FÖRUM REYKJAVÍK!
Welcome to Iceland, we’re so glad you’re here! Please find some tips and words of warning to begin your journey through our capital city.
1
Reykjavik is heated with geothermal energy courtesy of volcanic activity along the Mid-Atlantic ridge.
CAUTION: Watch out for things that bubble up or erupt, including emotions and honesty.

REYKJAVÍK
Iceland is located near the North Pole, which accounts for the long hours of darkness in the winter; the sunrise can be as late as 11AM and sunset as early as 4PM.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: These dark nights are a great time to see the Aurora Borealis, if you are lucky enough to get clear skies.
3
Iceland is a place of vivid and robust folk legends that center on the Huldufólk, translated as Hidden People or elves. They’re caretakers of the land and live peacefully alongside humans, unseen.
BE PATIENT: The Huldufólk only reveal themselves to you in due time.
4
Ravens are commonly spotted in both rural and urban Iceland. They’re said to have been helpful when humans first settled the country, but contemporary feelings on the birds are mixed; they’re simultaneously seen as omnivorous pests and oracular intellectuals.
CAUTION: Ravens mate for life.
5
LGBTQ+ rights are on the rise—in June a third gender marker, X, was approved with a unanimous vote by Parliament.
QUEER FRIENDLY? Reykjavik’s gay bar scene is primarily
OCTOBER 3 AT 8PM OCTOBER 4 AT 3:30PM & 8PM OCTOBER 5 AT 4PM
marketed to tourists; local queer culture for the most part remains underground.
We hope you enjoy your stay!
