New tough directives to restore sanity in Nairobi T
he Nairobi County administration has today unveiled tough directives to end disorder and confusion in the capital and help the city regain its lost glory. Overlapping matatus, boda boda operators who violate traffic regulations, bars that play loud music in residential
areas, hawkers and illegal dumpers of garbage now risk being arrested, Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke announced today when he unveiled the new taskforce formed to curb the increasing lawlessness in the city. Illegal structures, car washes, street families and all roadside eateries will be knock down according to Mr
Mueke. “Law and order must be restored in Nairobi in order to attract visitors and investors,” Mueke said. He lamented that garbage has recently submerged the city and hawkers have also uncontrollably emerged within the CBD. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

Tempers yesterday flared as a joint parliamentary committee grilled the nine Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners in a petition seeking their removal from office. The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee jointly with Constitutional Oversight Implementation Committee is looking into a petition filed by governance expert Barasa Nyukuri, seeking the ouster of IEBC commissioners from office on allegations of incompetence and mismanagement of the 2013. The IEBC commissioners defended their tenure in office saying it was of the most transparent, effective and competent in the region. Led by besieged chairperson Isaack Hassan, the nine commissioner dismissed the Nyukuri petition saying it was incompetent, misconceived, filed in bad faith and lack any merit in law.
