It’s all battle for votes as IEBC sets official campaign date

he Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set the stage for a titanic battle as various political parties and candidates seek voters favour ahead of the general election in August. Official campaigns are set to begin in May after the electoral commission announced a slightly over twomonth period for vote hunting.
“The campaign period for purposes of the 8th August, 2017 general election, shall commence on Sunday 28th May, 2017 and ceases on 5th August, 2017,” IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said in a special gazette notice. The notice further indicated that all political parties have up to April 26, 2017 as the deadline to wind up their party primaries.
“Each political party wishing to participate in the elections must finalise its primaries on or before the 26th April 2017,” Chebukati stated. In addition, the electoral agency said the political parties and independent candidates for the presidential elections are expected to be done between Sunday May 28, 2017 and Monday 29, 2017.
