigger kids, the ones that seemed ready to conquer the village and the world. They have changed. They don’t spend their days chasing balls, chasing animals and chasing dreams, they spend more time with the elders. Conserving their energy in the shade. Speaking in cautious tones. They used to smile. They used to be the future, they begin to resemble the past. Why? The old men, who had once seemed caring and nurturing, seem jealous of your energy. They tell you stories of others whose ambition had backfired. They remind you of your place. It is not
in our culture, they say, to do things the way the rest of the world does. When you ask why they get angry… Indignant. They accuse you of showing disrespect. You wonder why. Why? What are your choices? Will you fade away to black and white? Will you lose your zest? Must your dreams be killed? Will your tomorrow look like it was 100 years ago? Can you escape? Should you measure yourself against the village or against the world? Again, do you listen to the elders or do you take on the world? Sometimes they have convinced us we have no choice. That is a lie. The choice is yours. Nobody wants to live in the past, that is where death lurks.

US: Obama’s tour will benefit Kenya From Page 1 This, ambassador Godec said, will allow Kenyan entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life. His comment echo those of analysts who have called on the government to use the
opportunity and boost its efforts of marketing Kenya as an investment, diplomatic and political gateway to Africa. Some 1500 delegates are expected to attend and Obama’s coming, which will be the first time a sitting
US president visits Kenya is being seen as massive. “This is big. The symbolic value of the trip is huge and the eyes of the world will be on Kenya. The Americans will have prepared for this for more than a year and will know exactly what they want.
The question is whether we, Kenyans, will know how to make maximum use of such a rare opportunity,” Prof Joseph Kieyah of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy, Research and Analysis was quoted by a local weekend paper as saying.
The summit will be the first ever in Sub-Saharan Africa which is home to nearly half of the world’s growing economies. And ambassador Godec has also called on the government to create a conducive environment that
allows innovators to bring to bring their ideas to life. He says entrepreneurship is essential to a nation’s ability to prosper and that the summit will provide the ‘spark’ Kenya needs for this.
State to appeal ruling on teachers’ pay rise From Page 1 Yesterday’s court ruling means teachers in the lower grades will get a salary raise of 60 percent while those in the higher grade will get a 50 percent increase. It means the government will have to find an additional Sh52 billion a year to pay teachers. There are a total of 288, 060 teachers on the government’s payroll and they will now earn a total of Sh118 billion a year, about 5.6 percent of the national budget. Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion says the government’s budgetary processes
do not concern them. “The government’s budgetary process is not our concern,” he said. He dared Prof Kaimenyi to challenge the court decision saying it is a done deal. According to Sossion, the perception that the salary increase will lead to a huge wage bill is the construction of certain people. He told the government to respect the court decision maintaining that teachers will not work for free. The government is likely to anchor its appeal on a document submitted by the Labour Ministry’s Central Planning
and Monitoring Unit (CPMU) where it asked the court to consider awarding teachers a 128 percent salary raise. Suspended Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi had opposed the submissions saying CPMU did not consult his office before filing the document, and requested that it be expunged from court records. However, Justice Nduma Nderi declined that request.

Gold diggers: Government makes plans to cash in on Kenya’s blossoming mining sector Kenya’s mining sector is set to receive a much-needed boost at a time when the country is experiencing an industrial “gold rush.” The government has announced plans to recruit McKinsey & Co., an American multinational management consulting firm, to ensure that Kenya receives as many benefits as it can from the sector. The move comes at a time when Kenya is in the midst of making deals for the sale of its gold, titanium and gold deposits. The country has recently been cited as a stockpile for rare, valuable and expensive earth minerals like niobium. However, mining in Kenya has lagged behind neighbouring countries like Tanzania, where the industry contributed about 4 per cent to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2013, Bloomberg reports. the mining sector represents roughly 1 per cent of the country’s GDP but has the potential to offer more. With support from various stakeholders, the industry can create employment on an unprecedented scale. Najib Balala, Cabinet Secretary for Mines, said just days ago that that the government is recruiting McKinsey & Co. to design a 20-year mining plan that will steer development within the blossoming industry. Balala said that the government wants Kenya to set the pace for mining development in the region. A new set of guidelines for the mining sector indicates that the government will impose royalty fees on its mining partners, ensuring that the country gets a cut from the sale of minerals like coal and diamonds.
Experts are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted down property at Toi Market in Woodley area, Nairobi. Property of unknown value was destroyed in the blaze although no deaths or injuries of persons were reported. Fire engines from Nairobi City County managed to contain it 30 minutes later. Strike looms after NHIF talks collapse
FUTILE: Acting Labour Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo. She confirmed that the two-day meetings between government and civil servants on new NHIF rates failed to yield consensus.
Civil servants have threatened to go on strike in protest of the new NHIF rates after the government yesterday reneged on an agreement to suspend the contributions. Talks between the government and trade unions protesting the new rates collapsed last evening after the Labour ministry declined to grant a request to suspend the legal notice that affected the increased rates. Union representatives under their umbrella Trade Unions Congress stormed out of the meeting with senior government and National Hospital Insurance Fund officials. They had demanded that the legal notice enforcing the new rates be suspended until negotiations are completed. Government officials led by acting Labour Cabinet Raychelle Omamo confirmed that the two-day meetings between the two sides failed to yield consensus. “My view is that we must continue to speak, we must continue to reach a consensus, we must do what is right for the ordinary Kenyan who can’t access
health care, “She said last night. Trade Union Congress through its Secretary General Wilson Sossion says they will shut their doors on the government. “This fund cannot be fixed to raise 26 billion shillings up from Sh 7 billion from workers who have even being denied their right to negotiate, we will not allow that. The train is now leaving the station and it’s moving at a terrific speed,” Sossion said. Sossion has been accusing the government of continued deduction at the new rates, regardless of protests and positions taken by the union against lack of consultations preceding the said gazettement. “The government has been playing hide-and-seek games with us since we issued a seven-day strike notice. We wanted to give her an opportune chance for her to avert the strike,” he said. In the new NHIF proposal, workers earning a monthly salary of Sh100,000 and above remit Sh1,700 to the NHIF while those earning Sh6,000 and less contribute Sh150.

South Sudan army ‘raped and burnt girls alive’ - UN South Sudan’s army and allied militias “abducted, torched and gang-raped girls” during fighting against rebel forces, a UN report says. Investigators found that at least 172 women and girls were abducted and subjected to sexual violence, it added. One woman was “dragged out of her hut and gang-raped in front of her three-year old child”, the report said. The government denies its army has committed atrocities but says it will study the report. The UN Mission in South Sudan (Unmiss) said abuses during the 18-month civil war had reached a new scale of intensity and horror in recent fighting in the oil-producing Unity State. “Survivors spoke of a campaign against the local population that killed civilians, looted and destroyed villages,” the report said. “Some of the most disturbing allegations compiled by Unmiss human rights officers focused on the abduction and

sexual abuse of women and girls, some of whom were reportedly burnt alive in their dwellings,” it added. The report added that in one incident, a woman was made to hold red-hot coals in her hands in an attempt to force her to reveal the whereabouts of rebel fighters. President Salva Kiir’s spokesman Ateng
Wek Ateng told the BBC he did not believe that troops would commit atrocities against their own people. However, he said the allegations contained in the report were “too serious to ignore”. The government would study the report, and take appropriation, he added. The military launched a major
offensive against rebel forces in April, with fierce fighting in Unity state’s northern Mayom district, once a key oil producing area. The civil war began in December 2013 after Mr Kiir accused his sacked deputy Riek Machar of plotting a coup. Mr Machar denied the allegation, but then formed a rebel army to fight
the government. Various efforts to mediate an end to the conflict in South Sudan, the world’s newest state, have failed. Earlier this month, the government expelled a UN humanitarian co-ordinator in the country, Toby Lanzer. Reports say he was kicked out for highlighting the plight of those caught in the conflict.
Indonesia plane crash death toll rises to 119 Indonesian officials say 141 bodies have been recovered after a military transport plane crashed in a residential Indonesia’s area of Medan on Tuesday. The military says none of the 122 people on board the Hercules C-130 survived when it hit houses and a hotel before bursting into flames. Many of the victims are thought to have been relatives of servicemen and women. But the latest death toll indicates there were at least 19 people killed on the ground. The military has repeatedly revised the passenger list, a sign of how loosely the military keeps track of who gets on its planes. It is also investigating whether some of those on board were paying passengers, which is not permitted according to local reports. Police official Agustinus Tarigan told reporters at a Medan hospital today morning that 141 bodies had been received. One official told the Jakarta Globe newspaper that some of the victims had to be identified by blood samples. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

farm business A company in Kenya is pioneering seed planting using an organic planting medium made from coconut husk. The mechanism is aimed at ridding the seeds off diseases ensuring transplantation is done with all roots intact and increase chances germination. Initially, farmers relied on soil to grow seeds but recently they are not enjoying the practice due to increased diseases interfering with germination. However, the new technology of raising seeds without soil has
Agrotech: New technology to help farmers yield more
ensured that all the seeds grow uniformly and has also reversed the woes associated with soil. Coco peats are placed in germination trays along with seeds and they not only enhance growth but provide nutrients too to the crops. Mr. Michael Mbathi, the owner of Mavuno Foods Ltd, says a soilless medium like pre-washed buffered coco peat are disease free and provide quality conditions for good germination. “We have been using Cocoponics Pro plus that is readily available, easy to handle,
lightweight, and produce uniform plant growth.” He said. Farmers fill about three quarters of the seedling tray with preferred seeds and seeds inserted at every tray hole. The rest of the hole is filled with Cocoponics pro coco peat and leave a space for watering. The mixture is moistened with dilute water and keep the germinating tray away from direct sunlight as the germinating seedlings are sensitive to too much heat. As the seeds germinate, they are supplied with enough water and foliar until they
are ready for transplanting but care be taken not to over water because it will hamper with germination rate. Unlike raising seeds on soil where transplanting is difficult to completely uproot the seedlings, this technology ensures that seeds are transplanted with all roots hence ensure maximum utilization of soil nutrients. “The major disadvantage of raising on soils is that once they are ready for transplanting, it is difficult to completely uproot seedlings without damaging the root system. This leads in
transplanting of seedlings with 20 percent ot its root system intact resulting to what agronomist term as severe transplant shock.” Said Grace Kabue, research executive at Cocoponics Africa Ltd. The technology comes at a time when Kenya’s and by extension Sub Saharan African soils have recorded worst yields since records began. Exploitation of arable land has come in the form of nutrient mining, soil erosion and over application of conventional pesticides making them more acidic.

nlike other fashion events, this one is taking high fashion to the people and more specifically to the slums. The event will take place at Moi Girls Nairobi which is near Kibera to bring high fashion close to Kibera residents. Wilkinson Odinga, the founder of the event says “our vision is to see people from the slums contributing in the growth of the fashion industry not just locally but also internationally.” The idea of Fashion Torch was inspired by his desire to bring together designers, models, stylists, bloggers, fashion brands and companies connecting them to investors, consumers, stores, retailers and the media. “I want to contribute to the growth of our fashion industry and I would like to see it contribute to our economy even if it’s by a small percentage,” he says. Odinga is also bringing a new concept to how fashion shows
are organised. “I am bringing in some creative concepts like the use of light technology and some interior designing to bring out the designer’s vision when they showcase their new collections.” This is because he feels that a fashion show is supposed to market the designer and make them feel that they are gaining something from participating in it. They are also working with people with disabilities, designers and models who will be given a chance to showcase their designs on the day. It will bring together established designers like Vaishali Morjaria who will mentor up and coming designers on how to promote, brand and market fashion in the slums. The idea of taking high fashion to the slums is not new in Africa. The Sapeurs (the Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People) of Kinshasa, DRC and the Dandies of Brazzaville, The Congo are a
group of men living in slum s and have demonstrated that it does not matter where you live; you can still look elegant. In a 2014 Guinness advert the Sapeurs are shown as “ordinary” people in the day at their various odd jobs but at night they turn the slum into a fashion runway dressed in bold coloured three-piece suits, silk socks, crocodile skin shoes, fedoras and carrying canes to put emphasis on the elegance! One of the Sapeurs’ principle states; A Congolese Sapeur is a happy man even if he does not eat, because wearing proper clothes feeds the soul and gives pleasure to the body. With the help of Wilkinson Odinga, the concept of the Dandies and Saupers might be introduced to Kenyan slums. Will that not be elegant?

Good news; there is a creative way to put mathematical concepts such as geometrical construction into use whilst recycling old cutlery to produce unique household décor in the form of plate clocks; so get out those old rusty Oxford geometrical sets, porcelain plates coupled with a marker pen, sand paper and a clock mechanism and let’s do this! Begin by laying your plate of choice face down on a flat working space. Using a ruler, measure out the plate’s diameter and then divide the

ou have desperately wanted to build a porch/verandah outside your house, but that old tree sitting on your spot of interest has been hindering you from having the ultimate sophisticated homestead appeal that an outside porch brings. In addition to unlicensed cutting down of trees being illegal in the country, you are also an environmentalist who doesn’t want to contribute to the global warming menace by deforestation. There is also the issue of space limitation, where a huge tree may be occupying a lot of space in your compound. Relax: You can still get your desired exterior porch at the exact desired spot without having to go back on your environmental police role or intruding into your neighbor’s yard seeking additional construction space. Building around trees instead of cutting them down is a concept that has for long been a secret of Western architecture. The concept seeks to build a symbiotic relationship with the environment by following the principle of incorporating components of nature in construction instead of destroying them. It entails bringing up structures at points where trees are rooted such that the trees appear to go right through the structures. The result is a creative, sophisticated and environmental friendly design which will leave people throwing second glances at your homestead, wondering whether the porch is on top of the tree or whether the tree is actually going through the porch. The biggest advantage of this design is that it incorporates a little taste of every generation including the traditional, colonial and modern eras.

result by two to obtain the plate’s specific midpoint. At this point, carefully drill a hole through the midpoint, ensuring that the hole is wide enough for a clock’s hands-support rod to pass through. Use the sand paper to scrub the plate’s surface so as to allow smooth drawing or decoration using the marker pen according to your taste, as well as the inscription of time numbers which you will do using a protractor to divide the plate’s circumference into the twelve hours convention. After the inscribed numbers and decorated patterns properly dry, disassemble the clock mechanism and fix it on the plate such that the battery and gear compartment remains on the backside of the plate with the anterior rod going through the priory drilled hole. Finally, refit the clock’s hands into place on the rod on the front side of the plate.

Depending on your sex, age and rate of metabolic activities the body stores these fats in the tummy area. Eating late at night is also a bad habit that contributes to belly fat. Here are some magical foods to help you stay lean around the mid-section. Watermelon Watermelon is a good source of water. If eaten at the beginning of a meal it keeps the body feeling full for longer without adding a substantial amount of calories. It also helps reduce water retention. Nuts and Beans Mixed nuts and seeds such as walnuts and pecans are rich in anthocyanidins while pistachios and cashews are high in the flavonols catechins which helps to fight belly fat. Lupita has been in the country for a few days now and even though Kenyans are proud of her success, they do not seem to be happy about some aspects. Yesterday, NTV’s Larry Madowo sat down with the star to grill her about her role as the world ambassador for elephants. At some point in the interview she was asked what she missed most about Kenya and she said ugali. Stating that it was because she did not know how to make the Kenyan delicacy. Kenyans took to social media with some stating their outrage and some creating hilarious memes about the star’s comments. C’mon Lupita learn how to cook our staple food, will you?

DAILYHOROSCOPES CAPRICORN Dec 22 - Jan19 Your mind is surprisingly clear today, Capricorn, and your thinking fits in line with what your ego has set out to accomplish. The key for you is to let your emotions speak. While you’ve spent the last couple days in contemplation, the next few days should be more action oriented. AQUARIUS Jan 20 - Feb 18 Your mood is likely quite good, Aquarius, and you have an added boost of self-confidence that will help you along in just about any project you undertake. While the last couple days may have felt slow and a bit stagnant, today you’re ready to take action. PISCES Feb 19 - Mar 20 The challenge will be to find a working resolution between them. Your mind is moving toward a more sensitive and receptive approach, while your heart is in more of an attack mode. Unfortunately, these two energies don’t normally work well together.

ARIES Mar 21 - Apr 19 You may be asked to handle many tasks at once, something you’re naturally quite good at, Aries. There’s a strong need to take action and get things done, while you may also feel a strong inward pull asking you to settle down and reflect.
Sudoku
TAURUS Apr 20 - May 20 The tricky part is how you’re going to plan your attack so that there’s an equal balance of give and take. Today’s prevailing energies may catch you in a difficult situation. Sometimes an outwardly directed, argumentative approach is the only way to push through the roadblock. GEMINI May 21 - Jun 21 It seems like the starting gate has just opened and you’re leading the charge. The one thing that could put a damper on the race is your rational mind reminding you that it’s also important to stop. Look around and reflect on what’s going on around you. CANCER Jun 22 - Jul 21 You’re feeling rather sensitive today, Cancer. You may want to rescue every injured animal from the side of the road. Combine this nurturing, loving instinct with a warrior drive that will take charge and lead the fight. This powerful energy duo is very action oriented. LEO Jul 23- Aug 22 There’s a great deal of fiery energy in the air today that’s promoting a “me first” attitude. It may come in direct conflict with your peaceful, diplomatic nature. Also, people may be a bit more sensitive than usual. It will be harder to stomach the slights or insults that result. VIRGO Aug 23- Sep 22 More than likely, your rational brain knows the right way to go. Your mood may dictate the action, but let your brain handle the steering. Don’t get overly worked up over nothing. Tempers may rise in heated debates over what is and isn’t fair. Be part of the solution, not the problem. LIBRA Sep 23- Oct 22 It’s as if you’re making a new start and now is your chance to begin with a fresh new attitude. Realize that a sensitive nature is what will help you be victorious on this day. Keep your mind focused inward while you pursue outwardly directed activities. SCORPIO Oct 23 - Nov 21 It may seem like there’s contention around every corner. Remember that your path is the one that you chose. You may or may not have anticipated the barriers, but they’re unavoidable. The key to success is to strike the right balance between inner and outer activities. SAGITTARIUS Nov 22 - Dec 21 Your emotions are fired up and ready to go. Your instincts are ready for a new challenge. If anything slows you down today, it will be your rational thinking. Your self-protection mechanism may kick in just when things start to get exciting. Strike the right balance.

What makes safe abortion ethical madam FIDA?
I am in a straight betwixt two, whether to support the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA) and oppose the government on whether or not healthcare workers should be trained on safe abortion. Albeit, as I listened with half my mind to Harun Ndubi, FIDA lawyer that abortion is permissible in Kenya where the life of the expectant mother is in danger, the other half wandered to the life of that baby girl or baby boy whose life is in danger too and whose human value is indiscriminately obscured by the value of the mother The government, by withdrawing the policy standards and guidelines
on abortion, rendered abortion of any form absolutely unethical, while FIDA is pushing to create situation ethics out of what is obsolete. Let me tell you people, nothing makes a well-cherished law impotent than the “what if ”-situational ethics. We understand the concern of FIDA but, what makes safe abortion safer in the light of moral norms? Remember, you cannot give man the power to do good without giving him the power to do evil. Let FIDA convince the world that the acquired knowledge will not be used on illegal and unsafe abortion for selfish incentives. — Phabian Paul Jr, Nairobi
Of NTSA and their double standards
Am I the only one wondering why the National Transport and Safety Authority has not suspended Ongata Line and Serian Sacco’s as is custom action for Sacco’s sponsoring matatus causing accidents? A few weeks ago, the popular Tazmania matatu plying route 125 was involved in a serious accident where several passengers got seriously injured. The accident was allegedly caused by recklessness of the driver. Just two days ago, a Serian Sacco matatu was also involved in a serious accident along Lang’ata road where the life of one person was lost with others being seriously injured as of Monday. My question is, why has the NTSA not suspended these Saccos yet they have suspended the Embasava Sacco after one of their matatus was involved in an accident? Are the lives of people from particular areas not as important as others? Mercy Guthua, Ruiru
Obama and his squad can make do with ugali and chapati Word on the street is Obama’s visit to Kenya will cost US taxpayers close to Sh6 billion. I understand that the most powerful man in the world is going to rack up an exorbitant bill but come on! This is ridiculous! I acknowledge the fact that there is a team securing the country as we speak and that Obama will need an entourage of secret service agents, fuel for his famous plane, aptly named Air Force One and of course, his bullet-proof limo. But if he is going to spend billions in Kenya, he might as well save a few hundred millions while he’s at it. The commander in chief can stay at an inn, for instance. Forget these hotels that charge Sh2,000 for a plate of baked beans from a Heinz container that barely costs
Sh250. The head of state can also stay at my place. It will be a tight fit but the askari’s quarters can hold a handful of secret service agents. Michelle can get the bed because that’s how you treat a goddess and I can tandaza a mattress for Barrack because mwanaume ni back-pain. If the kids tag along, I can free up the couch and let them watch some Spongebob on my 42 Inch Samsung Full HD TV. This is, of course, my humble opinion, but the secret service doesn’t need a five-star dinner. They can make do with ugali and mutura with a side of spinach. Even Michelle would love chapatti, assuming she’s never had it. All these flashy accommodations and unnecessary luxuries make
it look like the Queen of England is making the trip. And she has her own ridiculous highbrow tendencies that greatly need to be addressed. Those hats of hers have enough swag to carry all the busses in London but they must cost a fortune! If some of the cheddar that El Presidente is spending is going towards Kenya, then show me the money! Hopefully, the person handing Obama the receipt will put that cash to good use. We can build schools, buy hospital equipment and fix some roads with that kind of money. I’m just saying, of course. Welcome Obama! True Patriot, Nairobi
Government to blame for lives lost through unsafe abortions The rate of abortion in Kenya has been on historic highs since 2010 when the new constitution was passed despite the fact that it clearly outlined the circumstances under which abortion is to be done legally. However, a number of women have taken advantage of the new law, twisting and misinterpreting it at will just so as to carry out an abortion. The law further fuels irresponsibility. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) show that out of 1000 women, 266 die carrying out unsafe abortions. . This is a shocking and worrying figure number to be lost and I personally blame the government for this. Our lawmakers should make some critical amendments to the constitution to safe lives. —Enock Ndayala, Kawangware

Tusker raid limping Leopard’s camp to sign trio Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker FC has completed the signing of AFC Leopards trio Abdallah Juma, Noah Wafula and Burundian Emmanuel Ngama. The players are said to have signed two-year deals after terminating their contracts with AFC Leopards due to unpaid dues accumulating to a period of four months. The three therefore join six other players namely goalkeepers Wycliffe Kasaya (Nakumatt) and Joel Bataro (Sony Sugar), defenders Joseph Shikokoti Imbenzi (Ushuru FC), Martin Imbalambala (Nakumatt FC) and Jacob Keli (Nkana FC, Zambia), who too terminated their

Sources from the club said Juma and Wafula started training with the Ruaraka based side on Monday 29 June and Ngama is expected to join them on Wednesday. Defender Jackson Saleh, midfielder Musa Mudde and strikers Mike Khamati, Karim Nduggwa have also touted ditching the 13 time champions with Bandari FC the likely destination for the Ugandan duo of Mudde and Nduggwa.

I WOULD: Liberia FA (LFA) president Musa Bility says he will step aside if the Confederation of African Football (Caf) boss Issa Hayatou wants to bid for the Fifa presidency.
Bility would step aside if Hayatou makes Fifa bid Liberia FA (LFA) president Musa Bility says he will step aside if the Confederation of African Football (Caf) boss Issa Hayatou wants to bid for the Fifa presidency. Bility announced his intentions to stand in June after current Fifa president Sepp Blatter announced he would step down amid allegations of corruption among officials. “I believe that if the president of CAF puts up his hand up to run, I would definitely bow out of the race to him,” Bility said. The 48-year-old Bility is the second person to declare his candidacy after former Brazil international Zico. Bility, who has led the Liberian FA since 2010, is only the second African to make a bid to become Fifa president after Hayatou
lost to Blatter in 2002. The LFA boss admits that he is yet to speak directly to Hayatou about his bid. “Well I’m aware that he has got the message and I have an indication of his reaction, and it’s not negative,” he said. “The fact is that I have not spoken with him and I intend to do that very soon.” The two men have not always seen eyeto-eye. In 2011 he broke ranks with most of his African colleagues by declaring he would vote against Blatter in that year’s Fifa elections. Fifa has called an extraordinary meeting of its Executive Committee for July, when the date for the presidential elections will be decided - they are expected between December 2015 and March 2016.
Guus Hiddink has left his position as Netherlands head coach after just 10 months in charge. The 68-year-old began his second spell in charge in August and had a contract until the end of Euro 2016 Hiddink lost five and won four of his 10 matches in charge and leaves his position with the Dutch third in their Euro 2016 qualifying group. They are five points behind leaders Iceland and three adrift of the Czech Republic in Group A. “I am sorry that it went this way,” said Hiddink. “I thought it was an honour to again coach the Dutch national team and I wish my successor, the staff and the players every success on the way to the European Championships in France.” The rest of the coaching staff - including assistant Danny Blind - will remain in place. Hiddink’s Netherlands defeated Spain 2-0 in a
friendly in March, but suffered defeats to Iceland and the Czech Republic to damage their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2016. The top two finishers in each of the nine qualifying groups, plus the highest-placed team finishing third will automatically qualify for the finals in France next year. The winners of four play-off ties contested by the remaining eight third-placed teams will join them. Dutch Football Association (KNVB) director Bert van Oostveen said: “I regret this development. Unfortunately, the results of Guus’s work were not immediately visible for everyone.” The former Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven and Chelsea c o a c h has also managed Au s t r a l i a , Russia, Turkey and South Korea in a 28-year career.
Clinical USA into Women World Cup final The USA will play in their fourth Women’s World Cup final after beating two-time winners Germany at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. Germany striker Celia Sasic missed a penalty on 58 minutes, but USA captain Carli Lloyd kept her head to score from the spot 10 minutes later. Substitute Kelley O’Hara booked the USA’s place in the final six minutes from time with a close-range volley.
The winners will play England or Japan in Vancouver at 00:00 BST on Monday. It was a hard-fought semi-final encounter played out in front of a partisan crowd of more than 50,000, but English-born coach Jill Ellis’s USA side took their chances to end Germany’s World Cup dreams. Olympic champions USA came into the match boasting the meanest defence of the tournament; in five games only Australia had beaten goalkeeper Hope Solo and that was in their opening match.

Rugby 7s has been excluded from the 2015 Pan African Games set for September in Congo, Brazzaville. The decision was reached a couple of weeks ago in efforts to avoid clashing with the 2015/2015 IRB Sevens Series which starts in October, next year’s Olympic qualifiers set for South Africa in November was also another factor that lead to the axing. According to Sports commissioner Gordon Oluoch, a meeting was held in Brazzaville where the discipline was dropped. “We had a meeting and the organisers told us due to the congested rugby Sevens calendar, it

MTN-Qhubeka to become first African team in Tour de France This year’s Tour de France promises to be one of the tightest in years, as MTNQhubeka will make history as the first African team to ride. Having received a wildcard invitation to the Tour, South African team MTNQhubeka has an unprecedented five African riders in its nine-man team for the July 4-26 event, including Eritrea’s Daniel Teklehaimanot, 26, and Merhawi Kudus, 21. Eritrea has previously pulled out of international sporting events, including the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations football tournament, after football teams repeatedly defected when allowed to leave the country. Members of the national football team have defected twice. But President Isaias Afwerki praised the “remarkable achievement” of the two Eritreans in the team, handing over “racing bicycles and other gifts” to them. Both cyclists have been racing internationally for several years. “The unprecedented achievement of the cyclists attests to the high technical level that cycling has reached in the country,” Isaias said. “The participation of Eritrea’s top cyclists

in international races of high reputation will inspire the youth who see these successful cyclists as role models.” A damning United Nations report earlier this month said some 5,000 people flee each month from the isolated Red Sea state from compulsory military service and horrific human rights violations by the government. Four of the five African MTN-Qhubeka
riders took part in the Tour de France warm-up race, the Critérium du Dauphiné, where Teklehaimanot won the polka-dot climber’s jersey. There are also three South Africans in the team, Jacques and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and national champion Louis Meintjes. The other four are from Belgium, Britain, Norway, and the United States.

Argentina thrash Paraguay 6-1 to set Copa final date with Chile Argentina remain on course to win their first Copa America title since 1993 after thrashing Paraguay to set up a final against tournament hosts Chile. Marcos Rojo put Argentina ahead from Lionel Messi’s free-kick and Javier Pastore made it 2-0 with a low shot. Lucas Barrios pulled one back from 20 yards, but Angel Di Maria then netted twice, slotting in from Pastore’s pass and then converting a rebound. Sergio Aguero headed in a fifth and Gonzalo Higuain blasted in a sixth. It was an impressive victory from Gerardo Martino’s side as La Albiceleste moved into the Copa America final for the third time in four competitions and will play Chile in Santiago on 4 July. Although he did not score, it was another influential performance from skipper Messi, who had a hand in three of the six goals. His free-kick led to Rojo opening the scoring in the 15th minute and then the four-time World Player of the Year created the second with a jinking run before setting up the impressive Pastore.
