Final Cut Express

How?

Successful or Unsuccessful?

To record what we did for each stage of production.

Blogger was successful because I could keep track of what things were missing, and see how our pre-production had evolved from the beginning. Using blogger also allowed us to embed things from other sites that made it more creative. Since we were already familiar to the website, it was easy to use at any time.

Upload feedback, presentations etc.

Successful; the only thing I used this for was to upload and embed our work onto blogger. Uploading and embedding was simple because I used this last year and the process is quite straight forward.

Uploading documents such as the shooting script and analysis of existing brands.

Successful because if me and my partner shared out work she’d be able to upload hers and I’d upload mine and we’d be able to access them easily by just visiting their “library”.

Audience research

Successful, the site was easy to use. Making the survey was easy, with drop down options to choose the type of question (open or close etc.) and the answers.

Visually show how we wanted our artist to be branded from images

I think this was successful because I find images easier to work with. So this website was definitely useful when we wanted to show what the artist might dress like or look like.

Keep work on a drive that I could access using my Google account.

Successful. Google drive also allowed me and my partner to share work, I’d give her my account details and she’d be able to download and upload hers. I found this useful because we used Macs in school and some of our work would stay there so I uploaded them onto my drive at the end of each lesson and I could continue them at home.

Editing the audience feedback video together.

Having used Final Cut last year, editing this video was simple.

Technologies

How?

Successful/Unsuccessful?

PCs/Macs (Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint)

Writing up analysis, shooting scripts and internet.

Successful, we use these more or less everyday so it was done with no trouble.

Flip Cams

Filming

It was easy to film on, and didn’t require a lot of settings. The audio however wasn’t that great and the audience couldn’t be heard very clearly.

Panasonic HDC HS300

Shooting our music video

Using the camera was easy, as we used last year. The equipment we used with it was new such as a dolly, and these paired together was less than successful (our footage was way too shaky). The other shots we used tripods and they were more successful.

Sony NEX 5B

Taking images for our ancillary products.

Using this camera was fine because I’ve used it before and was familiar with it. The photographs turned out fine, with a few out of focus, but our main image on the digipak of the artist walking across, was successful with the continuous shot mode on the camera.

Projector

Projecting footage.

The project we had a bit of technical difficulties with at the start, with plugging it into the mac and getting the video signal but it worked in the end. The footage quality when projected was slightly compromised, but aesthetically it looked like an old movie which played to our advantage.

PRODUCTION

Post production and evaluation Adobe Photoshop

Editing our ancillary products.

Being very familiar with the software, using it to make our products was successful from my point of view and our audiences point of view, some saying that it looked professional. The only problem I had was the dimensions of the actual digipak and the position. The templates for the digipak were quite confusing and so I had to measure out my own.

Editing together our music video

Editing wise proved to be a slight challenge because of the size of the project. There was a lot more cuts and we had to keep saving and checking them with the shooting script. We had to use more effects over for this project, such as making shots purple using the colour corrector, increasing the brightness of the shot to get a specific effect. Because some of our shots lacked movement, we used the motion tool to pan the footage of tilt them.

Artist and song title at the end.

This was a simple fade in texts that we needed to add in at the end and it didn’t take long. From the project last year this was smooth sailing.

Uploading to our channels.

This was the same as before, except we had slight trouble with the size and time of uploading the video.

Writing, posting, recording our evaluation.

Successful in the sense, this is was simple things that we needed to use. And all these programs are familiar.
