Pay cuts proposed for teachers money

he Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has proposed a pay cut for Senators and Members of the National Assembly to raise money to pay teachers.

Three senators led by the coalition co-principal Moses Wetang’ula said they are ready for the pay cut to meet

the teachers’ demands. Speaking in Machakos county during the burial of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s father, Wetang’ula told President Uhuru Kenyatta that leaders should sit and agree on how to re solve the crisis caused by teachers’ strike.

“Your excellency when the opposition is criticising you over

certain things that are not right in your leadership it does not mean that we are enemies,” Wetang’ula told President Kenyatta who was also present at the function.

Kaindi now withdraws case challenging her sacking Former Deputy Inspector General of Police Grace Kaindi has today withdrawn a case she had filed to challenge her sacking by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Through lawyer Jessie Oduor, Kaindi told the court that she is considering alternative ways to seek redress over the decision.

She had moved to court last week and sought to overturn the President’s decision which she claimed had gone against the law. President Kenyatta had announced that Kaindi had been appointed an ambassador to a yet to be named station.

The National Police Service Commission later explained that Kaindi had been replaced because she had attained the retirement age of 60 years.

But Kaindi distanced herself from the explanations. In her suit papers, she had claimed that as a deputy Inspector General, she could not be fired without due process being followed.

She accused the government’s legal adviser, AttorneyGeneral Githu Muigai, and

the National Police Service Commission of violating the Constitution and the law on the National Police Service.

Kaindi also said the decision to remove her was never put in writing and, therefore, the directive to sack her was an “illegal roadside declaration”.

She accused President Kenyatta of violating the commission’s powers and challenged the fact that her replacement did not consider the two-thirds gender rule required by the Constitution.

Kaindi who has since been replaced by Joel Kitili, had insisted that her fiveyear contract ends in 2018 and hence the purported transfer violates her terms of employment.

Through lawyer, Kaindi told Justice Isaac Lenaola that the case should be withdrawn as she sought other avenues for redress.

Lobby calls for salary cuts The Ufungamano Initiative Organisation has called on the government to cut the salaries of civil servants and state officers saying the current wage bill is unsustainable.

Addressing the press today morning at Ufungamano House on the wage Bill and the teachers strike, the organisation described Kenya as a ‘consuming nation’ that must change its trends.

They said the low national saving stands at 12 percent of GDP against vision 2030 target of 30 percent of the GDP. This indicates that the country’s economy is not doing well.

The organisation secretary Boniface Adoyo said the country spend about Sh550 billion on wages translating to 11 percent of the Gross Domestic Products (GDP). He said this alone translate to 55 percent of the Total Tax Revenue collected in every financial year.

According to him, the government pays high salary to workers compared to the private sector.

He challenged the Salary and Remuneration Commission to harmonise the salary paid to civil servants and close the wide gap between the senior officers and their juniors in various institutions.

prosecute those involved,” he said.

Maina says though the teachers are employed by the Board of Management they had their rights to be in the school and not demonstrate.

“This is inhumane. It is illegal for teachers to demonstrate to a public institution that has nothing to do with our plight as teachers,” he added.

He says the demonstrating teachers should have directed their fury to the respective authorities and not to an independent institution.

Meanwhile, the teachers union insists the ongoing strike will still continue even as they await the court ruling slated for Friday next week.

Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion announced that they will stop demonstrations across the country as was directed by the court.

The court also ordered the Teachers Service Commission to stop threatening teachers who are on strike just a few days after TSC threatened to sack them.

Sossion has also condemned Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi over claims that no learning schedule will be changed following the strike.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has already ruled out any pay increase to the teachers saying it’s unsustainable and bound to cause imbalance in the

civil service wage structure which could lead to fresh demands by other workers.

Early this week, National Assembly majority Leader Aden Duale proposed that the three arms of government contribute money to assist in implementing the salary increment awarded to teachers by the court.

Duale pointed out that the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature, through CDF kitty, should donate towards settling teachers’ salaries and end the impasse.

Meanwhile the Education ministry has ruled out postponing the national examinations due at the end of this year.

Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi said the Kenya National Examinations Council will release the timetable for the exams this Friday so that candidates can plan and organize themselves appropriately for the tests.

“I want to assure you that necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the national exams continue as normal,” he told journalists at his office yesterday.

CUE vows to shut down satellite campuses The Commission for University Education (CUE) will from next week close down all satellite campuses in Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Narok and Kitale that do not meet accreditation requirements.

Commission’s secretary David Some said some of the campuses do not have enough physical infrastructure and lecturers or are simply not located in conducive environment for learning. Some said only

chartered universities are allowed to have campuses across the country. “We have realised that some universities have campuses across the country, yet they are not fully chartered universities,” he said. The secretary blamed the mushrooming of the campuses across the country on the increasing demand for education against few universities. “It is a question of demand and supply, there are many people who want

to acquire education, leading to establishment of the satellite campuses, but we must ensure all campuses meet the basic minimum requirement.” Some said.

He said in any campus, there must be an office, with at least four senior lecturers and a library where students can study.

“What we have in most campuses across the country are learning centres with no adequate space and lecturers, this is against the law

and we will close such campuses as from next week,” Some said.

He urged University Senates to ensure lecturers teach their students and mark all test papers. “We have cases where students complain of missing test papers, as a commission we cannot do much on this, but University Senates are entirely in charge of their lecturers,” he said. Some said there 38 public universities and 31 private ones that are

accredited by the Commission for Higher Education to offer degree courses. He urged all students to check with the commission before enrolling to any university for a degree course. We have seen instances where students study for four years only to realise that they have bogus degrees not recognised by employers.

Sh33 billion to booSt war againSt hiV/aidS, tb The government has signed a Sh33 billion grant agreement with the Global Fund to expand interventions for HIV/Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in the country. Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich said the move will enable the health sector to buy medicine and equipment required for curbing the diseases in the country.

Rotich said the move will also help the government

provide ARVs treatment to one million people and distribute seven million treated nets across the country.

“We want the rate of infections of the three diseases to go down that why we want to scale up the funds set aside to the health sector,” he said.

In the 2015/16 the government had set side Sh2.6 billion to help bridge the financing the gaps under the three diseases.

Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said following the signing of the agreement, an additional 600,000 patients HIV/Aids will now be able to receive treatment.

“As a government we are ready and committed to work with other partners and stakeholders in the health sector to help the needy in the society,” he said. Global Fund Grant Management head Mark Edington said the

partnership will help bring positive impact in the lives of many needy Kenyans.

“This partnership is set to help many people and thereby contribute to their health and economic development,” Edington said. “It is inspiring to see the efforts made by Kenya government to ensure the health sector is given priority and more Kenyans receive the necessary support,” he added.

The financial resources

provided through the Global Fund came from many sources and partners, including US government, Japan, the European Union, United Kingdom for International Development, UNAIDS and World Health Organisation.

It will be managed by four organisations, namely the National Treasury, African Medical and Research Foundation, the Kenya Red cross Society and the Kenya Aids NGOs consortium.

IPOA condemns attack on police post by residents The Independent Police Oversight Authority has condemned the attack by the public of a police cell in Kapsabet.

The authority has raised concerns over the incident in which members of the public caused the release of a suspected criminal from police custody before lynching him and two others in Kapsabet Town, Nandi county.

During the incident, 10 police officers were injured with some hospitalised.

The authority says while it appreciates public participation and concerns in security matters, it condemns the residents for storming a police station before killing suspects and attacking officers. “With a serving Police Service and a robust Judiciary in place, it is unacceptable for anyone to take the law into their own hands.

This is likely to foster anarchy and break established order in society,” the authority said in a statement.

Kenya sees flower exports curbed amid El Nino disease risk Kenya’s flower exports may stall this year as wet weather curbs production and costs increase because of the weakening shilling, the Kenya Flower Council said.

According to Bloomberg, Shipments totalled 54.6 billion shillings ($519 million) in 2014 and the industry will be “doing OK” if that level is matched this year, Jane Ngige, the council’s chief executive officer, said in an interview Sept. 11.

Kenya supplies about 38 percent of the cut flowers sold in Europe, according to the council.

Horticulture exports generated $928 million last year, one of the East African country’s biggest foreignexchange earners alongside

tea and tourism revenue, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics data shows.

“The first half of 2015 has been a difficult year,” Ngige said. “The weather has been strange. We are yet to see what that has done to the volumes.”

While most of Kenya’s flowers are grown in greenhouses or under nets that protect the crop from heavy rains, wetter weather can make the flowers more susceptible to diseases, Ngige said.

The industry is bracing for the onset of the El Nino weather phenomenon, which the Kenya Meteorological Department says will probably bring “above-average” rainfall to the country in the fourth quarter, Bloomberg reports.

“El Nino is likely going

to affect production” by damaging infrastructure or leading to diseases associated with increased moisture, Ngige said.

Kenya and other producers such as Colombia and Ecuador boosted exports in recent years because of their ability to achieve large-scale production of “good-quality” flowers at competitive prices, according to Rabobank.

That’s reduced the dominance of the Netherlands, the world’s biggest cut-flower exporter, whose market share dropped to 52 percent in 2013 from 58 percent a decade earlier, it said in a January report. Total global exports of flowers more than doubled to $21.1 billion in 2013, from $8.5 billion in 2001, the lender said.

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) plans to collect Sh15 billion over the next three years from various institutions holding unclaimed financial assets.

The Authority has to date received over Sh3.4 billion from institutions that have been holding such assets.

The Authority was officially launched today by Henry Rotich, Cabinet Secretary for The National Treasury.

“Matters relating to unclaimed financial assets touch on the fulfillment of grand aspirations on national wellbeing which is a core value defining the commitment of the Jubilee government to transform lives,” said CS Rotich.

At the launch, UFAA made symbolic payments to 10 claimants who had made

claims of their assets. UFAA said it would intensify efforts to re-unite unclaimed financial assets to their owners guided by its three year strategic plan, which was also launched today.

The plan provides a roadmap for efficient and effective management of unclaimed financial assets in the country and ultimately ensures that the money has been re-united with their beneficiaries.

“The Authority is committed to being a trusted institution in the management of unclaimed financial assets. Our sense of focus throughout will be on re-unification of unclaimed financial assets with their rightful owners, mutual stakeholder engagement and dedication to excellence, with the desire to better the

lives of Kenyans,” said Kellen Kariuki the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer.

The Authority will embark on a research to establish how much is being held by different institutions. It is estimated that various companies could be holding between Sh50 billion and Sh280 billion.

“Our everyday commitment is fulfilling the government’s mandate in ensuring that unclaimed financial assets have been fused with their rightful owners.

This dedication is aimed at meeting the yearning to better the life of Kenyans, lift their social standing and accord the citizenry the pride of nationalism,” said Vincent Kimosop chairman UFAA.

Goat-killing menace mutates to clean energy source in rural Kenya A goat-killing toxic shrub that was the bane of Rift Valley’s Marigat town now has a new starring role: a clean fuel that lights homes and can earn villagers up to $1,000 a year.

Jane Chirchir is one Marigat resident who has turned the tables on the invasive Prosopis juliflora, a kind of mesquite tree. The dense shrub, which can grow up to 12 metres (39 feet) in height, had spread across the area, choking grazing land and poisoning livestock.

Now ‘mathenge’, as it is known locally, it is being harvested and sold as fuel for an electric power station that has for the first time brought power to some village homes and reduced power cuts at others.

“The company buys the raw materials from us,” said a happy Chirchir. “This is helping my family recover the loss we incurred when our goats died after eating mathenge.” She said she had lost 15 animals to the pest.

Using the shrub for fuel represents a turnaround for villagers, who five years ago faced economic collapse after a court rejected a lawsuit seeking to force the government to clear the invasive plant from their land and compensate herders for their losses.

Most of the 560,000-strong population of Baringo County, which stretches over 11,000 square kilometres (4,200 square miles), are livestock herders.

The plant was first introduced into the area about 25 years ago by the Kenyan government and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization to serve as a windbreak to cut erosion and slow desertification.

But planting the invasive species had unintended consequences. Village elders said that when goats ate pods from the mathenge the seeds stuck in the animals’ gums, poisoning them.

Others claimed that the shrub’s long and deep roots encroached upon the foundations of their homes, eventually destroying them.

Now, however, the plant’s very ability to spread and regenerate rapidly is causing money to flow into Chirchir’s home, and many others, as villagers harvest and sell it as biomass fuel to a power generation plant in Marigat.

In the churches’ defense, the three fundamental pillars of society have failed miserably in performing the role of molding decent and respectable individuals. Think about it; the first pillar which is the family is too embarrassed to have sexual conversations with

teenagers while the other pillar, which is the media, is basically the source of the rot. The third pillar comprises school teachers who are, well, on strike. This leaves the church as the only hope for a sane generation and lucky for us, churches like Mavuno have stepped up to their role attempting to averse perverted versions of sex such as rape and incest and

re install the original version which was meant to be pure and holy. Churches, however, need to moderate their approaches to these sex conversations and avoid use of secular attention catchers such as musical and film adaptations as well as suggestive female fashion and images in order to maintain their puritanical status.

IS THE CHURCH GOING TOO FAR?

he past two weeks has seen #Mavuno trend for all the wrong reasons. Yesterday the lead pastor was in almost all stations defending their stand on sex educating young people in the church.

If you belong to the old school of thought then a mention of the word sex within the confines of a religious institution would prompt you to cover your ‘virgin’ ears in utter disbelief. So uptight was the society back then and way before, that even the scripture writers had to use euphemisms such as ‘Adam knew Eve’ in place of the ‘s’ word.

But hey, that was long ago. We are now in the 21st century where putting everything out in the open is the order of the day and conservatism has no place in society or religion anymore.

You would expect the church to be a place of refuge when you have had enough of luridness in the media, entertainment and internet world but on the contrary, most church sermons today are inclined towards the

sexual perspective with no shame or regret. The justification of these religious institutions bringing the sex sermons to church lies in the fact that there is a gap that needs to be filled in society following the rise of sexual decadence especially among teenagers and young adults.

The Mavuno Church has been on the forefront in conducting sex discussions since breaking the internet last year with their ‘Blurred Lines’ poster advertising their teenzkonnekt program.

But it is not only the Mavuno community that has incorporated the titillation angle into their religious programs. Churches established by missionaries have also been conducting sex education classes mainly during initiation camps with the teachings being conducted subtly under the rule of ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’ But can we really blame churches for incorporating sex into sermons?

KRA targets Sh3bn in tax LG banks on products to amnesty for rental income smart woo consumers

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched a nationwide campaign on tax amnesty for rental income to create awareness and enhance voluntary compliance by landlords.

The campaign is aimed at bringing 20,000 new landlords on board to pay at least Sh3 billion in revenue valid until June 30, 2016.

The amnesty include 100 per cent waiver on principal taxes, penalties and interest for 2013 and 100 per cent waiver on penalties and interest for 2014 and 2015.

KRA’s Commissioner John Njiraini said the campaign is designed to give landlords the opportunity to disclose any unpaid and underpaid tax. “The aim of this campaign is to encourage landlords who have not been paying tax to declare and voluntarily pay any undisclosed tax,” he said.

According to him, despite the significance growth in real estate sector which has witnessed an annual average growth rate of 7.2 per cent between 2008 and 2014, tax revenue from the sector has not been commensurate.

UK developers will soon roll out a small holder version of a new technology that controls temperature in poultry sheds in the country.

The complex multi-layered laminate of aluminium foil dubbed Valéron AVA is beneficial to poultry growers especially in Sunbelt regions because it cuts brooding costs, increases stocking, saves on electricity bills and halves temperaturerelated illnesses and deaths.

Food Chain Innovation director Allan Meldrum said producers are experiencing a boom in productivity with about 25 per cent reduced brooding costs while increased stocking rate of over 20 per cent.

“We now have repeat business from many of our clients. The latest sales are to Kenya, South Africa, DRC Congo, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana,” said Meldrum.

that optimise energy and enable pressure cleaning and has been rolled out in six African countries as a durable tool to convert heat in a hot climate and conserve it in cold seasons.

The food chain innovation says the product is ideal for use in refurbished or new poultry buildings because it allows light to spread evenly and reduce energy consumption of interior lighting by up to 10 per cent.

This is a step ahead of previous technologies employed to regulate temperature such as pressure pump and electricity that keep poultry warm but cannot regulate heat during hot spells.

However, the cost of the technology is still beyond reach for many smallholder farmers but with the rapid response by large scale poultry keepers in the last three months since its launch, plans are underway to launch a smaller scaled model.

Facebook approves ‘dislike’ button for users After years of complaints, requests and demands from users, Facebook is set to add a “dislike” button to its social network, company founder, Mark Zuckerberg has said.

Speaking during a forum held at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California, Zuckerberg said the button would be a way for people to express empathy.

He said Facebook was very close to having it

A “dislike” button has been constantly requested by some users since the introduction of the now-iconic “like” button in 2009.

“People have asked about the ‘dislike’ button for many years,” Zuckerberg told the audience on Tuesday.

and are very close to shipping a test of it,” he added.

The 31-year old CEO went on to say that he did not want the button to become a mechanism with which people could “down vote” others’ posts. He said the company would take certain measures to avoid becoming like the popular online community Reddit, where people’s posts can be voted up or voted down.

2015 AABLA winners announced

East Africa’s installment of the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA) came to a close during a Tuesday night gala event with a number of Kenyan leaders clinching a variety of titles. AABLA, in partnership with CNBC Africa, is an annual event that honours remarkable leadership on the continent. The Lifetime Achievement award for East Africa went to Jennifer Riria, CEO of NGO Kenya Women Holding Ltd. The winner of the AABLA 2015 Industrialist of the Year Award (East Africa) was Dr Benson Wairegi, Group Managing Director of Britam. Meanwhile, the winner of the Business Leader of the Year for was James Mworia, CEO of Centum Investments, one of East Africa’s largest private equity firms.

According to AABLA officials, the awards are aimed at distinguishing leaders who have contributed and shaped the African economy, and are visionaries behind today’s outstanding businesses.

1.5m Kenyans to join national power grid

The government has announced plans to connect another 1.5 million people to the national power grid. The $150 million (Sh15.9 billion) project comes just as Kenya Power has announced that the company is in talks with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to help finance the initiative.

The project is in fact the second phase of a plan to add a total of 3 million people to the grid at a time when roughly half of the population is not connected, Reuters reports.

“We are now discussing the second facility in less than two years,” Kenya Power CEO. Ben Chumo said in a recent announcement.

The AfDB will be contributing 90 per cent of the financing for the first phase, with the government covering the rest.

SPORTS BRIEFS Strathmore, KU to host weekends’ KUSA basketball games Kenyatta University (KU) and Strathmore University will host the Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) Nairobi basketball league on September 19. In the men’s league divided into Thika Road and Magadi Road, KU will take on Zetech University before meeting University of Nairobi (UoN) in the second match.

Technical University will clash with Mount Kenya as JKUAT entertain Kenya Methodist University (Kemu). The other men’s fixtures has Moi (Nairobi) against St Paul University. In women’s category, Strathmore University will play Jomo Kenya University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in the opening game. Tribunal throws out HKF petition, gives KHU nod to run hockey for 90 days

Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) has been given 90 days to continue running the sport after Sports Dispute Tribunal threw a way a petition by Hockey Kenya Federation (HKF) challenging KHU constitutionality.

Tribunal chairman John Ohaga in a 12-page ruling dismissed the petition and termed it ‘premature’, arguing that the tribunal cannot curtail the functioning of the office of Sports Registrar by dictating the final registration of organisations under the new Act. But HKF vice chairman George Jalang’o who sued Attorney General, Sports Cabinet Secretary and Sports Registrar termed the ruling ‘shocking’ and threatened to appeal the decision at the High Court.

“This is a sad day for sports in Kenya,” said Jalang’o who did not immediately appeal the decision said they will seek for other options.

“The tribunal was put in place to safeguard local sports but from the decision they have made today, it is clear they are selective. I will

not mince my words. The decision we got today is skewed,” added Jalang’o who cited Sports Act provision that gives the registrar 14 days from the date of registration to accept or deny application, maintaining that the tribunal’s decision to award 90 days is against the law.

“As we stand, it’s difficult for us to go against the court’s decision but it’s not over yet. We have the right to go to the High Court but we will consult with our lawyer and make a decision.

It’s also clear that we will challenge the decision because KHU did not bring any document as proof that they are registered,” added Jalang’o, a former Multimedia University head coach who has since been barred from accessing Nairobi City Park Stadium which houses KHU secretariat.

Sports Registrar was also directed to facilitate quick registration of the body that will run the national sports. “It is to be noted that the Act places an obligation on the Sports Registrar to continue recognising the existing sports

organisation upon its application by use of the word “shall” under section 50.”

In dismissing the petition as premature, the tribunal said certain aspects of the affidavit in support of the petition led them into questioning motivations and the organisational structure of the petitioner.

“To that extent therefore, we agree with counsel for KHU that the present appeal is premature and the petitioner must await the final determination of the Registrar,” read part of the ruling.

“In light of the foregoing, it would be speculative to pre-determine the decision of the Registrar therefore the tribunal finds that the appeal is premature.”

Australian boxer die four days after fight

Australian boxer Davey Browne has died four days after being knocked unconscious during a regional title fight in Sydney.

Browne, 28, was knocked out by Carlo Magali of the Philippines towards the end of a 12-round IBF super-featherweight contest on Friday. Browne’s life support was turned off after he failed to recover from his injuries.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has called for a ban on boxing following Browne’s death. Browne’s death comes just six months after Queensland boxer Braydon Smith collapsed and died following a featherweight bout in his hometown of Toowoomba. “One punch can kill, whether you are outside a pub on a Friday night or in a boxing ring, and this is the thing that causes young lives to end traumatically,” AMA vice-president Dr Stephen Parnis told Australian Broadcaster ABC.

as united lose while City gets beaten at home

anchester United got a rude welcome back to Champions League same as their neighbours Manchester City who extended their losing streak to three since their last 2-0 win against AS Roma in December 2014.

United had a luckless night in their Champions League opener which also saw Luke Shaw suffer a double leg fracture during a 2-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven same as City whose campaign got off to a disappointing start with a 2-0 home defeat by last season’s runners-up Juventus.

Shaw was chopped down by Hector Moreno before being carried off early in the 32 minute with Oxygen mask on his face. After a long delay, Memphis Depay scored a weaving opener on his return to PSV, but Moreno headed in from a corner in the injury time to level the scores at the break.

PSV’s Luciano Narsingh headed in a 57th-minute winner despite United dominating for long periods. Unlike previous games this season where Louis van Gaal’s side have struggled to turn their superiority into chances, they chalked up 17 shots on goal to PSV’s six. There were encouraging

displays from Depay, who scored his third of the season, and Anthony Martial, who made his full debut following his wonder goal during the win over Liverpool last Saturday.

Poor finishing let the visitors down, although their biggest concern will be over Shaw who will now suffer a lengthy lay-off.

City, who have struggled to make a serious impact in the Champions League and have never won their opening home game in the group stage, looked to be on course for victory when Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini headed into his own net under pressure from Vincent Kompany.

The Italians protested furiously that Chiellini had been fouled, but then produced an impressive response to come from behind and close out the win. Paul Pogba’s superb ball allowed Mario Mandzukic to steal in behind Eliaquim Mangala for the equaliser, then Alvaro Morata pulled substitute Nicolas Otamendi -on for Kompanyout of position before curling a precise left-foot finish beyond City keeper Joe Hart for the 81st-minute winner.

Raheem Sterling had two big

opportunities for City, but wasted both as Manuel Pellegrini’s side find themselves on the back foot once more in the Champions League.

Once again this was a night where City, dominant domestically with five wins out of five in the Premier League, still looked like they are struggling to convince themselves they belong in the exalted company of the elite soccer club in Europe.

Juventus’ pedigree is clear they reached last season’s final, but they had not won a game all season until beating City, whose cast-iron confidence in the league looks to be somewhat stripped away here and opponents like the experienced Italians are only too happy to expose those flaws in selfbelief.
