Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition 2011-12 The Step Up Loudoun Planning Committee is pleased to invite you to Step Up Loudoun. Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition 2011-12: "A Call to Action" Dominion High School – Sterling, Virginia Preliminary Round, Thursday, April 12, 2012, 6 pm – 9 pm Final Round, Final Round, April 19, 2012, 6 pm - 9 pm What is Step Up? Last fall, the Step Up Loudoun Planning Committee issued a “call to action” to Loudoun middle and high school students. Teens were challenged to create and implement a solution to an issue faced by Loudoun youth. The topics selected are wide-ranging, from bullying to nutrition to gang violence. The action plans are just as varied. Students were told they could focus on any topic and use any medium to address it. Entries include blogs, rallies, information campaigns, websites and more. The top three Step Up entries will receive cash prizes provided via Loudoun Youth, Inc. . The goal of this competition is to provide participants the opportunity to recognize, appreciate, and leverage the assets of Loudoun County to make positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others. The outcome will be a tangible experience that will set apart the participants as action-oriented, can-do young adults with the self-motivation and determination to make a difference in their community. Adults will gain a unique perspective into how youth see the county and how they think we can constructively face challenges.

What is the Step Up Schedule? Step Up is divided into two rounds. The preliminary round is April 12th from 6-9 pm. Students will have displays detailing their issue, their solution and its implementation. These exhibits will be set up similar to a science fair and you are invited to browse through the displays and talk with the teens about their projects. The final round is April 19th from 6-9 pm. The top ten entries from the preliminary round will advance to the final round of competition. The finalists will return to Dominion High School April 19 th to present their projects on stage before a panel of judges and the other Step Up participants. You are invited to attend either or both rounds of competition.
