Police boss is frustrating our work, cries IPOA

he Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has today pointed an accusing finger at the Inspector General of Police for obstructing its efforts to investigate rouge police officers. The authority has said IG Joseph Boinnet issued directives that it should not be allowed to carry out any investigations unless authorized by his office. While addressing a press conference in his office, IPOA chairman Macharia Njeru also claimed that his team has received threats and have been barred from accessing police premises or any form of data that they may require to conduct their investigations. “We have established that there are clear order from the Inspector General to obstruct the work of IPOA and teach us a lesson,” said Macharia.

Schools to be ranked separately in new law passed by Parliament Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i

National schools will be ranked separately from County and Sub-County ones according to the provisions of a new Bill passed by Parliament yesterday. MPs approved the Bill that
seeks tore-introduce ranking of schools which was abolished in 2014. It is only awaiting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s signature to become law.
The lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the amendment of the Kenya National Examination Council Act giving it a much broader clustering. They want the National schools ranked on their own since most of them enjoy massive resources that are not accessible to other institutions at the county levels. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
