Prunus yedoensis Matsum.
is well known cherry tree species as the most spectacular flowering temperate trees in cultivation today. The lovely pale pink to white blossoms attracts people to enjoy their beauty during spring season. Even though, originated from Halla Mountain in Jeju island, King cherry trees widely spread around Seoul, including Seoul National University (SNU). This study aim to find out where, when and how all the Prunus yedoensis came to SNU.
Prunus yedoensis in the SNU campus was planted since 1975, when the mountains were still bald. King cherry has a life span around 40-50 years and some of King Cherry trees that planted in suitable soil and drainage condition still in the good shape.
