NEON DIY NECKLACE TREE

By Jacquelyn Clark of Lark & Linen

What You’ll Need:

+ a stick or thin piece of driftwood (should be relatively straight and thick enough to screw in eye hooks) + embroidery thread in colours of your choosing (yes, the stuff you surely made friendship bracelets out of as a child!) + 2 picture hangers and their nails + 3 (or more) eye hooks + a glue gun

THE RESULT

Steps:

1. 2. 3.

Determine which side of the stick will be placed against the wall, and which side will be visible from the front. Add a small dab of hot glue to the back side of the stick and affix one end of the thread to it. Allow the glue to dry completely before completing the next step.

Wrap the thread tightly around the stick. For best results, ensure that there are no gaps between each bit of thread.

Once you’ve covered the stick to your liking, add another small dollop of glue to the back side and affix the end of the thread to it. Trim any excess bits as necessary.

4.

Repeat steps one through three with the remaining thread colours at random to achieve your desired look. For best results, vary the width in which you wrap each co lour, and don’t be afraid to put one colour against the next.

Affix the picture hangers to the back side of the stick.

Gently screw the eye hooks into the un derside of the stick. Ensure to space them at equal distances apart, and do not push too hard (you don’t want to split the stick!)

THE INSPIRATION: “An ever-evolving process which began in early childhood when, as a very little girl, I spent countless hours carefully leafing through a German pattern magazine called “Burda”. Over time, I moved on to glossies such as The Vogue and InStyle. These days I also draw my inspiration from fashion and street style blogs and Pinterest.”

an outfit; doing my make up; choosing a suitable location for the photo shoot; taking, selecting and editing photos; and finally writing thoughtful articles. The latter requires me to keep up with the issues and stay on top of the news cycle. Since I am gregarious and light spirited by nature, I want my blog to reflect that. This is why some of my articles have a “lighter” tone speaking purely of fashion or my personal life.” Visit Fashionable in Montreal online at www.fashionable-in-mtl.blogspot.com
