resident Uhuru Kenyatta today flew to Juba, South Sudan to attend an Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) mini-summit to witness the signing of a peace deal by President Salva Kiir. Mr Kiir is scheduled to sign the deal later

today, after he failed to do so last week in Ethiopia. The International community has put pressure on Kiir with both the US and the UN warning that they are ready to “act immediately” should he fail to sign the deal with rebels. CONTINUED ON PAGE 4

We are done with TSC, teachers’ unions say Teachers unions have now declared as closed any negotiations between them and their employer, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on the implementation of their salary pay rise. Both the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet) today announced that they will call for strikes if the pay increase is not

implemented by August 31, 2015. Although Knut attended a crisis meeting called by TSC today, Kuppet gave it a wide berth claiming it is a tactic to delay the pay implementation. “We will not engage in further negotiations. The government has four days to effect new pay for teachers or we call for a strike on September 1,” CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
