One year follows another and September of ten serves to foreshadow, in every field, what the coming year will be like. Of course there are the 2013 collections, but 2014 is the year designers are looking toward after a sluggish, morose year, regardless of what anyone says. It's a time to contemplate the new creations on display at the upcoming Maison & Objet show (which, each year, never fails to make Decoration and Design news), we detect a return to simplicity, with flashy colors taking a back seat in favor of light, pastel tones. White, gray, motherof-pearl, blue, and green, are regaining their status, it's about time, perhaps. It is a simplicity that seems to go perfectly with recession years, probably pure speculation. So get ready for classic with, innovation mandatory, a (traditional) touch of modernity. In this new issue, which we have intended to be graphically wonderful and which should dress you for winter, you will find fireplaces to warm your body... the whole house, majestic rooms, put together with a taste for a rare insolence that leads us, for a change, to congratulate the designer. Nothing to say to that, it makes you dream and want to invest. And then, since it has been a long time since the design press has examined what is going on between the lines, we have dedicated an entire article to those sculptures walk on without ever lingering too long, stairways. Pool shelters and indoor spas complete the picture with new items that are beautiful and sophisticated as always, not to mention Philippe Starck in Miami and our own in Mane en Provence. It's an issue that has gained weight, but still no wrinkles. Interior architect Kamini Ezralow, founder of Ezralow Design, released the first eight pieces from Bronze, her first furniture collection, at the International Furniture Show last year in Milan. At the April show, she exhibited the full collection, releasing eight new pieces to enthusiastic acclaim. The full collection went on display starting July 18 in an exhibition at the WOOD WORK Showroom in Monaco. For the Bronze collection, Kamini Ezralow drew her inspiration not only from the material used as a finish or details on each piece, but also from what this noble material represents: longevity, classicism, tactility, and elegance. Kamini Ezralow launched her first furniture collection, Bronze, in collaboration with the Italian familyowned company, Orsi. Bronze is an homage to traditional Italian art and this expresses contemporary luxury. Orsi is located in the Cabiate region of Italy, a region synonymous with skilled craftsmanship. It is home to metallurgists, scrapmetal merchants, cabinetmakers, wood carvers, bronze smiths, lacquer workers, and specialist upholsterers. Kamini Ezralow consciously sought to create a collection that brings together the talents passed down from generation to generation with the attention for design, believing it is essential to pay homage to art through the idea of luxury today. Charles Trevelyan was born in Sydney in 1974. After training as a materials engineer and in 3D Design, he moved to London, where he has lived since the 2000s. He designs furniture, and objects inspired by organic growth and by a few major figures from modern sculpture. He also thinks that the functional side is a positive contribution to his vision of the art object. His works are based on a subtle balance between the clean graphic momentum and a dreamlike imagination. He looks for original solutions in order to create objects that inhabit a home with a unique presence.

In 2012, he founded "De VECCHIS Créations", which enabled him to produce "La perforée", a table lamp distributed by AG PRODUCTS. This lamp can be seen at the 2012-2013 Maison & Objet show, and 19 copies were sold in 2012. Other creations are in the works for this producer. He is currently working on a project that was first sketched out in 2011. For this object, he has already managed to attract a French manufacturer and producer.

Return to Simplicity Whatever the application, design and decoration reflect an era above all else. It's a snapshot of society at any given moment. Starting in 1977, the euphoria of the early 70s, in terms of morals as well as creativity, gave way to a pragmatic simplicity, embodied in France by a new President, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, and his cabinet. In all areas of life, it can be said that starting in 1977, the bubbling energies of the early 70s began to be channeled.
Oil crises, a bankrupt world economy, and the end of the anti-establishment era sounded the return to calm and simplicity of forms. On the agenda for the new French government: laws on social security, health-

care, and transportation. With them, the time had come for a return to the sound value of the home and comfort became a priority. Carpet, curtains, and wallpaper dominated, providing enveloping comfort that served as protection from the harsh world outside. It revealed a desire on the consumer's part to appropriate distinctive features, a style. Practical furniture made its way into interiors, made of light pine and particle board, combined with colorful textiles, which fit the era perfectly. Vinyl and new flooring materials brought about more original possibilities.

Style and lifestyle On the list of events that changed the everyday lives of the French, the RER, Paris' suburban rail network, the Concorde, the VW Beetle, the Renault 4... The consequence of scientific and political advances, these technical and societal innovations imposed a "high-tech" lifestyle as well as a more neutral decorative atmosphere on France. Internationally, furniture became mass produced with a simple look (kit furniture) spread by the opening of large stores (like Habitat) and by mail order. Starting in 1977, with skyrocketing oil prices and the emergence of environmentalist movements, people turned to better values like wood, with rustic furniture taking the place of honor. Living in, is Living On January 31, 1977, Paris' Georges Pompidou national arts and culture center was opened by ValĂŠry Giscard d'Estaing, in the presence of Prime Minister Raymond Barre, Mrs. Claude Pompidou and many other personalities. This center is one of the most famous French creations, but above all it is representative of two ideologies. It was here that art and
design, integrated in the life of the city resident, met up with the "high tech" movement to take on an esthetic dimension. Thanks to "Beaubourg," the locals' name for the Pompidou center, the name of the movement then began to evoke a style: a technological style materialized by the ostensible arrangement of pipes, nuts, and bolts, meant to glorify the "guts" of architecture. The center's appearance was highly controversial. But the center and its controversial architecture were a big public success. Renzo Piano, one of the project's 3 architects declared that he "had wanted to tear down the image of a cultural building that made people scared. It's the dream of an extraordinarily free relationship between art and people, where you breathe in the city at the same time." In 1977 decorators and designers proposed their innovative vision: new colors, a new approach to materials: brushed steel, stainless, mirror. The designer considers ergonomics, working conditions, rational use of space, multiple functions of furniture.The designer invents a new language and an approach to the real from sociological decoding. Art invites itself and collaborates in everyday life. The end of the 1970s was marked by this cross-disciplinarity, and design became a new method of communication.

Today, Ghizlane LAZRAK is a contemporary artist who doesn't hide her attraction to expressionism and the abstract.Over the course of exhibitions and tests, the visual artist tries to create in her canvases a fascinating world where color is king. "I have a fondness for contemporary painting, expressionist or abstract. As I paint, my paintings make the decision for themselves. This unconscious communication with the canvas, shapes and colors develops an extraordinary energy in me that I try to transmit through my paintings," she explained. And it's an explosion of colors and feelings that the viewer admires in each one of Ghizlane's works. They are daring and each of them harmoniously combine colors and texture.

Now residing in New York, he has had shows at the Capsule Gallery, the Corridor Gallery, in New York and at the Villa Noailles, in Hyères, France. In addition to his personal work, he conducts editorial shoots for magazines like Brutus, Esquire, GQ, The Telegraph, Wallpaper* and Le Monde M. They took the chance... The grandfather clock revisited… Sylvain Delapré, a clockmaker specializing in mechanism repair, designs and manufactures contemporary clocks and grandfather clocks, each one unique, from new or existing mechanisms (salvaged from a family clock, for example). In the late 19th, century, the grandfather clock, originating in the Franche Comté region, made its appearance in homes and was a great success. Today, its tall shape and rustic style are no longer in line with current decoration trends, but the memories it evokes gives it a sentimental value. Originally, Sylvain Delapré repaired mechanisms. Then, from mechanisms he moved on to creation, in order to give new home interiors clocks and grandfather clocks that have been updated to current tastes and to maintain a part of French heritage and culture. For example, in his latest creation, he built a totally new face for an existing grandfather clock mechanism. The hands were cut by laser, the case made from glass, like a display box, giving life to the mechanism with its transparency. The lower part is in welded tube, with patina, making the clock dominate the living room. www.heure-creation.fr
