A WOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE (12A) (DELAYED LIVE)

THURSDAY 18TH JANUARY, 7.15PM ADULTS £15, CHILDREN £10 THE FRIARAGE THEATRE

Olivier award-winner Eve Best (A Moon for the Misbegotten and Hedda Gabler) and BAFTA-nominated actress Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax) star in this new classically staged production of Oscar Wilde’s comedy directed by Dominic Dromgoole, former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe. The first play from the Oscar Wilde Season, A Woman of No Importance will be broadcast to cinemas from the Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End. An earnest young American woman, a louche English lord, and an innocent young chap join a house party of fools and grotesques. Nearby a woman lives, cradling a long-buried secret. First performed in 1893, Oscar Wilde’s marriage of glittering wit and Ibsenite drama satirised the socially conservative world of the Victorian upper-class, creating a vivid new theatrical voice which still resonates today.

THE FRIARAGE THEATRE Matthew Bourne’s smash-hit production, Sleeping Beauty, was filmed at the Bristol Hippodrome in 2013 following a sell-out UK tour. The story begins in 1890, the year of the ballet’s first performance, at the christening of the heroine Princess Aurora. It was the Fin-de-Siecle period when fairies, vampires and decadent opulence fed the gothic imagination. As Aurora grows into a young woman, we move forward in time to the more rigid, uptight Edwardian era; a mythical golden age of long summer afternoons, croquet on the lawn and new dance crazes. Years later, awakening from her century long slumber, Aurora finds herself in the modern day, a world more mysterious and wonderful than any fairy story! Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty is a Gothic Romance that will delight dance fans of all ages.

EXHIBITION ON SCREEN is thrilled to present one of the most talked about exhibitions of the year. Dedicated to the portrait work of Paul Cézanne, the exhibition opens in Paris before traveling to London and Washington. One can’t appreciate 20th century art without understanding the significance and genius of Paul Cézanne. Featuring interviews with curators and experts from the National Portrait Gallery London, MoMA New York, National Gallery of Art Washington, and Musée d’Orsay Paris, and correspondence from the artist himself, the film takes audiences beyond the exhibition to the places Cézanne lived and worked and sheds light on an artist who is perhaps the least known of all the impressionists – until now.

LES MISÉRABLES WEDNESDAY 31ST JANUARY - SATURDAY 3RD FEBRUARY, 7.30PM ADULTS £12, CHILDREN £8 THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA AUDITORIUM Seen by more than 70 million people in 44 countries and in 22 languages, it is still breaking box-office records everywhere; the original London production celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. This performance of the Les Misérables School Edition is kindly supported by Active Chartered Financial Planners.

With miniature sets he directs the lights, camera and action in front of your eyes to show the famous battles, floating islands, one-eyed giants and angry Gods that make up Ulysses’ 20 year struggle to get back home. The use of multiple cameras magnifies in wide screen our table-top puppetry down to the smallest detail, turning a storm-in-ateacup into an Aegean tempest, laying out the fundamental fable hidden in this classic of world-literature.

ROCK AND ROLL REVOLUTION - THE BLUEJAYS SUNDAY 11TH FEBRUARY, 7.30PM TICKETS £20 THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA AUDITORIUM The Bluejays (Winners of the National Vintage Award for ‘Best Band’) present an electrifying and authentic tribute to the era when music changed the world forever. Between 1955 and 1959, artists such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Eddie Cochran and Little Richard not only transformed the musical landscape but also the way we continue to look at the world today. Much more than just a concert show, The Bluejays take you on a historical journey via breath-taking renditions of the biggest hits of the era (Rock Around The Clock, That’s All Right, That’ll Be The Day, Tutti Frutti, Summertime Blues, Johnny B. Goode, Wake Up Little Susie, La Bamba, A Teenager In Love and many more) and reveal how the Rock ‘n’ Roll movement, rather than being “a communicable disease”, brought about a dream of equality and freedom that we still chase to this day. TWELFTH NIGHT (12A) WEDNESDAY 14TH FEBRUARY, 7PM ADULTS £15, CHILDREN £10 THE FRIARAGE THEATRE

Twelfth Night is a tale of unrequited love – hilarious and heartbreaking. Two twins are separated in a shipwreck, and forced to fend for themselves in a strange land. The first twin, Viola, falls in love with Orsino, who dotes on OIivia, who falls for Viola but is idolised by Malvolio. Enter Sebastian, who is the spitting image of his twin sister... Christopher Luscombe, Director of the ‘glorious’ (Daily Telegraph) Love’s Labour’s Lost and Much Ado About Nothing (2014 and 2016), returns to the Royal Shakespeare Company to tackle Shakespeare’s greatest comedy, a brilliantly bittersweet account of “the whirligig of time”.

TEN FEET TALL PRESENTS

SUGGS (18+) FRIDAY 16TH FEBRUARY, 8PM TICKETS £28.50 THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA AUDITORIUM Madness frontman Suggs not only sold out venues up and down the land with his one man show ‘My Life Story’, he also won rave reviews from the press and public. Now he’s back with a brand new show and performing at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium for the very first time. It’s been nearly 40 years since a teenage Suggs won the hearts of the nation, belting out the now classic ska hits One Step Beyond, My Girl, Our House and Baggy Trousers. With the songs sounding as fresh today as they did back in the 80s, Suggs has now turned his writing skills into capturing some of the many adventures he’s had in the course of his colourful career. Vertigo on the roof of Buckingham Palace while playing for the Queen’s Jubilee, nearly blowing the closing ceremony of the Olympics, watching his underpants fall to earth on Bowie’s driveway. Suggs has more stories to tell than the Brothers Grimm, and this show will see his effortlessly engaging skills as a raconteur combine with some of his best loved music.

Tennessee Williams’ twentieth century masterpiece Cat on a Hot Tin Roof played a strictly limited season in London’s West End in 2017. Following his smash hit production of A Streetcar Named Desire, Benedict Andrews’ ‘thrilling revival’ (New York Times) stars Sienna Miller alongside, Jack O’Connell and Colm Meaney. On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday. The scorching heat is almost as oppressive as the lies they tell. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out?

LLOYD COLE SATURDAY 24TH FEBRUARY, 8PM TICKETS £22.50 THE PRINCESS ALEXANDRA AUDITORIUM He wrote some of the classic hits of his generation, and we are thrilled to have Lloyd Cole playing here at Yarm’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium. Fans can expect to hear hits including Perfect Skin, Rattlesnakes, Forest Fire, Lost Weekend, Brand New Friend, Jennifer She Said, Are You Ready to be Heartbroken? and much more.
