At least 12 people have been confirmed dead in yet another al-Shabaab attack in Mandera County.

The militants attacked a guesthouse in the town early today and also injured several other people.

Police officers involved in the rescue operation confirmed the fatalities but referred queries to higher authorities in the police ranks.

Ten people were rescued – including four who sustained serious injuries.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet confirmed the incident but remained guarded on the fatalities, while explaining that a statement would be issued at the end of the rescue operation.

The attack occurred when gunmen set off explosives at Boshari Guesthouse in the town at 3:30am.

Early this month, six people were killed in Mandera in an attack that was also blamed on al-Shabaab terrorists.

The attack occurred at a village near Bulla Public Works that had a total of 33 nonlocals, police said.

It was the first in the region in the last one year, authorities said.

he National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has today ordered for the immediate arrest of chief NYS theft suspect Josephine Kabura after she failed to honour its summon for the third consecutive time. Ms Kabura is accused of stealing some Sh791 from the National Youth Service through irregular tenders and had been summoned by the committee to explain what she knows about the matter.

“The witness has been a very difficult one to deal with and very difficult to reach as her mobile no is ever switched off. I will now write to the IG to force her to appear before us,” committee chairman Nicholas Gumbo said.

The committee members were irked by the absence of Kabura whose lawyer wrote to the chairman explaining that her client could not appear because she cannot not be traced.

Kabura’s three companies have been mentioned to have been paid up to Sh791 million from the NYS kitty despite doing no work in the Kibera slum upgrading program.

The members insisted that Kabura is a key witness in the NYS investigations and therefore must be compelled by all means to appear before the committee.

“It’s unfortunate that Kabura has failed to appear before us again, Kabura is a key witness in this NYS matter and we

cannot conclude without her input,” Gumbo added.

Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) said by failing to appear before the committee, Kabura has waived her right to be heard by the committee before the final report is written.

“This is an ordinary citizen who has done extraordinary things as far as this NYS scandal is concerned and therefore it is important that we meet her and hear her out,” Bosire said.

“We should not waste a lot of time thinking on what to do, lets instruct the IG to produce her before us,” Bosire added.

Abdikadir Aden (Mbalambala) who said the story of NYS does not add up without the input of Kabura. The legislator even suggested that Kabura be arrested today and presented before the committee before close of business.

“There is nothing like one week, lets write to the IG today and the lady be made to appear before us today latest tomorrow,” Aden said.

According to a letter by her advocate FI Omino, Kabura could not appear before the committee since she cannot be traced and hence asked the committee that her client be made to appear on November 11, a request which was vehemently rejected by the members.

Members of the committee were also irked by reasons given by Kabura’s lawyer explaining that the documents needed by the committee in relation to the NYS scandal are already documents of the court hence were uncomfortable to produce them again to the committee.

There is enough for starving Kenyans, State now says There is enough food in Kenya’s food reserve to distribute to over 1.3 million people who are starving of hunger, Parliament has heard today.

While appearing before the National Assembly committee on Agriculture and National Resources, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Willy Bett and his Devolution and Planning counterpart Mwangi Kiunjuri assured Kenyans not to panic saying the drought situation is not yet out of hand.

Prolonged drought in several parts of the country has left Kenyans in Kilifi, Mandera, Garissa, Samburu, Marsabit, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Wajir, laikipia, Turkana among other counties facing severe starvation.

But Bett heaped blame on Mr Kiunjuri for not ‘coming for food’ to distribute to the affected families.

On the contrary, Bett said he too was unable to release food available in its food reserve because the National Treasury has not allocated money for the distribution.

“My ministry cannot distribute or release food to drought stricken areas because treasury has not released money for the same,” Bett told MPs in the presence of Treasury PS kamau Thugge.

Kenya to float a second Eurobond

The government will continue with its plan to float a second Eurobond despite concerns raised by opposition chief Raila Odinga that more debt could be intolerable.

Speaking today during the launch of the Regional Economic Outlook at Serena Hotel, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich dismissed Mr Odinga as a mere speculator who raises speculations he cannot substantiate.

He said that the country was on course to accessing another syndicated loan but had not settled on a favourite investor.

On his allegations a fortnight ago, the former premier had claimed that Treasury had settled on the Irish Stock Market but Mr Rotich refuted that suggestion.

At the same forum, International Monetary Fund Kenyan representative Abebe Selassie gave the country a clean bill of health on the sovereign bond adding that the economy could sustain more debt.

“Looking at the current economic growth of five to six per cent Kenya can

Mr Odinga had warned international investors against granting Kenya another Eurobond until it accounts for every shilling of the Sh250 billion issued in 2014.

State finally begins Makonde registration The government has today began the process of registering the people of the Makonde community, ending their decades-long wait for the recognition as Kenyan citizens.

The Immigration Department started the process to ensure the minority community, originally from Mozambique, obtain Kenyan citizenship following a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure they are issued with national identity cards.

“All applicants eligible for registration will definitely be granted. Following the presidential directive, they should get their citizenship by December,” said Director of Immigration Services in a statement.

The exercise kicked off today morning at the Mvindeni Catholic Centre in Ukunda, Kwale County. An elated Mzee Nguli became the first individual to be registered as they braved the scorching heat to acquire the important IDs. Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa were at hand to oversee the process. A delegation of the nearly 10,000 member Makonde community trekked from Kwale to present a petition to President Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi early this month to acknowledge them as citizens. Court reinstates NGO board director Fazul The High Court has reinstated the NonGovernmental Organisations Coordination Board Executive Director, Fazul Mahamed, days after he was suspended by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Justice George Odunga also temporarily suspended the decision to dissolve the board of the State Corporation, which registers and regulates Non-Governmental Organisations in Kenya.

Odunga directed Fazul and the board to serve the CS with the suit papers to facilitate a hearing within the shortest time possible.

Kiunjuri had dissolved the board and sent Fazul on compulsory leave pending investigations into his academic qualifications but the NGO accused the CS of unilaterally making the decision. According to Kiunjuri, there had been numerous concerns over Mahamed’s academic qualifications at the time of his interview and subsequent appointment. The move came after a section of NGOs protested demanding the immediate suspension of Mahamed for allegedly sabotaging the implementation of the Public Benefit Organisations Act and claims that he used a fake degree to apply for the job.

Kiunjuri also dismissed allegations that he received a Sh20 million bribe as indicated on an affidavit allegedly written by Delphine Bram Christopher.

China pledges to help Kenya in fight against corruption The Chinese Government has pledged to support Kenya in its fight against corruption both in the public and private sectors.

Chinese assistant minister for Supervision of the Peoples Wang Lingjun said yesterday that China will help the Kenyan government in the areas of asset recovery and repatriation of illicit proceeds.

“We shall share our experiences in anti-corruption and provide opportunity for you to understand the various challenges in this fight that you are struggling with,” Mr Lingjun told Attorney General Githu Muigai during a courtesy call at the State Law Office.

“All countries have challenges but the support of the people we serve gives us the drive to ensure that we strive to achieve a zero tolerance status in China,” he added.

Mr. Lingjun reiterated that China backs Kenya in fight against graft.

He urged that perpetrators of graft should be dealt with firmly just like is the case in China.

“Your fear of corruption is what led China to put in austerity and harsh measures in addressing this vice.

Mr. Wang Lingjun, who is considered the third senior most ranked official in the Chinese Communist Party explained that for corruption to be tamed extravagance had to end no matter the cost.

ISIL captures Iraq town of Rutba as Mosul battle rages

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group took full control of a town in the western province of Al Anbar as thousands of troops try to expel its fighters from Mosul.

ISIS, fighters stormed Rutba which hosts more than 20,000 people following territorial losses in Mosul, the group’s last major urban bastion in Iraq.

In Rutba, they seized the mayor’s office, captured and executed at least five people - civilians and policemen - and controlled neighborhoods.

“Rutba is a very strategic town. It is seen as a significant victory,” said Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan, reporting from Erbil. “The fact that they lost this town is very significant.”

The town of Rutba controls the road from Baghdad to Jordan and Syria.

The campaign to retake Mosul comes after months of planning and involves more than 25,000 Iraqi troops, Kurdish forces, Sunni tribal fighters and state-sanctioned Shia militias. It is expected to take weeks, if not months, to drive ISIL out of Iraq’s second largest city, which is still home to more than a million people.

ISIL has suffered a series of setbacks over the past year. “What allowed ISIL to gain large traction in Iraq was the breakdown of the political order in Baghdad,” former Iraqi ambassador to the UN Feisal said.

“Leaderships throughout the country will have to make the necessary compromises and political bargains to dry out the swamp that allows ISIL to thrive.”

ISIL’s capture of Rutba came as Iraqi forces yesterday fought into two villages near Mosul as the offensive to retake Mosul entered its second week.

Several countries are involved in the battle to reclaim the key city, including Turkey which on Sunday confirmed its first attempted shelling of ISIL positions near Bashiqa, a key town near Mosul, at the request of Peshmerga forces.

Ten die in China, 150 injured after explosion

The death toll from a powerful explosion that destroyed buildings in the Chinese city of Yulin has risen to at least 10, with more than 150 people injured.

There are reports of a large crater where a two-storey building once stood, and images show widespread damage, with rubble in the streets.

The blast occurred Monday afternoon local time near a hospital.

Reports suggest illegally stored explosives might be to blame.

It appears the hospital was damaged in the explosion, which ripped through a nearby residential building.

State-run news agency Xinhua reported that more than 70 firefighters were sent to Xinmin township in Fugu County, where several people are believed to remain trapped inside collapsed buildings.

Polling stations open in must-win state of Florida

Polling stations have opened for early voting in the key battleground state of Florida, where Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump remain in a tight race.

Mr Trump is blitzing the state with five rallies while Mrs Clinton is also swinging through the Sunshine State.

Early voting by mail began in Florida weeks ago, with over a million people having already cast their votes. Democrat candidate Clinton holds a narrow three-point lead over Mr Trump in Florida. The former secretary of state had 46 percent of the vote compared with Mr Trump’s 43 percent the poll found.

Recent polls have put Mrs Clinton well ahead of her Republican rival both nationally and in several battleground states.

A new CNN national poll put Mrs Clinton six points ahead among likely voters, at 51 percent to 45 percent in a head-to-head withTrump.

Polling in Republican strongholds including Arizona, Georgia and Utah have also shown closer-than-expected races.

Speaking at a rally in St Augustine on yesterday,Trump, said: “Folks, we’re winning.

We’re winning. We’re winning.” He once again blamed the media, which he described as being

composed of “thieves and crooks” and “almost as crooked as Hillary”, and said the system is “corrupt and rigged and broken”.

Pollsters also came under fire, with Trump claiming the hacked emails of John Podesta showed the Clinton campaign chair was “rigging the polls by oversampling Democrats”.

The Republican nominee also hit out at his rival’s use of a personal email server while secretary of state, saying the FBI and Justice Department had inappropriately let her off the hook.

Dozens killed at Pakistan police college At least 58 cadets and guards have been killed after militants attacked a police college in the Pakistani city of Quetta, officials say.

Three militants wearing suicide bomb vests entered the college late on Monday, reportedly taking hostages.

A major security operation lasted for hours and all attackers were killed.

No group has said they carried out the assault, but Quetta has seen similar attacks by separatists and

Islamist militants in recent years.

Hundreds of trainees were evacuated from Balochistan Police College as troops arrived to repel the militants. Local media reported at least three explosions at the scene.

“I saw three men in camouflage whose faces were hidden carrying Kalashnikovs,” one cadet said according to AFP news agency.

“They started firing and entered the dormitory but I managed to escape over a wall.”

The police academy is home to

The exact sequence of events is unclear but there was intermittent exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces for several hours, according to Dawn newspaper. There were also reports of a hostage situation.

2.2 million SMEs close shop due to financial constraints At least 2.2 million Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have been shut down over the last five years, the latest report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has revealed.

The survey, dubbed the Micro, Small and Medium Establishment (MSME) report 2016, has found that most of the closed businesses were in the wholesale and retail trade as well as the motor vehicle repair and motor cycles sector, which accounted for 73 per cent of all the cessations.

“Establishments that were started or acquired within the last two years were more vulnerable to closures and they accounted for 61.3 per cent of the total businesses closed,” the report indicates.

The survey further revealed that establishments that were acquired within the last two years were more vulnerable to closure, accounting for 61.3 per cent of total businesses shut down. The report attributes the closure of these businesses to shortage of operating funds occasioned by increased operating expenses and declining capital from the business as reported by 29.9 per cent of the businesses.

“Diversion of returns and operating capital from the business to other uses also led to the closure of business whereas other businesses were closed due to personal issues, including social and obligations especially prenatal and

postnatal care of children, especially for women,” the report stated.

The year 2015 recorded the highest number of establishments closed, accounting for 35.4 per cent of the total number of closed enterprises in the last five years. About 1.2 million were closed in rural areas compared to one million establishments that closed down in urban areas.

100 Uber drivers benefit from share of Sh100 million Sidian Bank loan At least 100 Uber drivers have been able to buy their own vehicles under the Sidian Bank special loan facility announced in May this year.

Sidian Bank CEO Titus Karanja says so far Sh100million has been lent out with some drivers even seeking to acquire more vehicles.

Karanja says the bank is confident that the Sh10 billion facility set aside will have benefited the expected 10,000 Uber drivers within the given period of three years.

“It was unique because we were willing to give 100 per cent financing with no down payment and someone who was a driver yesterday walks out an entrepreneur. I am happy to report that today we have crossed the Sh100 million mark and for the period we have been running it we have not had a single default. Not one,” Karanja said.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has invited bids for a 15-year amortised infrastructure bond worth up to Sh10 billion in a tap sale. The bond will have a 12 per cent coupon and an average yield of 13.177 per cent. The bank said on Tuesday that it will accept bids between October 25 and November 3. At its auction on October 19, the weighted average yield of the bond was 13.177 per cent and the CBK sold Sh30.57 billion worth of the paper out of Sh30 billion offered.

The move comes barely a month after the CBK announced a plan allowing County governments to borrow up to five per cent of their budgeted revenue beginning December this year.

Speaking during last month’s Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council (IBEC) chaired

by Deputy President William Ruto, CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge said that the new framework had been agreed upon by Treasury after the Attorney General clarified on the Public Finance Management Act that had previously blocked such services.

Njoroge said the limit would make county governments more prudent in managing funds and have enough funding to carry out their programs.

The loans are payable within a year.

The Central Bank of Kenya is responsible for formulating monetary policy to achieve and maintain price stability.

It also promotes financial stability as wellas formulates and implements foreign exchange policies.

Jambojet announces additional flights with plans to cash in on festive season Jambojet has announced additional flights to all destinations across its network as the low-cost flyer moves to cash in on the approaching festive season.

The move is set to provide customers with more flight options to and from Nairobi, Eldoret, Kisumu, Lamu, Malindi, Ukunda and Mombasa ahead of the festive season.

“We are cognizant of the increased demand for flights during the festive season as people go on holiday or travel back home. We want to ensure that we provide our customers with value for money, greater choice as well as flexibility with the additional frequencies,” said Willem Hondius, Jambojet CEO. The low-cost service will increase its flights to Mombasa from 22 weekly journeys to 31 flights a week, while the flights to Kisumu, Eldoret and Ukunda will have a total of 20 flights per week each. Flights to Malindi will increase to 16 from the current 13 weekly.

“Jambojet has seen its passenger numbers grow year on year having increased by

18%. Increased demand on all our routes has seen the number of round trips grow from 2,522 to 3,312 for the financial year ending March 2016. Increased demand for domestic travel has seen Jambojet contribute 25 percent passenger growth in the domestic market since it started operations,” said Willem.

Jambojet currently serves Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Malindi, Ukunda and Lamu and has been credited for promoting local tourism as well as enhancing economic growth in business hubs across the counties.

The announcement comes just two months after Jambojet launched a pre-departure notification service to streamline operations within the business and enhance passenger experience following a partnership with 15below.

Launched in August, the automated pre-departure notifications will allow Jambojet to communicate pre-flight information such as online checkin times, cross-sell baggage and seat selection options to customers via email

Kenya will look to build its multilateral trade and investment relations with the US, Britain and Germany to grow economic capacity and competitive edge in Africa.

Speaking in Nairobi, during a country investor briefing, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Adan Mohamed confirmed that the government had stepped up its efforts to increase its trade, commerce and investment portfolio and partner with the West and Europe to leverage investment opportunities going forward.

“We are excited at these potential opportunities to amplify our relations as we seek to leverage our competitive advantages in diverse industries for our mutual benefit”, said Mohamed.

“We have had long and productive connections in the past and the interactions today will further that bond as we expand our portfolio of commodities and to develop our economic capacity”, the CS added.

Public expenditure surpassing revenue collection, accountants’ institute warns Public expenditure has for the last five years surpassed overall revenue collection, the latest survey from the Institute of Certified Accounts of Kenya (ICPAK) has revealed. The study, dubbed Kenya’s Revenue Analysis 2010-2015, indicates that the huge difference has pushed the country into heavy debt reaching as high as Sh2.9 trillion as per the end of 2015.

“The growth of tax revenue falls short of the ever ambitious growth in public expenditure forcing the National Treasury to resort to international financing debts,” stated the report.

The report suggests that the National Treasury should effectively monitor both expenditure and collection of revenues.

“To ensure a balanced budget and or to curtail deficit financing, it is important for the National Treasury to effectively monitor not only the expenditure side but also the collection of tax revenue on a regular basis,” recommended the report.

During the period under review, 95 per cent of revenue collected was used to pay the debt the country had sourced for development projects.

Speaking during the official launch of the study, CPA Rajish Shah from ICPAK noted that the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has not been achieving its set targets because of the way their money is being used.

“Billions of taxpayers’ money, especially at county level, is channeled to nonprofit projects including

KAPAP urges s poultry farme in new techno The Kenya Agricultural Productivity and Agribusiness Project (KAPAP) has encouraged smallholder farmers to adopt climate-smart technology in order to boost their revenue. The organization has acknowledged the fact that more than two thirds of Kenyans make a living from agriculture. Poultry is recognized for being among the “greenest” meats, using up less resources and emitting less greenhouse gases than larger livestock.

As such, the KAPAP, a Government of Kenya initiative supported by the World Bank, aims to improve agricultural productivity and the incomes of smallholders. This is achieved through supporting research and developing agriculture value chains.

“Agriculture means jobs in Kenya. After all, more than 75 per cent of Kenyans make a living in agriculture,” says Dina Umali-Deininger, Africa Practice Manager with the Agriculture Global Practice at the World Bank.

EA Data Centre launches Sh507 million green energy Kenya Power substation The East Africa Data Centre (EADC) has launched a new dedicated $5 million (Sh507 million) Kenya Power substation, as the organisaton moves to bank on renewable energy since it has emerged as a competitive advantage for energy-intensive businesses.

Data centres house critical records for clients, including cloud services and data back-ups, on servers that are heavy energy users. Consolidating data into a single premise is far more energyefficient than multiple individual onsite data servers, but data centres are still heavy energy users.

In 2015 alone, Kenya consumed 7.8 million megawatt hours (MwH) of electricity, of which 4 million MwH was consumed by large and medium commercial and industrial users.

Globally, data centres are now consuming some 3 per cent of the world’s total electricity supply, with their power consumption growing at about 4 per cent a year, driven by some of the world’s largest data centre users: Google, Facebook, Amazon and Apple, as well as Microsoft and IBM. This has caused mounting concern for policy makers, with Google’s electricity consumption alone almost doubling each year and now running at around 3.2 Gw. “As the growth and power hungry nature of data centres has moved into the public eye, there has been an increasing focus on data centres sourcing energy

“This has seen the world’s data centres required, increasingly, to demonstrate their green credentials to win international clients,” he added.

The challenge for data centres, globally, however, is that few options exist to generate enough renewable energy for

each centre individually.

However, with two-thirds of Kenya’s electricity now generated from renewable sources, the country has moved into a leading position in clean power, compared with other African nations and global energy mixes.

This has seen EADC move up the ‘green ladder’ as a green data centre, powered by a higher proportion of renewable energy than other data centres in

Africa, and making it more appealing for environmentally conscious multinationals.

“For EADC, the move to secure 97 per cent availability of Kenya Power’s unusually green electricity has now positioned the data centre as an exceptionally sustainable option, offering it a competitive advantage over data centres elsewhere in Africa,” said Mr Kwach. @enock_x254

Health Ministry refutes vaccine shortage claims

The Ministry of Health has refuted claims that Kenya is facing a vaccine shortage and that the Global Alliance for Vaccines Initiative (GAVI) has withdrawn its support for vaccine procurement in Kenya.

“The attention of the Ministry of Health (MOH) is drawn to media reports in the The Standard on Monday 24th October 2016 regarding GAVI vaccine support and vaccine shortage in Kenya,” Health Ministry Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleopa Mailu, said in a statement just hours ago.

The Ministry has been beneficiary of GAVI alliance support since 2001.

Kenya has received support worth over Sh40 billion mainly in form of vaccines, syringes and needles. Of this support, over Sh3.2 billion has been direct cash disbursement.

“The Ministry wish to clarify that GAVI has never withdrawn support for vaccine procurement for Kenya. The country continues to receive vaccine supply support from GAVI for the new vaccines for routine immunization namely Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV 10), Pentavalent vaccine (PENTA), Rota vaccine and Yellow Fever vaccine through co-financing arrangements,” reiterated Dr. Mailu.

GAVI meets about 85 per cent of these vaccines cost while Government of Kenya caters for the remaining 15 per cent. The CS noted that in the 2016/2017 financial year, Kenya’s co-financing requirement for these vaccines was Sh343 million.

“In the period, the Country applied for vaccine support worth Sh3.17 billion from GAVI that was approved and availed. Recently, the country received formal communication from GAVI confirming the 2017/2018 vaccine support worth Sh3.56 billion,” said Dr. Mailu.

This year, the country applied for a GAVI Health Systems Strengthening support worth Sh2 Billion that has since been approved by GAVI’s secretariat.

“I would like to assure the public that the MOH has continued to meet its co-financing obligation and any other fiduciary requirements with GAVI,” the CS said.

“I also wish to clarify that in 2007, Kenya applied for GAVI Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) support to a tune of $9,903,000. The application was approved and given for the period 2008-2012. The objective of the grant was to contribute to strengthening the capacity of health systems, deliver

better immunization outcomes, which included coverage and equity in a sustainable manner through addressing health system bottlenecks,” he added.

“It is the audit of these funds disbursed then, which revealed that there was lack of adequate documentation to support expenditure of Sh160 million. This was mainly for the Motorbikes, bicycle’s and cash sent to support the districts then.

As a result of this GAVI requested for a refund of the same. The ministry in conjunction with GAVI is working on modalities of refunding these monies.”

The Ministry has since assured the public that there is an adequate stock of vaccines to last the country for at least six months. This stock does not include yellow fever vaccines and Inactivated Polio Vaccines (IPV), which will last for up to four months.

More supplies of yellow fever and IPV are expected next month.

In the last two weeks, the Ministry has distributed three months’ worth of vaccines to all the sub-counties through the Regional Vaccine Depot.

“These should alley fears of any shortage of routine immunization vaccines,” said Dr. Mailu.

“I wish to retaliate that the Ministry of Health has ultra-modern modern

vaccine storage facilities which are used for benchmarking by other regional countries. The conditions of the vaccines in the national and regional depots are monitored through an online Stock Management Tool (SMT) which gives the status of the vaccine conditions in real time. This tool has been rolled out to 27 counties and we are in the process of rolling out the SMT to the remaining 20. All vaccine fridges in this country are equipped with temperature gadgets (fridge tag) to monitor and ensure optimum storage conditions,” he added.

Currently, MOH does not offer influenza vaccine on routine basis.

However, surveillance data indicates that influenza cases are on the rise within the region. As such, the Kenya National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (KENITAG) has advised MOH to consider piloting use of Influenza vaccine into our routine schedule. This is already in progress with support from Centre for Disease Control (CDC), “I wish to take this opportunity to remind all parents and care takers to take their children who are due for vaccination to receive this important service,” the CS said. @Dennis_x254

The malleability of the material when hot and the vibrant colours that the creations finally develop into secures glass arts place in the annals of history.

It is one of the most overlooked ways that glass can be incorporated into almost any facet of art in the home or even in a professional setting. Glass art can have a clean and sleek aesthetic. From big pieces to bottle blowing the art form is incredibly adaptable. A number of techniques can be adopted during the creation process which include blowing, kiln-casting, fusing, slumping, pate-de-verre, flame-working, hot-sculpting and coldworking. Cold-working involves shaping the glass while at room temperature while patede-verre entails mixing granules of glass with a fixative and applying the paste onto a mold.

An interesting new advancement in the glass art movement is the Knitted glass creation.

The art form according to The Creators Project ‘incorporates the techniques of lostwax casting, mold-making, kiln-casting, and, of course, knitting.’ The process involves melding together individual loops of glass to create a pattern that resembles a knit pattern. Millefiori which is an ancient decorative mode of glass art mostly used in representing flowers during the creation process. The artwork is created through the process of cutting up little pieces of glass and joining them to form a larger piece of art. 3D printing has also become a part of the glass art movement with many pieces being made more efficiently through the method.

Putting on makeup becomes a chore, going to the salon would probably be perceived more as a treat than the norm and the pounds will also pile on.

This phenomenon seems to be more pronounced in men than women, but not because women are more likely to let themselves go - that fact is a universal trend - but because women would be more likely to put more effort into their appearance in the beginning. And therefore an absence of this ‘effort’ would be more apparent.

If you want to dress up and hit the gym then do so but only to give yourself a little pep in your step. Your self-esteem and self-worth should not hinge on how you look first thing in the morning.

Wanga recalled to Stars squad TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2016

Tusker FC forward Allan Wanga is the standout call-up to the national team as boss Stanely Okumbi named his preliminary squad of local based players for the upcoming friendly matches against Mozambique and Liberia.

Harambee Stars are scheduled to play the two teams on November 12 and 15 respectively.

And Okumbi has given inaugural call-ups to a number of players including National Supper League’s Lawrence Juma who turns out for NSL leaders Nzoia Sugar.

Others are Mathare United’s David Mwangi, Posta duo of Simon Mbugua and Duncan Otieno, Palos’ Morven Otinya, Bandari’s Michael Msagha and Michael Misigo who turns out for Vihiga United.

Olympics Javelin silver medallist Julius Yego has confirmed he will resume training on Wednesday after being discharged from hospital following his frightful accident on Sunday night.

Wenger: Arsenal has best chance for title TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2016

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal have “a good chance” of winning the Premier League this season for the first time since they went unbeaten in 2004.

Speaking at the club’s annual general meeting Wenger, 67, said that the title will be won with between 82 and 86 points this year.

He said: “Today we are in a much more competitive position to fight for the title than five or six years ago.

“I believe we have a competitive team in a very competitive league.”

Arsenal are second after nine games, one of three teams on 20 points and only kept off top spot by goal difference.

Wenger says he thinks a further 62 points from their remaining 29 games could be enough for the title. Leicester won last season with 81.

Spurs Sissoko handed three match ban for elbowing opponent

Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko will be banned for three matches for elbowing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter, missing the north London derby with Arsenal. The France midfielder has accepted a violent conduct charge for the incident during Saturday’s goalless draw at the Vitality Stadium.

Sissoko, 27, apologised but was charged by the Football Association. Spurs will not appeal against the decision. His suspension will include today’s EFL Cup tie against Liverpool, plus league games against Leicester and Arsenal.

The FA said the incident was missed by match officials. “I need to say the elbow was in the face of Arter and it is clear,” Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said in agreement with the charge.

Speaking to Match of the Day after Saturday’s game, Arter said he was happy to accept Sissoko’s explanation that the contact was accidental.

He said: “I never want to see a player get into trouble if they didn’t mean to. Sissoko apologised.
