Let’s Start A lot of people confuses Taiwan food with Chinese food and simply don’t know the difference. This can be partly because Taiwan’s has its roots traced back to China soil. However, just like any other different countries, there are remarkable differences between Taiwan cuisines and china. The Influences

Many of the national dishes we have today are all a product of colonialism, hegemony, and global trade. No one is an island and this holds true when it comes to cuisine. What we call Taiwanese food today is an assemblage. The different ethical flavour becomes one to form the sweet, renowned Taiwanese meal. Hakka people have a hand in Taiwanese cuisine and many of the flavours are associated with Taiwan. Moreover, Fujian province is just across Taiwan and its influence on its cuisine come as no surprise. “The influencers are not complete without mentioning Japanese colonialism which also left a mark in the Taiwan cuisines,� explained Xu Zheng.


Food Types Another remarkable difference is that Taiwan cuisines are mainly based on food found in Taiwan with the commonest being seafood, thanks to the island. However Chinese has eight different types of cuisines which fall under one umbrella: Chinese cuisine. This includes Sichuan cuisine, Shandong cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Fujian cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine, Zhejiang cuisine, Hunan cuisine, and Anhui cuisine.


Staples Taiwanese consume a lot of seafood, especially oysters (fried oysters, oyster pancake, oyster vermicelli) which has been incorporated in a lot of their dishes. There are also different broths that comes in all its different bold flavors wonders. Stinky tofu and oyster omelets are part of the Chinese adopted food that has been adapted and altered to Taiwanese taste. Plus, bean curd. Sprouts, seaweed, salted peanuts are some of the snacks that makes up Taiwanese cuisine. Although some elders still aren’t keen on eating beef, Taiwanese tend to adore beef noodle soup. In fact, they have a festival celebrated in its name every year to determine the best bowl.


 Bubble tea and Baobing was invented by Taiwan One of the world’s favourite drink, bubble tea which is also called pearl tea hailed from Taiwan. A tea that includes some milk, sugar, shaved ice, which is not complete without the chewy tapioca balls. This tea is not only invading the Taiwan drink stalls, but it has also found its way to other countries. Moreover, the credit also goes to Taiwanese for inventing bao bing, a perfect dessert, a sweet treat of shaved ice with other toppings.
