olice are on high alert following intelligence reports of planned terror attacks on main airports in Nairobi and Mombasa. An internal memo sent to all airport managers across the country warned that suicide bombers have been undergoing airborne suicide missions in Somalia for the planned attacks. Uhuru calls for increased funding to Amisom force

President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the international community to allocate adequate resources to the military operations in Somalia. He said there is need to increase land, air and maritime capabilities of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) forces to achieve their strategic objective of stabilising the country. According to Mr Kenyatta, Amisom currently lacks the requisite force multipliers to effectively deliver on its mandate. He regretted that the 12 military helicopters authorised by the UN Security council in 2012 are yet to be deployed. “Denying a mission like Amisom these capabilities is not only unacceptable, but untenable,” President Kenyatta said yesterday in Djibouti during the Heads of State and Government Summit of countries contributing troops and police to the mission. He expressed disappointment at the international community’s failure to live up to its obligation having also forgotten that the African Union is in Somali on behalf of the United Nations. “Whereas the continent is footing the bill of stabilising Somalia by blood and flesh, it is disheartening that the international community is even contemplating to reduce support to Amisom,” he said.
