2 face death penalty for stripping woman Two matatu conductors accused of stripping and sexually molesting a female passenger have been denied bail. The suspects will remain in custody until the case is heard and determined. If convicted, the two face a death penalty after police charged them with robbery with violence. A Nairobi court has allowed the prosecutor to conceal the identity of the victim until she testifies. Police will also detain the bus in which the alleged assault was committed. Nicholas Mwangi and Meshack Mwangi are charged with robbing the women of property worth Sh41, 700 and sexually assaulting her on the nights on September 19 and 20 at Millenium Petrol Station within Githurai 44 in Nairobi.

2 face death penalty for stripping woman From Page 1 The two are accused of unlawfully manipulating their fingers in the woman’s genitalia. Lawyer Harrison Kinyajui opposed prosecution’s request not to identify the victim and longer detention of the vehicle. In an affidavit presented in court, police say the criminal act was committed on the woman inside matatu registration number KBT 903R operating under the Nazigi Sacco. The vehicle plies the Githurai route. The owner has recorded a police statement confirming that the two suspects were on duty on the day
the woman was attacked. “The offence which the accused persons are charged under is of a serious nature,” says Charles Musyimu in the affidavit. He said the Sexual Offences Act provides that the second count attracts a minimum of 10 years imprisonment, which may be increased to life in prison. The court is expected to make a ruling this afternoon on whether the identity of the victim should be revealed or if the detained vehicle can be released. The court was informed of increased cases of assault and stripping of women
which has caused great public apprehension. Magistrate Lucy Mbugua ruled that the charges the suspects are facing are of serious nature and the prosecution had adduced compelling reasons to deny them bond. “I have taken into consideration that the offences of robbery and sexual assault are grave and hereby proceed to deny the accused persons bond,” she said. The suspects have been remanded at Industrial Area Prison until February 5, 2015 when the case will be mentioned and a hearing date set.
Man abandons donkeys in Nairobi street drama There was drama in Nairobi this morning when a lorry driver abandoned 22 donkeys outside I&M building with graffiti “Tumechoka” (we are tired) inscribed on the animals. The driver said he had been hired by a man and asked to deliver the animals to the City Centre. On reaching the Kenyatta Avenue/ Muindi Mbingu Street junction, the man who had hired him allegedly jumped out of the lorry with the donkeys. Six of them were pushed out of the lorry and left to wander along the streets. More than 20 others were abandoned along Moi Avenue before police and County Government officials drove them away. Last month, a group of activists led a protest outside Harambee House as they demanded action on cases of insecurity.
37 Chinese suspects to remain in custody The 37 Chinese citizens who were arrested in Nairobi’s Runda estate have been charged with illegally providing telecommunication services. They denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Lucy Mbugua who ordered them to be detained in police custody pending investigations. The court was told on December 1 at Runda estate, the suspects were found providing telecommunication services without a licence from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK). Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu said the offences the suspects face are “grave” and there is a likelihood of more counts being added to the charge sheet. The suspects were charged in the wake of revelations by Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed that the suspects entered the country on one-month tourist visas but had spent one year.

Airtel inks e-parking deal with Jambo Pay Airtel Money customers in Nairobi can now pay their parking fees using their mobile devices. This comes after the company entered a partnership with Jambo Pay and the Nairobi County government. Airtel Kenya CEO, Adil El Yousseffi said the partnership has unveiled a more convenient method of paying parking fees for its customers. “We want to create convenience for our customers in all spheres and especially in making payments, this is the

Corner House is a V-shaped tower block located at the junction of Mama Ngina Street and Kimathi Street. The 18-floor building consists of a number of office spaces and three levels of basement parking, four podium floors that house shops, a lounge, which features a dining room, a kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, cloakroom and balcony. Jambo Pay CEO, Danson Muchemi said Nairobi citizens will have flexibility while making parking payments in terms of choosing their preferred service provider. Nairobi City County Executive for ICT and e-Government Anne Lokidor said the partnership with Airtel and Jambo Pay will enable them tap into and utilize the many growth
opportunities that the new system has to offer. “Through this new partnership with Airtel and Jambo Pay, Nairobi City County government is demonstrating its commitment to promoting ease of conducting business in the City of Nairobi and is part of our commitment to eradicate bottlenecks to investment and innovation,” said Lokidor. The Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is planning to construct two geothermal power plants with capacity to generate 210 megawatts (MW) of electricity. As the country eyes plans to expand its generation capacity from its current 1,664 MW to by 5,000 MW by 2017, KenGen’s move hopes to lower tariffs for consumers while cutting the cost of doing business. Reuters reports that Kenya is the first African country to tap into geothermal power. It has the potential to produce 7,000 MW, enough to power many parts of the country
than ever before. KenGen officials said the two plants will be built in the steam-filled Olkaria field. The company said it was in talks with development institutions to borrow money for the first phase of the construction. KenGen officials say that the use of cheaper geothermal power will lead to less reliance on thermal power, which is at the mercy of everchanging international prices. In Kenya for instance, an extra fuel charge is added to normal power rates depending on the amount of diesel generation used as well as the cost of global fuel.

This will ensure that your children remain safe hands whenever you are away. And in case of any problem, the caregiver will not hesitate to step in and help in addition to keeping you in the know. echnology has made many things possible. With just a mobile phone and an internet connection, one can talk to someone who is continents away. Sexting is the sending of sexually explicit messages, videos, emails and voice messages using mobile phones and devices. The messages involve sending of nude and semi-nude photos and videos. Sexting is mostly used by couples to spice up their relationships. Actually, a study in 2013 found that sexting improves relationship and sexual satisfaction in partnerships! But what happens when sexting goes wrong? Case in point, a young accountant was bored in the office one day and decided to send a suggestive text to his girlfriend. He sent the text but only realized too late that he was sending it to his boss, a lady who was in the next room. The problem with texts is that, you cannot stop or cancel it when you have hit the send button. His boss did not reply but the young accountant was too rattled so he opted quit his job rather than face the awkward moment with his boss! Secondly, with new platforms, photos sent to

a partner in confidence are easier to share with others. You may have trusted someone with your photos but little did you know that they would share it online once you broke up. Ugandan socialite and singer Desire Luzinda is now facing 10 years in jail ‘for exposing her nudity online’ after a jilted lover posted nude photos she had sent him. Never matter that someone violated her privacy and showed her most intimate photos to the world, she is now guilty of
a crime she did not commit just because someone leaked her photos. The humiliation that comes with knowing that thousands of people in the world have seen your intimate photos- possibly family, friends, neighbors and workmates- is huge. One may not be able to recover from the aftermath. You would be constantly exposed to cyber bullying with people saying nasty things about you. One may also lose their job because their employer does not want to be associated with
someone’s whose body parts are floating on the internet for all and sundry to see. The photos and videos exchanged while sexting may be used as blackmail. Sexting can be great if you trust who you are doing it with. But the question is, how sure are you they will not leak anything online once you part ways? It is great when it lasts but be careful what you share, things may take a different turn once the relationship ends.

KU sTUdenTs wanT beTTer aCCoMModaTion A section of Kenyatta University students want the institution’s administration to flush out bedbugs in their hostels instead of infrastructural development. They expressed displeasure in the KU Campanile, whichwas unveiled earlier this week saying they want better accommodation facilities, not showing off expensive infrastructure, which are not supporting academic excellence. Allan Omollo said the postmodern library the university brags about does not have enough reading material. He said: “They are busy building landmarks yet bedbugs are menace in the hostels. Postmodern library haina books.” Benard Ngetich said accommodation is a disaster and poor services at the finance offices is another issue. He said the services must be improved before they can take pride in the unveiled tower to show their mighty. However, a few others are proud of the new academic bell tower, which may be the tallest academic logo in the country. They said it will motivate them to eclipse the University of Nairobi, which has perennially been considered an academic icon.

But in the end it is all worth it. XA: What challenges have you faced? LN: There are many challenges in this industry for example lack of formal structures that offer accreditation, standardization of working conditions and legal representation. XA: Any advice to people who want to take up your line of work? LN: The Film industry is not for the faint hearted. One has to be passionate about what they do as it will come in handy for those long days when you really need that extra burst of energy. One also has to have a thick skin to take in criticism. Also, develop your skills and talents before you make it big.

Visual effects compositing involves creating computer generated visual effects and incorporating them in live action video. It also involves a lot of graphic design and animation. XA: What is your salary? LN: I earn an average of Sh60, 000 month. But for commissioned work, I get paid Sh8, 000 to Sh12, 000 a day. XA: What qualifications or skills does one need for our job? LN: The most important ‘qualification’ for this job is creativity and passion. School helps sharpen skills , but it does not make up for creativity. XA: Does your job affect your social life? CLOSET RAID ON
Whose fashion style do you admire locally and internationally? Internationally, I admire Pharrell Williams- his style is so effortless and makes sure he stands out in every occasion. Locally, I do not really pay attention on how anyone dresses. What is your best fashion accessory? Sounds cliché and a bit off but I would say Confidence. LOL Who is your favourite fashion designer internationally and locally?
I really do not have a favourite designer, now that I think of it. Although, I like African accessories so I can be spotted at Maasai Market once in a while. Internationally, I am not too keen on the trends, for me it is not about the labels. What is the one fashion trend that you have sworn never to follow? I have more than one; Mohawks, Supras and The Versace craze. I like doing my own thing.
What is your guilty pleasure (fashion wise)? Shoes. I own 25 pairs (this is a lot for a dude) and I cannot stop myself from buying more.

Lovely dreams could spark your imagination and get your artistic abilities going. You could learn a lot about yourself and whatever has been limiting you. Write down whatever comes your way so you can work with it later, but don’t try to make sense of it today.
A new friend could arrive today, Aquarius. You’re probably going to like this person very much. He or she probably shares many of your interests. You could become close friends. The downside is that you aren’t likely to see anyone as they really are, only an idealized picture.
pisces Feb 19 - Mar 20
If you’ve been thinking about a job change or even a new career, a chance encounter could provide the opportunity. However, Pisces, remember, “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Get the facts as clearly as you can.
aries Mar 21 - apr 19
Knowledge is important to you, and you can be insatiably curious. This is likely to be one of those days, Aries. A friend or lover could bring some new information that sparks your curiosity, perhaps something related to astrology or the occult. You will want to pursue it.
taurus apr 20 - May 20
The desire to beautify your home could hit you full force today, Taurus. Perhaps you’re expecting visitors or house guests and want to make a good impression. You could prowl through antique stores looking for knickknacks. You might set your sights on doing something a bit more ambitious than you originally planned.
geMini May 21 - Jun 21
You might have high hopes for a friendship with this person. He or she may seem especially congenial and share a lot of your interests, and this could seem almost too perfect. However, you’re in just the mood to idealize new relationships, so don’t get too excited until you get to know this person better.
You could be feeling especially sociable today. Maybe there’s a party of some kind in your neighborhood. You could hear some good news, and there is probably some truth to it, but take everything you hear through the grapevine with a grain of salt. Not everything you hear is based on fact.
If you’re currently involved, you will probably receive a lot of attention from your mate. If not, expect to receive admiring glances from those around you, including strangers! You could meet a potential date, but take care to get to know this person before getting too excited.

libra sep 23 - oct 22
An attractive neighbor with whom you seem to share a bond could become a friend. A group you’re affiliated with could be expressing highly idealized goals and purposes. These goals are likely to be admirable, Libra, but they may not be all that realistic. Bear that in mind before committing to any course of action.

areas, Muslim clerics and other leaders condemn the Government. They have also condemned extrajudicial killings of provocative preachers, which have mostly occurred at the Coast, by accusing the Government of being behind the killings.
The leaders and clerics must rise and reproach acts of terrorism that have set Kenya on fire in the recent past. They are using Islam to cause internal conflict. Docile and seemingly tolerant Christians may at one point say enough is enough. The enemy will
win the war because Christians and Muslims will lose Kenya to religious apartheid. Though the freedom of worship is constitutionally given, it should not deteriorate to religious malice for the benefit of propagandists who have nothing to lose.

Union chief says rugby board friction fuelling 7’s poor results Kenya Rugby Union has admitted that divisions within the KRU Board were the key cause of Kenya’s 7’s poor performance. Chairman Mwangi Muthee says Paul Treu is a great coach and urged Kenyans to support him and the squad. Muthee said the squad management will be streamlined but admitted the task is a challenge to the union. He said more two and a half years ago, former England coach Mike Friday took charge of the Kenya Sevens
and led the team to the third overall position at the HSBC Sevens World Rugby Series. But despite the achievement, some members of KRU board kept calling for his sacking. “It took some jostling before we could retain (Friday) Mike to at least lead the team to the Sevens Rugby World Cup in Moscow, where he had a fantastic fourth place finish.” Muthee said some quarters were assuming Kenya Sevens team would perform well despite some challenges. He said: “We are not going to let the disfranchising
of established players nor make aspiring young players hopeless. We are going to open up excellent opportunities to those committed to the squad (Tier 1) so that they can rely on their performance to earn a decent living as long as they are in the squad.” “The performance-based contracts should not include salary cuts. There will be better remuneration, better insurance and medical cover. You’ve got to put this in place so that you can demand more from players,” Muthee said.

Swiss side’s cheeky jibe at their English casualties
Swiss champions FC Basel celebrated their Champions’ League group-stage progression at Liverpool by taking a cheeky swipe at a host of recent English victims. The Swiss Super League outfit drew 1-1 at Anfield to take four points from Liverpool in Group B. They beat Chelsea twice in last season’s competition and dumped Tottenham out of
the 2012-13 Europa League. The hat-trick of successes over three of England’s biggest club’s prompted a witty Instagram post containing cartoon caricatures of a player from each of the London clubs carrying away a dizzied Liverpool counterpart. The sketched characters console the Liverpool player with the Anfield club’s slogan “You’ll Never
Walk Alone.” The witty jibe, however, met some prickled responses on social media. After enjoying another famous success on English soil, Basel followed up with an image of players celebrating wildly in the Anfield away dressing room. The 17-time Swiss champions last made the knockout stages in 2012 but failed to escape the group stages last year.

Why annual CECAFA tourney will not take place Lack of securing a host nation after Ethiopia pulled out will see the annual regional tournament Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup forgone this year. Though it has not been made official, sources from the secretariat have confirmed that time has already ran out and therefore the tournament can’t not go on as planned. “It is becoming an impossibility and with festive period already creeping in, it is no longer feasible to have the event this calendar year,” said the source. “The Africa Cup of Nations coming
up in January also complicates the equation because the two events cannot be held at the same time. “So the earliest this can be held is after AFCON 2015 but again getting the host remains a huge task. If it was within their control, they would hold it yesterday but their hands are tied.” Recent reports have suggested that the event’s format is becoming unpopular, with a section of federation bosses in the region mooting a league-like system where teams play home and away throughout the year with final being staged at different locations.

Khan focused on Alexander bout
NEW DEAL: Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard serves to Serbia’s Anna Ivanovic during their singles match at the WTA tennis finals in Singapore,Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014.
Amir Khan insists his dream fight against Floyd Mayweather is not on his mind ahead of Saturday’s bout against Devon Alexander in Las Vegas. The winner of the welterweight showdown could fight unbeaten fiveweight world champion Mayweather next year. However, Khan has been promised a fight against Mayweather before, only to be disappointed. “Winning this next fight could lead to a massive fight but I’m not looking past Alexander,” said Khan.
“I’ve made that mistake before with fights I should have gone in and won. I’m 28, still learning and still hungry. I just have to pace myself and take my time.” Khan has endured a frustrating year, with American superstar Mayweather choosing to fight Argentine Marcos Maidana twice instead and a scheduled fight against Alexander, who was then a world champion, falling through. And Khan, who returned from a 13-month lay-off with a points win over veteran American Luis Collazo on
his welterweight debut in May, is still keen to make the Mayweather fight happen. Every fighter in the welterweight division wants that big fight against Floyd and as a hungry fighter you want to fight and beat the best,” said Khan, a former world champion at lightwelterweight. “Some styles cause problems for Floyd and some styles are made for him. You never want to leave boxing thinking what would have happened if I’d fought someone like Floyd.”
WTA sets up half-billion dollar, 10-year media rights deal The Women’s Tennis Association has signed a new record media rights contract that it says will be worth more than Sh44.63 billion over 10 years. The deal with Perform runs from 2017 to 2026 with plans to produce every singles match, which is around 2,000 fixtures, for the first time. Under the existing contract with Perform, only around a third of singles matches are broadcast.
WTA chair Stacey Allastar called the new deal “a gamechanger”. She added the deal will “give fans more access to the players they want to watch”. The WTA and Perform are forming WTA Media, which will produce all main-draw matches in singles, along with the semi-finals and finals in doubles at every tour event. Allaster said that the new deal guarantees annual TV rights fees of shs2.81billion
from Perform, which is nearly double the current agreement ofshs1.45billion per year that runs 20132016. The deal also includes what Allaster said was “eight figures”’ a year in “production investment”. She added: “This comes at a time when we look at the horizon and we will have a changing of the guard of our current top stars, which shows the value and depth of our rising stars.”

Rangers sign utility players ahead of 2015 season Posta Rangers have signed Geoffrey Kataka and Charles Odette in time for the 2015 Kenyan Premier League season. Midfielder Kataka joins Rangers, who won promotion to top flight after leading Zone ‘A’ of National Super League, from Sony Sugar. Other notable names include John Odhiambo (KCB), Nicholas Ayega (Nairobi Stima), Georson Likonoh
(Chemelil), Shaban Odhoji (Top Fry), Patrick Matasi (pictured), Bernard Mang’oli (AFC), David Kinga’tua (Thika) and Steve Odhiambo from a second division side in South Africa. The players were unveiled on Wednesday. New Rangers coach John Kamau said he is ready for the new challenge. Kamau, who joined from Thika United said: “I know the shoes in which I am
getting into are big because Rangers is a results-oriented side. They won their Zone ‘A’ National Super League 10 points clear, and they were finalists in GOTv Shield. “All these demonstrate their capabilities and obviously expectations are high. I will, however, strive to deliver because I am also yearning to win a championship as coach,” he said.
Platini wants fresh candidate to challenge Blatter in Fifa poll Uefa chief Michel Platini (pictured) hopes a third candidate will challenge Sepp Blatter and Jerome Champagne in next year’s Fifa election. Blatter is the president of world football’s governing body and had said he would quit in 2015 before changing his mind to seek re-election. Asked who he would back for the election, Platini said: “Neither. I hope others will run.
“Another European candidate would have very little chance of winning.” Platini reiterated that he would not support Blatter. Fifa’s image has been tarnished recently over corruption allegations revolving around the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding process. Russia and Qatar won the rights to host the tournaments. “The image of Fifa is very, very bad so that’s why I think
it would be good he (Blatter) stops, but I don’t think he wants to,” said Platini.
Liverpool squad below par, Rodgers confesses Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his team has not been good enough after their Champions League exit. The Reds dropped into the Europa League after drawing 1-1 with Basel at Anfield in a match they needed to win to progress. “We have to be better in our performance level,” said Rodgers.
“We haven’t been good enough over the course of qualification. There is disappointment, but now we have to fight for the rest of the season.” Rodgers, whose side won only one of their six group games, said: “We had enough games to try and get enough points but the key one was away to Basel, where we were disappointing and lost.
“If you deserve to go through you get the points. “We really wanted to qualify but we weren’t good enough. “But you have to remember where we have come from. We have come a long way in a short time.” Liverpool are ninth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s match at Man United.
