He said there has been an extortionist mentality

especially when the government unveils a flagship project driving cost of land up way above the normal market price. County bosses have also been accused of derailing the projects especially those that they deem to be devolved functions further either by seeking legal redress or inciting the locals. “There is an extortionist mentality driven by cartels who collaborate with the locals to charge the government highly way much above the market price leading to delays in implementing the projects,” Waita said.

Lawyer, client and taxi driver were strangled A post-mortem report into the deaths of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were brutally beaten and strangled to death according to postmortem results. Chief Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said the three were hit with blunt objects and strangulated. The results revealed that Mwenda, who is believed to have been the main target, was brutally tortured before he was killed. The pathologist found that lawyer Willie Kimani was hit on the back of his head repeatedly with a heavy blunt object until his skull fractured. The postmortem also revealed that Muiruri was strangled. The report says he had injuries to his head, his neck and chest. His skull was fractured and blood was also found on his chest cavity.
