eputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal has been named in leaked documents showing how hundreds of thousands of people, including world leaders, celebrities, athletes and criminals hid money using anonymous shell corporations across the world. 11 million documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca has listed the Supreme Court Judge alongside 72 current and former heads of states including the Icelandic Prime Minister, Sigmundur Gunnlaugson, who had an undeclared interest linked to his wife’s wealth and is now facing calls for his resignation. The files also reveal a suspected billion-dollar money laundering ring involving close associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rawal has been linked to a string of shell companies registered in the notorious Caribbean tax haven which is also popular drug dealers. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission now wants those who accompany graft suspects summoned to Integrity Center for grilling be barred from doing so. In a request to MPs, the commission wants the legislators to make it a criminal offence to accompany any suspect summoned for questioning in relation to investigations on corruption. EACC chief executive Halakhe Waqo last week told the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee that the commission always has difficult time in controlling the crowd that usually accompany graft suspects.
