Early in 2021, the restoration of the Ginaf F222 truck began. It has started its life as a fast assistance truck for Jan de Rooy in the 1988 Paris to Dakar. Known as ‘Brum’, the truck assisted de Rooy, then was used by Hans Bekx and in its next life, became a catering truck for Ginaf Rally Service. ‘Brum’ is legendary amongst Dakar truck enthusiasts and has been completely disassembled, overhauled, rebuilt and returned as far as possible to its original state and competed in the 2022 edition of the Dakar Classic. With original parts being difficult to find, the rebuild was quite a feat. Under the leadership of Gerard van Veenendaal, the Ginaf is now almost like new, and the crew has every confidence that it will perform well in fact, the team goal is to win the Dakar Classic trucks! Whether they win or not, driver Jack Brouwers, navigator Eugene Kluitman and mechanic Gerard van Veenendaal will experience an extraordinary adventure and build their friendship amongst the stunning landscapes of Saudi Arabia.
