Demos called as pressure mounts over health scam

C

ivil society groups have called for a demonstration on Wednesday to protest and mount pressure for Health Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri to resign following revelations that Sh5 billion was lost at the ministry through irregular payments. The National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) wants Dr Muraguri to step down over the alleged misappropriation of Sh5 billion meant for various projects in the ministry including the free maternity programme. Muraguri has been on spot after he allegedly threatened a journalist who sought more information over the unraveling scandal. He has since apologised. The claims of the theft are based on an interim internal audit report which has unearthed what appears to be a scandal similar to that of the National Youth Service where the Integrated Financial Management System was infiltrated and payments made to dubious companies illegally. KNEC warns on fake exam papers Candidates scheduled to sit their Kenya Certificate for Primary Education from tomorrow have been warned not to rely on papers currently being circulated. Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) chairman George Magoha in a statement has told parents and pupils to ignore such papers and warned that those who will rely on them will be in for a rude shock.
