WORKCAMP: le cose da sapere
◉ COS’È? Il campo internazionale di volontariato (in inglese «workcamp», in russo «волонтёрский лагерь») è una forma di volontariato a breve termine, della durata di 2-3 settimane, rivolto a tutti (18+), senza bisogno di qualifiche particolari. Il campo di volontariato è basato sul lavoro concreto svolto da un gruppo di volontari da tutto il mondo per supportare il progetto locale che può essere di diverse tematiche: ambientale, sociale, culturale, lavoro manuale e di ristrutturazione, animazione con i bambini ecc. Il vitto e l'alloggio durante il progetto sono garantiti dall'associazione di accoglienza mentre i costi di viaggio, visto e assicurazione sono al carico del volontario. Prima della partenza si riceve un foglio di viaggio chiamato infosheet con tutte le informazioni utili su come arrivare, il punto di incontro con gli altri volontari, contatti di riferimento e di emergenza, cosa portare con se, etc. La lingua ufficiale in tutti i progetti è l’inglese ma naturalmente i progetti in Russia e le exrepubbliche sovietiche offrono la possibilità di imparare/praticare/migliorare la lingua russa e scoprire il contesto culturale specifico.

SFERA-04 GREEN MOSCOW Dates: 08/07/13 - 24/07/13 Type of work: ENVI The project is organized by the botanical garden of the Moscow State University (MSU). This University is the largest University in Russia and one of the oldest. It was founded in 1755 by Mikhail Lomonosov, whose name was later added to the name of the institution in his honor. The botanic garden of MSU was founded at 1706. Then it was just a chemist’s garden. Medicinal herbs were grown there. In 1805 it was bought by MSU and since the middle of the 19th century exotic plants started to be grown in the garden. Classes for the students have been conducted since the end of 19th century in the botanic garden. During its lifetime a few thousands sorts of the plants were grown in the garden. WORK: The main task of the work includes the rearrangement of two parts of the garden’s territory. The volunteers will have to take care of the garden and flower-beds, to cut bushes, take away rubbish and to dig up ground. Also they will plant, and gather berries and fruits. One of the possible activities of the volunteers is helping to lead excursions in the garden. The new site of the Botanical Garden, designed for people with disabilities. The volunteers are expected to work six hours per day. And be ready for manual labor. Besides volunteers will take part in the ecological conference. ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: The volunteers will live in the dormitory of the Moscow State University. Bathroom and kitchen are available. The volunteers will cook breakfast and dinner by themselves, lunch will be provided in the canteen. LEISURE TIME: Volunteers will be able to make a tour of Moscow, to visit the Kremlin and the Red Square, to visit other Moscow botanic gardens and the protected natural territories of the Moscow city and also famous Moscow museums. REQUIREMENTS: Motivation letter is required.

◉ I COSTI A CARICO DEL VOLONTARIO I costi di partecipazione da considerare sono: quota associativa (30 Euro), quota d’iscrizione al progetto (70 Euro fino al 15/04/2013, 80 Euro dal 15/04/2013), le spese di viaggio e il visto. L’associazione di accoglienza russa invierà al partecipante la lettera d’invito per richiedere il visto per la Russia.

Alcuni progetti in Russia per l’estate 2013 Project code and name: RU-SOD 5.5 - WE ARE DIFFERENT, BUT WE ARE TOGETHER Dates: 29/06/13 - 14/07/13 Type of work: KIDS Number of vols: 8 Location: Cheboksary This camp for Russian kids takes place every year on the bank of river Volga. Foreign volunteers work together with Russian volunteers as counselors and organize cultural and educational activities for the participants (local school kids – aged 8-16). WORK: 1. Making intercultural and educational workshops (about the volunteers’ native countries, ecology, water resources, human rights, antiracism, etc); 2. Teaching foreign languages to the participants (in the form of playing games, singing songs or improve their language skills through discussions); 3. Organizing some sport activities, strategic games, shows and handycrafts. The work is done 8 hours a day, one day off per week, for the days off sightseeing excursions are planned. ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: (To be confirmed) In the camp for children “Kuvshinka”, in wooden houses; counselors live together in male, female, mixed rooms. Shower and Russian sauna are available all the time. No sleeping bags are needed, food is provided in the local camp cafeteria. LOCATION AND LEISURE TIME: The workcamp is situated in Russia, Cheboksary. The volunteers will need to fly (or arrive with any other transport: train, bus etc.) to Moscow and take a train from Moscow to Cheboksary. In Cheboksary the volunteers will be met by the Russian volunteers and move altogether to the workcamp. As the workcamp is located in Chuvashia – a small local ethnicity to the east from Moscow – the volunteers will get the chance to learn the culture of this local ethnicity, its’ history and difference from the Russian Culture. REQUIREMENTS: The volunteers are expected to have some experience of working with kids and organizing activities, intercultural experience is very welcome. We especially welcome those who can swim as this season is normally hot here and we swim a lot with the kids. Motivation letter is required. Certificate of no criminal record is required.
Project code and name: AYA 9.3 - FRIENDLY MOSCOW 2.0 Dates: 14/07/13 - 24/07/13 Type of work: CULT/ART Number of vols: 8 Location: Moscow AYA is organizing the international workcamp where a group of volunteers will participate in various activities with the main aim of promoting Moscow city green initiatives and ideas of international cooperation in the development of the city, free urban spaces for youth. www.friendlymsk.blogspot.com WORK: During the project volunteers will take part in various initiatives and activities or organize their own events or initiatives with the main aim of a sustainable development of a city life (bicycling, ecological waste management, vegetarianism, power consumption, volunteering and others). By the end of the workcamp there will be created a web map "Friendly Moscow 2.0" with the stories, pictures and videos from the events and activities. www.friendlymsk.blogspot.com ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: In a dorm room in Eco Backpacker hostel, food will be cooked by volunteers in the kitchen of the hostel. Project code and name: SFERA-07 - VOLUNTEERS SAVE THE RIVER Dates: 18/07/13 - 29/07/13 Type of work: CULT/ART Number of vols: 10 Location: Novosibirsk The camp is organized by the Inter-regional charitable public organization “Siberian Environmental Center”, which situated in Novosibirsk. Novosibirsk is the third most popular city in Russia after Moscow and St. Petersburg. About 1,5 million people live there. Novosibirsk - is a scientific, cultural, industrial, transport, trade and business center of Siberia. Scientific Center, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences are located in Novosibirsk. The biggest university is Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU), in which over 22 thousand students study. This city is called the center of science and students. WORK: Main objective of the camp - the ecological improvement of the Siberian river Izdrevaya and organizing events to save it. Volunteer tasks: - Cleaning the river banks of debris, - Rafting on the river and the installation of information boards about the importance of preserving the river, - Carrying out environmental actions, - The distribution of environmental newspaper for local residents, - The organization of ecological festivals for local children. ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: The volunteers will live in tents. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be cooked by cooks in the specially organized a field kitchen. The camp will be provided by toilets and showers. LOCATION: Novosibirsk region. REQUIREMENTS: Sleeping bags are necessary + medical insurance is necessary.
Project code and name: GDC8 - WILD ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP! Dates: 18/08/13 - 31/08/13 Type of work: WITH ANIMALS Number of vols: 4 Location: Rappolovo, 40 km from St. Petersburg The Russian wild animal quarantine center «VELES» — performs a full complex of works concerned with import of wild, ornamental, zoo animals to Russia and also their export abroad; their maintenance, treatment, quarantine, rehabilitation. Together with the Leningrad zoo The Quarantine Center «Veles» carries out programs on rescue of wild animals in St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region. The experience of employees of the Zoo and the serious base of the Center make it possible to rescue a lot of wild animals who come to grief. «Veles» is the only one such organization in Russia. More information in English can be found here: http://www.rqc-veles.com/?/English/Main.html WORK: Volunteers will prepare food for animals, clean cages, feed some animals (not dangerous), help workers is some manual work in the center, such as gardering, painting, etc. Work starts at 9 am and finishes at 4 pm with 1 hour break for lunch and short breaks for tea/coffee. Among the most interesting animals in the Center live bear, bobcats, seals, alpacas (kind of Lamas), small horses and many others. Please, pay attention that all volunteers are to show their insurance on arrival and sing up the safety rules of the Center! Nor we, nor the Center are responsible for any damage made to volunteers on their own fault. Motivation letter is compulsory. Knowing some Russian will be nice, but not obligatory. ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will live on the second floor of center’s building in double rooms. No need to bring a sleeping bag! There are 2 showers, sauna/Russian banya, small gym, TVs, kitchen, washing machine. Meals will be prepared by volunteers, products are provided. Fresh eggs are available every morning. Please, notice, that due to keeping some animals on the 1st floor of the center, there might
be unpleasant smell upstairs as well, so be ready for this. Don’t forget to bring working clothes and swimming-suit! Visa-support is provided. LOCATION AND LEISURE TIME: The «VELES» is located in village Rappolovo, Vsevolozhsk district, Leningrad region. It is easy to reach it, but, at the same time, it is distant enough from a city – 20 km. The «Veles» is situated in an environmentally appropriate zone, among the nature. It essentially heightens an effect when treating animals, makes their maintenance in the Center comfortable and favorably influences on their psyche. On the territory of the Center there is a possibility to make fire and barbeque, enjoy Russian banya. In 10 minutes walk there is a lake suitable for swimming and the farm for bisons, where it is possible to rent a horse and spend good time. Also volunteers will have a possibility to know one of the most beautiful cities of the world - Saint Petersburg. There are a lot of wonderful places, such as: the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, Petergof, Pushkin and some others. For weekends volunteers can stay in the city, if they wish (for extra fee of 25 euro). Excursion to St.Petersburg Zoo will be organized. Project code and name: W4U-12 - SACRED ISLAND Dates: 01/09/13 - 22/09/13 Type of work: AGRI Number of vols: 10 Project takes place on the fantastic island of Valaam - one of the most picturesque places and beautiful monasteries in the Northwest of Russia. It is sometimes called "Mount Athos of the North". Valaam, surrounded by the archipelago of more than 50 beautiful small islands, is situated in Lake Ladoga. During its centuries-old history, the Monastery has suffered from devastation and desolation several times. But, by God’s mercy, every time it revived. Last time it recovered in atheistic Soviet Union on December 14, 1989, when a ship with six monks moored in the harbor. Since that day, the new history of Valaam began. A lot of monks live here today; some of them renovate old churches, other work in the fields. People come to help them to save cultural heritage, and due to them a lot of churches of Valaam are already renovated. A lot of pilgrims come every summer to visit Holy Earth and to help in renovation works. WORK: International volunteers will be integrated into a group of 20-30 Russian volunteers and will work, eat and live all together. We will help monks in harvesting and cleaning the fields, grass cutting, preparing firewood and working in the garden. Volunteer should be ready to work hard. The work usually takes 6-7 hours a day. ACCOMODATION AND FOOD: Volunteers will live in the dormitory (4-20 persons per room). Monastery provides beds with blankets, pillows etc. You should take working boots, gloves and clothes with you, raincoat and long skirts & kerchief for girls. The monastery provides ordinary (with meat) or vegetarian food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in a monastery canteen. There is one shop on the island, so you can do shopping. There is only cold water in the dormitory; shower is available 3 times per week. LOCATION AND LEISURE TIME: During the free time you will have a chance to enjoy walking, swimming in the lake, visiting churches and temples situated in Valaam and learning about Russian orthodox culture. You can see photos of Valaam at www.valaam.ru REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers should be patient to orthodox religion, follow dress code – for girls it is long skits, which should cover their knee, their heads should be covered by kerchief or something like this. Boys shouldn’t wear T-shirts and shorts in the monastery – more details about dress code you will find in the infosheet. We can invite only volunteers with the good health conditions, because monastery is quite isolated and it is hard to get to a hospital in case of emergency.

Si tratta di un vero e proprio monumento naturale denominato “I Piloni dell’erosione eolica” (Stolby vyvetrivania), situato sul territorio di Troitsko-Pechora, regione di Komi, tra i fiumi Ichotlyagi e Pechora. L’altezza dei piloni raggiunge i 42 metri.

DOCUMENTAZIONE NECESSARIA PER L’INGRESSO IN RUSSIA: ‣ Passaporto: necessario, con validità residua di almeno 6 mesi al momento dell’arrivo nel Paese. ‣ Visto di ingresso: obbligatorio (si raccomanda vivamente di non arrivare in Russia sprovvisti di visto poiché "in loco" è impossibile regolarizzare la propria posizione nei confronti delle Autorità locali, con conseguente respingimento alla frontiera e ritorno in Italia a proprie spese e previo pagamento di una forte multa). ‣ E’ possibile richiedere il visto presso i Centri Visto a Milano, Roma, Genova e Palermo: http://www.vhs-italy.com/contacts/?lang=it oppure rivolgersi alle agenzie specializzate. ‣ Lista di documenti per ottenere il visto: un passaporto estero valido, modulo di richiesta del visto (Form), la fotografia formato tessera 3,5х4,5 (a colori), assicurazione medica, invito per entrare nella Federazione russa. ‣ La lettera d’invito viene fornita dall’associazione di accoglienza mentre l’assicurazione è a carico del volontario.
